TIOICI HT All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Ory are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. ' * Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. t All Descriptions of persona whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary shou1' 1 ' — they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. Should iiregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Crj ® it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it l^ ars, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Description of PETER BARKER ( Junior), ( mother's surname Conlan), native of Newlands, who stands charged with having, on the 4tli and 5th of January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Glynn, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 13 and 16 years. For said offence he was bailed to appear at Larne Petty Sessions, on 24th January, 1888, but failed to do so. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Larne : Slightly fftckled la<; e, walks with a swagger, blue eyes, regular nose, 1' icsh complexion, round lull face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, abmt 19 years of age, light brown hair, no beard, whiskers or moustache ; wore a Glcrgarry cap, blue coat, tweed trowseis, and vest; is a gardener's assistant. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 10th January, 1888, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Reliast :— ALEXANDER QUINN, 18 years of age, light hair, hazel eyes, light eyebrows, sharp nose, fresh complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, is a shoemaker, born at Market- hill. Parents reside at 87, Silvia- street. Scar on back of left hand, several small scars on back of right side, kick mark on left shin bone. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded :— Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, red and bl ick tie, nail^ l Bluchcr boots and woollen stockings, No. 130. Quinn when previously an absconder was hired with a farmer named Blyth, of Brookhill. Description of MAURICE CONNORS, native of Coolykerane, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, stabbed Timothy Shine, of Churchill, in the left side with a penknife, thereby placing his life in danger :— Drooped shoulders, long neck, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, small thin face, slight make, 5 feft 9^ inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache; wore a brown solt hat, dark frock coat, dark corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer's son. Description of THOMAS DONOHUE ( supposed), native plgpe unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th November, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen two coats— No. 1, a top coat, dark brown cloth; No. 2, a short blueisli green cloth shooting coat, with welted seams on sleeves; a brown tweed trowsers and a pair of shooting boots, the property of William Vokes, Manager of Lloyd's Circus, all value for about £ 5 10.?. Supposed to be wearing the clothes :— Slight squint in one eye ; hazel eyes, sharp nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age ; wore a solt American hat, black coat, and tweed trowscrs ; is a confectioner, but recently employed as a labourer, and travels with Lloyd's Circus. Description of JEREMIAH TWOHIG, native of Horsemount, who stands charged with having, on the Qth No—" jiber, 1887, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Clondrohid, fired a shot at members of the Royal Irish Constabulary with intent to kill:— Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair9 wore a gray two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. ( 84575 c.— 45382.) Description of WILLIAM J. KEARSE, native of Cork, an absconding bankrupt, who stands charged with having, on ® the 13th of August 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of Cork, absconded, and taking with him a large sum of money belonging to his creators :— Prominent chest, walks erect, active gait, good- looking, cheek bones prominent, large thick dark moustache; wears several rings; blue or grey eyes, Description of JAMES BARRY, native of Lack- nacummeen, and DAVID CRONIN, native of Ballinacourtha, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 23rd October, 1887, in the barony of Kinaralea, parish of Clontade, indecently assaulted Catherine Henerty, aged 15 years :— 1. Swaggering gait, walks erect, hollow in back, military appearance, grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, fair hair, dark moustache; wore a black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and militia man. 2. Short thick neck, grey eyes, short slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, dark hair: wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer, farmer's son. Description of MARTHA JANE CLARKE, native of Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Ards, parish oi Bangor, stolen from her empl yer, James E. Johnston, a pair of lady's laced boots, nearly new, and value for about 12s.— Large blue eyes, cocked nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 14 or 15 years of age, fair hair ; wore a brown hat trimmed with plush, black twilled jacket trimmed with black fur, and brown velvet dress ; she accompanies her father, who is a tramp, from town to town. Description of JOHN VERNON, alias JOHN M'ILVERNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of December, 1887, at Ballylenaghan, - in the barony of Upper Castlercagh, parish of Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing therefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, tos- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and £ 13, made up as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four hall sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Banking Company, Limited " stamped on bafk :— Has an impediment in his speech, and twists his mouth when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer. Description of FOUR PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th October, 1887, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilmactolway, unlawfully assaulted James Sheridan ( Junior), and robbed him of sixpence :— 1. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore a moleskin trousers and vest; apparently a Labourer. 2. Dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 20 year., of age, dark hair ; wore a faded black coat, trousers, and • est; apparently a Labourer. 3. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 5 feet high, about 40 years of age, darfc hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 4. Shaved face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 35 years of age, dark turning gray hair. • Lucan, 24th November, 1887. ( 85216 45? 36.) £ 100 REWARD. POISONING OF 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. Captain H. Steeds offers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for above malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals poisoned, and in the bran mashes used to convey the poison, it ia desired that all stations should look up chemists, druggists, grocers. & c., who may have sold arsenic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, ifec., and communicate with R. C. COLERIDGE, 1st D. I., R. I. C. Depot. Kildare. Description of three tramps, who stand charged with having, on the 29th November, 1887, in the barony of Kilcullen, parish of Kilcullen, waylaid and robbed Maurice Dillon, of Knockbounce, county Kildare, and stole from him one pale leather coloured purse fAtened with one spring ^ lasp, and which contained one shilling in silver and nine pence in coppers:— 1. Black whiskers. 2. Black whiskers. 3. Small slight make. Athy, December 1, 1887. ( 85386 c.— 46188.) JOHN WILLIAMS, alias JOHN CHARLES, alias JOHN BERGIN, native of Plymouth, who has been committed for trial tj the Winter Assizes, charged wi^ h burglary, and robbery of £ 19 7s. 10d., two bottles of whiskey, and some small articles ( which have all been recovered), the property of Mrs Anne Fennin, of tiracknagh. The accused, on the 27th October last, pawned a silver lever hunting watch, No. 26094; makers name, John Johnes, 338 " Strand." which is supposed to have been stolon. Any information re- garding him, including previous convictions, to be addrcssod to the District Inspector, Athy :— Marks of scar on left cheek, blue eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh comploxion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trousers, tweed vest; small light sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers; goes by tl e name of " Foxy Jack ;" served in the army; stage dancer. It is Tequostod that anything known about this man be communicated to the Dis- trict Inspector at Athy. Athy, Nov. 25, 1887. ( 85259 c— 45921.) Description of WILLIAM HOGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1887, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, stolen a coat and vest, value for £ 1, and a pair of elastic side boots much worn, value for 4s.; tho coat and vest haveJiorsn found in a Pawn Office:— Cast in both eyes; regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of age; is a Carpenter, and served 12 years in the Royal Engineers; smart active appearance. Warrant in hands of t^ e Kildare Police. Kildare, November IS, 1897, ( 35 107 c— 15S39.) King's. Description of PATRICK CRAIG, native of Rathdowney, Queen's county, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of April, 1887, in the barony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted his wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, wheroby they have become destitute and have been since in Tullamore Union Workhouse and receiving relie^ therein :— Three marks of small pox on right temple, round shoulders and short neck, large blue eyes, regular nose, llorid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of ago, dark hair; wore a light twcod coat, trowsors, and vest; is a maltster. A warrant in the hands of the Tullamore Royal Irish Constabulary for his arrest, and the Tullamore Guardians will defray all expenses if arrested. Tullamore, Octobcr 26th 1887. ( 84701 c 44916.) Limerick. Descriptions of FRANCIS KEEFFE and MICHAEL REIDY, natives of Templeglautin, who stand charged with having, on the 16th April, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, at Abbeyfeale, committed an indecent assault on Nano McCarthy. For said offence they were returned for trial to Quarter Sessions, at Rathkeale, on 7th October, 1887, but failed to appear for trial at said Quarter Ses- sions :— 1. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin hardy face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a jerry hat, dark grey coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. 2. Grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. Feigns bad health. Bench Warrants have been issued for the arrest of these two men, and the Warrants are in the hands of the Police at Abbeyfeale. Abbeyfeale, November 22, 1887. Description of JAMES RATIGAN, native of Carrickedmond, who stands charged with having, on the 21st January, 1888, in the barony of Shrule, parish of Tashinnv, seriously assaulted Sergeant Anthony Garvin, R. I. C, by striking him witlga stone, on the forehead, :— Thick short neck, exposes his teeth when speaking; gray eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 32 years of age, shyt side whiskers, brown hair; wore a soft black hat, dark coat, dark trowsers, dark vest ( Tweed); is a labourer. ( 86440c.— 48253^) D Description of FRANCIS M'GLYNN, native of rumlish, who stands charged with having on the nd January, 1888, in the barony of Longford, an<^ Parish of Killoe, seriously assaulted Francis Mullerry, by fracturing his skull, whereby his life is in danger:— Smart active appearance, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair, and small dark moustache; wore a soft hat, light tweed coat, corduroy trousers, and light tweed vest; is a farmer's son. Description of a MAN, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th day of December,* 1837, in the barony of Ardoe, parish of Smarmore, committed a rape on one Mary Malone, of Ardee: — Supposed to have the mark of a bite on the back of one of his hinds; pale complexion, whitHh face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of S* » e ; wore a round black cap, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers; supposed to be a tramp. Description of DOMINICK GALLAGHER, native of Glann East, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1837, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbiagh, stabbed Patrick M'Gowan in tho neck, from the effects of which he died on 27th inst. :— Speaks with an English accent, was in America, very long drooped nose, flushed long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 42 years of age, has shaved off beard, whiskers, and mousta -. he; wore a low hat, dark coat, tweed or cord trowsors, and dark vest'; is a farmer. Description of JAMES KELLY ( mother's surname M'Nulty), native of Sonnagh, who stands charged with hiving, on the 25th day of November. 1877, in tho barony of Costello parish of Kilbeagh, seriously as- saulted Dominick Colleran, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger:— Blue eyes, short nose, fre- h complerion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 2- t of age, light brown hair; wore a hard felt hat, dark tweed coat, trousers and vest; is a fanner. Description of a MAN, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 1st December, 1887, in the barony of Upper Deece, parish of Gallow, stolen a reversible wat - rproof coat, black oi one side and white on the other, value tor about 10s., the property of Captain Bomford, J. P. :— scars on face; blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, shave! faoe, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 30 years of ago, fair hair; wore a tweod coat, trousers, and vott. Description of JOHN BREEN, ( mother's surname Delany), native of Deerpark, who stands charged with having, on the 30th December, 1887, in the barony of Maryboro', parish of Clonenagh, stolen 3 heifers, the property of Thomas Fitzpatrick, and offered same for sale at Edenderry fair, on the 31st December, 1887, ( Cattle recovered):— Has a swaggering gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore an old jerry hat, old brown coat, corduroy trowsers, and two vests; is sometimes employed sinking pumps. Description of A YOUNG MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, at or about 8 p. m., 16th January, 1888, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Lower, parish of Donohill, fired three shots from a revolver at Valentine Ryan, Esq., j. p., in his house at Chadville, near Cappawhite:— Full large round bullet shaped eyes, blue or gray in colour, straight nose, fair complexion, oval face, medium make, youthful, soft athletic looking, with rather square shoulders, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 18 or 20 years ofage, fair or light brown hair, highly arched eyebrows, fair or light brown in colour, and evenly marked from end to end ; regular teeth in upper jaw ; wore a double peaked light gray cap and dark clothes. dundrum, January 20, 1888. ( 72623 c.— 47843.) 0 Tyrone. • Description of ROBERT BLACK ( Junior), native of Montober, who 3tan<^ charged with having, on the fth January, 1888, in the barony of Upper Dungannon, parish of Derryloran, administered drugs to one Martha Bayne, with intent to procure abortion :— alfes erect, square shoulders, broad fore- head, very fair eyebrows, gray eyes, straight nose, fair complAion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 or 30 years of age, fair hair : wore a light brown hard hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest f is a farmer's son. The Police at Cookstown hold a Warrant fer his arrest. Cookstown, Jan. 25, 1888. ( 86369c 48131.) Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of November, 1887, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzled the sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon :— Downcast look; resembles ^ horse or cattle dealer, gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 55 years of age, jg- ay hair ; wore a low hat, dark^ oat, trowsers, and wst; is a land steward. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Constabulary at Caledon; £ 50 reward will be paid by Earl of Caledon for such infor- mation as will lead to his arrest. • Aughnacloy, Nov. 19, 1887. ( 85132 c.— 45683.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, G Division. Particulars relative to GEORGE GREATRIX, English supervisee, convicted at Middlesex Sessions, on 6th December. 1880, for larceny in dwelling- house and receiving after previous conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years police supervision:— 26 years of age on conviction, single, is a photographer; born in Liverpool, resided before conviction at Camden road, London, where his friends reside ; brown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, SQUFST front of ribs, and right side of belly, mole ^ BT right collar bone, scar below chest left side. This supervisee, on the 17th . It., reported to the Dublin Police that he was going to Belfast, but he has not reported himseif at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ( 125 H. ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey, large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk hat, and laced boots, and gerftrally wears eye- glasses, and a gold ring on little finger. Division, • ccember 1, 1887. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, JANUARY 31 , 1888. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A. 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside:— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, the 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, county Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultimo, stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 109 H. c.) When " Proctor" left Ayr, had with him short gray tweed jacket; dark cloth vest; brown striped trousers, strap and pocket behind ; blue sailor's jersey, and blue fatigue dress ; was in the 42nd Regiment, under name of James Paterson, deserted at Currie, Ireland, 15th May, 1885, and has not been apprehended. Please cause particular enquiry to be made for this man, especially at Recruiting Stations and Military Depots, as it is believed he will re- enlist.
