No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted* All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, » nd by the name of the person in whose hands it is. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY, Antrim. e Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 10th January, 1888, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast : ALEXANDER QUINN, 18 years of age, light hair, hazel eyes, light eyebrows, sharp nose, fresh complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, is a shoemaker, born at Market- hill. Parents reside at 87, Silvia- street. Scar on back of left hand, several small scars on back of right side, kick mark on left shin bone. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded : Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, red and black tie, nailed Bluchor boots and woollen stockings, No. 130. Quinn when previously an absconder was hired with a farmer named Blyth, of Brookhill. STAFFORD WILSON, native of Connor, and JOHN CRAIG ( mother's name Mawha), not arrested; Hue- and Cry, 18th October, 188,7. ( 84453 c 44488.) • Cork. Description of MAURICE CONNORS, native of Coolykerane, who stands charged with having, on the 25th Decftaber, 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, stabbed Timothy Shine, of Churchill, in the left side with a penknife, thereby placing his life in danger :— Drooped shoulders, long neck, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, small thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9J inches high, about 19 years of « age, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache; wore a brown solt hat, dark frock coat, dark corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer's son. Description of TIMOTHY CONNORS, native of Lacksigh, who stands charged with having, on the 20th November, 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, been one of a party of five men who, armed and disguised, entered the houses of Ellen Curtain and Miss Philpott, fired shots, and seriously assaulted one Daniel Conway, at Knocknagecha :— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of THOMAS DONOHUE ( supposed), native pjpce unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th November, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen two coats— No. 1, a top coat, dark brown cloth; No. 2, a short blueish green cloth shootiqg coat, with welted seams on sleeves; a brown tweed trowsers and a pair of shooting boots, the property of William Vokes, Manager of Lloyd's Circi^, all value for about £ 5 10s. Supposed to be wearing the clothes :— Slight squint in one eye ; hazel oyes, sharp nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of agej^ ore a sofjj^ jnerican hat, black coat, and tweed trowsers ; is a confectioner, but recently employed as a laboured, and travels with Lloyd's Circus. Description of JEREMIAH TWOHIG, native of Horsemount, who stands charged with having, on the 9th November, 1887, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Clondrohid, fired a shot at members of the Royal Irish Constabulary with intent to kill:— Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wow a gray two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. _ • Macroom, November 10,18B7. KEARSE, native of Cork, an absconding bankrupt, who stands charged with having, on the 13th of August, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of Cork, absconded, and taking with him a large sum of money belonging to his creditors:— Prominent chest, walks erect, active gait, good- looking cheek bones prominent, large thick dark moustache; wears several rings; blue or grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 40 yearAf age, brown hair ; wore a dark overcoat; is a banker. •• Cork South, Nov. 10, 1887. Description of JAMES BARRY, native of Lack- nacummeen, and DAVID CRONIN, native of Ballinacourtha, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 23rd October, 1887, in the barony of Kinaralea, parish of Clontade, indecently assaulted Catherine Henerty, aged 15 years:— 1. Swaggering gait, walks erect, hollow in back, military appearance, grey eyes, r^ ular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, fair hair, dark moustache; wore a black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and militia man. 2. Short thick neck, grey eyes, slyrt slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer, farmer's son. Description of MARTHA JANE CLARKE, native of Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Ards, parish of Bangor, stolen fr ® n her empl yer, James E. Johnston, a pair of lady's laced boots, nearly new, and value for ajjout 12 Large blue eyes, cocked nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 14 or 15 years of age, fair hair ; wore a brown hat trimmed with plush, black twilled jacket trimmed with black fur, and brown velvet dress; she accompanies her father, who is a tramp, from town to town. ( 86030 4746l< f THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, FEBRUARY 3, 1888. • Description of JOHN VERNON, afcas JOHN M'ILVERNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with haying, On 9th day of December, 1887, at Ballylenaghan, in the barony of Upper Caatlereagh, parish of Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing therefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, toe- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and £ 13, made up as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four halt sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Banking Company, Limited " stamped on back :— Has an impediment in his speech, and twists his mouth when speaking, gray oyes, regular nosojffresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer. Description of FOUR PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th October, 1887, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilmactolway, unlawfully assaulted James Sheridan ( Junior), and robbed him of sixpence :— 1. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore a moleskin trousers and vest; apparently a Labourer. 2. Dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 20 yean, of age, dark hair ; wore a faffed black coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 3. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 5 felt high, about ~ yearn of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 4. Shaved face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 35 years of age, dark turning gray hair. Lucan, 24th November, 1887. ( 85216 45? 36.) £ 100 REWARD. POISONING OP 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. • Captain H. Steeds cfrers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for above * malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals poisoned, and in the bran mashps used to convey the poison, it is desired that all stations should look up chemists, druggists, grocers, < kc., who may have sold arsenic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, . & c., and communicate with R. C. COLERIDGE, 1st D. I., R. I. C. Depot. Kildare. * Description of three tr# nps, who stand charged with having, on the 29th November, 1887, in the barony of KVcullen, parish of Kilcullen, waylaid and robbed Maurice Dillon, of Knockbounce, county Kildare, and stole from him one pale leather coloured purse fastened with one spring clasp, and which contained one shilling in silver and nine pence in coppers:— 1. Black whiskers. 2. Black whiskers. 3. Small slight make. Athy, December 1, 1887. ( 85386 c*— 46188.) JOHN WILLIAMS, tlias JOHN CHARLES, alias JOHN BERGIN, native of Plymouth, who has been committed for trial to the Winter Assizes, charged with burglary, and robbery of £ 19 7s. 10d., two bottles of whiskey, and some small articles ( which have all been recovered), the property of Mrs Anne Fennin, of Bracknagh. The accused, on the 27th October last, pawned a silver lever hunting watch, No. 26094; maker's name, John Johnes, 338 " Strand," which is supposed to have been stolen. Any information re- garding him, including previous convictions, to be addressed to tho District Inspector, Athy :— Marks of scar on left cheek, blue eyes, slightly cockyd nose, fresh complexion, rouncTface, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches hi^ h, about 27 or 28 years of ago, sandy hair; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trousers, tweed vest; small light sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers; goes by tl e name of " Foxy Jack;" served in the array; stage danfer. It is requested that anything known about this man be communicated to the Dis- trict Inspector at Athy. Athy, Nov. 25, 1887. ( 85259 c 45921.) Description of WILLIAM HOGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1887, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, stolen a coat and vest, value for £ 1, and a pair of elastic side boots much worn, value for 4s.; tho coat and vest have been found in a Pawn Office:— Cast in both eyes; regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of ago s is a Carrier, and served 12 years in tho Royal Enginoers; smart active appearance. Warrant in hands of the tuldare Police. • Kildare, November 18, 1887, ( 85107 45639.) with having, on the 2nd day of April, 1887, in the barony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted his wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, whereby they have become ' destitute and have been since in TullamOre Union Workhouse and receiving relief therein :— Three marks of small pox on right temple, round shoulders and short neck, large blue eyes, regular nose, florid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of age, dark hair; wore a light tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a maltster. A warrant in the hands of the Tullamore Royal Irish Constabulary for his arrest, and the Tullamore Guardians will defray all expenses if arrested. Tullamore,- October 26th 1887. ( 84704 c— 44916.) Limerick. Descriptions of . FRANCIS KEEFFE and MICHAEL REIDY, natives of Templeglautin, who stand charged with having, on the 16th April, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, at Abbeyfeale, committed an indecent assault on Nano McCarthy. For said offence they were returned for trial to Quarter Sessions, at Rathkeale, on 7th October, 1887, but failed to appear for trial at said Quarter Ses- sions :— 1 ^ Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin hardy face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a jerry hat, dark grey coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. 2. Grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerr^ hat, dark coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. Feigns bad health. Bench Warrants have been issued for the arrest of these two men, and the Warrants # re in the hands of the Police at Abbeyfeale. Abbeyfeale, November 22, 1887. Description of FRANCIS M'GLYNN, native of Drumlish, who stands charged with havi^; Tin the 2nd January, 1888, in the barony of Longford, aift parish of Killoe, seriously assaulted Francis Mullerry, by fracturing his skull, whereby his life is in danger:— Smart active appearance, gray eyes, regular uof> e,^ resh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair, and small dark moustache; vw> re a soft hat, light tweed coat, corduroy trousers, and light tweed vest; is a farmer's son. Description of a MAN, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th day of December 1887, in the barony of Ardee, parish of S ® a » nore, committed a rape on one Mary Malone, of Ardee : — Supposed to have the mar* of a bite on the back of on j of his hands ; pale complexion, whitish face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of » age ; wore a round black cap, frieze coat, corduroy trowaers; supposed to be a tramp. Glann East, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbiagh, stabbed Patrick M'Gowan in the neck, from the effects of which he died 27th inst. :— Speaks with an English accent, was in America, very long drooped nose, flushed long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 42 years of age, has shaved off beard, whiskers, and moustache; wore a low hat, dark coat, tweed or cord trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer. Description of JAMES KELLY ( mother's surname M'Nulty), native of Sonnagh, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of November. 1877, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbeagh, seriously as- saulted Dominick Colleran, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger:—- Blue eyes, short nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 28 years of age, light brown hair; wore a hard felt hat, dark tweed coat, trousers and vest; is a farmer. P. .- — Scars on face; blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, shaved face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 30 yes^ s of age, fair hair; wore a tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. Queen's. • Description of JOHN BREEN, ( mo^ wlj^ rname, Delany), native of Deerpark, whp st^^ jjPged with haviflg, on the 30fli December* barony of Maryboro', parish of Clonenagh, stolen 3 heifers, the property of Thomas Fitzpatrick, and offered same for sale at Edenderry fair, on the 31st December, 1887, ( Cattle recovered):— Has a swaggering gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore an old jerry hat, old brown coat, corduroy trowsers, and two vests; is sometimes employed sinking pumps. Description of PATRICK FOSTER, native of Lea, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of December, 1887, in the barony of Portnahinch, parish of Lea, unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 13 and 16 years:— Wore gray side whiskers; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, thin face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair ; wore a brown coat, tweed trowsers. and brown vest; is a labourer. Description of A YOUNG MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 16th January, 1888, at 8 p. m., ii^ tlie barony of Kilnamanagh Lower, parish of Donohill, fired three revolver shots at Valentine Ryan, Esq., j. p., in his house at Chadville:— Shoulders rather square, long arched light eyebrows, teeth good and regular, fingers long and straight; very large projecting blue eyes, straightenose, fair com- pletion, oval face, rather slight make but athletic, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 18 or 20 years of age, wore a double peaked gray tweed cap, light gray coat, trowsers and vest. Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the • l4tl » day of november, 1887, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzled the sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon :— Downcast look; resembles a horse or cattle dealer, ^ ray » eyes, lonjj nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 55. years of age, gray hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and v< pt; is a land steward. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Constabulary at Caledon ; £ 50 reward will be paid by Earl of Caledon for si^ h infor- mation as will lead to his arrest. Aughnacloy, Nov. 19, 1887. Description of PETER FARRELLY, native of Loughan- town, and a MAN and WOMAN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1888, ( 12 mid- day), in the " arony of Moygoish, parish of Russagh, assaulted Michael Daly, process server, and robbed him of six processes:— 1. Very large mouth, wore a slight fair moustache, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore. a hard black hat, coat, trowsers, and vest of gray tweed, much worn ; is a farm labourer. 2. Sandy brown light moustache, thin side whiskers whole length of face, fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age ; wore a hard black hat, coat, trowsers, and vest, of light frieze or tweed, rather smoky. 3. Burn or small- pox mark on right cheek, red complexion, stout make, about 30 years of age, red stuff loose jacket. Castlepollard, 1888. - ( 85992 c.— 47470). DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, g Division. Particulars relative to GEORGE GREATRIX, English supervisee, convicted at Middlesex Sessions, on 6th December 1880, for larceny in dwelling- house and receiving after previous conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years police supervision :— 26 years of age- on eenviction single, is a photographer; born in Liverpool^ resided before ^ unviction at Camden road, London, where " his friends reside; blown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, scars of ribs, and right side of belly, mole on right bone, scar below chest left side. • T ® s supervisee, on tho 17th ult., reported to the Dublin Police that he was going to Belfast, but he has not reported himself a# the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 ye^ rs old, 5 Lfeet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, aSHjing grey, large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk hat, and laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gold ring on little finger. Particularsrelativeto Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside :— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, largo nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, tho 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, county Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultimo, stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ^ In the event of his arrest « he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vi<^, cap. 112. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison on licence, the 18th June, 1887. V tatooed on left forearm. Supposed to be making his way to Ireland ; and that he travelled from Darlington to Liverpool by rail, in female attire, on^ Sth December, 1887. The person described below is wanted here on a Sheriff's warrant, charged with cattle stealing in this county, on 15th July, 1886. He fled to America at that time, has since returned, enlisted at Edinburgh on 9th October last, in the Scots Fusiliers, joined the Regiment at Ayr, got seven days leave of absence on 21st November, and has failed to rejoin. Was wearing a medal, which he said he got from the Canadian Government for taking part in suppressing the Reil rebellion:— JOHN PROCTOR, nativ^ of Udny, Aberdeenshire, 24 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 8^ inches high, without shoes, brown hair, fresh complexion, blue eyes, full f ace, heavy brows, cut mark on brow, slight brown moustache, stout make. Speaks with English accent; says has sailed as a Ship's Steward ; has neen several times in the army ; mother's name " Emslie." When " Proctor" left Ayr, had with bim short gray tweed jacket; dark cloth vest; brown striped trousers, strap and pocket behind ; blue sailor's jersey, and blue fatigue dress ; was in the 42nd Regiment, under name of James Paterson, deserted at Currie, Ireland, 15th May, 1885, and has not been apprehended. * Please cause particular enquiry to be made for this man, ^ specially at Recruiting Stations and Military Depots, as it is believed he will re- enlist. Stopford, Esq., which was stolen from his stable at Roebuck, parish of Taney, barony of Rathdown, between 7 p. m. 16th and 7 a. m. 17th January, 1888 :— Black gelding colt, 3 years off, about 14 hands high, with long tail, very rough coat, small whit « star in forehead, strongly built, had been shod but the shoes had fallen off the fore feet, value about £ 20. Will probably be clipped, fully shod, and his tail docked to avoid detection. Constabulary requested to search fairs, and be on look ot^ for horses recently bought, procured, or put under training.
