CP* All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Ory are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal IriA Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated, by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that tfcey cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will bo necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities* are particularly requested to good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, tic., and of any circum^ ances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. • DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 1888. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 10th January, 1888, absconded froflf the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast : ALEXANDER QUINN, 18 years of age, light hair, hazel eyes, light eyebrows, sharp nose, fresh complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, is a shoemaker; born at Market- hill. Parents reside at 87, Silvia- street. Scar on back of " left'hand, several small scars on back of right side, kick mark on left shin bone. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded : Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white stripe^' shfrt^ red * and Wa « k> tie, nailed Blucher bOots and woollen stockings. No. 130. Quinn when previously an absconder was hired with a farmer named Blyth, of Brookhill. " The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with XI. ( 127 H. C.) i i Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 8th November, 1887, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast: JOHN KELSO, 509, 15 years of age, brown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, sharp nose, oval visage, medium make, 4 feet 11 inches high. Formerly belonged to Belfast; his parents- reside at Cabul- street, Belfast. Small mole on left shoulder. The school drees, all with tho Reformatory stamp, consists of:— Glengarry cap, ' eskin trowsers, vest, and tunic, nailed Blucher b( No. 95. Description of - the undernamed young offender, who, on the 8th November, 1887, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast;— JaMES CLARKE, 469, 14 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, saddle nose, round visage. • Formerly belonged to Belfast; his parents reside at 1J1, Lemon's- row, Belfast. Description of MAURICE CONNORS, native of Coolykerane, v^ io stands charged with having, on the 25t^ December, 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, stabbed Timothy Shine, of Churchill, in the left side with a penknife, thereby placing his life in dagger :— Drooped shoulders long neck, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh coffiplexioh,' small thin face, sligfit make, 5 feet ( 0J inches high, hbout 19 years of age, fair hqir, no ' beard, '' whiskers, - m moustache; wore a broton soft; hat, • dslisk ' frock coat', 1' dajk corduroy trowsers, and dark' vejt; is a farmer's son. S^ j^ of TImOThY CONNOR native of h, iwno _ stands,, charged with- having,. on the November;." 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, f Cullen, been one of a party of five men who, anij disguised, entered the houses of Ellen Curtain and Miss Philpott, fired shots, and seriously asgaujted one Daniel Conway, at Knocknageeha:— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Kanturk, Dec. 20, 1887. ( 85231 c.— 46916.) Description of THOMAS DONOHUE ( supposed), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th November, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen two coats— No. 1, Aop coat, dark brown cloth; No. 2, a short blueish green cloth shooting coat, with welted seams on sleeves; a brown tweed trowsers and a pair of shooting boots, the property of William Vokes, Manager of Lloyd's Circus, a£ value for about X5 IOj. Supposed to be wearing the clothes :— Slight squint in one eye; hazel eyes, sharp nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age ; wore a soft American hat, black coat, and tweed trowsers ; is a confectioner, but recently employed as a labourer, and travels with Lloyd's Circus. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Blackrock. Cork South, Nov. 18, 1887. ( 85106 c.— 4563^) Description of JEREMIAH TWOHIG, native V Horsemount, who stands charged with having, on the 9th November, 1887, in the barony of West Musketry, parish of Clondrohid, fired a shot at members of the Royal Irish Constabulary with intent to kill:— Smart, active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular. face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 yeaflf of age, dark brown hair; wore a gray two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. KEARSE, native of Cork, an absconding bankrupt, who stands charged with having, on the 13th of August, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of Cork, absconded, and taking with him a large sum of money belonging to his creditors:— Prominent chest, walks erect, active gait, good- looking, cheek bones prominent, large thick dark moustache; wears several rings 5 blue or grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark overcoat; is a banker. Description of JAMES BARRY, native of Lack- nacummeen, and DAVID CRONIN, native of Ballinacourtha, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 23rd October, 1887, in the barony of Kinaralea, parish of Clontade, indecently assaulted Catherine Henerty, aged 15 years :— 1. Swaggering gait, walks erect, hollow in back, military appearance, grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, fair hair, dark moustache; wore • a black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and militia man. 2. Short thick neck, grey e^ s, short slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest} is a labourer, farmer's son. Description of MARTHA JANE CLARKE, native of Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Ards, parish of Bangor, stolen from her empl yer, James E. Johnston, a pair of lady's laced boots, nearly new, and value for about 12s.— Large blue eyes, cocked nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 14 or X5 years of age, fair hair ; wore a brown hat trimmed with plush, black twilled jacket triqjmed with black fur, and brown velvet dress ; she accompanies her father, who is a tramp, from town to town. Warrant- for her arrest in the hands of the Constabulary at Bangor. Newtownards, Jan. 6,1888. ( 86030 47461.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OB HUE- AND- CRY, JANUARY 24, 1888. Description of JOHN VERNON, alias JOHN M'ILVERNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of December, 1887, at Ballylenaghan, in the baronf of Upper Castlereagh, parish of Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing tnerefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, toe- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and £ 1 3, made up as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four half sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Banking Company, Limited " stamped on back :— Has an impediment in his speech, and twists his mouth when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer. May probably be faring the stolen boots. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Newtownbreda. Newtownards, Dec. 13, 1887. ( 85586 c.— 46598.) dublin. Description of FOUR PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th October, 1887, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilmactolway, unlawfully assaulted James Sheridan ( Junior), and robbed him of sixpence:— 1. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 6 feet high, about 80 years of age, sandy hair; wore a moleskin trousers and vest; apparently a Labourer. 2. Dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 20 year_ of age, dark hair ; wore a faded black coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 3. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 5 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; fcrore a dark tweed coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 4. Shaved face, stout make, 5 feet high* about 35 years of age, dark turning gray hair. Lucan, 24th November, 1887. ( 85216 45? 36.) £ 100 REWARD. POISONING OF 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. Captain H. Steeds offers above reward for such infompation as would lead to a conviction for above malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals pcfioned, and in the bran mashes used to convey the ( poison, it is desired that all stations should look op cheiftists, druggists, grocers, & c., who may have sold arsenic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, jus* and communicate with R. C. COLERIDGE, 1st D. I., R I. C. Depot Kildare. . Description of three tramps, who stand charged with having, on the 29th November, 1887, in the barony of Kilcullen, parish of Kilcullea, waylaid and robbed • Maurice Dillon, of Knockbonnce, county Kildare, and stole from him one pale leather coloured purse fastened with one spring clasp, and which contained one shilling in silver and nine pence in coppers:— 1. Qiack whiskers. 2. Black whiskers. 3. Small slight make. Athy, December 1, 1887. ( 85386 c 46188.) JOHN WILLIAMS, alias JOHN CHARLES, alias JOHN BERGIN, native of Plymouth, who has been committed for trial to the Winter Assizes, charged with burglary, and robbery of £ 19 7s. 10d., two bottles of whiskey, and some small articles ( which have all been recovered), the property of Tdrs Anne Fennin, of Bracknagh. The accused, on the 27th October last, pawned a silver lever hunting watch, No. 26094; maker's name, John Johnes, 338 " Strand," which is supposed to have been stolen. Any information re- garding him, including previous convictions, to be addressed to the District Inspector, Athy:— Marks of scar on left cheek, bine eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trousers, tweed vest; small light sandy moustache, no Ward or whiskers; goes by the name of " Foxy Jack;" served in the army; stage dancer, if is requested that anything known about this man be communicated to the Dis- trict Inspector at Athy. Athy, Nov. 25, 1887. ( 85259 c.— 45921.) Description of WILLIAM HOGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1887, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, stolen a coat and vest, value for £ 1, and a pair of elastic side boots much worn, value for 4s.; the coat and vest have been found in a Pawn Office: Cast in both eyes; regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of age; is a Carpenter, and served 12 years in the Royal Engineers; smart active appearance. Warrant in hands of the Kildare Police. Kildare, November 18, 1887, ( 85107 45639.) King's. Description of PATRICK CRAIG, native of Rathdowney, Queen's county, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of April, 1887, in the barony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted his wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, whereby they • have become destitute and have been since in Tullamore Union Workhouse and receiving relief therein :— Three marks of small pox on right temple, round sholnders and short neck, large blue eyes, regular nose, florid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of age, dark hair ; wore a light tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a maltster. A warrant in the h » nds of the Tullamore Royal Irish Constabulary for his arrest, and the Tullamore Guardians will defray all expenses if arrested. Tullamore, October 26th 1887. ( 84704 C.— 44916.) Limerick. Descriptions of FRANCIS KEEFFE and MICHAEL REIDY, natives of Templeglautin, who stand charged with having, on the 16th April, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, at Abbeyfeale, committed an indecent assault on Nano McCarthy. For said offence they were returned for trial to Quarter Sessions, at Rathkeale, on 7th October, 1887, but failed to appear for trial at said Quarter Ses- sions :— 1. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin hardy face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a jerry hat, dark grey coat, txousers, and vest; is a Labourer. 2. Grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. Feigns bad health. 0 Bench Warrants have been issued for the arrest of these two men, and the Warrants are in the hands of the Police at Abbeyfeale. Abbeyfeale, November 22, 1887. (^ 179 c 45770.) Longford. • Description of FRANCIS M'GLYNN, native of Drumlish, who stands charged with having on the 2nd January, 1888, in the barony of Longford, tod parish of Killoe, seriously assaulted Francis M^ larry, by fracturing his skull, whereby his life is in danger:— 1 Smart aetive appearance, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair, and small dark moustache; wore a soft hat, light tweed coA, corduroy trousers, and light tweed vest; is a farmer's son. Description of a MAN, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th day of December; 1887, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Smarmore, committed a rape on one Mary Malone, of Ardee:— Supposed to have the mark of a bite on the back of one of his hands ; pale complexion, whitish face, meiMaji make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of % e ; wore a round black cap, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers; supposed to be a tramp. Description of DOMINICK GALLAGHER, native of Glann East, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbiagh, stabbed Patrick M'Gowan in the neck, from the effects of whicn he died on 27th inst. :— Speaks with an English accent, was in America, very long drooped nose, flushed long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 42 years of age, has shaved off beard, whiskers, and moustache ^ wore a low hat, dark coat, tweed or cord trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer. Description of JAMES KELLY ( mother's surname M'Nulty), native of Sonnagh, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of November, 1877, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbeagh, seriously as- saulted Dominick colleran, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger:— Blue eyes, short nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 28 years of age, light brown hair; wore a hard felt hat, dark tweed coat, trousers and vest; is a farmer. Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the District Inspector, Swinford, County of Mayo. Swinford, Nov. 30, 1887. ( 85339 c.— 46078.) # meath. Description of a MAN, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 1st December, 1887, in the barony of Upper Deece, parish of Gallow, stolen a reversible waterproof coat, black on one sid# and white on the other, value for about 10s., the property of Captain Bomford, J. P. :— Scars on face; bine eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, shaved face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 30* years of age, fair hair; wore a tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. Description of JOHN BREEN, ( mother's surname, Delany), native of Deerpark, who stands charged with • having, on the 30th December, 1887, in the barony of Maryboro', parish of Clonenagh, stolen 3 heifers, the property of Thomas Fitzpatrick, and offered samj for sale at Edenderry fair, on the 31st Decemb 1887, ( Cattle recovered):— Has a swaggering gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round tS stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age light brown hair; wore an old jerry hat, old brov coat, corduroy trowsers, and two vests; is sometimes employed sinking pumps. Description of PATRICK FOSTER, native of Lea, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of " December, 1887, in the barony of Portnahinch, parish of Lea, unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 13 and 16 years :— Wore gray side whiskers; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, thin face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair; wore a brown coat, tweed trowsers, and brown vest; is a labourer. Description of A YOUNG MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, at or about 8 p. m., 16th January, 1888, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Lower, parish of Donohill, fired three shots from a revolver at Valentine Ryan, Esq., j. r., in his house at chadville, near Cappawhite:— Full large round bullet shaped eyes, blue or gray in colour, straight nose, fair complexion, oval face, medium make, youthful, soft athletic looking, with rather square shoulders, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 18 or 20 years " f age, fair or light ftows hair, highly arched eyebrows, fair or light brown in colour, and evenly marked from end to end; regular teeth in upper jaw ; \% ra a double peaked light gray cap Ad dark clothes. Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the 14lt d^ of November, 1887, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzled the sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon :— Downcast look; resembles a horse or cattle dealer, gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 fget 8 inches high, about 55 years of age," gray hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a land steward. A Warrant for his arrest is in the foinds of the Constabulary at Caledon; £ 50 reward will be paid by Earl of Caledon for such infor- mation as willfead to his arrest. • * Aughnacloy, Nov. 19, 1887. Description of PETER FARRELLY, native of Loughaj^ town, and a MAN and WOmaN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged iwith having, on the 2nd January, 1888, ( 12 mid- day), in the barony of Moygoish, parish of Russagh, assaulted Michael Daly, process server, and robbed him of six procAses:— 1. Very large mouth, wore a slight fair moustache, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard black hat, coat, trowsers, and vest of gray tweed, much worn; is a farm labourer. 2. Sandy brown light moustache, thin side whiskers whole length of face, fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age ; wore a hard black hat, coat, trowsers, and vest, of light frieze or tweed, rather smoky. 3. Burn or small pox mark on right cheek, red complexion, stout make, about 30 years of age, red stuff loose jacket. Castlepollard, 1888. ( 85992 c.— 47470). DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, G Division. Particulars relative to GEORGE GREATRIX, English supervisee, convicted at Middlesex Sessions, on 6th December. 1880, for larceny in dwelling- house and receiving after previous conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years police supervision:— 26 yearsof age on conviction, single, is a photographer; born in Liverpool, resided before conviction at Camden road, London, where his friends reside; brown hair, gnty eyes, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, scars front of ribs, ® id right side of belly, mole on right collar bone, scar below chest J. eft side. This supervisee, on the 17th ult, reported to the Dublin Police that he was going to Belfas^ but he has not repoiHd himsjlf at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is [ unknown. ( 125 H. C.) ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustsAhe, turning grey, large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk hat, and laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gold ring on little finger. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside:— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, the 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, county Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultimo, stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has not Xrted himself at the latter place, and his present reabonts is unknown. • In the event of his arrest he should be dealt witfe under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. V. tatooed on left forearm. Supposed to be making his way to Ireland; and that he travelled from Darlington to Liverpool by rail, in female attire, on 26th December, 1887. When " Proctor" left Ayr, had with him short gray tweeff jacket; dark cloth vest; brown striped trousers, strap and pocket behind; blue sailor's jersey, and blue fatigue dress ; was in the 42ni Regiment, under name of James Paterson, deserted at Currie, Ireland, 15th May, 1885, and has not been apprehended.
