Of all questions, the most vital to every thoughful mind is the question, " Am I an object of Divine care 1 Is there truly behind all the changes and chances of this mortal life a Divine love that is watching over me 1" Let us look at one verse and find an answer. " The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying,' Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love ; therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.'" Divine Love, then, is a fact, The God of the Bible is a God of love. He cares for men, He watches over tbem, He guides and saves them. The old story repeats itself in many lines. We grow weary of the Father's House, we go away into a far country, we become more miserable than ever, a famine arises in the soul, we try to feed on some husks ; but, unless we utterly sink, we do arise, and we do go unto the Father. All the while the Father is waiting, and while we are yet a ? reat way off, He comes forth to meet us, This is the good news of Christ— the act of Divine Love is the very core of the Gospel. In some hearts a sense of sin arouses a spirit of fear, and they believe more readily that God is angry with them than that he really loves them. Others, again, think that God will overlook sin, they are not so sinful after all, and they trust to His goodness, as if it were good- nature. These are two obstacles to realising the Divine Love. But God not only loves us, He loves us everlastingly. God may seem far away, darkness surrounds us ; but the voice of God is not still because man does not hear it, and the love of God is not gone because man does not feel it. And again, the love of God is indi- vidual. " I have loved thee, with loving kindness have I drawn thee." It is per- sonal. God's love embraces all— yet it individualises all. It is to you and to me. " Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me 1" Think not of yourself, of what you are or may have been, but hear the voice, " yea, I have loved Thee." Shall any of us hear this voice pleading with us, and yet not heed it 1 Shall we not love Him, who hath first loved us 1 Shall we not say, in answer, " Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee."
