REGULA 11, AllannounceiKmts for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them, should is addressed to THE EDITOB OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, GBEAJ SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. , 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article m question to be thereby identified. ). In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 16s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. I. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. TIONS. 8. ' Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property beat a number, and <*•* alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted a* the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editat notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the text issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, trill b- wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so at to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by f covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. " For a long time the parents knew not what had become of him. At last they heard, and the father wrote a3 follows—" My dear Son— Come home at once ; we freely forgive all. I send out money to a friend at Calcutta to buy you out of the ranks, and to bring you home. Come at once. We will give you a hearty welcome home.— Your loving Father." This letter reached safely enough, but the young man never opened it. He knew his father's handwriting, his conscience told him what he deserved ; he would not look at it. Farther and farther into sin did he go- at last came the end of his tether. In hospital he asked for this letter, and opening it found all that had been so long waiting for his acceptance- for- giveness, liberty, restoration, provision, welcome, love. But alas! the time for laying hold of these blessings had passed- he was dying. You say, " the man must have been a fool. How did he know 1 He might have looked, at any rate. Now, God's letter to you is the Bible, and perhaps you- certainly a great many — are treating God's letter to them in just as foolish a way. Many will not look into their Bibles at all. They know well enough they ought to hud their con- demnation there— they think they will find some check on the way in which they want to go. They cannot imagine that The One they have offended should be The One to write kindly to them, to provide for them, to think out everything lovingly for them. You have a Bible- do not leave it unopened any longer.
