All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Ory are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with tin offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fcc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Description of STAFFORD WILSON, native of Connor, and JOHN CRAIG ( mother's name Mawha), native of Ferniskey, who stand charged with having, on the 11th October, 1887, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Connor, unlawfully assaulted Jane Hyndman, and maliciously broke the shop window of Joseph Hyndman, of Kells:— 1. May have a fresh wound on forehead, dark eyes, long nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; wore a low black bat, dark coat, black trowsers, and dark vest; is a farm labourer, and has been employed in Govan, Scotland, in a timber yard. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 31 years of age, dark hair; wore a tweed cap ( light colour), dark coat, trowsers, and vest; was in the R. I. Description of DANIEL M'CARTHY, native of Mallow, who stands charged with having, on or about the 7th October, 1887, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Mallow, feloniously embezzled the sum of £ 71 16*. 9d., or thereabouts, the property of the Town Commissioners of Mallow: — Down- looking appearance, short neck, dark sunken eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 36 years of age; wore a hard black hat, black coat, trowsers, and vest; is a rate collector. Description of JEREMIAH HURLEY and JAMES HURLEY ( mothers' surname Burke), natives of Kilbarry, Dunmanway, who stand charged with having, on the 24th day of September, 1887, in the barony of East Division West Carbery, parish of Fanlobbus, seriously assaubed Robert Cambridge, Sheriff's bailiff, and James Bruen, Constable Royal Irish Constabulary, and rescued cattle from the cus- tody of the former :— 1. Heavy gait, two front teeth broken, dark eyes, long nose, yellow complexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet ten inches high, about 32 years of age, black hair cut short; wore a black frieze coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. 2. POISONING OF 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. Captain H. Steeds offers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for above malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals poisoned, and in the bran mashes used to convey. the poison. It is desired that all stations should look up chemists, druggists, grocers, & c., who may have sold arsenic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, & c., and communicate with R. C. Description of PATRICK CRAIG, native of Rathdowney, Queen's county, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of April, 1887, in the barony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted his wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, whereby they have become destitute and have been since in Tullamore Union Workhouse and receiving relief therein :— Three marks of small pox on right temple, round shoulders and short neck, large blue eyes, regular nose, florid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of age, dark hair; wore a light tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a maltster. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, NOVEMBER 8, 1887 I I Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 26th September, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Kileedy, forcibly taken and carried away one single barrelled rifle, the property of John Manley; the rifle was an old one of Military pattern and the men were aocompanied by a black greyhound. 1. HI looking, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, pale oomplexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore a round hard hat, gray tweed coat and trowsers ; supposed to be a farmer. 2. Rather good looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh oomplexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, light hair ; wore a round hard hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers ; supposed to be a farmer. Description of PATRICK SHEEHAN, mother's surname FITZGERALD, native of Cloghadoolarty, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of September, 1887, in the barony of Small County, parish of Fedamore, assaulted and wounded James Kavanagh, by stabbing him in the head with a knife or other sharp instrument, thereby placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, regular nose, swarthy complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 or 25 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a round soft black hat, black frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. Description of TWO MEN, names wd native place unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 18th September, 1887, about 1 o'clock, p. m., in the barony of Clonlouon, parish of Ballyloughloe, visited the house of Michael Hindes, of Shurock, put him on his knees, beat him with a stick on the head, fired a shot from a pistol near his face, and threatened him :— 1. Stout make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 35 years of age; wore a gray frieze frock coat, and soft black hat. 2. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN GERAGHTY, A 779, convicted at Galway Quarter Sessions, on 29th October, 1883, for larceny, and former conviction for felony, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 64 years of age on conviction, single, is a blacksmith, born in Minehill, near Headford, county Galway, resided before conviction in Shrule, county Galway, where his friends reside :— gray hair, hazel eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fair complexion, worn visage, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high; lost all front upper teeth. , This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, the 4th October, 1887, and went to Head- ford, cou uty Galway. He left Headford, the 6th ultimo, stating that he was going to Shrule, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Particulars relative to Convict HONOR BURKE, B 98, convicted at Trim, county Meath, at Quarter Sessions, on 15th November, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude:— Widow, has three children, prison trade, laundress and sewing; born at Roscommon, resided before conviction at Old- castle, county Meath, her friends reside at Roscommon and Dublin :— brown hair, blue eyes, light eyebrows, short nose, large mouth, fresh and freckled complexion, short and broad visage, stout make, 5 feet high; pockpitted. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison, 28th July, 1887, and went to Dublin; she left Ballinasloe on the 12th ult., stating she was going to Loughrea, but she has not reported herself at the latter piace, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 109 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict MARY GABRIEL, B 119, convicted at Waterford, at the Quarter Sessions, on 23rd January, 1884, for larceny, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude •— 31 years of age on conviction, married, is a prostitute, prison trade, laundress; born in Waterford, resided before con- viction in Waterford, where her friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, long visage, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison on licence, the 18th June, 1887. She recently left her residence 17, Ardee- street, Dublin, without reporting same to the Police, and her present where- abouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. October 20, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN SMITH, A 747, convicted at Marybo. ro,' Queen's County, at the Summer Assizes, on 9th July, 1883, for stealing, and sentenced to 5 year.-,' penal servitude:— 66 years of age on conviction, single, carpenter, born at Bally- jamesduff, county Cavan, resided before convictio^ m Dublin, his friends reside at Bride- street, Dublin; gray hair, blue eyes, gray eyebrows, regular nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high ; left little finger contracted, cut scars on face. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, on 1st August, 1887, and went to reside in Dublin. He notified to the Metropolitan Police on the 24th ult. his intention of going to Carlow, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and hi* present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 97 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK MORRISSY, A 676, convicted at Ros- common Spring Assizes, on 14th March, 1883, for felony of a gun, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 22 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born in Moylough, county Galway, resided before conviction at Moylough, where his friends reside; brown hair, blue eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, fresh complex- ion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 8$ inches high. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licence the 3rd of June, 1887, and went to reside in Dublin. He left his lodgings, 123, Francis- street, without reporting to Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Wanted on a Bench Warrant, for not surrendering to his bail at the Folkestone Quarter Sessions, 17th October, instant:— JOHN DILLON, late of 7, Clyde- terrace, Leyton, 42 years of age, 5 ft. in. high, hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, dark brown turning grey, blue eyes, dark complexion, smart appearance; was convicted in Paris in the name of Simpson, in September, 1881, and is supposed to have left London about three weeks since, for Ireland. Description of JOHN WILLIAMSON, Clerk, whose apprehension is sought for stealing on the 19th instant, a cash box ( recovered) containing about £ 35, in silver, and a gold locket, oval shape, white enamelled with coloured flowers on front, engraved back, with shield in centre ; has been repaired at the hinge :— Aged 30 years; height, 5 feet 8 inches; complexion sallow ( but tanned from exposure); eyes, brown ; hair, brown ; slight side whiskers and moustache, brown; has a bald place about the size of a half- penny piece on back of head, right side, which will be covered when wearing his hat; walks very erect. Native of Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire. Has served 5 years in the 13th Hussars, and was bought off' on the 16th August, 1881. He joined the Lancashire Constabulary on the 26th September, 1881, and was discharged for misconduct on the 18th January, 1882, and since then lias been tramping about the country. Dressed, when he absconded at about 12 0 noon on the 19th instant, in a straight- back jacket with pockets on hips, and vest same material, viz., small check, colours— gra>, brown, and black ; mixed cloth trowsers; brown hard felt hat; and lace up boots, with heel plates and toe protectors; or may be wearing a pair of elastic- side boots ( new). It is earnestly requested that Chief Officers of Police will cause every possible inquiry to be made in their respective districts for the above- named, and if met with, apprehend, and wire to the undersigned who holds a warrant lor his arrest. r- Not to be apprehended out of the United Kin^ fcm. V" Wanted by warrant for false pretences ( giving cheques to tradesmen knowing he had insufficient assets at the bank to meet them), ALFRED W. SMITH, alias WILLIAM WALKER, & c., about 60 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair and moustache, turning gray, pockpitted, has a slight impediment in his speech, and limps in walking; carried on a coach builder's business here, and will probably be found repairing carriages; signs his cheques " A. Absconded on the 26th ultimo, and now charged on a warrant with fraudulently appropriating a large sum of money belonging to the City and County Finance Company, Limited, of this City, JOHN ALLONBY, a Director and Chairman of the Company, 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, small even noticeable features, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, aquiline nose, has occasionally a peculiar way of rolling one of his eyes, the lower lip falls when • peaking, as though about to whistle, small hands, and has a habit of rubbing them when speaking, has a fair knowledge of the French and Spanish language. Wore a light gray tweed suit, light cloth overcoat, white linen shirt, turn down collar, light colored tie, black billyeock hat, and a pair of heavy shooting boots. Was last heard of on the 27th ultimo, at Birkenhead, where he posted a letter to a friend in Liverpool. The Police are particulary requested to make every possible enquiry at Shipping Offices, Hotels, and other likely places for accused, and if found, arrest, and telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. Wanted in this borough, under Warrant, on a charge of embezzling the sum of £ 82 14.?. 1 id :— JOHN GOSLING, a cashier, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather stout, broad shoulders, dark complexion, black hair, small dark moustache, no whiskers, small eyes, peculiar, Japanese or almond shape: and has a dull heavy surly countenance. Wanted for obtaining £ 10 and £ 8 on the 21st October, 1887, by means of two fictitious cheques, drawn on Messrs. Baywater, Tanqueray and Co's. Bank, 79, Queen Victoria- street, London, drawn by George Barratt, payable to and endorsed James Hall:— Major JAMES HALL, Royal Artillery ( false). Age 45 to 50, height 5ft. 6 to 8in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache ( very heavy) dark, dressed dark suit, grey broken check Ulster with cape, brown hard felt hat, wore one massive gold ring on finger of right hand, has several other cheques in his postession on the same Bank, which he will no doubt endeavour to pass. He adopts the foil wing plan Obtains respectable lodgings, ascertains the names of lodging housekeepers, tradespeople, he then informs these tradespeople that he is lodging with Mr. So- and- so, by making such false representations gets his cheques cashed. The above Reward wil be paid by W. S. CANTRELL, Esq., J. P., Windsor, for the apprehension and conviction of the person who obtained the above - mentioned amounts. The person after described was convicted before the Sheriff Court, Perth, on 11th August, 1887, on a charge of killing grouse out of season, and was sentenced to pay a fine of £ 33 within ten days, or suffer 88 days imprisonment.
