All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an ofieude of this nature unless they have the Wan- ant in their possession when making the arrest. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without thia Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < kc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. Antrim, Description of STAFFORD WILSON, native of Connor, and JOHN CRAIG ( mother's name Mawha), native of Ferniskey, who stand charged with having, on the 11th October, 1887, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Connor, unlawfully assaulted Jane Hyndman, and maliciously broke the shop window of Joseph Hyndman, of Kells s— 1. May have a fresh wound on forehead, dark eyes, l » ng nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; wore a low black bat, dark coat, black trowsers, and dark vest; is a farm labourer, and has been employed in Govan, Scotland, in a timber yard. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 31 years of age, dark hair ; wore a tweed cap ( light colour), dark coat, trowsers, and vest; was in the R. I. Description of TIMOTHY CONNORS, native of Lacksigh, who stands charged with having, on the 20th November, 1887, in tho barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, been one of a party ot five men who, armed and disguised, entered the houses of Ellen Curtain and Miss Philpott, fired shots, and seriously assaulted one Daniel Conway, at Knocknageeha :— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, abdht 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Kanturk, Dec. 20, 1887. ( 85231 c.— 46916.) ^ Description of THOMAS DONOHUE ( supposed), jjfliK place unknown, who stands charged with ^ Pg, on the 7th November, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen two coats— No. 1, a top coat, dark brown cloth; No. 2, a short blueish green cloth shooting coat, with welted seams on sleeves; a brown tweed trowsers and a pair of shooting boots, the property of William vokes, Manager of Lloyd's Circus, all value for about £ 5 10s. Supposed to be wearing the clothes :— Slight squint in one eye ; hazel oyes, sharp nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age ; wore a soft American hat, bkok caat. and tvwed isr a ns a labourer, and travels with Lloyd's Circus. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Blackrock. Cork South, Nov. 18, 1887. ( 85106 c.— 45638.) Description of JEREMIAH TWOHIG, native of Horsemount, who stands charged with having, on the 9th November, 1887, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Clondrohid, fired a shot at members of the Royal Irish Constabulary with intent to kill:— Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a gray two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. Macroom, November 10, 1887. ( 84967 c 45381.) Description of WILLIAM J. KEARSE, native of Cork, an absconding bankrupt, who stands charged with having, on the 13th of August. 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of Cork, absconded, and taking with him a large sum of money belonging to his creditors :— Prominent chest, walks erect, active gait, good- looking, cheek bones prominent, large thick dark moustache; wears several rings; blue or grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, brown hair ; wore a dark overcoat; is a banker. Description of JAMES BARRY, native ofLack- nacummeen, and DAVID CRONIN, native of Ballinacourtlia, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 23rd October, 1887, in the barony of Kinaralea, parish of Clontade, indecently assaulted Catherine Henerty, aged 15 years :— 1. Swaggering gait, walks erect, hollow in back, military appearance, grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, fair hair, dark moustache; wore a black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and militia man. 2. Short thick neck, grey eyes, short slightly cocked nose, Iresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer, farmer's son. Description of JOHN VERNON, alias JOHN M'ILVERNON, native of Ballydavy, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of December, 1887, at Ballylenaghan, in the barony of Upper Castlereagh, parish of Knockbreda, unlawfully and feloniously broken and entered the dwelling- house of John Martin, and stealing therefrom one silver Geneva watch, with imitation gold chain attached; one pair of men's laced boots, with hooks at top, toe- capped; a meerschaum pipe, and £\ 3, made up as follows:— One five pound note, four one pound notes, two sovereigns, and four half sovereigns. Some of the one pound notes had the words " Belfast Banking Company, Limited" stamped on back :— Has an impediment in his . speech, and twists his mouth when speaking, gra make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of agd, dark red hair; wore a cap, old brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farm labourer.*. May probably be wearing the stolen boots. Warrant' in. the hands of the Constabulary at Newtownbreda. Newtownards, Dec. 13, 1887. ( 85586 c.— 46598.) ' DANIEL M'CARTHY, Cry, 18th October, 1887. not arrested ; Hue and- ( 84454 c 44489.) Dublin. Description of EDWARD EAGNEY, native of Queen's County, but has friends at Moate, county Westmeath, who stands charged with liaung, on the 23rd December, 1887, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Taney, escaped from the Central Criminal Asylum, where he was undergoing penal servitude for killing a Nun:— Beard had been clipped, walks a little lame, blue eyes ( sunken), large nose, pale complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair; wore a striped frieze trowsers and vest, with red stripe down outside of trowsers ; was a tailor while in the asylum, formerly a pedlar. Dundrum, Dec. 24, 1887. ( 85761 c.— 46974.) Description of FOUR PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 30th October, 1887, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilmactolway, unlawfully assaulted James Sheridan ( Junior), and robbed him of sixpence :— 1. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore a moleskin trousers and vest; apparently a Labourer. 2. Dark complexion, 6 feet high, about 20 yeai^ of age, dark hair ; wore a faded black coat, trouserr and vest; apparently a Labourer. 3. Sandy complexion, shaved face, 5 feet high, about 40 years of ago, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trousers, and vest; apparently a Labourer. 4. Shaved face, stout mak •, 5 feet high, about 35 years ol age, dark turning gray hair. Lucan, 24th November, 1887. ( 85216 45f36.) £ 100 REWARD. POISONING OF 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. Captain H. Steeds offers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for above malicious act. Dracrifrtloto of PATRICK WARD ( PADDY), native ^ of Portumna, who stands charged with having, on the 1st of November, 1887, in the barony of Clonmacnoon, parish of. Clontuskert, feloniously robbed one Michael White of his pipe and some tobacco-:— Scars on left side of head 5 smart, active appearance ; shaves all his face ; grey or blue eyes; regular nose, fair complexion, thin, hardy face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a grey tweed coat, tweed trousers and vest; is a Poacher. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the District- Inspector at Ballinasloe. Ballinasloe, November 22,1887. ( 85180c.— 45771.) stand'charged with having, on the 16th April, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, at Abbeyfeale, committed an indecent assault on Nano McCarthy. For said offence they were returned for trial to Quarter Sessions, at Rathkeale, on 7th October, 1887, but failed to appear for trial at said Quarter Ses- sions :— 1. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin hardy face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a jerry hat, dark grey coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. 2. Grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark coat, trousers, and vest; is a Labourer. Feigns bad health. Bench Warrants have been issued for the arrest o f these two men, and the Warrants are in the hands of the Police at Abbeyfeale. Abbeyfeale, November 22, 1887. ( 85179 c 45770.) Kildare. Description of three tramps, who stand charged with having, on the 29th November, 1887, in the barony of Kilcullen, parish of Kilcullen, waylaid and robbed Maurice Dillon, of Knockbounce, county Kildare, and stole from him one pale leather coloured purse fastened with one spring clasp, and which contained one shilling in silver and nine pence in coppers:— 1. Black whiskers. 2. Black whiskers. 3. Small slight make. Athy, December 1, 1887. ( 85386 c 46188.) JOHN WILLIAMS, alias JOHN CHARLES, alias JOHN BERGIN, native of Plymouth, who has been committed for trial to the Winter Assizes, charged with burglary, and robbary of £ 19 7s. 10d., two bottles of whiskey, and some small articles ( which have all been recovered), the property of Mrs Anne Fennin, of Bracknagh. The accused, on the 27th October last, pawned a silver lever hunting watch, No. 26094 ; maker's name, John Johnes, 338 " Strand," which is supposed M have beon stolen. Any information re- garding him, including previous convictions, to be addressed to the District Inspector, Athy :— Marks of scar on left cheek, blue eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresli complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trousers, tweed vest; small light sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers ; goes by the name of " Foxy Jack;" served in the army; stage dancer. It is requested that anything known about this man be communicated to the Dis- trict Inspector at Athy. Athy, Nov. 25, 1887. ( 85259 C.— 45921.) Description of WILLIAM HOGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1887, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Bally sax, stolen a coat and vest, value for £ 1, and a pair of clastic side boots much worn, value for 4s.; the coat and vest have been found in a Pawn Office:— Cast in both eyes; regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of age; is a Carpenter, and served 12 years in the Royal Engineers; smart active appearance. Warrant in hands of the Kildare Police. Kildare, November 18, 1887, ( 85107 c 45639.) King's. Description of PATRICK CRAIG, native of Rathdowney, Queen's county, who stands charged witli having, on the 2nd day of \ pril, 1887, in the barony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted Ids wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, whereby they have become destitute and have been since in Tullamore Union Workhouse and receiving relief therein :— Three marks of small pox 011 right temple, round shoulders and short neck, largo blue eyes, regular nose, florid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of age, dark hair; wore a light tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a maltster. A warrant in the hands of the Tullamore Roval Irish Constabulary for his arrest, and the tullamore Guardians will defray all expenses if arrested Tullamore, October 26th 1887. Descriptions of FRANCIS KEEFFE and MICHAEL REIDY, natives of Templeglautin, who Description of WILLIAM MURPHY ( Sen.) native of Appletown, county Limerick, who stands charged with having on the 26th day of October, 1887, in the Barony of Glenquin, parish of Mahoonagh, seriously assaulted William Murphy ( Junior), by striking him a blow on the head with a loaded butt from the effects of which his life is in danger :— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, brown hair, wore a round hard hat, brown tweed coat, cord trowsers, and tweed vest; wore all his beard which is sandy except chin shaved; is a farmer. Description of a MAN, name unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th day of December, 18H7, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Smarmore, committed a rape on one Mary Malone, of Ardee: — Supposed to have the mark of a bite on the back of one of his hands ; pale complexion, whitish face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age ; wore a round black cap, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers ; supposed to be a tramp. Description of DOMINICK GALLAGHER, native of Glann East, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1887, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilbiagh, stabbed Patrick M'Gowan in the neck, from the effects of which he died on 27th inst. :— Speaks with an English accent, was in America, very long drooped nose, flushed long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 42 years of age ; wore a low hat, dark coat, tweed or cord trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer. Description of JAMES KELLY ( mother's surname M'Nulty), native of Sonnagh, who stands charged with hiving, on the 25th day of November. 1877, in the barony of Costello, oarish of Kilbeagh, seriously as- saulted Dominick Colleran, by striking him on the he id with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger :— Blue eyes, short nose,, fre- h completion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 28 years of age, light brown hair; wore a hard felt hat, dark tvveed coat, trousers and vest; is a farmer. Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native | of England, who stands charged • with having, on the 14th day of November, 1887, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzl^ ftfe the sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon Downcast look; resembles a horse or cattle dealer^^^" gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 55 years of age, gray hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a land steward. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Constabulary at Caledon; £ 50 reward will be paid by Earl of Caledon for such infor- mation as will lead to his arrest. Aughnacloy, Nov. 19, 1887. Description of PATRICK M'ALEER, native ot Dromore, who stands charged with having, on the night of 21st or morning of 22nd September, 1887, in the barony of Strabane Lower, parish of Ardstraw, stolen a heifer, value for £ 11, the property of His Grace the Duke of Abercorn. The prisoner was arrested on the 22nd September, and was awaiting his trial on the 20th inst., in Omagh Gaol, from which he escaped this morning:— Good looking, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 17 years of age, light brown hair; wore prison uniform, except cap and boots. FITT, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th September, 1887. ( 83804 c— 43461.) Westmeath. TWO MEN, charged with beating and threatening Michael Hindes, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 27th Sep- tember, 1887. ( 84018 c.— 43813.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, 6 Division. Particulars relative to Convict JAMES BENSON, A 767, convicted at Belfast, county Antrim, at the Recorder's Court, on 25th September, 1883, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years police supervision:— 38 years of age on convic- tion, married, is a shoemaker ; born in Lisburn, resided before conviction in Belfast, where his friends reside; brown hair, turning gray, gray eyes, dark brown eye- brows, large nose, small mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on licence, 31st August, 1887, and went to Belfast. On the 3rd November, 1887, he left for Manchester, and on the 9th of same month he reported to the Police that he was returning to Belfast, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under Section 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 45 H. C.) Description of JOHN D. ELLIOTT, wanted here on Warrant for embezzlement:— About 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey, large features, sallow complexion, large nose, hazel eyes; dressed in blue serge suit, grey Chesterfield overcoat, silk hat, and laced boots, and generally wears eye- glasses, and a gold ring on little finger. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G. Division, December 1, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where hjs friends reside :— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows,, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. He left Headford, the 6th ultimo, stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present tf^ BKcabotits is unknown. the event of his arrest he should be dealt with Under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 109 H. c.) Particulars relative to Convict MARY GABRIEL, B 119, convicted at Waterford, at the Quarter Sessions, on 23rd January, 1884, for larceny, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 31 years of age on conviction, married, is a prostitute, prison trade, laundress; born in Waterford, resided before con- viction in Waterford, where her friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, long visage, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison on licence, the 18th June, 1887. She recently left her residence 17, Ardee- street, Dublin, without reporting same to the Police, and her present where- abouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. October 20, 1887. Convict PATRICK MORRISSY, A 676, not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th September, 1887. Convict THOMAS HAYDEN, A 710, not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd August, 1887. Description of JAMES GILLMAN, who stands charged with having uttered a forged bill of ex- change :— About 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair,' whiskers and moustache; respectably dressed. Wanted for obtaining £ 10 and £ 8 on the 21st October, 1887, by means of two fictitious cheques, drawn on Messrs. Bay water, Tanqueray and Co's. Bank, 79, Queen Victoria- street, London, drawn by George Barratt, payable to and endorsed James Hall:— Major JAMES HALL, Royal Artillery ( false). Age 45 to 50, height 5ft. 6 to 8in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache ( very heavy) dark, dressed dark suit, grey broken check Ulster with cape, brown hard felt hat, wore one massive gold ring on finger of right hand, has several other cheques in his possession on the same Bank, which he will no doubt endeavour to pass. He adopts the following plan:— Obtains respectable lodgings, ascertains the names of lodging housekeepers, tradespeople, he then informs these tradespeople that he is lodging with Mr. So- and- so, by making such false representations gets his cheques cas hed. The above Reward will be paid by W. S. CANTRELL, Esq., J. P., Windsor, for the apprehension and conviction of the person who obtained the above - mentioned amounts. The person described below is wanted here on a Sheriff's warrant, charged with caltl* b aling in this county, on 15th July, 1886. He fled to America at that time, has since returned, enlisted at Edinburgh on 9th October last, in the Scots Fusiliers, joined the Regiment at Ayr, got seven days leave of absence on 21st November, and has failed to rejoin. Regimental name and number, WILLIAM DEENRY, 2177. Was wearing a medal, which he said he got from the Canadian Government for taking part in suppressing the Reil rebellion :— JOHN PROCTOR, native of Udny, Aberdeenshire, 24 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 8| inches high, without shoes, brown hair, fresh complexion, blue eyes, full t ace, heavy brows, cut mark on brow, slight brown moustache, stout make. Speaks with English accent; says has sailed as a Ship's Steward ; has een several times in the army ; mother's name " Emslie." When " Proctor" left Ayr, had with him short gray tweed jacket; dark cloth vest; bro vn striped trousers, strap and po ket behind ; blue sailor's jersey, and blue fatigue dress ; was in the 42nd Regiment, under name of James Paterson, deserted at Currie, Ireland, loth May, 1885, and has not been apprehended. Please cause particular enquiry to be made for this man, especially at Recruiting Stations and Military Depots, as it is believed he will re- enlist If found, apprehend and wire me, when he will be sent lor. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a Grocer and Spirit Dealer's shop here, between the night of Tuesday, the 21st and the morning of Wednesday, the 22nd December, 1887, about £ 60, nearly all in single £ 1 notes of different banks :— Strongly suspected, THOMAS BROWN, a labourer, of no fixed residence, from 22 to 26 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches in height, dark brown hair, round pale face and fresh complexion, clean shaved, and has an impediment in his speech, the figure of a woman tatooed on one arm and that of a sailor on the other. Dressed in a flesher's dark cloth cap, dark cord coat, and brown checked tweed trowsers and vest, boots nearly new, navy blue muffler, with narrow yellow gold stripes, and wore a silver Albert. BROWN, who is already wanted here for theft, was in the town on Tuesday, the 21st, and paid for his bed in a common lodging- house, but did not occupy the bed that night. A man answering his description in dress and appearance was seen hanging about the shop on the night of the theft, and on the following day was in Glasgow, accompanied by another man less in size, and dressed in dark clothes and hojking- down cap, trying to get gold for a large roll of notes that he had wrapped up in a piece of newspaper. It is said that he has been convicted in the army, and a deserter from two or three regiments, and will, in all likelihood try to enlist again when the stolen money is done. Brown's father is a chimney sweeper, aud, when younger, he used to travel with his father as a sweep. Police Officers and Recruiting sergeants are re- quested to make particular inquiries, for'this man, with a view to have him apprehended, or,- if any trace of him be got, to communicate with the " Subscriber with- out delay.
