Notices respecting all' Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of j> ersons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issueo, » tid by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. * %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the oovers, or give the number it beafc, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Description of NANCY O'HAGAN, native of Millquarter, who stands charged with having, between the 19th November, 1887, and 31st January, 1888, in the barony of Upper Toome, parish of Ballyscullion Grange, embezzled certain monies, received from Sergeant Michael Barron, and others); also with having obtained goods under false pretences:— Slovenly in appearance, and hair thin on top of head from effects of a burn, gray eyes, regular nose, dirty swarthy complexion, thin face, stout make, 4 feet 6 or 7 inches hi^ h, about 50 years of age, brown tinged with gray hair; wore a black striped shawl, buff coloured dress, strong boots, much worn, black bonnet. Has friends in Ballymena, and Cloughmills, and a sister named Sarah Irwin, in Dumbarton shire, Scotland; is a barrack servant. Warrant in hands of the Police. Antrim, February 13, 1888. Description of PETER BARKER ( Junior), ( mother's surname Conlan), native of Newlands, who stands charged with having, on the 4th and 5th of January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Glynn, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 13 and 16 years. For said offence he was bailed to appear at Larne Petty Sessions, on 24th January, 1888, but failed to do so. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Larne : Slightly freckled face, walks with a swagger, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout • lake, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, light brown hair, no beard, whiskers or moustache; wore a Glergarry cap, blue coat, tweed trewsers, and vest; is a gardener's assistant Carrickfergus, Jan. 24, 1888. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 10th January, 1888, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast :— ^ ALEXANDER QUINN, 18 years of age, light hair, hazel eyes, light eyebrows, sharp nose, fresh complexion, loner visage, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, is a shoemaker, born at Market- hill. Parents reside dt 87, SilHa- street. Scar on back of left hand, several sppll scars on back of right side, kick mark on left shin bone. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded ;— Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, red and black tie, nailed Blucher boots and woollen stockings. No. 130. Quinn when previously an absconder was hired with a farmer named Blyth, of Brookhill. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may captuie him with £ 1. Description of BRYAN CAFFREY, native of Mount Pallas, who stands charged with having, during the months of November and December, 1887, in the barony of Clonmahon, parish of Kilbride, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a giqfc between the age of 13 and 16 years:— Wears all his beard, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair ; wore a two- peaked ( ftp, gray tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a carpenter. Description of THOMAS CALLAGHAN, native of Kanturk, county of Cork, who stands charged with having on or about the 22nd of January, 1888, in the county of Limerick, barony of Shanid, parish of Shana- golden, obtained a watch and chain and two shillings for repairs of same from Charles Sheahan, of Shana- golden, under false pretences:— Sight of right eye weak, over which he wears a goggle, blue colour, long sharp nose, small thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches in height, and about 40 years of age, brown hair tinged with gray, shaves all his face except moustache, wore a hard brown hat, brown tweed coat and vest, gray trowsers; is an itenerant watch mender, and has been guilty of similar offences in other places. Description of the watch and chain: A silver geneva watch, three quarter plate, maker's name, " P. Lennon," engraved on inner plate; value for £ 2 5s. Description of JOHN VERNON, alias JOHN M'ILVERNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of December, 1887, at Ballylenaghan, in the barony of Upper Castlereagh, parish of Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing therefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, toe- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and £ 13, made up as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four half sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Ranking Company, Limited " stamped on back :— Has an impediment in his speech, and twists his mouth when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer. Description of WILLIAM MONTGOMERY, native of Brigh, county Tyrone, who stands charged with having, on the 10th day of February, 1888, in the barony of Loughinshollen, parish of Desertlynn, embezzled the sum of £ 40, the money of the Belfast and Northern Counties Railway Company:— Square shoulders, good looking, smart appearance, light fair moustache, no whiskers, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round red face, very stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a brown hard hat, gray c* at, dark trowsers, and vest; is a stationmaster. Description of JOHN BREEN, ( mother's surname, Delany), native of Deerpark, who stands charged with having, on the 30th December, 1887, in the barony of Maryboro', parish of Clonenagh, stolen 3 heifers, the property of Thomas Fitzpatrick, and offered same for sale at Edenderry fair, on the 31st December, 1887, ( Cattle recovered):— Has a swaggering gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore an old jerry hat, old brown coat, corduroy trowsers, and two vests; is sometimes employed sinking pumps. Description of A YOUNG MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, at or about 8 p. m., 16th January, 1888, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Lower, parish of Donohill, fired three shots from a revolver at Valentine Ryan, Esq., J. P., in his house at ® Chadville, near Cappawhite:— Full large round bullet shaped eyes, blue or gray in colour, straigK nose, fair complexion, oval face, medium make, youthful, soft athletic looking, with rather square shoulders, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 18 or 20 years of age, fair or light brown hair, highly arched eyebrows, fair or light brown in colour, and evenly marked from end to end ; regular teeth in upper jaw ; wore a double peaked light gray cap and dark clothes. ' Description of Quarter- Master Sergeant GEORGE CRAWFORD, Army Service Corps, Portobello Barracks, Dublin, wanted here on Warrant, Ibr stealing a cheque for £ 25:— He ii 27 years old, 5 feet 7f inches high, sallow complexion, bltvk hair, dark moustache, rest of face shaved, brown eyes, with slight cast in right, scar on left shin. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM WILSON, A 818, convicted at Dublin, at the Commission, on 8th February, 1884, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude48 years of age on conviction, married, is a poulterer; born at Plymouth; resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends reside at Gallogate, Glasgow:— Sandy hair, blue eyes, sandy eyebrows, large nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval- worn visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high ; lost a number of teeth. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on licence, 13th January, 1888, and stated he was going to reside at Naas. He has not reported himself, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap 112. ( 132 H. c.) Description of JOSEPH BERGIN, of No. 31, Blackhall- street, Dublin, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— He is 30 years old, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, long tfrin face, black hair, small side whiskers and moustache, smart active appearance, and dressed when last seen in dark clothes. ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey, large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk hat, and laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gold rin^ n little finger. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside :— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, the' 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, county Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultimo, stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 109 H. c.) ENGLISH POLICE. Glossop. Description of THOMAS MICHAEL ELLISON, Junr., Solicitor's Clerk, who absconded on the morning of the 4th inst., « nd whose apprehension is sought under Warrant, for forgery :— Age 26 years, height, 5 feet 6 inches, build proportionate, square shoulders, complexion fresh, eyes gray, hair dark brown ( cut short), short side whiskers and moustache ( which he may have shaved off), features rather long, cheek bones and ears prominent, and largish head, walks hurriedly, with short quick steps, and leans forward from hips. Is fond of horse- racing, and probably may be found in the company of betting men, or he may endeavour to emigrate. He now holds a Lieutenant's Commission in the Glossop Detachment of the 4th Cheshire R. V. Supposed to be dressed in dark cloth overcoat and trowsers, high silk hat, and boots, and had in his possession a black portmanteau. It is earnestly requested that Chief Officers of Police will cause immediate inquiry to be made in their respective districts for the above- named, and, if met with, apprehend, and wire to the undersigned, when an officer shall be sent. JOHN WILLIAMSON, described in Hue- and- Cry, of 28th October, 1887; not arrested. ( 107 H. C.) Kendal. Shopbreaking.— Between the hours of 8 p. m. on the 17th, and 7 a. m. on the 18th inst., the grocer's shop of Greenwood and Littlewood, Kendal, had been forcibly entered by means of breaking a pane of glass in a side door, and thereby effecting an entrance and stealing therefrom about £ 2 in money, viz.:— One half- sovereign and the remainder in half- crowns, florins, shillings, sixpenny pieces, and from ten to fifteen shillings in bronze; one shilling's worth of postage stamps, a quantity of biscuits, & c. Also stolen from tbe " Kendal and County News- paper Publishing Offices," which adjoins the back premises of the above- named, between the hours] of 7 p. m. on the 17th, and 7 a. m. on the 18th inst., by means of breaking a pane of glass in the window, and thereby effecting an entrance, about five shillings in silver, a small quantity of bronze, a penny with a hole through centre, one shilling's worth of penny and half- penny postage stamps, and a postal order for twe shillings bearing the Coniston Post Office Stamp, February, 1888. The offender or offenders may have some black printing ink upon their clothes and hands. _ Ne suspicion; supposed by tramps; four boot impressions have been taken in plaster of Paris. Wanted at Kendal, charged with stealing a quantity of masons' chisels ( recovered) on the 2nd instant, THOMAS DIXON, alias Hartley, Weaver, tramping, born at Leyland, 48 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, gray hair, gray eyes, common nose, fresh complexion, proportionate build, widower, scar back of neck, on crown and bridge of nose; ri^ ht side— scar on temple, che& k, and shin ; left side— vaccination marks, D on ribs; scar on shin. 17th October, 1883, Preston Quarter Sessions, for felony, 5 years' penal servitude and 7 years' police supervision. On the 20th December, 1887, at Bow- ness, in name of John Eccleston, blacksmith's striker, begging, 14 days to Her Majesty's Prison, Kendal. Is in the habit of lodging in outbuildings. He is a convict on licence and is wanted at Preston for failing to report. He may seek employment as blacksmith's striker. Warrant issued. Photo will be sent on application. Wanted on warrant for fraudulently embezzling certain sums of money to the amount of £ 2,000 and upward, the monies of his employers, Messrs. Hook and Co., Paper Manufacturers, Snodland, Kent, between the 6th October, 1885, and the 10th September, 1887 .-— ALEXANDER EDWARD ROLLASON, late Cashier in the above firm, and who absconded on the 9th September last. He is about 45 years of age, height 5 feet 9 inches, spare gaunt man, light thin and straight hair, quick* and abrupt in his manner, good regular white teeth, a little inclined to stoop, shortsighted in one eye, uses glasses, one a magnifier the other plain, sober man, not in very good health, fond of physicking himSslf with Homoeopathic medicines, speaks French, well read and well informed. Has a wife but no children. Has resided abroad, and been employed as commission agent and manager of Storesftn London, Paris, New York, Montreal, & c. May seek similar situations. Wanted in this borough, on Warrant, charged with faaudulent bankruptcy, two men, whose descriptions are as follows :— 1 R. PIERCE, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, plean smart appearance. 2 BRICE, about 28 or 30 years ofage, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, proportionate build, round face, sallow complexion, brown whiskers round face, but may be clean shaved ; dresses respectably. Tiie first man, Pierce, was living in St. Giles'- street, in this town, with his wife, a tall, good- looking woman, fresh complexion, and brown hair cut short, and a little boy about 4 years of age. Another man, said to be his brother, James Pierce, was living with him, and assisting in the business, which was styled " The Bon Marche;" the latter is about 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, clear dark complexion. The second man, Brice, was living with his wife at 61, Sj| eep- street, in this town ; Mrs. Brice is a stout woman, and taller than her husband. An old man and woman ( supposed parents of " Pierce.") lived in the Horsemarket in this town, and assisted in carryin^ bn the business of both firms, such as making or repairing cheap furniture, & c., making up, & c.; the old man was 60 years of age, very short, with gray hair, and generally wore a high hat, and carried a stick. It is supposed that the whole of the above- described will be foimd trading together in other names. Their % odus operandi is to open shops in names only slightly differing from some well- known firm in the town : for instance, Brice ( above- described) opened a shop in Sheep- street, in this town, as " Brice & Co.," whereas, in a piincipal thoroughfare, a large firm exists " Brice & Sons;" it is thus easy to obtain a quantity of goods without enquiries, which these people have been doing, and then sending the same to Auction Sales in the town, and after thus disposing of a considerable quantity they leave without notice, and are not heard of again. Letters of enquiry have been received from all parts where these people have sent for goods, including furniture, rugs, mats, bedding, # incy goods, flannel, table cloths, woollen goods, fec^& c. Should any person or persons, similar to description of above, be known to have opened recently in your town, kindly communicate with me at once before apprehending, and some one shall be sent who can identify them. V. tatooed on left forearm. Supposed to be making his way to Ireland; and that he travelled from Darlington to Liverpool by rail, in female attire, on 26th December, 1887. Wanted at Selkirk, on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with the crime of falsehood, fraud, and wilful imposition, committed here on the 23rd December, 1887, a man, who gave the name of J. H. GUTHRIE ( supposed fictitious), stated that he was a commercial traveller, residing at 122, Downsell- road, Leyton- road, Stratford, London :— About 32 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches in height, dark hair, supposed slightly frizzled, dark side whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, fresh complexion, ordinary build, rather good- looking, of respectable appearance, and speaks with an English accent. Dressed, when seen here, in a black twilled worsted suit, dark overcoat, and dress hat with band, and carried a black handbag containing a quantity of transfers. GUTHRIE'S practice is to call on painters and represent himself as the reprerent- ttive of J. < fc W. Gray, & Co., Transfer Painters, London ; asks them to become agents for the sale of transfers, and states that those who agree to take an agency will receive a draught screen, value £ 5, covered with transfers, and that pattern books, circulars, and other advertising notices will be forwarded in a few days. Samples of transfers are then left, and money obtained on the strength of the foregoing representations, which have been found to be false. This person is supposed to be the same as described in the Police Gazette of 15th A^ ust, 1884, Case No. 15 ; 17th October, 1884, Case No. 94; 30th October, 1885, Case No. 14; and 15th April, 1887, Case No. 47. • It is requested that particular search and inquiry be made lor this person, and if found that he be appre- hended and notice sent to the subscriber, who will send for him.
