All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Ory are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to tho Inspectc - General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such sdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whoso apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the naino of tho person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offenoe of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. V Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Polieo Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fec., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Description of THREE MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 20th May, 1888, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Clonfert, assaulted and forcibly taken a six chamber revolver from John Quirke, caretaker to W. N. Leader, Esq., J. P.:— 1. Fresh complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, fair hair, no beard; wore a white tweed two- peaked cap, whitish gray tweed coat. 2. Long nose, dark complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 9J inches high, about 29 years of age, black hair, no whiskers or beard; wore a black soft hat, black pilot coat. 3. Long nose, fair complexion, very plump face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 34 or 35 years of age, black hair, black side whiskers ; wore a hard black hat, black frieze coat, black trowsers. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 26th May, 1888, absconded from the Rehoboth Reformatory School at Rehoboth place, Dublin:— CHARLES M'MILLEN, 17 years of age, 4 feet 6 inches high, stout make, dark brown hair, gray eyes, small nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, round visage; formerly belonged to Dundalk. Parents reside at Barrack- street, Dundalk. Small' mark of cut on centre of right cheek, mark of burn on left foot. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded:— Round cloth cap with peak and two brass buttons, tweed jacket, trowflci. 1, and vest, callcu oiw, Knpfclftd tuw- and cotton socks. This boy was reared in the Military Barracks, at Dundalk, will likely frequent the neighbourhood of the Dublin Military Barracks. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 18th May, 1888, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Kill, being suspected of entering the house of Mrs. Eisner, and stolen spoons, < fec., of the value of about £ 3 :— Round shoulders, large mouth, small thin moustache, large nose, coarse broad face, short set make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, about 40 years of age; wore an old gray coat, begging when observed. Stolen or strayed on the evening of the 8th instant, from the Royal Barracks, Dublin, FRANCIS CLARKE, aged 3 years and 4 months, dressed in a blue serge sailor suit, full face, blue eyes fair hair, has a small birth mark on back near shoulders. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the evening of the 2nd June, 1888, at 5 o'clock, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School at county Wicklow:— JOHN MURPHY, 1995, about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 5 feet 4 inches high, stout make, fair and freckled complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, ordinary nose,-- ordinary mouth, oval visage ; male near his right ear. Formerly belonged to Knockaneasy, Broadway, county Wexford. Parents reside at Bun- carrick, Broadway, county Wexford. The school dress, aH with Reformatory stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, cloth cap ( Scotch make), strong nailed boots. Particulars relative to Convict SAMUEL BLAIR, A 790, who has broken the conditions of his licence, convicted at Belfast, county Antrim, on 7th December, 1883, for burglary 3 count?, and larceny 1 count, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, in each case sentences concurrent:— 19 years of age on conviction, single, is a sailor, born in Londonderry, resided before conviction at Belfast, his friends reside at Londonderry; light brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, round visage^ stout make, 5 feet 2| inches high, bracelet, anchor, and shield on left forearm, square, compass, and dot back of loft hand, ring on left middle finger and little finger, square and compass and dot, on back of " l ight hand. • This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on Licence, the 16th February, 1888, and went to Belfast. . He engaged as a sailor in a ship bound for America, on 30th ult., got £ 1 from the Captain to buy clothes, but failed'to turnup on the 5th inst., when the ship sailed, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 160 H. c.) Description of WILLIAM POTTER, wanted here on Warrant for having stolen on the 11th instant, from the ship " Speedy Row," now lying in the Alexander Basin, one suit of clothes, one pair sea boots, two guns, one telescope, and the sum of 18sv property of the Master of said ship:— He is a sailor, a native of Dublin, and about 48 years old, 5 feet 3 inches high, slight make, stooped shoulders, wears all his beard, which is dark turning gray, and the middle finger of one of his hands wants a. joint; dressed when last seen in a short gray monkey jacket, dark trowsers, and Scotch cap. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OE HUE- AND- CRY, JUNE 8, 1888. - Description of HENRY MARTIN, wanted here * on Warrant, for having unlawfully received by false pretences the sum of £ 1 with intent to defraud:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, square shoulders, fair hair turning gray, no whiskers, slight moustache, fresh complexion, reddish face ; dressed in black jacket and tweed trowsors. He left Dublin about six weeks ago, and it appears went to Belfast of which town he is a native. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM JOHN M'CARTNEY, alias JOHN MURRAY, alias FITZGERALD, convicted at Belfast Quarter Sessions, on 30th October, 1883, I, larceny, II. larceny and confessed to a previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to ( I.) one weok's imprisonment, and at expiration ( II.) 5 years' penal servitude, and 3 years' Police supervision:— 18 years ol age on conviction, read and write, is an Episcopalian, single, is a labourer, prison trade labourer, born at Aunahilt, county Down, resided before conviction at Belfast, his friends reside at Anderstown, Belfast:— Brown hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, large mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high i large scar on ball of left thumb, scar on head, small cut on forehead, right arm has been broken at elbow. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, on 20th October, 1887. He recently left his residence in Belfast without notifying same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Wanted for the murder of Assistant Warder Webb, at Strange ways Prison, on Tuesday, the 22nd instant, CHARLES WOOD FIRTH, alias, CHARLES WILLIAMSON FIRTH, CHARLES WOOD, CHARLES WILLIAM FIRTH, CHARLES WILSON, CHARLES KITSON, JOHN JACKSON, EDWARD GRAHAM, FRED SMITH, & c., & c.:— Age 33 years, 5 feet 5£ inches high, round face, fresh complexion, hazel eyes very I> rominent, dark brown bair, cut mark on nose, scar eft side of neck, mole left side of back, abscess mark on right or left groin, proportionate build, a plumber by trade, and a native of Birstal, in Yorkshire. FIRTH has worked in a foundry, and been employed as a stoker on steam boats between Liverpool and New York. He has a small lump on the first finger of the left hand, which was caused by a cut from a knife, but which he can easily hide with his thumb. He has also a manner of not looking straight at the person with whom he is in conversation. FIRTH escaped from Wakefield Gaol on 9th August, 1888, where ho was undergoing a sentence of six months for horsestealing. When last seen he was dressed as follows:— Brown ribbed cloth jackct, brown cloth buttons, a white linen jacket with metal buttons, brown and red mixture tweed vest, and two- peaked cap, but there is no doubt he will have since changed his clothing. For several months previous to his arrest FIRTH was in tho habit of travelling from town to town, and making friends with Captains of the Salvation Army, whose houses he afterwards plundered. Ho generally took lodgings with quiet respectable families. • All Police Forces are earnestly requested to cause diligent search to be made for the above- named man, and should any information be obtained regarding him, to communicate without delay to C.
