^ Police Gazette, OB HUE- AND- CRY. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. RBGUIIATIOSTS. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to tho Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the namo of the penson in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1887. NOTICE. The composition of the Hue- and- Cry will be found arranged for easy reference as follows:— ( a.) Regulations on top of first page. ( b.) Apprehensions sought. ( 1.) Royal Irish Constabulary. ( 2.) Dublin Metropolitan Polioe. ( 3.) English Police. ( 4.) Scotch Polioe. ( c.) Animals, & c., stolen. < d.) Property stolen. ( e.) Apprehensions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. Description of TWO PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 5th August, 1887, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Kirkinriola, obtained a gold watch, chain, and diamond out gold brooch and ear- rings, by false pretences, all value for £ 9 10s :— 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair, dark moustache, beard, and whiskers; wore a black cloth coat, light tweed trowsers, and black cloth vest; dressed as a clergy- man, with low soft black hat. Has been in America, and will likely endeavour to return there; apparently a clergyman. 2. Red birth mark on left side of neck, gray eyes, regular noee, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a white straw hat trimmed with white lace, and cream coloured silk dress; wife of above. The Police at Ballymena hold a Warrant for arrest of both the above. Ballymena, August 8, 1887. ( 83040 o.— 42272.) Description of JAMES WALLS, native of Randalstown, who stands charged with having, on the jfith of August,^ 887, in the barony of Upper Belfast, garish of Do^^ ve, attempted to commit a rape on one Roseanna M'Millen, of Donegore:— Round shoulders, dark eyes, aquiline nose, dark complexion, elight make y> feet 6 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hSir; wore a low hard hat, gray- coat, dark trowsers, patches on knees; is a labourer. The Royal Irish Constabulary at Templepatrick hold a Warrant for hie arrest. Antrim, August 6, 1887. ( 83005 c.— 12222.) Description ot JAMES CLEMENTS, mother's surname M'CONNELL, native of Larne, who stands charged with having, on or about 21st June, 1887, in the barony of Upper Glenarm, parish of Larne, unlaw- fully and carnally known Hessie Allen, a girl under the age of thirteen years:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a guernsey coat, gray striped trowsers and vest; is a sailor. Description of PATRICK ROONEy, native place not known, WILLIAM HENRY DEACON, native of Glasgow, JOHN M'DONNELL, WILLIAM LEE, EDWARD BARRY, native places not known, and JOHN JAMESON, native of Dublin, who stand charged with having, on the 30th July, 1887, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, stolen the sum of twenty sovereigns, from the house of John M'Gann of Market- street, Ennis:— 1. Bald on top of head, slightly round shoulders, smart appearance, wore all his beard clipped rather close, turning gray, gray moustache, dark blue eyes, cocked nose, pale complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair ; wore a round hard black hat, rather long black coat, trowsers, and vest. 2. Scar on bridge of nose, bald on top of head smart appearance, dark side whiskers turning gray, clipped cloee, shaves his chin, dark moustache, dark eyes, hooked nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a brown soft hat ( American style), tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 3. Lost some teeth from front of mouth, dark brown moustache, sullen looking, dark piercing eyes, sallow complexion, thin face, active make, 5 feet inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a round black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 4. Round shoulders, rather short neck, small fair moustache, gray eyes, thin nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, wore a round black hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 5. Small fair moustache, small gray eyes, slight nose, fair complexion, regular face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a round black hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 6. Very small fair moustache, blue eyes, short cocked nose, fair complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair ; wore a round hard black hat, light coloured dust coat, striped tweed trowsers, and vest. These six men returned for trial on 5th August. Any information regarding them, including previous convictions, to be addressed to District Inspector at Ennis. Cork. Description of DENIS HARRINGTON, native of Kealagullane, who stands charged with having, on the 25th August, 1887, in the barony of Bere, parish of Kilcaskin, seriously assaulted Eugene Sullivan, by cutting him on the head and leg with a scythe :— High cheek bones, large mouth, short neck, heavy eyebrows; large gray eyes, thick nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 23 years of age; wore a soft black hat, dark coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. Description of THOMAS O'NEILL, native of Drogheda, who stands charged with having, on the 14th August, 1887, in the barony of West Offaley, parish of Ballyshannon, stolen a quantity of wearing apparel:— Awns bronzed to above elbows, result of being fireman on board steamers, slight cast in one eye, square shoulders, wore moustache and slight side whiskers in front of ears, dark eyes, regular no3e, dark complexion, rather thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark hair; wore a jerry hat, white moleskin jacket, old gray tweed trowsers, no vest, and strong nailed boots; is a tramp labourer; may be employed as fireman. Description of ROBERT WALSHE ( mother's surname Meade), native of Waterford city, who stands charged with having, on the 18th March, 1886, in the barony of Brawney, parish of Saint Mary's, deserted his wife and four children, which have since been chargeable to the rates of the Tullamore Union : — Pockpitted, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 5£ inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; journeyman harness maker. Description of JAMES M'KIERNAN ( mother's surname Donegan), native of Drumhalla, who stands charged with having, on the 19th August, 1887, in the barony of Mohill, parish of Cloone, attempted to commit rape on the person of Rose DoyleSlight whiskers under ears, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, black cloth coat, black cord trowsers, blaek cloth vest; is a farmer's son. Description of PATRICK CASSIDY, native of Moyheeland, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of August, 1887, in the barony of Loughin- shollen, parish of Ballinascreen, seriously stabbed one Peter M'Gurk with a knife, thereby endangering his life:— Large ears, red lips, large hooked nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft hat, gray coat, and white trowsers; is a labourer. Description of DANIEL CASEY, native of Augh- akerin, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 24tli July, 1887, in the barony of Moydow parish of Killashee, seriously assaulted Robert Neary, of Aughnaskea, by striking him on the head with a loaded whip;— Walks with a slight stoop, and generally carries his hands in his trowsers' pockets ; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10^ inches high, about 22 or 23 years of age; wore a soft black hat and gray tweed suit; is a metal caster or tinker. Mayo, Description of PATRICK DURKAN, ( mother's surname Fansey), native of Knockfadda, who stands charged with having, on or about the 31st day of July, 1887, at Knockfadda, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Killasser, seriously assaulted James Fansey, by kicking him in the abdomen, whereby his life is now in imminent danger:— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 20 years of age, dark hair ; wore a dark tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and dark tweed vest: is a labourer. Description of MARY M'GORMAN, alias BRIDGET M'CANN, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1887, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, stolen the following articles, the property of Catherine Flynn :— One red petticoat, one black cashmere quilted petticoat, one black stuff cape, trimmed with lace, one green plaid shawl, one black stuff umbrella :— Impedi- ment in speech, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair ; wore a white hat, trimmed with cream- coloured lace, with a red flower in front, elastic boots, supposed to be wearing the stolen articles above described; is supposed to be a tramp. Description of JOSEPH SCANLON ( Mother's surname Scully), native of Garroon, Queen's County, who stands charged with having, on the 29th day of August, 1887, in the barony of Tinnahinch, parish of Rosenallis, unlawfully and forcibly broken open and entered the dwelling- house of Bernard Molloy, of Garroon, between the hours of 5 and 7 p. m., and did • teal, take, and carry away therefrom, one silver hunting lever watch, No. 31573, maker's name " Mosley, Waterford," on dial, value for £ 4:— 2 teeth out of front of mouth, bald spot about size of a shilling on back of head near one ear; wears all his beard, which is dark brown, and thin ; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair; wore a brown coat, trowsers, and vest; is- a carpenter. Description of JOHN GARVEY, native of Bansha, who stands charged with having, on the 15th of August, 1887, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Templeneiry, been one of a party who attacked the dwelling- house of Edward Mahony, at crallagh:— Blue eyes, short nose,* fresh complexion round face, very stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 21 years of age ; wore an old black jerry hat, worn dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. SAMUEL M'CUTCHEON, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 2nd August, 1887. ( 82910 c 42070.) Waterford. Description of HENRY GOODWYNN, alias GOODMAN ( supposed native « of Dublin City), who stands charged with having, on the 17th day of August, 1887, in the barony of St. John's Without, parish of Newtown Upper, broken into the residence of Miss Mary Strangman, of Newtown Upper, and forcibly taken therefrom the sum of £ 14 7s. 4d.\— Right leg smaller than left from knee down, scarcely noticeable, wears a cork sole about an inch thick inside of right boot, has a slight drag in right leg when walking, anchor on each forearm with the letter H on one arm, speaks with a nice Dublin accent; light gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, hard and pleasing looking face, medium make, about 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a black hard hat, black serge coat, gray tweed trowsers, and black serge vest; the coat is short, sack made, dark brown moustache, no beard or whiskers; works in different capacities, generally painting. Description of MARGARET MORRISY ( mother's name Catherine Morrisy), native of Moate, who, on the 14th day of August, 1887, in the barony of Clon- lonan, parish of Kilcleagh, left her home and has not since been heard of, and it is ( eared she may have met with foul play :— Hazel or gray eyes, thin nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 4 feet high, about 16 years of age, light fair hair; wore a white straw hat trimmed with black velvet, with steel buckles in front, black light fitting short jacket, and red cashmere dress ; is a domestic servant. Description of CHRISTOPHER DOOLAN, native of 4, Watery- lane, Old Kilmainham, Dublin, or may be found at Kingstown, where he lived for some time with a cabbage woman, who stands charged with having, on the 5th September, 1887, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Powerscourt, stolen 3 sovereigns, the property of Margaret Byrne:— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, slight make, 5 feet high, about 14 years ofage, red sandy hair; wore a two- peaked tweed cap, long black coat, gray tweed trowsers, and dark vest. Description of CATHERINE DARCY mother's surname Noblett, native of Ballymaghroe, who stands charged with having, on or about the 20th August, 1887, in the barony of Ballinacor South, parish of Moyne, stolen the following articles from out of the dwelling- house of Rose Dalton :— One buff skirt, two girls buff jackets, one brown straw hat with aigret in front, one pair of woman's elastic boots ( nearly new), and the sum of 10s.:— Thick lips, large mouth, awk- ward gait; brown eyes, thick short nose, broad face, stout make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 17 years of age, dark hair ; supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes; Is believed to have gone to her uncle, William Darcy, a tram- car driver, who resides at Clare Cottage, Beach or strand- road, Sandymount, Dublin. Warrant in hands of Dublin Metropolitan Police. Timohely, August, 25, 1887. ( 83344 c. 42893.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, 6 Division. Description of JOHN T. FLEMING, a rate collector, of 36, Heytesbury- street, and Putland- road, Bray, wanted for embezzlement:— He is about 34 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, very round shoulders, blind of one eye ( supposed the right), fair hair and complexion, slight sandy monstache, chin shaved; generally dresses in tweed. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superintendent's Office, G Division, 22nd August, 1887. Particulars relative to Convict THOMAS HAY- DEN, A 710, convicted at Dublin, at the Recorder's Court, on 31st March, 1883, lor larcep^, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 26 years or » g£ on convic- tion, single, is a draper's assistant; born at Dublin, resided before conviction in Dublin, where his friends reside, Irishtown- road, Dublin; light brown hiar, hazel eyes, fair eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 J inches high ; cut scar left side of face, lost two upper front teeth. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on licence, 2nd April, 1887, and went to reside at Irish- town- road. He has recently left his residence without reporting to Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 91 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict JAMES MURPHY alias LAWLOR, who is missiDg from Maryborough Prison, where he was last seen about 5 o'clock, p. m., on the 16th August, 1887; convicted at Recorder's Court, borough of Belfast, on 26th September, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude ; is also liable to serve 304 days of a former sentence :— 26 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman catholic, married, is a carpenter, prison trade carpenter, resided before conviction at Belfast, where his friends reside; brown hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, large nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high ; cut scar on top of head; cut mark on little finger left hand; mark on left leg, and two on breast; cut mark on second toe, left foot. NOTICE— A money reward not exceeding £ 5 may be paid to any person who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected his escape from a Government prison. Application to be made to the General Prisons Board, Dublin Castle. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by any means whatever aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be guilty of felony, and being convicted thereof, shall be kept in penal servitude for any term not less than 6 nor more than 8 years. ( 90 H. c.) Particulars relative to Convict JOHN BURNS, convicted at Downpatrick, county Down Assizes, 17th March, 1883, for uttering base coin, and previous conviction for like offence, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude:— 63 years of age on conviction; read; Roman Catholic ; widower; is a labourer; born in Ballybay, county Monaghan; resided before convic- tion in Newry, his friends reside in Newry; gray hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, worn visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high ; ruptured on right side. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, 20th February, 1887, and went to reside at lodgings in Maryboro', which place he left without notifying same to the R. I. Constabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 83 H. c.) Description of TWO MEN, supposed to be foreign- ers ( names unknown), wanted in this borough, charged on warrant with stealing two hundred pounds in notes and gold, by means of a trick, on 12th August, 1887. Native of Florence. Speaks fairly good English. 2nd. About 30 years of age, about 5ft. 7 or 8 inches high, very stout, corpulant, full round face, clear ruddy complexion, very light brown hair— cut short, light brown moustache, no whiskers, and blue eyes, nice appearance, and had a rather rollicking walk. Dressed in navy blue ribbed cloth suit, and black bowler hat, new elastic side boots of small size. Wore a very large mourning ring with cameo stone with raised figure on it, stone of ring large— Almost covering the third joint of fourth finger left hand. Is an Italian, but has the appearance of a Norweigan or German, and appeared not to be able to speak English. Ten Pounds reward will be given on apprehension and conviction of the above men. Please inquire at Banks, & c., for the fiotes. Police Officers are requested to make all possible search and enquiry for the above men at Hotels, Shipping Offices, Boarding Houses, Private Lodging Houses, Outgoing Vessels, & c., & c., and if found arrest and communicate with A. No. J. 328, HECTOR M'NEIL alias ANDREW PHILLIPS, who is wanted by the Kendal Borough Police, for failing to report:— 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, proportionate figure, oval face ; a labourer and a native of Liverpool. Marks :— Scar left side of head and bridge of nose ; Right Side— Small scar side elbow, one blue dot, boil marks side ribs, scar shoulder- blade and middle finger; Left Side— Vaccination marks, birth stain below breast, circular scar and small one on hip and mole. He was liberated from Borstal prison on licence on the 25th day of June, 1887; sentence expires on 28th June, 1888. He left Kendal on the 15th July, 1887, and stated that it was his intention of removing to Manchester, but he has failed to report his arrival there. Glasgow. £ 100 REWARD. Wanted here for theft of £ 886, consisting of £ 500 in £ 1 notes, British Linen Company's bank; £ 85 in £ 5 notes, other banks; £ 271 in £ l notes, various banks, and £ 30 in £ 5 notes, Bank of England, from the British Linen Company's Bank, Charing- cross, on 25th inst. :— lst. A man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark brown whiskers, cut short, and heavy dark moustache; dressed in a dark tweed suit and round felt black hat. 2nd. About same age and height, dressed in a brown tweed suit, and black felt hat. 3rd. A man about 40 years of age, tall and stout made, round full face, no whiskers, heavy dark brown moustache; dressed in dark tweed coat and vest, light- coloured trowsers and black felt hat. 4th. A man from 35 to 40 years of age, short and stout, dark brown whiskers and moustache; dressed in a dark tweed suit, and black ( thinks soft) felt hat. All spoke with slight foreign accent ( thinks German); and one of them carried a small leather bag. While three of the. men kept the bank teller and clerk in conversation, at front of the counter, the fourth man went round behind the teller, into his box, and lifted the bundle of notes— the door of the box being left open. The above Reward is offered by the Bank Directors to any person or persons who will give such informa- tion as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the Thieves. Wanted on a Sheriff's Warrant charged with embezzlement of the above sum, DONALD JAMES ROSE MACLEAN, lately clerk and cashier in the employment of the County Fire and Provident Life Insurance Companies, 32, Renfield- street, here :— 21 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slender make, auburn hair, pale complexion; supposed dressed in a light tweed suit. Absconded on 9th inst. Police Officers are requested to make particular search and inquiry for accused at hotels, shipping- offices, and other likely places, and to search outward- bound vessels, and if he be found, to have him arrested, and information sent to the Chief Constable, here. Perthshire. The persons after described were convicted before the Sheriff Court, Perth, on 11th August, 1887, on a charge of killing grouse out of season, and were each sentenced to pay a fine of £ 33 within ten days, or suffer 88 days imprisonment. As none of the parties have paid their fines, a Sherriffs Warrant has now been issued for their apprehension :— 1. JOHN FARQUHARSON, labourer, gunsmith, or poacher, aged 49 years, looks older, 5 feet 9 inches in height, native of Glenisla, Forfarshire, gray hair and moustache ( almost white), shaved on cheeks, but may allow his beard to grow, fresh complexion and stout make. A famous Blairgowrie Volunteer Rifle shot, and notorious grouse poacher, well known in East Perthshire and Forfarshire. 2. ROBERT JOHN STEWART, labourer or gamekeeper, aged 28 years, 5 feet 9 inches in height, slender make, fresh complexion, brown hair, fair moustache and small side whiskers, born at Penrith, Cumberland, but brought up in Glenshee, Perthshire ; up till recently was employed as a Gamekeeper in Essex, where he spent the" past three or four years. 3. ALEXANDER MACDONALD BEATON, a mason, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches in height, ordinary make, dark hair and moustache, swarthy complexion, a native of Strathardle, Perthshire, but has spent a good part of his time in Dundee. The police are requested to search for and apprehend the accused, or any of them, and, failing payment of the fines or fine, convey direct to Perth, or wire to the subscriber, who will immediately send for them.
