All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Ory are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. i Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Antrim. • Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 9th November, 1887, ai Templepatrick, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, stolen a watch, the property of Samuel Young, of Temple- patrick, value for about £ 1:— Walks with a halt; long sharp nose, fair complexion, very slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a low hard hat, black worsted coat, dark trowsers, and vest. Stated he was a traveller for an oil cake firm. When pawning the watch in Antrim this man gave his name as " Brooks." Warrant in hands of the District Inspector at Antrim. Antrim, Nov. 15, 1887. Description of STAFFORD WILSON, native of Connor, and JOHN CRAIG ( mother's name Mawha), native of Ferniskey, who stand charged with having, on the 11th October, 1887, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Connor, unlawfully assaulted Jane Hyndman, and maliciously broke the shop window of Joseph Hyndman, of Kells s— 1. May have a fresh wound on forehead, dark eyes, long nose, dark complexio'n, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; woro a low black hat, dark coat, black- trowsers, and dark vest; is a farm labourer, and has been employed in Govan, Scotland, in a timber yard. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 31 years of age, dark hair ; wore a tweed cap ( light colour), dark coat, trowsers, and vest; was in the R. I. C. and in the army, f discharged from both, is a farmer's son. Warrants for their arrest in the hands of the Police at Connor. Antrim, October 14, 1887. ( 34453 c 44488.) Cork. Description of THOMAS DONOHUE ( supposed), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th November, 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen two coats— No. 1, a top coat, dark brown cloth; No. 2, a short blueish green cloth shooting coat, with welted seams on sleeves; a brown tweed trowsers and a pair of shooting boots, the property of William Vokes, Manager of Lloyd's Circus, all value for about £ 5 10F. Supposed to be wearing the clothes :— Slight squint in one eye ; hazel eyes, sharp nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age ; wore a solt American hat, black coat, and tweed trowsers; is a confectioner, but recently employed as a labourer, and travels with Lloyd's Circus. Warrant in the hands of the Constabulary at Blackrock. Cork South, Nov. 18, 1887. ( 85106 c.— 45638.) Description of JEREMIAH TWOHIG, native of Horsemount, who stands charged with having, on the 9th November, 1887, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Clondrohid, fired a shot at members of the Royal Irish Constabulary with intent to kill:— Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a gray two- peaked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. Macroom, November 10, 1887. ( 84967 c 45381.) Description of WILLIAM J. KEARSE, native of Cork, an absconding bankrupt, who stands charged with having, on the 13th of August 1887, in the barony of Cork, parish of Cork, absconded, and taking with him a large sum of money belonging to his creditors :— Prominent chest, walks erect, active gait, good- looking, cheek bones prominent, large thick dark moustache; wears several rings; blue or grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, brown hair ; wore a dark overcoat; is a banker. Description of JAMES BARRY, native of Lack nacummeen, and DAVID CRONIN, native of Ballinacourtha, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 23rd October, 1887, in the barony of Kinaralea, parish of Clontade, indecently assaulted Catherine Henerty, aged 15 years:— 1. Swaggering gait, walks erect, hollow in back, military appearance, grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, fair hair, dark moustache; wore a black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and militia man. 2. Short thick neck, grey eyes, short slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer, farmer's son. Description of DANIEL M'CARTHY, native of Mallow, who stands charged with having, on or about the 7th October, 1887, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Mallow, feloniously embezzled the sum of £ 71 16A 9d„ or thereabouts, the property of the Town Commissioners of Mallow: — Down- looking appearance, short neck, dark sunken eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 36 years of age j wore a hard black hat, black coat, trowsers, and vest; is a rate collector. Mallow, October 14, 1887. ( 84454 c— 44489.) Dublin. £ 100 REWARD. POISONING OF 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA,. COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. Captain H. Steeds Offers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for above malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals poisoned, and in the bran mashes used to convey the poison, it is desired that all stations should look up chemists, druggists, grocers, & c., who may have sold arsanic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, & c., and communicate with R. C. COLERIDGE, IstD. I., R. I. C. Depot. Kildare. Description of WILLIAM HOGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1887, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Bally sax, stolen a coat and vest, value for £ 1, and a pair of elastic side boots much worn, value for 4s.; the coat and vest have been found in a Pawn Office:— Cast in both eyes; regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of age; is a Carpenter, and served 12 years in the Royal Engineers; smart active appearance. Warrant in hands of the Kildare Police. Kildare, November 18, 1887, ( 85107 c.— 45639.) Description of GERALD JOSEPH GRIFFIN, believed to be a native of county Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd November, 1887, in the barony of Kilkea and Moone, parish of Graney, stolen one dark gray frieze overcoat, with blue plaid lining, nearly new, one pair of strong nailed laced boots, with toe caps, and twelve stones of oats in a sack, the property of James Kavanagh, of Knocka- cree:— Slight fair moustache, blue eyes, thin nose, fresh complexion, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; is a labourer. Warrant for his arrest in hands of Royal Irish Constabulary, Athy; value of articles stolen, about £ 2 10s. 1 Athy, Nov. 11, 1887. ( 84995 c.— 45444.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1887. King's. Description of PATRICK CRAIG, native of Rathdowney, Queen's county, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of April, 1887, in the barony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted his wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, whereby they have become destitute and have been since in Tullamore Union Workhouse and receiving relief therein :— Three marks of small pox on right temple, round shoulders and short neck, large blue eyes, regular nose, florid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of age, dark hair; wore a light tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a maltster. A warrant in the hands of the Tullamore Royal Irish Constabulary for his arrest, and the Tullamore Guardians will defray all expenses if arrested. Tullamore, October 26th 1887. ( 84704 c.— 44916.) Leitrim. JAMES M'KIERNAN, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 26th August, 1887. ( 83353 c.— 42755.) Limerick. Description of WILLIAM MURPHY ( Sen.) native of Appletown, county Limerick, who stands charged with having on the 26th day of October, 1887, in the Barony of Glenquin, parish of Mahoonagh, seriously assaulted William Murphy ( Junior), by striking him a blow on the head with a loaded butt from the effects of which his life is in danger :— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, brown hair, wore a round hard hat, brown tweed coat, cord trowsers, and tweed vest; wore all his beard which is sandy except chin shaved ; is a farmer. Newcastle 28 October. 1887. ( 81745 c.— 44990.) Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 26th September, 1887, sin the barony of Glenquin, parish ol Kileedy, forcibly taken and carried away one single barrelled rifle, the property of John Manley; the rifle was an old one of Military pattern and the men were ooompanied by a black greyhound. 1. Ill looking, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore a round hard hat, gray tweed coat and trowsers ; supposed to be a farmer. 2. Rather good looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, light hair; wore a round hard hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers ; supposed to be a farmer. Newcastle, October 1, 1887. ( 84174 c 44046.) PATRICK SHEEHAN, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd September, 1887. ( 83883 43588.) Londonderry. Description of JAMES EDMUNDSON ( mother's surname Martin), native of Coleraine, who stands charged with having, between 31st August, 1887 and 16th November, 1887, in the barony of Coleraine, parish of Coleraine, embezzelled several sums of money amounting to about £ 25, the property of his employer Robert Tate, of Belfast:— Smart active appearance, blue eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, long black curly hair; wore a black jorry hat, brown Newmarket top coat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a commercial traveller. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Con- stabulary at Coleraine. Coleraine, Nov. 17, 1887. ( 85117 c.— 45656.) Meath. JOHN COLLINS, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th September, 1887. ( 83967 c.- 43716.) Tipperary. Description of MATTHEW FOGARTY, native of Gurtynaskehy, who stands charged with having, on the 6th day of November, 1887, in the barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Kilnerath, seriously assaulted Patrick Berkery, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger; Rather good looking; brown eyesvregular nose, fresh complexion, full round face, stout rftfake, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft hat, frieze coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmers son. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of the District Inspector, Newport, county Tipperary. Newport, Nov. 9 1887. ( 81928c 45317.) Description of PATRICK KENNEDY ( mother's surname Brien), native of Foilduff, who stands charged with having, on the 16th day of October, 1887, in tho barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Abington, seriously assaulted Thomas Russell, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger:— Stooped shoulders, wears all his beard, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 34 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a hard black hat, dark brown frieze coat, gray tweed trowsers, and vest: is a • farmer; evicted from holding. Warrant for his arrest in hands of District- Inspector, Newport, co. Tipperary. Newport, October 21, 1887. JOHN GARVEY, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry 18th August, 1887. Tyrone. Description of RICHARD UNTHANK, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of November, 1887, in the barony of Lower Dungannon, parish of Aghaloo, at Caledon, embezzled the sum of £ 450, the property of Earl of Caledon :— Downcast look; resembles a horse or cattle dealer, gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 55 years of age, gray hair; wore a low hat, dark coat, ( rowsers, and vest; is a land steward. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of tho Constabulary at Caledon; £ 50 reward will be paid by Earl of Caledon for such infor- mation as will lead to his arrest. Aughnacloy, Nov. 19, 1887. ( 85132 c.— 45683.) Description of Convict ELIZA GLASSE, B 93, convicted at Tyrone Assizes, on 23rd October, 1882, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 26 years of age on conviction ; singe; is a laundress; born in Fintona, county Tyrone ; resided before conviction at Omagh, where her friends reside; black hair, gray eyes, dark eyebrows, medium nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, long visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high. This woman was released on licence on 19th March, 1886; licence revoked 8th March, 1887. Apprehension now sought, for which a warrant has been issued. November 3, 1887. ( 80215 c.— 38029.) Description of PATRICK M'ALEER, native ot Dromore, who stands charged with having, on the night of 2lst or morning of 22nd September, 1887, in the barony of Strabane Lower, parish of Ardstraw, stolen a heifer, value for £ 11, the property of His Grace the Duke of Abercorn. The prisoner was arrested on the 22nd September, and was awaiting his trial on the 20th inst., in Omagh Gaol, from which he escaped this morning:— Good looking, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 17 years of age, light brown hair ; wore prison uniform, except cap and boots. FITT, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th September, 1887. ( 83804 c 43461.) Westmeath. Description of TWO MEN, names ind native placi unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 18th September, 1887, av> out 1 o'clock, p. m., in the barony of Clonlonon, parish of Ballyloughloe, visited the house of Michael Hindes. of Shurock, put him on his knees, beat him with a stick on the head, fired a shot from a pistol near his face, and threatened him : — 1. Stout make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 35 years of age; wore a gray frieze frock coat and soft black hat. 2. Smaller than No. 1, medium make, about 35 years of age; wore a gray tweed coat, gray trowsors and vest. Moate, September 19, 1887. ( 84018 c.— 43813.) Wicklow. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 16th November, 1887, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School, county Wicklow:— HENRY GODFREY , 1980, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, small nose, ordinary mouth, long visage. Formerly belonged to Finglas Bridge, county Dublin, step- parent resides at same place. Large cut mark on his right hand. His step- father's name is John Cunningham, a labourer, living at finglas Bridge, county Dublin. The school dress all with Reformatory stamp consists of:— Corduroy jacket, trowsers, and vest, leather belt, Scotch cap, strong nailed bopts. He left the Reformatory about 11 o'clock, accom- panied by the boy, John Murphy, 1995, The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 110 H. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 16th November, 1887, absconded from the Glen- cree Reformatory School at county Wicklow. g* JOHN MURPHY, 1995, about 17 years of ag^ 5 feet 2 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark gray eyes, inclining to brown, regular nose, small mouth, oval visage ; a mile on right cheek near his ear. Formerly belonged to Knockanesy, county Wexford. Parents reside at Broadway, county Wexford. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of:—- Corduroy trowsers, vest and jacket, leather belt, Scotch cap, strong nailed boots. He left the Reformatory about 11 o'clock, a. m., accompanied by the boy H. Godfrey, 1980. The M inager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person » vho may capture him with £ 1. ( 110 H C.) CHRISTOPHER DOOLAN, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 9th September, 1887, ( 83630 c.— 43187. CATHERINE DARCY, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 30th August, 1887. ( 83344 c.— 42893.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, tt Division. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM HENRY JONES, A 53, convicted at Dublin, at the Commis- sion, on 8th April, 1879, for larceny, after previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude :— 33 years of age on conviction, single, is a watchmaker; born at Bradbury; resided before conviction in Dublin, where his friends reside :— Brown and gray hair, gray sunken eyes, light brown eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, sallow complexion, round visage, slight . make, 5 feet 4^ inches high; ears pierced. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on licence, 6th May, 1887. He left Lusk, county Dublin, on the 8th instant, and said he was going to Balbriggan, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown, In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside :— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mOuth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, the 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, county Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultimo, stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 10Q H. c.) Particulars relative to Convict MARY GABRIEL, B 119, convicted at Waterford, at the Quarter Sessions, on 23rd January, 1884, lor larceny, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 31 years of age on conviction, married, is a prostitute, prison trade, laundress; born in Waterford, resided before con- viction in Waterford, where her friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, long visage, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison on licence, the 18th June, 1887. She recently left her residence 17, Ardee- street, Dublin, without reporting same to the Police, and her present where- abouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. October 20, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN SMITH, A 747, convicted at Maryboro,' Queen's County, at the Summer Assizes, on 9th July, 1883, for stealing, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 66 years of age on conviction, single, carpenter, born at Ball^- jamesduff, county Cavan, resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends reside at Bride- street, Dublin ; gray hair, blue eyes, gray eyebrows, regular nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high ; left little finger contracted, cut scars on face. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, on 1 st August, 1887, and went to reside in Dublin. He notified to the Metropolitan Police on the 24th ult. his intention of going to Carlow, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with_ under the 5 th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap^ P 112. ( 97- h. C.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK MORRISSY, A 676, convicted at Ros- common Spring Assizes, on 14th March, 1883, for ^^ my of a gun, and sentenced to 5 years' penal remtude :— 22 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born in Moylough, county Galway, resided before conviction at Moylough, where his friends reside; brown hair, blue eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, fresh complex- ion, round visage, stout make; 5 feet 8| inches high. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, or Licence the 3rd of June, 1887, and went to reside in Dublin. He left his lodgings, 123, Francis- street, without reporting to Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 97 H. C.) Convict THOMAS HAYDEN, A 710, not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd August, 1887. Description of JOHN WILLIAMSON, Clerk, whose apprehension is sought for stealing on the 19th instant, a cash box ( recovered) containing about £ 35, in silver, and a gold locket, oval • shape, white enamelled with coloured flowers on front, engraved back, with shield in centre; has been repaired at the hinge:— Aged 30 years; height, 5 feet 8 inches; complexion sallow ( but tanned from exposure); eyes, brown ; hair, brown ; slight side whiskers and moustache, brown ; has a bald place about the size of a half- penny piece on back of head, right side, which will be covered when wearing his hat; walks very erect. Has served 5 years in the 13th Hussars, and was bought off on the 16th August, 1881. lie joined the Lancashire Constabulary on the 26th September, 1881, and was discharged for misconduct on tho 18th January, 1882, and since then has been ramping about the country. Dressed, when he absconded at about 12 0 noon on the 19th instant, in a straight- back jacket with pockets on hips, and vest same material, viz., small check, colours gra-, brown, and black; mixed cloth trowsers; brown hard felt hat; and lace up boots, with heel plates and too protectors; or may be wearing a pair of elastic side boots ( new). It is earnestly requested that Chief Officers of Police will cause every possible inquiry to be made in their respective districts for the above- named, and if mot with, apprehend, and wire to the undersigned who holds a warrant for his arrest.
