THE Police Gazette, OR BUE- AND- CB7. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. REGULATIONS. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Gry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not hecessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General, Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a " Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Wan- ant in their possession when making the arrest. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it ^ ill be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, ( fee., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Gray eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, t! in face, medium make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 35 years of age; wore a soft hat, gray coat, tweed trowsers and vest, is a car- driver. 2. Slightly lame, rowdy looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age; wore a hard hat, black coat, brown trowsers and vest, is a carpenter. Gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long face, active make, 5 feet 8 inches high about, 45 years of age ; wore a black hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest; is a " gambler." 2. Brown eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 45 years of age ; wore a brown shawl over her head; is a " gambler." 3. Pearl on left eye; blue eyes, broad nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 20 years of age ; wore a brown shawl over her head ; is a " gambler." Description of THREE MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 20th May, 1888, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Clonfert, assaulted and forcibly taken a six chamber revolver from John Quirke, caretaker to W. N. Leader, Esq., J. P.:— 1. Fresh complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, fair hair, no beard; wore a white tweed two- peaked cap, whitish gray tweed coat. 2. Long nose, dark complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 9J inches high, about 29 years of age, black hair, no whiskers or beard ; wore a black soft bat, black pilot coat. 3. Long nose, fair complexion, very plump face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 34 or 35 years of age, black hair, black side whiskers ; wore a hard black hat, black frieze coat, black trowsers. JOHN VERNON, alias JOHN M'ILVERNON, robbery from a dwelling house, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 16th December 1887. ( 85586 46598.) Dnblin. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 26th May, 1888, absconded from the Rehoboth Reformatory School at Rehoboth- place, Dublin:— CHARLES M'MILLEN, 17 years of age, 4 feet 6 inches high, stout make, dark brown hair, gray'eyes, small nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, round visage ; formerly belonged to Dundalk. Parents reside at Barrack- street, Dundalk. Small mark of cut on centre of right cheek, mark of burn on left foot. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded;— Round cloth cap with peak and two brass buttons, tweed jacket, trowsers, and vest, calico shirt, buckled boots and cotton socks. This boy was reared in the Military Barracks, at Dundalk, will likely frequent the neighbourhood of the Dublin Military Barracks. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 157 h. c.) Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 18th May, 1888, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Kill, being suspected of entering the house of Mr'. Eisner, and stolen epoons, < fcc., of the value of about £ 3 :— Round shoulders, large mouth, small thin moustache, large nose, coarse broad face, short set make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, about 40 years of age; wore an old gray coat, begging when observed. Description of MARYANNE, alias BRIDGET KELLY ( mother's name, Brennan, residing at 51, Lower Mecklenburgh- street, Dublin ; she also has an aunt residing at Conolly- court, off Purdon- street), native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 24th day of April, 1888, in the barony of Coolock, parish of Clonturk, stolen from her employer, Winifred Quinn, the sum of ten pounds ten shillings:— Round shoulders, awkward gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 4 feet lOincheshigh, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore ablackstraw hat, brown dress, short black jacket; is a general servant. Description of a WOMAN, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 11th May, 1888, in the barony of Kilcoursey, parish of Kilbride, abandoned a child about a month old, thereby endangering its life :— Brown eyes, aquiline nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 or 22 years of age, black hair; wore a green linsey dress, and dark gray shawl, with white spots or stripes, no boots. ( 88066 c.— 51080. JOHN REILLY, serious assault, not arrested; Hue- and- cry, 2nd March, 1888. ( 86655 48642.) Kildare. Description of PETER FARRELL and CHRIS- TOPHER CONNOLLY, natives of Cloncumber, who stand charged with having, on the 10th day of May, 1888, in the barony of Connell, parish of Kilmeague, seriously assaulted Robert Nevins:— 1. Narrow shoulders and awkward gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a solt hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. 2. Fresh coirplexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age; wore a dark coat, moleskin trowsers, and dark vest; is a boatman on Grand canal. Was convicted in Dublin about 9 months since, of stabbing, and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment, Hai a brother residing in James's- street, Dublin. Warrants in hands of Police. Description of WILLIAM KENNEDY ( mother's surname Bridget Keane), native of Doon, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of May, 1888, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, serionsly assaulted William Leahy, by striking him on the head with a stone, and fracturing his skull, and who has since died from the effects of the injuries received:— Black eyes, hooked nos<>, sallow^ complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, black hair; wore a two- peaked tweed cap, black serge sack coat, gray tweed trowsers ( broken about the knees), gray tweed vest; is a carpenter. Courtney, ( mother's surname Berrill), native of Drogheda, who stands charged with havi g, on the 14th day of May, 1888, in the barony of Ferrard, parish of St. Peter's, absconded from his employment taking with him the sum of £ 8, the property of his master Mr. Thomas Jordan, of Drogheda:— Bo v legs, dark eyes, long nose, dark complexion, long lace, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years > f age, da k hair ; wore a round jerry hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a pawnbroker's assistant. Mayo, THOMAS GRIFFIN, robbery, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd- March, 1888. ( 87399 c.— 49977.) Meath. Description of CHRISTOPHER BOYLE, native of Dunboyne, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd of May, 1888, in the barjny of Dunboyne, parish of Dunboyne, unlawfully and cam illy known a girl between 13 and 16 years of age :— Slovenly gait, hooked nose, full face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair, no hair on face; wore a tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Warrant in hands of Police at Clonee. Dunshaughlin, May 26, 1888. ( 88762 52197.) Description of PATRICK DARCY, native of Ratoath, who stands charged with having, on the 30th April, 1888, in the barony of Ratoath, parhh of Dunshaughlin, stolen a suit of Workhouse clothes, the property of Dunshaughlin Board of Guardians :— Is of weak intellect and is continually talking about farming and ploughing, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 50 years of age, hair turning gray, wears all his beard, wore the Workhouse coat, trowsers and vest; was an inmate of Workhouse. Warrant in hands of the Police. Dunshaughlin, 7th May, 1888. ( 88345 51563.) Monaghan. Description of ROSE DUFF ( maiden name FINEGAN), mother's surname Marron, native of Mullanary, who, on the 28th day of April, 1888, in the barany of Farney, parish of Killanny, left the house of her master, Thomas Marron, in the townland of Drumgeeny, where she was employed as a servant, and has not sinca been heard of, and it is feared that she has met with foul play :— Blue eyes, short nose, red complexion, round face, stout make, about 4 feet 10 inches high, about 22 years of age, sandy hair; wore a dark shawl and a brown dress, a pair of elastic side boots, no hat or bonnet. She is a married woman, her husband is in America for the past three years ; is a servant. She got 5s. from her master when leaving, and stated that she was going to Carrickma- cross to see her father, but she did not go there. Carrickmacross, 15th May, 1888. ( 88528 c 51841.) Description of HENRY MARTIN, wanted here on Warrant, for having unlawfully received by false pretences the sum of £ 1 with intent to defraud:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, square shoulders, fair hair turning gray, no whiskers, slight moustache, fresh complexion, reddish face ; dressed in black jacket and tweed trowsers. He left Dublin about six weeks ago, and it appears went to Belfast of which town he is a native. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM JOHN M'CARTNEY, alias JOHN MURRAY, alias FITZGERALD, convicted at Belfast, Quarter Sessions, on 30th October, 1883, I. larceny, II. larceny and confessed to a previous conviction f'Jf- felony, and sentenced to ( I.) one week's impiflsonment, and at expiration ( II.) 6 years' penal servitude, and 3 years' Police supervision :— 18 years of age. on conviction, read and write, is an Episcopalian, single, is a labourer, prison trade labourer, born at Aunahilt, county Down, resided before conviction at Belfast, his friends reside at Anderstown, Belfast:— Brown hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, large mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 4 inchest MARY EGAN, robbery, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th April, 1888. Description of THOMAS GORMAN, native of Cahir, who stands charged with having, on the 10th day of May, 1888, in the barony of Iffa and Offa West, parish of Cahir, assaulted the police:— May have scratches or marks on face and head, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 yijars of age, fair hair, wears all bis beard whi.; h is lair and short; wore a dark tweed coat, dark brown trowsers, dark vest; is a soldier. Description of JOSEPH JORDAN, native of Culnafey ( county Antrim), who stands chrrged with having, on tho 19th day of May, 1888, in the barony of Lougliinshallen, parish of Bailyscullion, attempted to commit a rape on one Nancy Lynn:— Brown eyes, sharp nose, rod thin face, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 19 years of age; wore a single- peaked tweed cap, brown coat, dark corduroy trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of ROBERT M'ATEER, native of Ballynease, who stands charged with bavins;, on the 12th day of May, 1888, in tho barony of Loughins- hollen, parish of Bailyscullion, committed a rape on one Jane Surgenor:— Very square shoulders, and keeps the right eye half closed, fair momtache, gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, broad face, very stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a double peaked tweed cap, grny tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, shabby appearance; is a horse trainer. Description of JOHN HAMILTON ( mother's name M'Loughlin), native of Tullyhugh; —.. DAVY, supposed native of Greyfort, and a MAN, name unknown, supposed native of Greyfort, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 23rd April, 1888, in the barony of Leyny, parish of Achonry, broken into the house of Owen Lavin, of Carrowrielly, and intimidated him by threats and violence :— 1. Hazel eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 or 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a hard black felt hat, and dark tweed clothes, is a farmer's son. 2. Small fair side whiskers and moustache, shaves upper part of chin, long nose, fair complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft black hat, and knitted cuffs, dark tweed sack coat, dark trowsers and vest. 3. High cheek bones, black moustache, no beard or whiskers, swarthy complexion, broad face, very stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. O'BRIEN, native of Knockaginny, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd May, 1888, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Carnteel, set fire to a dwelling- house the property of Thomas Callaghan, at Aughnacloy, county Tyrone:— Leans forward when walking, delicate appearance, dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, black hair; wore a black Overcoat, black cloth trowsers, and vest; is of weak intellect, and addicted to drink; is a suspended R. C. Clergf man. Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of R. I. Con- stabulary, Aughnacloy. Aughnacloy, May 20, 1888. ( 88630 c.— 51998.) ROBERT BLACK ( Junior), intent to procure abortion, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th January, 1888. ( 86369 c.— 48131) Waterford. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown ( refused to give name), who has been sentenced to a month's imprisonment under the Vagrancy Act, and is now in Waterford gaol, he fails to give any address or account of himself. Tbere are strong grounds for believing that he has been moving about from place to place in the garb of a R. C. Clergy- man, collecting monies for schools and religious purposes:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, rather long face, medium make, about 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, fair hair; dressed as a R. C. Clergyman; he has prominent front teeth, common expression, walks with a slight stoop. If required, please communicate with the District Inspector, R. I. C., Portlaw. Portlaw, April 25th, 1888. Description of WILLIAM POTTER, wanted here on Warrant for having stolen on the 11th instant, from the ship Speedy Row," now lying in the Alexander Basin, one suit of clothes, one pair sea boots, two guns, one telescope, and the sum of 18s., property of the Master of said ship:— He is a sailor, a native of Dublin, and about 48 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight make, stooped shoulders, wears all his beard, which is dark turning gray, and the middle finger of one of his hands wants a joint; dressed when last seen in a short gray monkey jacket, dark trowsers, and Scotch cap. Stolen or strayed on the evening of the 8th instant, from the Royal Barracks, Dublin, FRANCIS CLARKE, aged 3 years and 4 months, dressed in a blue serge sailor suit, full face, blue eyes, fair hair, has a small birth mark on back near shoulders. The above reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the child, and the prosecution of the person who has it unlawfully in his possession, on application to its father, Band Sergeant Francis Clarke, Royal Lancaster Regiment, Royal Barracks, Dublin. Wanted on Warrant, charged with embezzling money, the property of his employers, Messrs. Brad- bury and Company, sewing machine manufacturers, with whom he was agent. EDWARD HARKINS, 32 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, born at Bothergate, near Carlisle, face clean shaven exoept moustache:— Dressed when last seen in gray mixture tweed jacket and vest, brown check tweed trowsers, hard felt hat, and collar and tie.
