TIOHTI All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Ory are to he'transmitted under cover, addressed to the Ihspector- Geheral, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No- Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. * • Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of jwrsons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompaiged by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, • nd by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this naturofiunless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. • * • Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requester] be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Du^ in Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fcc., and of any circumstances^ enuering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on tho 10th January, 1888, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast :— ALEXANDER QUINN, 18 years « f age, light hair, hazel eyes, light eyebrows, sharp nose, fresh1 complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, is a shoemaker, born at Market- hill. Parents reside at 87, Silvia- street. Scar on back of left hand, several small scars on back of right side, kick mark on left shin bone. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded :— Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, red and black tie, nailed Blucher boots and woollen stockings, No. 130. Quinn when previously an absconder was hired with • a farmer named Blyth, of Brookhill. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 127 n. c.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 8th November, 1887, absconded from the Malone R(^ o* iatory School at Belfast;— JAmES CLARKE, 469, 14 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, saddle nose, round visage. Formerly belonged to Belfast; his parents reside at 121, Lemon's- row, Belfast. Cut mark on forehead iftove nose. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of :— Glengarry cap, moleskin . trcwsers, vest, end The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest .^ stice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capt^- e him with £ 1. ( 122 H. C.) STAFFORD WILSON, native of Connor, and JOHN CRAIG ( mother's name Mawha), not arrested; Hue- and Cry, Kth October, 1887. ( 84453 44488.) • Cork. Descripton of MAURICE CONNORS, native of Coolykerane, who stands ^ rnrged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, stabbed Timothy Shine, of Churchill, infhe left side with a penknife, thereby placing his life in danger :— Drooped shoulders, long neck, gray eyes, regular nose, tre.< m complexion, small thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9J inches high, about 19 years of age, fiir hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache; wore a brown solt hat, dark frock coat, dark corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer's son. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 8tli November, 1887, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— JOHN KELSO, 509, 15 years of age, brown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, sharp nose, oval visatre, m. diuiu make, 4 feet 11 inches high. Formerly Jselwvged'to Belfast; his parents reside at Cabul- street, Belfast. Small mole on left shoulder. # The school dress, all with the Reformatory stamp, consists of:— Glengarry cap, moleskin trowsers, vest, and tunic, nailed Blucher boots, No. 95. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 122 H. C.) Description of THOMAS DONOHUE ( supposed), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th November, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen two coats— No. 1, • top coat, dark br^ wn cloth; No. 2, a short blueish green cloth shooting coat, with welted seams on sleeves; a bro^ n tweed trowsers and a pair of shooting boots, the property of William Vokes, Manager of Lloyd's Circus, all value for about ^ 5 10i.- Supposed to be wearing the clothes :— Slight squint in one eye ; hazel eyes, sharp nj^ e, fresh complexion, thin face, medium n ® ke, 5 feet <> inches high, about 50 years of age ; wore a soft American ha, black coat, and tweed^ trowsers ; Description of TIMOTHY CONNORS, native of Laeksigh, who stands charged with having, on the 20th November, 1887, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, been one of a party of five men who, armed and disg lised, entered the houses of Ellen Curtain and Miss Philpott, fired shots, and seriously assaulted one Daniel Conway, at Knocknageeha:— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Kanturk, Dec. 20, 1887. ( 85231 c.— 46916.) is a confectioner, but recently employed as a labourer, and travels with Lloyd's Circus. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Blackrock. Cork South, Nov. 18, 1887. ( 85106 c.— 45638.) Description of JEREMIAH TWOHIG, native of Horsemount, who stands charged with having, on the 9th November, 1887, in tho barony of West Muskerry, parish of Clondrohid, fired a shot at members of the Royal Irish Constabulary with intent to kill:— Smart ae. tive appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a gray two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. Macroom, November 10,1887. ( 84967 c— 45381.) Description of WILLIAM J. KEARSE, native of Cork, an absconding bankrupt, who stands charged with having, on the 13th of August, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of Cork, absconded, and taking with him a large sum of money belonging to his creditors :— Prominent chest, walks erect, active gait, good- looking, cheek bones prominent, large thick dark moustache; wears several rings; blue or grey eyes, regular nose, fresh completion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, brown hair ; wore a dark overcoat; is a banker. Description of JAMES BARRY, native of Lack- nacummeen, and DAVID CRONIN, native of Ballinacourtha, who stand charged with having, on # the night of the 23rd October, 1887, in the barony of Kinaralea, parish of Clontade, indecently assaulted Catherine Henerty, aged 15 years :— 1. Swaggering gait, walks erect, hollow in back, military appearance, grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, fair j^ air, dark moustache 5 wore a black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and militia man. 2. Short thick neck, grey eyes, short slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 17 or 18 years ortlge, dark hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer, farmer's son, Kinsale October 29 1887. Down. * Description of MARTHA JANE CLARKE, native of Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1888, in the barony of Lower Ards, parish of Bangor, stolen from her empl yer, James E. Johnston, a pair of lady's laced boots, nearly new, and value for about 12s.— Large blue e^ s, cocked nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 14 or 15 fears of age, fair hair ; wore a brown hat trimmed with plnsh, black twilled jacket trimmed with black fur, and Mown velvet dress ; she accompanies her father, who is a tramp, from town to town. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, FEBRUARY 3, 1888. • Description of JOHN VERNON, alias JOHN M'ILVERNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of December, 887, at Ballylenaghan, in the barony of Upper Castlereagh, parish or Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing therefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, toe- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and £ 13, made up as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four half sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Banking Company, Limited " stamped on back:— Has an impediment in his speech, and twists his mouth when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, rounl face, stout make, 5 feet Jor 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer. May probably be wearing the stolen boots. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Newtownbreda. Newtownards, Dec. 13,1887. ( 85586 c 46598.) Dublin. Description of FOUR PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th October, 1887, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilmactolway, unlawfully assaulted James Sheridan ( Junior), and robbed him of sixpence:— 1. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore a moleskin trousers and vest; apparently a Labourer. 2. Dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 20 year., of age, dark hair ; wore ® fa led black coat, trousers, and • est; apparently a Labourer. 3. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; w^- e a dark tweed coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a. Labourer. 4. Shaved faco, stout make, 5 feet high, about 35 years of age, dark turning gray hair. Lucan, 24th November, 1887. ( 85216 45? 36.) £ 100 REWARD. POISONING OF 18 F^ JNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. Captain H. Steeds offers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for above malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals poisoned, and in the bran mashes used to convey the poison, it is desired that all stations should look up chemists, druggists, grocers, < fcc., who may have sold arsenic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, & c., and communicate with R. C. COLERIDGE, 1st D. I., R. I. C. Depot. Kildare. Description of three tramps, who stand charged with having, on the 29th November, 1887, in the barony of Kilcullen, parish of Kilcullen, waylaid and robbed Maurice Dillon, of Knockbounce, county Kildare, and stole from him one pale leather coloured purse fastened with one spring clasp, and which contained one shilling in silver and niiffi pence in coppers:— 1. Black whiskers. * 2. Black whiskey 3. Small slight make. Athy, December 1, 1887. ( 85386 c— 46188.) JOHN WILLIAMS, alias JOHN CHARLES, alias JOHN BERGIN, native of Plymouth, who has* been committed for trial to the Winter Assizes, charged with burglary, and robbery of £ 19 7s. 10d., two bottles of whiskey, and some small articles ( which have all been recovered), the property of Mrs Anne Fennin, of Bracknagh. The accused, on the 27th October last, pawned • silver lever hunting watch, No. 26094 ; makers name, John Johnes, 338 " Strand," which is supposed to have been stolen. Any information re- garding him, including previous convictions, to be addressed to the District Inspector, Athy :— Marks of scar on lclt cheek, blue eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trousers, tweed vest; small light sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers; goes by tl e name of " Foxy Jack;" served in the army; stage dancer. It is requested that anything known about this man be communicated to the Dj^- trict Inspector at A'hy. Athy, Nov. 25, 1887. ( 85259 c.— 45921.) in the Royal Engineers; smart active appearance. Warrant in hands of the Kildare Police. Kildare, November 18, 1887, ( 85107 c.— 45639.) Description 0T WILLIAM HOGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1887, in the baronv of East Offaly, parish of Bally sax, stolen a coat and vest, value for £ 1, and a pair of elastic side boots much worn, value for 4s.; the coat and vest have been found in a Pawn Office: Cast in both eyes; regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of age; is a Carpenter, and served 12 years King's. • Description of PATRICK CRAIG, native of Rathdowney, Queen's county, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of April, 1887, in the lArony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted his wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, whereby they have become destitute and have been since in Tullamore Union Workhouse and receiving relief therein :— Three marks of small pox on right temple, rouud shoulders and short neck, large blue eyes, regular nose, florid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of age, dark hair; wore a light tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a maltster. A warrant in the hands of the Tullamore Royal Irish Constabulary for his arrest, and the Tullamore Guardians will defray all expenses if arrested. Tullamore, October 26th 1887. ( 84704 c.— 44916.) Limerick. Descriptions of FRANCIS KEEFFE and mICHAEL REIDY, natives of Templeglautin, who stand charged with having, on the 16th April, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, at Abbeyfeale, committed an indecent assault on Nano McCarthy. For said offence they were return^ for trial to Quarter Sessions, at Rathkeale, on 7th October, 1887, but failed to appear for trial at said Quarter Se# sions:— 1. Dark eyes, regular nose^ dark complexion, thin hardy face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair : wore a jerry hat, dRrk grey coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. • 2. Grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jaxy hat, dark coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer.* deigns bad health. * Bench Warrants have been issued for the arrest o f these two men, and the Warrants are in the hands of the Police at Abbeyfeale. • Abbeyfeale, November 22, 1887. Description of a MAN, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th day of December, 1887, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Smarm< » e, committed a rape on one Mary Malone, of Ardee: — Supposed to have the mark of a bite on the back of one of his hands ; pale complexion, whitish face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age ; wore a round black cap, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers; supposed to be a tramp. Description of DOMINICK GALLAGHER, native of Glann East, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbiagh, stabbed Patrick M'Gowan in the neck, from the effects of which he died on 27th inst. :— Speaks with an English accent, was in America, very long drooped nose, flushed long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 42 years of age, has shaved off beard, whiskers, and moustache; wore a low hat, dark coat, tweed or cord trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer. Description of JAMES KELLY ( mother's surname M'Nulty), native of Sonnagh, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of November. 1877, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbeagh, seriously as- saulted Dominick Colleran, by striking him on tly head with a stone, thereby placin^ iis life in danger:— Blue eyes, short nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 2S years of age, light brown hair ^ wore a hard felt hat, dark tweed coat, trousers ana vest; is a farmer. Description of JOHN BREEN, ( mother's surname, Delany), native of Deerpark, who stands charged with having, on the 30th December, 1887, in the barony of Maryboro', parish of Clonenagh, stolen 3 heifers, the property of Thomas Fitzpatrick, and offered same for sale at Edenderry fair, on the 31st December, 1887, ( Cattle recovered):— Has a swaggering gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore an old jerry hat, old brown coat, corduroy trowsers, and two vests; is sometimes employed sinking pumps. Tyrone. • ^ Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of November, 1887, in the barony of Lower gungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzled e sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon:— Downcast look; resembles a horse or cattle dealer, gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium rrtake, 5 feet 8 inches higl^ about 55 years of age, gray hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a land steward. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Constabulary at Caledon; £ 50 reward wifl be paid by Earl of Caledon for such infor- mation as will lead to his arrest. • Aughnacloy, Nov. 19, 1887. Westmeath. • © escription of PETER FARRELLY, native of Loughan » town, and MAN and WOMAN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1888, ( 12 mid- day), in the barony of Moygoish, parish Russagh, assaulted Michael Daly, process server, and robbed him of six processes:— 1. Very large mouth, wore a slight fair moustache, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, oval face, stout make, « 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard black hat, coat, trowsers, and vest of gray tweed, much worn; is a farm labourer. 2. Sandy brown light moustache, thin side whiskers whole length of face, fair complexion, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age ; wore a hard black hat, coat, trowsers, and vest, of light frieze or tweed, rather smoky. 3. Burn or small- pox mark on right cheek, red complexion, stout make, about 30 years of age, red stuff loose jacket. Castlepollard, 1888. ( 85992 c.— 47470). DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, G Division. Particulars relative to GEORGE GREATRIX, English supervisee, convicted at Middlesex Sessions, on 6th December. 1880, for larceny in dwelling- house and receiving wfter previous conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years polioe supervision :— 26 years of age on conviction, single, is a photographer; born in Liverpool, resided before conviction at Camden road, London, where h{ s. friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, ovaT^-^ visage, Jlout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, scars front of ribs, and right side of belly, mols on right collar bone, scar below chest left side. This supervisee, on the 17th ult., reported to the Dublin Police that he was going to Belfast, but he has not reported himself # the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ( 125 H. C.) ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey, large features, sallow compl^ ion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, s^ lk hat, and laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gftd ring on little finger. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent Superintendent's Office, G. Division, December 1, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, / esided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside:— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. I This man was released on licence from Maryboro ' Prison, the 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, county Galway.
