( WT All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated oyt( t Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted uniess an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to The Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But - the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. *„* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dnblin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, 4c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. % * DUBLIN, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1889. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY, Antrim, Description of JOHN M'SPARREN, native of Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 26tli December, 1888, at Armoy, in the barony of Carey, parish of Armoy, absconded with an English silver lever watch, which had been given him to repair by one James Stratton:— Gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round red face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 47 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore a hard hat, dark sack coat, gray tweed trowsers, dark vest, shaves his face and wears beard under chin, and round jaws, travels through the country cleaning watches and clocks, carries a small black bag, is a watch and clock cleaner. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 24th Januar>, 1889, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Ballymena, obtained money by false pttfeccs and forgery:— Full ( white yellowish) eyes, siH| ht nose, very swarthy complexion, full face, stout mko, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark uair, tinged with gray ; wore a round hard hat, gray tweed Norfolk jacket, trowsers and vest, to match ; has been in America; is a good talker; pretends he is a military man named Major Rhodes, and has served on the Staff in Egypt; is a swindler. A Warrant is in the hands of the District Inspector at Ballymuna for his arrest. Ballymena, 9th Feb., 1889. ( 94411 C.-- 61472.) Description of ROBERT SWIFT ( mother's surname Clarke native ot Ballycraigy, who stands charged with having, on the 4th December, 1888, in the barony of Upper Antrim, parish ol Antrim, stolen two coats, a waistcoat, a pair of boots, and a pair of woollen socks, the property of Alexander Davison, of Ballycraigy, and offered same in a pawn office in Belfast:— Good looking, front teeth prominent, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair; wore a low hard hat, dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Warrant in the hands of the District Inspector at Antrim. Antrim lJth December, 1888. ( 03317 c.- 59413.) Carlow. Description of JOHN BRENNAN ( supposed fictitious), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th December, 1888, in the barony of Rathvilly, parish of Rathmore, stolen from William Keppel, of Rathmore, two heifers and one bullock, which have been recovered;— Low thick- set man, with small side whiskers and a brown moustache clipped close, fresh complexion, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. This man sold the cattle at Newtownbarry, on 14th Decem- ber, 1888, when he gave the name of Brennan Sergeant M'Keon, of Rathvilly, holds a Warrant for Brennan's arrest. • Carlow 17th December, 1888. Description of FRANCIS QUINN, ( mother's surname, Doogan), native of Smear, county Longford, who stands charged with having, on the 25th January, 1889, in the barony of Tullyhunco, parish of Killa- shandra, dangerously assaulted Patrick Reilly, of Drumhaldry, county Longford, and who escaped from the Police Escort on the 5th February, 1889, at Cornea, county Cavan, while being conveyed to Petty Sessions:— Brown eyes, long nose, dark complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, dark hair; wore a round hat, check tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. THADY CLANCY, robbery, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th August, 1888. ( 90426 c.— 54946.) about 17 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farm labourer. A Warrant in hands of Constabulary at Cloyne for his arrest. Midleton, 30th January, 1889. ( 94265 c.— 70120.) Cork. Description of JAMES MEADE, native of Bally- longane, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd January, 1889, in the barony of Imokilly, parish of Cloyne, indecently assaulted a girl named Ellen Quirk, aged 10 years:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- p lexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high, Description of the undernamed young offender, who, , oa the' 2nd February, | P889, absconded from ° the St. Patrick's Reformatory School at Upton, county Cork:— JAMES SHERIDAN, No. 1254, 13 years of age, 4 feet 4 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, priggish nose, large mouth, round visage. Formerly belonged to Mallow. Parents have no fixed residence, itinerant tinkers. Absconded in company with Edward Baldwin, No. 1297. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 227 H. C.) Donegal. Description of ANTHONY M'CLAFFERTY ( mother's surname Coyle), native of Glenerragh, who stands charged with having, on the 14th January, 1889, at Glenerragh, in the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish* of Meevagh, forcibly rescued a prisoner from lawful custody who was arrested for being drunk and disorderly:— Upper front teeth prominent; no whiskers, beard, or moustache, dark eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed cap, tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers tweed vest; is a labourer. He was in America. Re- turned from Scotland on 1st December, 1888, it is likely that he has gone there. The Sergeant, R. I. C., at Glen, holds a Warrant for liis arrest Dunfanaghy, 29th Jan., 1889. Description of JOHN SLEVIN, native of Donegal Town, who stands charged with having, on the 9th December, 1888, in the barony of Tyrhugh, parish of Donegal, assaulted Constable William H. Carton, when in the execution of his duty, and escaped from custody:— Broad square shoulders, thick heavy black eyebrows, and moustache, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, black hair; wore a black cap, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a navvy, looks like a coal- porter. Description of BARTLY MILLANE ( mother's surname Mullin), JOHN MILLANE ( mother's surname Mullin), and BRYAN MULLIN, natives of Arran Island, who stand charged with having, on the 26th December, 1888, in the barony of Arran, parish of Inichmore, grievously assaulted one Bartly M'Donagh :— 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion ( freckled), regular faoa, medium make, 5 . feet 2, inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair, is a farmer. 2. Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 ye& rs of age, fair hair, and whiskers. 3. Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stuut make, 5 feet 6 inches high, abeut 30 years of age, brown hair, light brown beard and whiskers. Description of A MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd January, 1889, in the barony of Connell, parish of Old Connell, stolen a red bullock, lj years old, value for £ 8, the property of Mary Coffey, of Little Connell:— Sandy complexion, round face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, ab > ut 30 years, fair hair ; wore a round felt black hat, dark frock coat, dark trowsers and vest; looks like a horse dealer or trainer. Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 9th or morning of 10th January, 1889, in the barony of Kilcullen, parish ol Kilcullen, burglariously entered Maria L. Keogh's pawn office, at Kilcullen, and stolen therefrom a quantity of mens wearing apparel, value £ 4; supposed to be wearing stolen property, as they left their old clothes behind them :— 1. Dark complexion, sligbt make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a long drab coat, gray trowsers and cordur y vest, is a gambler. 2. Fresh complexion, 5 feet 5 inches high, sandy hair ; wore an old blue cloth coat, jacket make, barracan trowsers, is a gambler. Athy, Uth January, 1889. ( 93926 c.— 60473.) Kilkenny. Description of MATHEW CONNELL, native . place unknown, who otands charged with having, on the 30th January, 1889, in the barony of Galmoy, parish of Urlingford, absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him the following articles, the property of the Guardians of said Union, viz.:— 1 brown frieze coat, 1 ). rey vect, 1 pair of corduroy troWsers, 1 pair of boots, 1 calico shirt, and 1 pair of white cotton stockings; value for about 10,*.:— Walks erect, grey eyes, short nose, fair complexion, slightly freckled fare, stout make, 4 feet high, about 14 years of age but looks younger, brown hair ; wore a tweed cap, a brown frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, gray vest. DANIEL CONNOLLY, rape, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 14th August, 1888. ( 90586 o.— 55180.) Londonderry. Description of ALEXANDER M'GREGOR ( mother's surname, Marrs), native of Coleraine, who stands charged with having, on the 4th day of February, 1889, in the barony of Coleraine, parish of Coleraine, unlawfully and indecently assaulted one Rebecca M'Fadden:— Walks with a swaggering gait, deep wrinkles in forehead, dark eyes, cocked nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 19 or 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft felt hat, which he left behind him, old gray tw^ sed coat, dark tweed trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of TWO MEN, names and native daces unknown, who stand charged with having, on he 19th October, 1888, in the barony of Lower Deece, parish of Knockmark, obtained by false pretences, the sum of five shillings:— 1. Walked larfle, blind of one eye, and deeply pockpitted, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 60 years of age; wore a tall hat, frock coat. 2. Five feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 30 years of age, red moustache. Warrant has been issued, Dunshaughlin, 7th Nov.. 1888. ( 92571 c— 58128.) Monaghan. Description of JAMES MURPHY, native place unknown; who stands charged with having, on the night of 18th or morning ot 19th January, 1889, in DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, G Division. Particulars relative to convict JAMES BOURNE, A. 894, convicted at Galway Summer Assizes, on 30th July, 1884, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 50 years of age on conviction, Widower, is a shoemaker, born at Rathdrum, county Wicklow; resided before conviction at Ryder's- Row, Dublin, where his friends reside; brown hair turning gray, gray eyes, dark eyebrows, small and broken nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 5 feet 1 inch high; left thumb broken, cut over right eye, lost upper front teeth. This man was released from Downpatrick Prison, on Licence, 16th October, 1888, and went to reside in Dnblin, he recently notified to the Metropolitan Police his intention of going to Balbriggan, but he has not reported himself at tbe latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 225 H. C.) Particulars relative to English Convict PATRICK^ WARD, convicted at Liverpool Assizes, on 26th July, 1882, for wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude :— 54 years of age on conviction, married, is a labourer; born in county Kildare ; resided before conviction at Water- street, Widnes:— Gray hair ( bald), gray eyes, sallow complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 1J inches high; scar on forehead, cut on front of right wrist, pockpit above left elbow, small scar on outer side of left thigh and left side of belly, ruptured right side. ian was released on licence from Chatham. : 3rd December, 1877. He recently left the No^ V Dublin Union, his last place of residence, wit^ it notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 209 H. C.) ENGLISH POLIOE. Leeds. Wanted, for neglecting to notify leaving the district on or about the 1st instant, as required by the Preven- tion of Crimes Act, 1871 :— RICHARD DAVIES, a native of Hinstock, Shropshire, 51 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, gray eyes, fresh com- plexion, mole on left cheek, and scar on left temple. Convicted at Liverpool Assizes, Hh May, 1884, of perjury ( committed at the Liverpool County Court), and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, but released on licence, 12th May last. Since that time he has carried on business as a furniture dealer, Sec.., at 208, Walt n- road. in this city, and obtained quantities of goods from different firms in various parts of the country on credit, most of which were disposed of by auction soon after their receipt for what they would realize. He is likely to commence a similar business in some other town. Kindly cause careful inquiry to be made, and, if found, arrest and telegraph or com- municate any information you may be able to obtain as earlv as possible to the Chief Superintendent. Absconded from this city, on the 7th inst., and now charged by Warrant with stealing money belonging to to his employers:— HUNGERFORD LUTTON, a Tea Merchant's Traveller, well known to Grocers and Tea Merchants throughout Lancashire; he is a native of county Antrim Ireland; 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark I air, whiskers and moustache, dressed in dark tweed clothes, and hard black felt hat. Kindly cause every p ssible enquiry to be made for this man and if found, arrest, and wire, or send any information respecting him to GEO. WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. Id. :— FRANK DAVY, public- house manager, atant 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slim, fair complexion, and moustache, brown hair, parted in centre, consumptive- looking, small cut mark over left eye; dressed in brown check suit ( sacque jacket), hard black felt hat, brown cloth overcoat ( new), with velvet collar. He is a native of London, where he was formerly a cab driver, in the name of Frederick Davidson. Detective Department, Liverpool, November 2ftth, 1888. ( 210 H. C.) northumberland. Particulars of JAMES SWAN, who is in custody for false pretences and larceny as Bailee, committed in December, 1887, and committed for trial at Assizes Gives his native place as parish of Kitty Brewster, Aberdeenshire, 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, bro « n hair; switches mouth, slight scar near left eye, cut mark between thumb and fore- finger left hand, right shoulder higher than left one ; dark tweed suit, light cloth cap, long orange and black check topcoat with oape. ' Supposed previously con- victed and wanted for other offences. Visited Dublin prior to coming to Hexham in December, 1887. A photo of SWAN will be forwarded on application. Whereas, during the week ending 17th November, 1888, eight forged notes of the Bank of Scotland, for £ 1 sterling each, were passed in different places in this city, and afterwards paid into the principal office in Glasgow of said Bank. The forged notes already passed are all numbered « t 8,813," and dated " 9 March, 1887." The paper of tbe forged bank notes is different in colour and texture from that of the genuine notes. The attention of the police, and of lithographers, engravers, and the public generally is specially directed to this notice. The above Reward is hereby offered to anyone who will give such information, in regard to the forging and uttering ot such bank notes, as will secure the conviction of the offender or offenders.
