RBGITLATIONS. • tfT All Notices intended for insertion in the Tluoand- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can bo inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will bo inserted. All Descriptions of jiersons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that thep cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- wtd- Cry, it will be necessary to foi- ward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, « publin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fcc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. Description of PETER BARKER ( Junior), ( mother's surname Conlan), native of Newlsnds, who stands charged with having, on the 4th and 5th of January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Glynn, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 13 and 16 years. For said offence ho was bailed to appear at Larne Petty Sessions, on 24th January, 1888, but failed to do so. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Larne : Slightly freckled face, walks with a swagger, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, light brown hair, no beard, whiskers or moustache ; wore a Glergarry cap, blue coat, tweed trowsers, and vest; is a gardener's assistant. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 10th January, 1888, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast :— ALEXANDER QUINN, 18 years of age, light hair, hazel eyes, light eyebrows, sharp nose, fresh complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, is a shoemaker, born at Market- hill. Parents reside at 87, Silvia- street. Scar on back of left hand, several small scars on back of right side, kick mark on left shin bone. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded :— Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blg^ and white striped shirt, red and black tie, nailed Bitter boots and woollen stockings. Description of MAURICE CONNORS, native of Coolykerane, who stands charged with having, on the 25th Dec< ® iber, 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, paifeh of Cullen, stabbed Timothy Shine, of Churchill, in the left side with a penknife, thereby placing his life in danger :— Drooped shoulders, long neck, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, small thin face, slight make, 5 leet 9£ inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache; wore a brown solt hat, dark frock coat, dark corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer's son. Description of THOMAS DONOHUE ( supposed), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th November, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen two coats— No. 1, a top coat, dark brown cloth; No. 2, a short blueish green cloth shooting coat, with welted seams on sleeves ; a brown tweed trowf^ rs and a pair of shooting boots, the property of William Vokes, Manager of Lloyd's • Circus, all value for about £ 5 10*. Supposed to be wearing the clothes :— Slight squint in one eye ; hazel eyes, sharp « iose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 j ears of age ; wore a solt American hat, black coat, and tweed trowsers ; is a confectioner, but recently employed as a labourer, and travels with Lloyd's Circus. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Blackrock. Cork South, Nov. 18, 1887. ( 85106 c.— 45638.7 Description of JEREMIAH TWOHIG, native of Horsemount, who stands charged with having, on the 9th November, 1887, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Clondrohid, fired a shot at members of the Royal Irish Constabulary with intent to kill:— Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a gray two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. KEARSE, native of Cork, an absconding bankrupt, who stands charged with having, on the 13th of August, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of Cork, absconded, and taking with him a large sum of money belonging to his creditors :— Prominent chest, walks erect, active g^ t, gocd- lcoking, cheek bones prominent, large thick dark moustache; wears several rings; blue or grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark overcoat ; is a banker. D< scription of JOHN VERNON, slias JOHN M'IlVEKNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of December, 1887, at Ballylenaghan, in the barony of Upper Castlereagh, parish of Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing therefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, toe- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and £ 13, madeup as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four half sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Banking Company, Limited " stamped on back :— Has an impediment in his speech, and twists his. mouth when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer. May probably be wearing the stolen boots. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Newtownbreda. Newtownards, Dec. 13, 1887. ( 85586 c._ 46598.) Dublin. Description of FOUR PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th October, 1887, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilmactolway, unlawfully assaulted James Sheridan ( Junior), and robbed him of sixpence :— 1. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore a moleskin trousers and vest; apparently a Labourer. 2. Dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 20 yeaii, of age, dark hair ; wore a faded black coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 3. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 5 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 4. Shaved face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 35 years of age, dark turning gray hair. Lucan, 24th November, 1887. ( 85216 45T36.) £ 100 REWARD. POISONING OP 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER 1887. Captain H. Steeds offers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for above malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals poisoned, and in the bran mashes used to convey the poison, it is desired that all stations should look up chemists, druggists, grocers, & c., who may have sold arsenic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, ic., and communicate with R. C. COLERIDGE, IstD. I., R. I. C. Depot. Kildare. Description of three tramps, who stand charged with having, on the 29th November, 1887, in the barony of Kilcullen, parish of Kilcullen, waylaid and robbed Maurice Dillon, of Knockbounce, county Kildare, and stole from him one pale leather coloured purse fastened with one spring clasp, and which contained one shilling in silver and nine pence in coppers:— 1. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, FEBRUARY 3, 1888. • JOHN WILLIAMS, alias JOHN CHARLES, alias JOHN BERGIN, native of Plymouth, who has been committed for trial to the Winter Assizes, charged with burglary, and robbary of £ 19 7s. 10d., two bottles of whiskey, and some small articles ( which have all baen recovered), the propojty of Mrs Anne Fennin, of Bracknagh. The accused, on the 27th October last, pawned a silver lever hunting watch, No. 26094; maker's name, John Johnes, 338 " Strand," which is supposed to have been stolen. Any information re- garding him, including previous convictions, to be addressed to the District Inspector, Athy :— Marks of scar on left cheek, blue eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trousers, tweed vest; small light sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers; goes by tie name of " Foxy Jack;" served in the army; stage dancer. Description of WILLIAM HOGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1887, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, stolen a coat and vest, value for £ 1, and a pair of elastic side boots much worn, value for 4s.; the coat and vest have been found in a Pawn Office Cast in both eyes; regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of age; is a Carpenter, and served 12 years in the Royal Engineers; smart active appearance. Limerick. • Description of JOHN KENNEDY, native of Limerick city, who stands charged with having, during present month, in the borough of Limerick, parish of St. Mary's, slolen a number of plain gold rings ( old), having two ( 2) file marks inside each, value for about £ 15, the property of John P. Kearney, Pawnbroker: Red tender eyes, long nose, red complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 3I years &{ age, light brown hair; wore" a dark tweed sack coat, moleskin trowsers and dark vest, is a mason. Warrant • n hands of District Inspector, for arrest of Kennedy. Limerick, January 31, 1888. ( 86490 c 48336.) Descriptions of FRANCIS KEEFFE and MICHAEL REIDY, natives of Templeglautin, who stand charged with having, on the 16th April, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, at Abbeyfeale, committed an indecent assault on Nano McCarthy. For said offence they # ore returned for trial to Quarter Sessions, at Rathkeale, on 7th October, 1887, . but failed to appear for trial at said Quarter Ses- sions :— 1. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin hardy face, medium make, 5 feet IS inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a jerry hat, dark grey coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. 2. Grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. Feigns bad health. Bench Warrants have been issued for the arrest of these two men, and the Warrants are in the hands of the Police at Abbeyfeale. Abbeyfeale, November 22, 1887. ( 85179 c 45770.) Longford. Description of JAMES RATIGAN, native of Carrickedmond, who stands charged with having, on the 21st January, 1888, in the barony of Shrule, parish of Tashinny, seriously assaulted Sergeant Anthony Garvin, R. I. C, by striking him with a stone, on the forehead, :— Thick short neck, exposes his teeth when speaking; gray eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, long face, stout make, 5 feat 6 or 7 inches high, about 32 years of aga, sho't side whiskers, brown hair; wore a sofwblack hat, dark coat, dark trowcers, dark vest ( Tweed); is a labourer. Ballymahon, Jan. 26, 1888. ( 86440c.— 48253.) by fracturing his skull, whereby hj § life is in danger:— Smart active appearance, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium mike, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair, and small dark moustache; wore a soft hat, light ^ yfeed coat, corduroy trousers, and light tweed vest; is a farmer's son. Longford, Jan., 9, 1888. ( 85041 c.— 47493.) Louth. Description of a MAN, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th day of December, 1887, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Smarmore, committed a rape on one Mary Malone, of Ardee : — Supposed to have the mark of a bite on the back of one of his hands ; pale complexion, whitish face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age ; wore a round black cap, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers; supposed to be a tramp. Description of DOMINICK GALLAGHER, native of Glann East, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in the barony of (^ stello, parish of Kilbiagh, stabbed Patrick M'Gowan in the neck, from the effects of which he died on 27th inst. :— Speaks with an English accent, was in America, very long drooped nose, flushed long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 42 years of age, has shaved off beard, whiskers, and moustache; wore a low hat, dark coat, ® weed or cord trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer. F#: — Scars on face; blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, shaved face, stout make, 6 feet 4 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. Description of JOHN BREEN, ( mother's surname, Delany), native of Deerpark, who stands charged with having, on the 30th December, 1887, in the barony of Maryboro', parish of Clonenagh, stolen 3 heifers, the property of Thomas Fitzpatrick, and offered same for sale at Edenderry fair, on the 31st December, 1887, ( Cattle recovered):— Has a swaggering gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore an old jerry hat, old brown coat, corduroy trowsers, and two vests; is sometimes employed sinking pumps. Description of A YOUNG MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, at or about 8 p. m., 16th January, 1888, in the barOny of Kilnamanagh Lower, parish of Donohill, fired three shots from a revolver at Valentine Ryan, Esq., j. p., in his house at Chadville, near Cappawhite:— Full large r « und bullet shaped eyes, blue or gray in colour, straight nose, fair complexion, oval face, medium make, youthful, soft athletic looking, with rather square shoulders, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, abotit 18 or 2Q^ years of age, fair or light brown hair, highly arched eyebrows, fair or light brown in colour, and evenly marked from end to end; regular teeth in upper jaw ; wore a double peaked light gray cap and dark clothes. Description of ROBERT BLACK ( Junior), native of Montober, who stands charged with having, on the 7th January, 1888, in the barony o5' Upper, Dungannon, parish of Derryloran, administere( f|&| ig8 to one Martha Bayne, with inten, L= » t^^ Wfcure abortion:— Walks erect, square shoulders, broad fore- head, very fair eyebrows, gray eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 or 30 years of age, fair hair ; wore a light brown hard hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. The Police at Cookstown hold a Warrant for his arrest. Cookstown, Jan. 25, 1888. ( 86369 c 48131.) Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of November, 1887, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzled the sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon :— Downcast look; resembles a horse or cattle dealer, gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 55 years of age, gray hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a land steward. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Constabulary at Caledon; £ 50 reward will be paid by Earl of Caledon for such infor- mation as will lead to his arrest. Aughnacloy, Nov. 19, 1887. Description of JOSEPH BERGIN, of No. 31, Blackball- street, Dublin, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— He is 30 years old, 5 feet 10 or 11 incl# s high, sallow complexion, lonjf thin face, black hair, small side whiskers and moustache, smart active appearance, and dressed when last seen in dark clothes. InfoHnation to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superii^ ndent's Office, G. Division. • 31st January, 1888. Particulars relative to GEORGE GREATRIX, English supervisee, convicted at Middlesex Sessions, on 6th December. 1880, for larceny in dwelling- house and recei^ jig afte r previous conviction, and Sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years police supervision:— 26 years of age on conviction, single, is a photogsapher; born in Liverpool, resided before conviction at Camden road, London, where his friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, oval visMje, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, scars front of ms, and right side of belly, mol on right collar bone, sear below chest left side. This supervisee, on the 17th ult., reported to the JDublin Police that he was going to Belfast, but he lias not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ( 125 H. C.) Description of JOHN D. ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey,- large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk hat, and laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gold ring on little finger. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G. Division, December 1, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside :— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, the 4th October, 18 87, and went to Head- ford, county Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultiuq^ stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has jgt reported himself at the latter place, and his pfeS^ whereabouts is unknown. tfn the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. C.) • THE POLICE ( GAZETTE, OB HUE- AND- CRY, FEBRUARY 3, 1888. * « n( - Tn laui ^ Particulars relative to Convict MARY GABRIEL, a" 119, convicted at Waterford, at the Quarter Sessions, on 23rd January, 1884, lor larceny, adfl sen- *< mced to5 years' penal servitude:— 31 years of age on Eviction, married, is a prostitute, prison trade, laundress; born in " Waterford, resided before con- viction in Waterford, where her friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, long nose, medium month, sallow complexion, long visage, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison on licence, the 18th June, 1887. She recently left her residence 17, Ardee- street, Dublin, without reporting same to the Police, and her present where- abouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with onder the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. October 20, 1887. Wore dark overcoat with Astrachan collar, and silk hat, with black band. V. tatooed on left forearm. Supposed to be making his way to Ireland; and that he travelled from Darlington to Liverpool by rail, in female attire, on 26th December, 1887. The person described below is wanted here on a Sheriffs warrant, charged with cattle stealing in this countv, on 15th July, 1886. He fled to America at that nme, has since returned, enlisted at Edinburgh on 9th October last, in the Scots Fusiliers, joined the Regiment at Ayr, got seven days leave of absence on 21 st November, and has failed to rejoin. Was wearing a medal, which he said he got from tho Canadian Government for taking part in suppressing the Reil rebellion:— JOHN PROCTOR, native of Udny, Aberdeenshire, 24 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 8^ inches high, without shoes, brown hair, fresh complexion, blue eyes, full 1 ace, heavy brows, cut mark on brow, slight brown moustache, stout make. Speaks with English accent; says has sailed as a Ship' s Steward ; has been several times in the army ; mother's name " Emslie." When " Proctor" left Ayr, had with him short gray tweed jacket; dark cloth vest; brown striped trousers, strap and pocket behind; blue sailor's jersey, and blue fatigue dress ; was in the 42nd Regiment, under name of James Paterson, deserted at Currie, Ireland, 15th May, 1885, and has not been apprehended. Please cause particular enquiry to be made for this man, especially at Recruiting Stations and Military Depots, as it is believed he will re- enlist. Wanted, under a Sheriff's Warrant, on a charge of fraud, committed in this county, GEORGE CURRIE, baker, a native ot Aultmore, Banffshire, about 23 years of age, height about 5 feet 8 inches, hair and complexion dark and sallow, round face, dark eyes, nose regular and small, full cheeks, large mouth, one tooth in front of upper jaw broken, no whiskers, very slight dark moustache, proportionate make, dressed in blue perge or gray tweed jacket, and drab- coloured overcoat, gray treed vest, gray tweed or brown worsted cord trowsers, elastic- sided or long Welling- ton boots, black hard felt hat, about 11 stones in weight, is of very temperate habits. Accused absconded from Keith about 5 A. M. on 26th curt., and is supposed to be possessed of about £ 50, in cash, and very probably will endeavour to emigrate. During 1885 he wrought at his trade in London, where he has a half- brother named Scott, a Detective Sergeant in the Police, and a cousin named Lennox, a Police Inspector there. The accused, on the 27th October last, pawned a silver lever hunting watch, No. 26094; maker's name, John Johnes, 338 " Strand," which is supposed to have been stolen. Description of A YOUNG MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, at or about 8 p. m., 16th January, 1888, in the baroftly of Kilnamanagh Lower, parish of Donohill, fired three shots from a revolver at Valentine Ryan, Esq., j. p., in his house at Chadville, near Cappawhite:— Full large r « und bullet shaped eyes, blue or gray in colour, straight nose, fair complexion, oval face, medium make, youthful, soft athletic looking, with rather square shoulders, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 18 or 2Qgyears of age, fair or light brown hair, highly arched eyebrows, fair or light brown in colour, and evenly marked from end to end; regular teeth in upper jaw ; wore a double peaked light gray cap and dark clothes. Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of November, 1887, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzled the sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon:— Downcast look; resembles a horse or cattle dealer, gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 55 years of age, gray hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a land steward. Particulars relative to GEORGE GREATRIX, English supervisee, convicted at Middlesex Sessions, on 6th December. 1880, for larceny in dwelling- house and recei\^ pg afte r previous conviction, and Sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years police supervision:— 26 years of age on conviction, single, is a photogsapher; born in Liverpool, resided before conviction at Camden road, London, where his friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, oval visM[ e, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, scars front of m> s, and right side of belly, moll on right collar bone, scar below chest left side. This supervisee, on the 17th ult., reported to the - Dublin Police that he was going to Belfast, but he nas not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ( 125 H. ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey,- large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk hat, and laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gold ring on little finger. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside :— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, the 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, county Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultirq^ stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has j^ t reported himself at the latter place, and his pi'aS^ whereabouts is unknown. • n the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112.
