Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated b^ a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary . to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies anil such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has beou. issued, ind by the name of the person in whoxe hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an off'- 1 » of thu nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without thij Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, <. f the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c.,. and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. MATHEWS ( mother's surname Henry), native of Ballymena, who stands charged with having, on the 15th March, 1888, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Kirkinriola, fraud- ulently produced to Colonel Richard M. Studdert, Auditor for the Local Government Board, a bank pass- book, purporting to be the pass- book between the Guardians of Ballymena Union, and the Belfast Bank, to which book the name of William A. Young, Esq., Chairman of said Guardians, was forged, whereby a fraud of about £ 700 has been committed on the Guardians:— Smart active appearance, slight dark moustache, no beard or whiskers, brown eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of uge, dark hair ; wore a brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, and gray dust » coat; is a Clerk to Poor Law Guardians. The District Inspector at Ballymena holds a Warrant for his arrest. Ballymena, March 16, 1888. ( 87372 0— 49929). Description of JAMES ROBINSON, native of High Town, near Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 26th February last, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, feloniously broken into the Wolfhill Mill, at Wolfhill, in the county of Antrim, and stolen therefrom a number of knives, and one sovereign, the property of the workers in said Mill:— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 17 years of age, fair hair; wore a tweed cap with tw o peaks, dark tweed coat, trowsers, " tod vest; is a millworker. Lisburu, March 16, 1888. ( 87371 c.— 49928). the barony of Upper Toome, parish of Ballyscullion Grange, embe2zled certain monies, received from Sergeant Michael Barron, and others; also with having obtained goods under false pretences:— Slovenly in appewance, and hair thin on top of head from effects bf a burn, gray eyes, regular nose, dirty swarthy complexion, thin face, stout make, 4 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 50 years of age, brown tinged with gray hair; wore a black striped shawl, buff coloured dress, stiung boots, much worn, black bonnet. "( las friends in Ballymena, and Cloughmills, and a sister named Sarah Irwin, in Dumbarton shire, Scotland; is a barrack servant. Warrant in hands of the Police. Antrim, February 13, 1888. Description of PETER BARKER ( Junior), ( mother's surname Conlan), native of Newlands, who stands charged with having, on the 4th and 5th of January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Glynn, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 13 and 16 years. For said offence he was bailed to appear at Larne Petty Sessions, on 24th January, 1888, but failed to do so. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Larne :— Slightly freckled face, walks with a swagger, blue eyes, regular nose, fiesh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, light brown hair, no beard, whiskers or moustache; wore a Glergarry cap, blue coat, tweed trowserB, and vest; is a gardener's assistant. Description of BRYAN CAFFREY, native of Mount Pallae, who stands charged with having, during the months of November and December, 1887, in the barony of Clonmahon, parish of Kilbride, had unlawful carnai knowledge of a girl between the age of 13 and 16 years:— Wears all his beard, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair ; wore a two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a carpenter. Description of JAMES LYNCH, native of Drom- colloher, cou^ ly Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 15th January, 1888, in the barony of Orrery and Kilmore, parish of Kilbolane, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl, between the age of 13 and 16 years:— Shaves all his face except moustache, which is black and bristly, dark eyes, short nose, red complexion, full face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a low hard hat, very long skirt coat, moleskin trowsers and vest ; is a mason. Description of MAURICE CONNORS, native of Coolykerane, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in th « barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, stabbed Timothy Shine, of Churchill, in the left side with a penknife, thereby placing his life in danger :— Drooped shoulders, long neck, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, small thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9£ inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache; wore a brown soft hat, dark frock coat, dark corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer's son. JAMES BARRY and DAVID CRONIN, ( indecent assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st November, 1887. Down. Description of JOHN VERNON, alias JOHN M'ILVERNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of December, 1887, at Ballylenaghan, in the barony of Upper Castlereagh, parish of Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing therefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, toe- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and .£ 13, made up as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four half sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Banking Company, Limited " stamped on back :— Has an impediment in his speech, and twists his mouth when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer. Description of JOHN REILLY ( mother's surname Slivin), native of Annaghoney, who stands charged with having, on tho 28th day of J ternary, 1888, in the barony of Mohill, parish of Cloone, seriously assaulted Owan Calreavy, of Annaghmore, by striking him on the head with a stone:— Blue eyes, regular nose, pale swarthy oomploxion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a aoft black hat or tweed cap, bright tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's Son. Description of MICHAEL RODDEN, native of Derrinvona, county Leitrim, who stands charged with having, on the 6th day of January, 1883, in the barony of Drumahaire, parish of Cloonclare, knowingly uttered a forged receipt for rent for £ 3 15s.:— Shaves all his face except small side whiskers, gray eyes, long thin nose, pale sallow complexion, long thin face, medium make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 50 yean of age, brown hair; wore a soft round hat, brown top- coat, reaching to tho knee, corduroy trowsers, generally keeps his hands in his tro / rsers pockets when walking, and leans forward; is a small farmer. Description of JOHN KENNEDY, native of Limerick city, who stands charged with having, during present month, in the borough of Limerick, parish of St. Mary's, stolen a number of plain gold rings ( old), having two ( 2) file marks inside each, value for about £ 15, tho property of John P. Kearney, Pawnbroker:— Red tender eyes, long nose, red complexion, long face, modium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 32 years of age, light brown hair; wore a dark tweed sack coat, moleskin trowsers and dark vest, is a mason. Description of WILLIAM MONTGOMERY, native of Brigh, county Tyrone, who staids charged with having, on the 10th d ty of February, 1838, in the barony of Loughinshollen, parish of Desertlynn, embezzled the sum of £ 40, the money of the Belfast and Northern Counties Railway Company:— Square shoulders, good looking, smart appearance, light fair moustache, no whiskers, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round red face, very st > ut make, 5 / eet 8 inches hiafh, about 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a brown hard hat, gray coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a stationmaster. Description of THOMAS GRIFFIN, ( mothers surname, Anne Corcoran), native of Bolton, England, who stands charged with having, on the 16th day of March, 1888, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Killedan, stolen £ 3 7s., the property of Thomas Roach, of Comderra, in the said parish and county, viz., Three one pouid notes and seven shill ngs in silver :— Speaks with an English accent; tender eye's, regular nose, fresh coinplcxion, round face, slender make, 4 feet 3 inches high, about 15 years of aje, d « r< hair; wore a light tweod straight peaked cap, light tweed c > at, trowsers, and vest. Description of THOMAS WALSH, ( mother's surname Kate Mullen), native of Ahena, parish of Togheon, barony of Claremorris, who stands charged with having, on tho 5th March, 1838, in the barony of kilmnin, parish of Ballinrobe, seriously assaulted Martin Flynn, of Ahena, fracturing his skull and en- dangering his life:— Walks wido and slovenly, blue eyes, largo nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, ( gmut 40 years of age, fair hair turning jjray ; wore an old dark frieze coat, dark corduroy trowsers, dark frieze vest; is a small farmer. Tipperary. • AMENDED DESCRIPTION. Description of A YOUNG MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, at or about 8 p. m., 16th January, 1888, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Lower, parish of Donohill, fired three shots from a revolver at Valentine Ryan, Esq., j. p., in his house at Chadville, near Cappawhite:— Full largo round bullet shaped eyes, blue or gray in colour, straight nose, fair complexion, oval face, medium make, youthful, soft athletic looking, with rather square shoulders, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 18 or 20 years of age, fair or light brown hair, highly arched eyebrows, fair or light brown in colour, and evenly marked from end to end ; regular teeth in upper jaw ; wore a double peaked light gray cap and dark clothes. Description of ROBERT BLACK ( Junior), native of Montober, who stands charged with having, on the 7th January, 1888, in the barony of Upper Dungannon, parish of Derryloran, administered drugs to one Martha Bayne, with intent to procure abortion:— Walks erect, square shoulders, broad fore- head, very fair eyebrows, gray eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 23 or 30 years of age, fair hair ; wore a light brown hard hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Description of JOHN DRUM, native of Delvin, who stands charged with having, on t . e I 4th Janu try, 1888, in the barony of Delvin. parish of Delvin, endeavoured to obtain goods by false pretenc^, and with having failed to appear at Delvin Petty Sessions, on 30th January, 1838. on Summons:— Brown eyes', regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 20 years ofage; wore a brown overcoat, gray tweed trowsers, and vest. Warrant issued for his arrest and is in the hands of R. I. C. Delvin. Delvin, February 2, 1888. ( 86538 48431.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, G Division, Description of Quarter- Master Sergeant GEORGE CRAWFORD, Army Service Corps, Portobello Barracks, Dublin, wanted here on Warrant, for stealing a cheque for £ 25:— He i< 27^ ears old, 5 leet 7| inches high, sallow completion, olack h lir, d irk moustache, rest of face shaved, brown eyes, with slight cast in right, scar on left shiu. He was born at Shankhill, Belfast. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G. Division, 15th February, 1838. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM WILSON, A 818, convicted at Dublin at the Commission, on 8th February, 1884, for larceny fiom person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude 48 years of age on conviction, married, is a poulterer; born at Plymouth; resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends reside at Gallogate, Glasgow :— Sandy hair, blue eyes, sandy eyebrows, large nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval- worn visage, medium make. 5 feet 4 inches high ; lost a number of teeth. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on licence} 13th January, 1888, and stated he was goinj to reside at NaaS. ( Ie has not reported himself, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of bis arrest he should be dealt Wit inder 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., ca 112. ( 132 II. c.) Description of JOSEPH BERGIN, of No. ' it, Blackhall- street, Dublin, wanted here on Warrant tor embezzlement:— He is 30 years old, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow c omplexion, long thin ( ace, black hair, small side whis ers and mo istache, smart active appearance, and dress- d when last se^ in d irk clothes. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, wno holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superint indent's Office, G. Division 31 st January, 1838. Description of JOHN D. ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey, large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk haj^& nd laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gold ring on little finger. Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, not arrested]; Hue- and- Cry, 8th November, 1887. ( 109 H. c.) ' ENGLISH POLICE. Blackburn. Wanted in this borough, under a warrant for embezzling a largo sum of money, the property of his employers, WILLIAM RAWLINSON, a corn miller's traveller. 37 ) ears of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stoutish build, fresh complexion, round full face, brown hair, and lig it brown moustache, no whiskers. He absconded on the 27th ult., and was then dressed in a short black Melton cloth overcoat, with black velvet collar, brown check tweed suit, black billycock hat, and boots. Supposed to have a large sum of money in his possession. Please cause all possible enquiries to be made at hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if arrested, or any information respecting him be obtained, communicate with GEORGE LEWIS, Chief Constable. Borough Police Office, Blackburn, 10th March, 18&. ( 140 II. C.) Glossop. Description of THOMAS MICHAEL ELLISON, Junr., Solicitor's Clerk, who absconded on the morning of the 4th inst., and whose apprehension is sought undrr Warrant, for forgery :— Age 26 years, height, 5 feet 6 inches, build proportionate, square shoulders, omplexion fresh, eyes gray, hair dark brown ( cut short), short side whiskers and moustache ( which he may ha\ e shaved off), features rather long, cheek bones and ears prominent, and largish head, walks hurriedly, with short quick steps, antF leans forward from hips. Is fond of horse- racing, and probably may be found in the company of betting men, or he may endeavour to emigrate. He now holds a Lieutenant's Commissi > n in the Glossop Detachmcnt of the 4th Cheshire R. V. Supposed to be dressed in dark cloth overcoat and trowsers, high silk hat, and boots, and had in his possession a black portmanteau. It is earnestly requested that Chief Officers of Police will cause immediate inquiry to be made in their respective districts for the above- named, and. if met with, apprehend, and wire to the undersigned, when an officer shall be sent. JOHN WILLIAMSON, described in Hue- and- Cry, of 28th October, 1887 ; not arrested. ( 107 H. c.) Kendal. Shopbreaking Between the hours of 8 p. m. on the 17th, and 7 a. m. on the 18th inst., the grocer's shop of Greenwood and Littlewood, Kendal, had been forcibly ontered by means of breaking a pane of glass in a ride door, and thi reby effecting an entrance and stealing therefrom about £ 2 in money, viz.:— One half- sovereign and the remainder in half- crowns, florins, shillings, sixpenny pieces, and from ten to fifteen shillings in bronze; one shilling's worth of postage stamps, a quantity of biscuits, & c. Also stolen from the " Kendal and County News- paper Publishing Offices," which adjoins the back pn mises of the above- named, between the hours of 7 p. m. on the 17th, and 7 a. m. on the 18th ' inst- T^ y means ot breaking a pane of glass in the window, and thereby effecting an entrance, about five shillings in silver, a small quantity of bronze, a penny with a hole through centre, one shilling's worth ol penny and half- penny pottage stamps, an^ a postal order for two THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS H U E - A O CRY, HABCH 2 3 , 1888. shillings bearing the Coniston Post Office Stamp, February, 1888. Chief Constable's Office, Kendal, February 18, 1888. ( 136 H. C.) THOMAS DIXON, alias Hartley, not arrested ; Hne- and- Cry, 16th January, 1888. ( 129 H. C.) Liverpool. kent. £ 100 REWARD. Wanted on warrant for fraudulently embezzling certain sums of money to the amount of £ 2,000 and upward, the monies of his employers, Messrs. Hook and Co., Paper Manufacturers, Snodland, Kent, between the 6th October, 1885, and the 10th September, 1887:— ALEXANDER EDWARD ROLLASON, late Cashier in the above firm, and who absconded on the 9th September last. He is about 45 years of age, height 5 feet 9 inches, spare gaunt man, light thin and straight hair, quick and abrupt in his manner, good regular white teeth, a little inclined to stoop, short- sighted in one eye, uses glasses, one a magnifier the other plain, sober man, not in very good health, fond of physicking himself with Homoeopathic medicines, speaks French, well read and well informed. Has a wife but no children. Has resided abroad, and been employed as commission agent and manager of Stores in London, Paris, New York, Montreal, < fcc. May seek similar situations. The above reward will be paid by " COLONEL. HOLLAND, C. B.," Ivymeath, Snodland, Kent, for infor- mation that will lead to the apprehension and trial of the accused ( Police include^). Wanted in this borough, on Warrant, charged with haudulent bankruptcy, two men, whose descriptions are as follows :— 1 R. PIERCE, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, clean smart appearance. 2 BRICE, about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, proportionate build, round face, sallow complexion, brown whiskers round face, but may be clean shaved ; dresses respectably. The first man, Pierce, was living in St. Giles'- street, in this town, with his wife, a tall, good- looking wo nan, fresh complexion, and brown hair cut short, and a little boy about 4 years of age. Another man, said to be his brother, James Pierce, was living with him, and assisting in the business, which was styled " The Bon Marche ;" tho latter is about 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, clear dark complexion. The second man, Brice, was living with his wife at 61, Sheep- street, in this town; Mrs. Brice is a stout woman, and taller than her husband. An old man and woman ( supposed parents of " Piorce.") lived in tho Horsemarket in this town, and assisted in carrying on the business of both lirms, such as making or repairing cheap furniture, & c., making up, & c.; the old man was 60 years of age, very short, with grav hair, and generally wore a high hat, and carried a stick. It is supposed that the whole of the above- described will be found trading together in other names. Their modus operandi is to open shops in names only slightly differing from some well- known firm in tho town : lor instincc, Brice ( above- des '. ribed) opened u shop in Sheep- street, in this town, as " Brice & Co.," wltcfeas, in a piincipal thoroughfare, a large firm f exists *\ Brice & Sons;" it is thus easy to obtain a quantity of goods without enquiries, which tltuse people have been doing, and then sending the same to Auction Sales in tlie town, and after thus disposing of a considerable quantity they leave without notice, and aro not heard of again. Letters of enquiry have been received lrom all pafts where these p°. ople have sent for goods, ^ ncluding furniture, rugs, mats, bedding, fancy goods, flannel, table cloths, woollen goods, & c., & c. Should any person or persons, similar to description of above, be k iown to have opened recently in your town, kindly communicate with me at once before apprehending, and some one shall be sent who can identify them. This person is supposed to be the same as described in the Police ( iazette of 15th August, 1881, Case No. 15; 17th Octob r, 1H84, Case No. 94; 3<> th October, 1885, Case No. 14; and loth April, 1887, Case No. 47.
