All Descriptions of persons whOse apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature' unless they have the Wan- ant in their possession when making the arrest. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, aa without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, - Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Defoription of JAMES BARRY, native of Lack- nacummeen, and DAVID CRONIN, native of Ballinacourtha, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 23rd October, 1887, in the barony of Kinaralea, parish of Clontade, indecently assaulted Catherine Henerty, aged 15 years:— 1. Swaggering gait, walks erect, hollow in back, military appearance, grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round- full face, medium make, 6 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age( fair hair, dark moustache; wore a black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and militia man. Short thick ireck, grey eyes, short slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, dark hair: wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer, farmer's son. Description of DAVID CUSSEN, native place unknown, supposed to be county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of June, 1887, in the barony of Orrery and Kilmore, parish of Buttevant, stolen a silver lever watch, the property of Michael Saunders, of Buttevant:— Three fingers of left hand turned inwards and crooked, shaves all his face, horsey appearance, gray eyes regular nose, swarthy complexion, thin face, very slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 33 years of age, dark hair turning gray ; wore a two- peeked cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a groom and horse trainer. Description of DANIEL M'CARThY, native of Mallow, who stands charged with having, on or about the 7th October, 1887, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Mallow, feloniously embezzled the suui of £ 71 16 « . 9d., or thereabouts, the property of the Town Commissioners of Mallow: — Down- looking appearance, short neck, dark sunken eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 36 years of age ; wore a hard black hat, black coat, trowsers, and vest; is a rate collector. Description of JEREMIAH HURLEY and JAMES HURLEY ( mothers' surname Burke), natives of Kilbarry, Dunmanway, who stand charged with having, on the 24th day of September, 1887, in the barony of East Division West Carbery, parish of Fanlobbus, seriously assaulted Robert Cambridge, Sheriffs bailiff, and James Bruen, Constable Royal Irish Constabulary, and rescued cattle from the cus- tody of the former:— 1. Heavy gait, two front teeth broken, dark eyes, long nose, yellow complexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet toil inches high, about 32' years of age, black hair cut short; wore a black frieze coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. 2. Rather broken nose, dark gray eyes, sallow com- plexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 21 years of age, black hair cut short; wore a black frieze coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest ; is a farmer's son, and brother to No. 1. POISONING OF 18 HUNTERS AT CLONSILLA, COUNTY DUBLIN, ON 8TH OCTOBER, 1887. Captain H. Steeds offers above reward for such information as would lead to a conviction for ab'jve malicious act. And as large quantities of arsenic, or ^ preparation of arsenic, have been found in the animals / poisoned, and in the bran mashes used to convey the poison. It is desired that all stations should look up chemists, druggists, grocers, ifcc., who may lmvo sold , arsenic, or arsenical preparations, such as sheep dips, ' 4c., and communicate with R. C. Description of PATRICK CRAIG, native of Rathdowney, Queen's county, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of April, 1887, in the barony of Ballycown, parish of Kilbride, wilfully deserted his wife Martha Craig and three children, at Tullamore, King's county, whereby they have become destitute and have been since in Tullamore Union Workhouse and receiving relief therein :— Three marks of small pox on right temple, round shoulders and short neck, large blue eyes, regular nose, florid com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 37 years of age, dark hair ; wore a light tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a maltster. Description of WILLIAM MURPHY ( Sen.) nativo ofAppletown, county Limerick, who stands chargedwith having on the 26th day of October, 1887, in the Barony of Glenquin, parish ot Mahconagh, seriously assaulted William Murphy ( Junior), by striking him a blow on the head with a loaded butt from the effects of which his life is in danger :— Gray or Hue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, brown hair, wore a round hard hat, brown tweed coat, cord trowser,-, and tweed vest; wore nil bis bend wl- ieh is sandy except chin shaved ; is u farmer. Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 26th September, 1887, in the barony of Glenquin, parish ot Kileedy, forcibly taken and carried away one single barrelled rifle, the property of John Manley; the rifle was an old one of Military pattern and the men were accompanied by a black greyhound. 1. Ill looking, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inchos high, about 35 or 40 years of age, light brown hair; wore a round hard hat, gray tweed coat and trowsers ; supposed to be a farmer. 2. Rather good looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, light hair ; wore a round hard hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers ; supposed to be a farmer. Description of PATRICK SHEEHAN, mother's surname FITZGERALD, native of Cloghadoolarty, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of September, 1887, in the barony of Small County, parish of Fedamore, assaulted and wounded James Kavanagh, by stabbing him in the head with a knife or other sharp instrument, thereby placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, regular nose, swarthy complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 or 25 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a round soft black hat, black frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. Warrant for his arrest is in hands of Sergeant at Fedamore. Braff, September 18, 1887. ( 83883 a 43588 ) Londonderry. Description of WILLAIM PARKE ( mother's surname Crawford), native of Castlerock, who stands charged with having, on the 5th October, 1887, in the half- barony of Coleraine, parish of Aghadowey, assaulted one James Graham, by stabbing him in the neck and side with a knife or some sharp instrument, thereby causing hiia grievous bodily harm :— Walks with a swaggering gait, blue eyes, cocked nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 19 years of age; wore a blue hunting cap, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of JOHN COLLINS, native of Drogheda, who stands charged with having, on the 10th day of September, 1887, at Beamore, in the barony of Lower Duleek, parish of St. Mary's, stolen two heifers, value £ 10 each, the property of Mrs. M. Matthews, Ballymakenny, county Louth, since re- covered in Salford Market:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inchos high, about 35 years of age; wore a hard hat, tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a cattle dealer and farmer. Description of PATRICK KENNEDY ( mother's surname Brien), native of Foilduff, who stands charged with having, on tho 16th day of October, 1887, in the barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Abington, seriously assaulted Thomas Russell, by striking him on tho head with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger s— Stooped shoulders, wears all his beard, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long ( ace, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 34 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a hard black hat, dark brown frieze coat, gray tweed trowsers, and vest: is a farmer | evicted from holding. Description of AARON HELLER, native of Russian Poland, who stands charged with having on the 21st day of September, 1887, in tho Municipal Borough, parish of St. John's Within, absconded from Waterford, feloniously taking with him a stm of £ 21 I5 « . sterling, and a quantity of tweed and Cashmere, value for about £ 2 18s. sterling, which was entrusted to his care to be conveyed to Kilkenny, and which is the property of one William J. Diamond:— Walks with a short quick step, very high forehead, grey p< ttch over one ear, speaks bad English, small dark eyes, regular nose, sunburnt complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 42 years of age ( but looks younger), dark hair, dark brown beard mixed with grey; wore a black hard hat, black morning coat, striped tweed trowsers, and black morning vest; is a Commercial Traveller fjr Drapery house; may be accompanied by a small woman, about twenty years old. Waterford, Sept. 26, 1887. ( 84056 c 43873). Description of AUGUSTUS E. FITT, native of Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of September, 1887, in the barony of Muni- cipal Borough, parish of Trinity Within, absconded from the Waterford Branch of the Provincial Bank, feloniously taking with him a sum of £ 457 sterling, which he received in said Bank in his capacity as a Clerk in said branch:— Walks with a military appear- ance, very erectly, hollow in back, turns in his toes slightly when walking, rather small and well shaped feet, good looking, very pleasing countenance, remark- ably whito teeth, shaves all face, wore a dark moustache; blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, aoout 35 years of age, dark hair ; probably wore a black hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers and vest, d irk top coat, generally wears a sack made coat; Cashier in Waterford Branch of Provincial Bank. Description of TWO MEN, names and native place unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 18th September, 1887, aHout 1 o'clock, p. m., in the barony of Clonlonon, parish of Ballyloughloe, visited the house of Michael Hindes, of Shurock, put him on his knees, beat him with a stick on the head, fired a shot ' from a pistol near his face, and threatened him :— ' 1. Stout make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 35 years of age; wore a gray frieze frock coit, and soft black hat. 2. Smaller than No. I, m° dium make, about 35 years of age; wore a gray tweed caut, gray trowsers and vest. Moate, September 19, 1887. ( 81018 c 43813.) Wicklow. Description of CHRISTOPHER DOOLAN, native of 4, Watery- lane, Old Kilmainham, Dublin, or may be found at Kingstown, whero he lived for some timo with a cabbage woman, who stands charged with having, on the 5th September, 1887, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Powerscourt, stolen 3 sovereigns, the property of Margaret Byrne:— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, slight make, 5 feet high, about 14 years of age, red sandy hair; wore a two- peaked tweed cap, long black coat, gray tweed trowsers, and dark vest. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, JOHN GARVEY, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 18th August, 1887. Tyrone, Description of PATRICK M'ALEER, native of Dromore, who stands charged with having, on the night of 21st or morning of 22nd September, 1887, in the barony of Strabane Lower, parish cf Ardstraw, stolen a heifer, value for £ 11, the property of His Grace the Duke of Abercorn. The prisoner was arrested on tho 22nd September, and was awaiting his trial on the 20th inst., in Omagh Gaol, from which he escaped this morning:— Good looking, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 kiches high, about 17 years of age, light brown hair ; wore prison uniform, except cap and boots. Newtownstewart, Oct. 15,1887. ( 84022c.—. 44550.) 6 Division. Particulars relative to Convict MARY GABRIEL, B 119, convicted at Waterford, at the Quarter Sessions, on 23rd January, 1884, lor larceny, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 31 years of age on conviction, married, is a prostitute, prison trade, laundress; born in Waterford, resided before con- viction in Waterford, where her friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, long visage, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high. This woman was. released from Grangegorman Prison on licence, the 18th June, 1887. She recently left her residence 17, ArJee- street, Dublin, without reporting same to the Police, and her present where- abouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5 th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 . Vic., cap. 112. October 20, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN SMITH, A 747, convicted at Maryboro,' Queen's County, at the Summer Assizes, on 9th July, 1883, for stealing, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 66 years of age on conviction, single, carpenter, born at Bally- jamesduff, county Cavan, resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends reside at Bride- street, Dublin; gray hair, blue eyes, gray eyebrows, regular nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high ; left little finger contracted, cut scars on face. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, on 1st August, 1887, and went to reside in Dublin. He notified to the Metropolitan Police on the 24th ult. his intention of going to Carlow, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 97 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK MORRISSY, A 676, convicted at Ros- common Spring Assizes, on 14th March, 1883, for felony of a gun, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude : 22 years of age on conviction, singlo, is a labourer, born in Moylough, county Galway, resided before conviction at Moylough, where his friends reside; brown hair, blue eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, fresh complex- ion, round visage, stout make. 5 feet 8j inches high. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licence the 3rd of June, 1887, and went to reside in Dublin. He left his lodgings, 123, Francis- street, without reporting to Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 97 H. c.) Convict THOMAS HAYDEN, A 710, not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd August, 1887. Convict JAMES MURPHY alias LAWLOR, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th August, 1887. JOHN T. FLEMING, not arrested; Hne- and- Cry, 25 th August, 1887. Convict JOHN BURNS, not arrested ; Hue and- Cry, 2nd August, 1887. ( 83 H. C.) ENGLISH POLICE. Folkestone. Wanted on a Bench Warrant, for not surrendering to his bail at the Folkestone Quarter Sessions, 17th October, instant:— JOHN DILLON, late oi 7, Clyde- terrace, Leyton, 42 years of ag--, 5 ft. in. high, hair, beard, whiskeis, and moustache, dark brown turning grey, blue eyes, dark complexion, smart appearance; was convicted in Paris in the name of Simpson, in September, 1881, and is supposed to have left London about threo weeks since, for Ireland. Information to Superintendent TAYLOR, Town Hall, Folkestone, who holds the Warrant. Folkestone, October, 18th. 1887. ( 105. H. C.) Glossop. Description of JOHN WILLIAMSON, Clerk, whose apprehension is sought for stealing on the 19th instant, a cash box ( recovered) containing about £ 35, in silver, and a gold locket, oval shape, white enamelled with coloured flowers on froDt, engraved back, with shield in centre ; has been repaired at the hinge :— Aged 30 years; height, 5 feet 8 inches; complexion sallow ( but tanned from exposure); eyes, brown ; hair, brown ; slight side whiskers and moustache, brown ; has a bald place about the size of a half- penny piece on back of head, right side, which will be covered when wearing his hat; walks very erect. Native of Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire. Has served 5 years in the 13th Hussars, and was bought off on the 16th August, 1881. He joined the Lancashire Constabulary on the 26th September, 1881, and was discharged for misconduct on the 18th January, 1882, and since then has been tramping about the country. Diessed, when he absconded at about 12 0 noon on the 19th instant, in a straight- back jacket with pockets on hips, and vest same material, viz., small check, colours— gray, brown, and black.; mixed cloth trowsers; brown hard felt hat; and lace up boots, with heel plates and toe protectors; or may be wearing a pair of elastic- side boots ( new). It is earnestly requested that Chief Officers of Polices- will cause every possible inquiry to be made in their respective districts for the above- named, and if met wiih, apprehend, and wire to the undersigned who holds a warrant for his arrest. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, AUGUST 26, 1887. Liverpool. " Wanted by warrant for false pretences ( giving cheques to tradesmen knowing he had insufficient asset* aV the bank to meet them), ALFRED W. SMITH, alias WILLIAM WALKER, & c., about 50 years of age, S feet 4 inches high, dark hair and moustache, turning gray, pockpitted, has a slight impediment in his speech, and limps in walking; carried on a coach builder's business here, and will probably be found repairing carriages; signs his cheques " A. W• Smith." If found, arrest and wire to Chief Superintendent Williams, Liverpool. Detcctive Department, Liverpool, October 25, 1887. ( 106 H. C.) £ 50 REWARD. Absconded on the 26ih ultimo, and now charged on a warrant with fraudulently appropriating a large sum of money belonging to the City and County Finance Company, Limited, of this City, JOHN ALLONBY, a Director and Chairman of the Company, 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, small even noticeable features, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, aquiline nose, has occasionally a peculiar way of rolling one of his eyes, the lower lip falls when speaking, ns though about to whistle, small hands, and has a habit of rubbing them when speaking, has a fair knowledge of tho French and Spanish language. Wore a light gray tweed suit, light cloth overcoat, white linen shirt, turn down collar, light colored tie, black billycock hat, and a pair of heavy shooting boots. Was last heard of on the 27th ultimo, at Birkenhead, where he posted a letter to a friend in Liverpool. The Police are particulary requested to make every possible enquiry at Shipping Offices, Hotels, and other likely places for accused, and if found, arrest, and telogrnph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. Tho above Reward will be paid by the Company for the arrest and conviction of Allonby. Detective Department, Central Police Office. Liverpool, 7th October, 1887. ( 104 H. c.) * N' Macclesfield. Age 45 to 50, height 5ft. 6 to 8in., complexion sallow, hair and moustacho ( very heavy) dark, dressed dark suit, grey broken chcck Ulster with cape, brown hard felt hat, wore one massive gold ring on finger of right hand, has several other cheques in his possession on the same ( lank, which he will no doubt endeavour to pass. He adopts the folbwing plan :— Obtains respectable lodgings, ascertains the names of lodging housekeepers, tradespeople, he then informs those tradespeople that he is lodging with Mr. So- and- so, by making such false representations gets his cheques cashed. The above Reward wil be paid by W. S. CANTRELL, Esq., j. p., Windsor, for the apprehension and conviction of the person who obtained the above - mentioned amounts. The person after described was convicted before the Sheriff Court, Perth, on 11th August, 1887, on a charge of killing grouse out of season, and was sentenced to pay a fine of £ 33 within ten days, or suffer 88 days imprisonment. As he has not paid his fine, a Sherrifl's Warrant has now been issued for his apprehension : — ALEXANDER MACDONALD BEATON, a mason, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches in height, ordinary make, dark hair and moustache, swarthy complexion, a native of Strathardle, Perthshire, but has spent a good part of his time in Dundee. Description of an ass, the property of William Johnston, of Cullagh, parish of Bumblin and county of Roscommon, which was stolen from a field at Cullagh, on or about 16th or 17th instant; light brown female ass, white belly and legs, leans outward on right fore foot when walking, crack across both hooves of fore- legs, marked on back with white hair from a recent sore, shod on fore- feet only, 7 years old, in good condition ; value for £ 1 10s.
