ATIOKTS. ft- r All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Ory are to be transmitted undercover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Oust| o, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward tho Informations to tho Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have tho Warrant in their possession. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will bo necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it beare, as without this information the mistako cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Ro\ ral Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, ifcc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, AUGUST 23, 1887. NOTICE. The composition of the Hue- and- Cry will be found arranged for easy reference a * follows:— ( a.) Regulations on top of first page, ( b.) Apprehensions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. Description of TWO PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 5th August, 1887, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish ot Kirkinriola, obtained a gold watch, chain, and diamond cut gold brooch and ear- rings, by false pretences, all value for £ 9 10s :— 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair, dark moustache, beard, and whiskers; wore a black cloth coat, light tweed trowscrs, and black cloth vest; dressed as a clergy- man, with low soft black hat. Has been in America, and will likely endeavour to return there ; apparently a clergyman. 2. Red birth mark on left side of neck, gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a white straw hat trimmed with white lace, and cream coloured silk dress; wife of above. Tho Police at Ballymena hold a Warrant for'arrest of both the above. Ballymena, August 8, 1887. ( 83040 o.— 42272.) Description of JAMES WALLS, native of Randalstown, who stands charged with having, on the 5th of August, 1887, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Donegore, attempted to commit a rape on one Roseanna M'Millen, of Donegore:— Round should dark eyes, aquiline nose, dark complexion, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a low hard hat, gray coat, dark trowsers, patches on knees ; is a labourer. Description ot JAMES CLEMENTS, mother's j surname M'CONNELL, native of Larne, who stands charged with having, on or about 21st June, 1887, in the barony of Upper Glenarm, parish of Larne, unlaw- fully and carnally known Hessie Allen, a girl under the age of thirteen years:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, § feet 9 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a guernsey coat, gray striped trowsers and vest; is a sailor. Description of PATRICK ROONEY, native place not known, WILLIAM HENRY DEACON, native of Glasgow, JOHN M'DONNELL, WILLIAM LEE, EDWARD BARRY, native places not known, and JOHN JAMESON, native of Dublin, who stand charged with having, on the 30th July, 1887J in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, stolen the sum of twenty sovereigns, from the house of John M'Gann of Market- street, Ennis :— 1. Bald on top of head, slightly round shoulders, smart appearance, wore all his beard clipped rather close, turning gray, gray moustache, dark blue eyes, cocked nose, pale complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair ; wore a round hard black hat, rather long black coat, trowsers, and vest. 2. Scar on bridge of nose, bald on top of head smart appearance, dark side whiskers turning gray, clipped close, shaves his chin, dark moustache, dark eyes, hooked nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a brown soft hat ( American style), tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 3. Lost some teeth from front of mouth, dark brown moustache, sullen looking, dark piercing eyes, sallow complexion, thin face, active make, 5 feet 7- Jj inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a round black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 4. Round shoulders, rather short neck, small fair moustache, gray eyes, thin nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, wore a round black hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 5. Small fair moustache, small gray eyes, slight nose, fair complexion, regular face, active make, 5 fleet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a round black hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 6. Very small fair moustache, blue eyes, short cocked nose, fair complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair ; wore a round hard black hat, light coloured dust coat, striped tweed trowsers, and vest. These six men returned for trial on 5th August. Any information regarding them, including previous convictions, to be addressed to District Inspector at Ennis. Ennis, August 7, 1887. Description of MICHAEL BROWN, native of Knockduff Upper, who stands charged with having, on the 9th April, 1887, at Curragh, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Clonfert, with others committed or attempted to commit a rape upon Ellen Roche, and being required to give bail for his appearance at next Cork Assizes, failed to do so and has absconded:— Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 28 years of age, black hair; wore a soft black hat, frieze coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer. Description of THOMAS O'NEILL, native of Drogheda, who stands charged with having, on the 14th August, 1887, in the barony of West Offaley, parish of Ballyshannon, stolen a quantity of wearing apparel:— Arms bronzed to above elbows, result of being fireman on board steamers, slight cast in one eye, square shoulders, wore moustache and slight side whiskers in front of ears, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, rather thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark hair; wore a jerry hat, white moleskin jacket, old gray tweed trowsers, no vest, and strong nailed boots; is a tramp labourer ; may be employed as fireman. King's, Description of ROBERT WALSHE ( mother's surname Meade), native of Waterford city, who stands charged with having, on the 18th March, 1886, in the barony of Brawney, parish of Saint Mary's, deserted his wife and four children, which have since been chargeable to the rates of the Tullamore Union : — Pock pitted, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 5J- inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; journeyman harness maker. Description of ATTY DONAGHY ( mother's surname Kidd), native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of March, 1887, in the barony of N. W. Liberties, parish of Templemore, stolen a sweeping machine, the property of Georgo Hasson:— Hole on right cheek, anchor, heart, chain and some letters tattooed on both arms, dark eyes, short nose, dark complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 30 or 35 years of ago, brown hair, small brown moustache; wore a black silk cap, no coat, dark trowsers, moleskin vest; is a tramp sweep. It is thought that he is tramping through the adjoining counties. Londonderry, August 6, 1887. ( 83003 c— 42218.) Description of PATRICK CASSIDY, native of Moyheeland, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of August, 1887, in the barony of Loughin- shollen, parish of Ballinascreen, seriously stabbed one Peter M'Gurk with a knife, thereby endangering his life:— Large ears, red lips, large hooked nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft hat, gray coat, and white trowsers ; is a labourer. A Warrant tor his arrest is in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Draperstown. Magnerafelt, August 7, 1887. ( 82999 c.— 42219.) Description of JAMES SMYTH, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 23rd or morning of 24th July, 1887, in tho barony of N. W. Liberties of Londonderry, parish of Templemore, burglariously broke out of a lodging house, taking with him a suit of gray twoed and a shirt, all value £ 1 10s. the coat, frock make with flaps on sides btft no pockets:— Tattoo marks of a ring, each on two fingers, and tattooing on arms, lame from a blister on the heel; dark eyes, regular nose, dark comploxion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair and moustache, no winders; wore a peaked cap with tassel, gray tweed frock coat, trowsers, and vest, small laced shoes; believed to be wearing the stolen clothes which ar ; o6 big for him, is a tramp; believed to be a discharg '. soldier. ' Description of JERRY GRIFFIN, native of Golden, who stands charged with having, on the 12th July, 1887, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Relickmurry and Athassal, stolen a silver lever watch No. 2,125, maker Gaskin, Dublin. The watch is deficient a glass, second hands and ring, for the latter a piece of wire his been substituted, value £ 2, the property of John M'Glynn :— Has a cast in one eye, slovenly appearance, blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 yeais of age ; wore a black jerry hat, dark coloured tweed coat, trowsers and vest ; is a labourer. Description of SAMUEL M'CUTCHEON, native of Beiagh, who stands charged with having, on the 14th of April, 1886, in the barony of East Omagh, committed wilful and corrupt perjury :— Gray eyes, thin nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore a black cloth coat, trowsers, and vest of American fashion. Omagh, 31st July, 1887. ( 82910 c— 42070.) Westmeath. LAWRENCE CARLEY, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd June, 1887. ( 81753 c.— 40335.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, 6 Division. Description of JOHN T. FLEMING, a rate collector, of 36, Heytesbury- street, and Putland- road, Bray, wanted for embezzlement:— He is about 34 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, very round shoulders, blind of one eye ( supposed the right), fair hair and complexion, slight sandy moustache, chin shaved ; generally dresses in tweed. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superintendent's Office, G Division, 22nd August, 1887. hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nogs. medium mouth, sallow complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high ; ruptured on right side. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, 20th February, 1887, and went to reside at lodgings in Maryboro', which place he left without notifying same to the R. I. Constabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 83 H. c.) Convict JAMES MILLIGAN, A 689, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 29th July, 1887. ( 80 H. C.) ENGLISH POLICE. Cumberland. £ 1 REWARD. Wanted here, charged with deserting his wife and family, on the 11th July 1887, and leaving them chargeable to the Cockermouth Union, WILLIAM HODGSON, alias " FORTY POCKETS," labourer, 32 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light brown hair, slight light moustache, gray eyes, long thin face, a native of Cockermouth; dressed in fustian trowsers and jacket, cord vest, black felt hat, and clogs. May be found at common lodging- houses, and likely to be employed at stables, or carrying parcels for travellers. This man may be accompanied by a woman, named Elizabeth Welsh, about 35 years of age, short and stout, pock- pitted, and has 4 children with her. Kindly make every possible search and enquiry for Hodgson, if found arrest and communicate with Mr. Superintendent TAYLOR, Cockermouth, Cumberland, who holds a Warrant for his apprehension. County Police Office, Cockermouth, July 30, 1887. ( 86 H. C.) £ 10 REWARD. Stolen, between 1 and 6 a. m., on the 10th inst., from the person ot Dr. Redmondi, while asleep in the cabin of the s. s. Silloth, lying in Silloth Dock, viz;— A gold chased hunting watch, No. 21026, " Dent's Chronometer" on dial, and " Makers to the Queen " on works ; a 9- carat gold Albert, round link pattern; one 20- dollar piece, one 50- franc piece, and one old guinea, all gold; value £ 40. By the two men described below :— 1. THOMAS PEARCE, alias TOMMY THE GUESSER, licence holder No. 35 years of age; 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light hazel eyes, fair hair ; is a racing sharp, hotel thief, and member of the ramping mob. Native of Shrews- bury. Particular Marks Scar front of head, blue scar right side of forehead and bridge of nose. Right Side.— Lost top part of fourth finger, scar dais of third finger. Left Side.— Catarrab of left eye. 2. WILLIAM DAVIS, alias GENTLEMAN DAVIS, 29 years of age; 5ft 10 inches high; fair complexion, gray eyes, dark brown hair; is a clerk and betting man ; native of Birmingham. Particular Marks.— Scar centre top of forehead, small scar corner of left eye ; scar nearly centre of left cheek. Both of respectable appearance, betting men, frequent race courses, billiard rooms, and bowling greens. Not to be apprehended unless the property can be traced to their possession. Kindly cause every possible search and enquiry to be made with the view of recovering the property and arresting the thieves, and communicate with Superin- tendent BROWN, who will pay the above reward on the recovery of the property and conviction of the thief or thieves, Constabulary Office. Wigton, Cumberland, 23rd July, 1887. ( 79 H. C.) Hanley. Wanted on Warrant, charged with forging and utter- ing a cheque for £ 30, ALFRED HALL, a native of Stoke- on- Trent, and late of 26, Granville- street, Stoke- on- Trent, by trade a baker, and is well known among bakers in the Potteries:— About 33 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, thin light whiskers and moustache, or may now be shaved, rather round shouldered, thumb of right hand much larger than the other, owing to its having been knocked up and split up the centre through the nail. ' He was last seen in Hanley on Tuesday, the 5th instant, when he was wearing a black hard hat, light tweed jacket and vest, white collar and front, no neck- tie, light cord trowsers, and lace- up boots. It is suspected that lie has left or will endeavour to leave the country. Kindly cause every possible enquiry to be made at shipping- offices, hotels, and all likely places, and if found arrest and wire to HERBERT WINDLE, Chief Constable's Office, Chief Constable. Description of GEORGE HENRY MILNES, alias MARGETSON, whose apprehension is sought wf^. mutilation of boo s and embezzlement:— 50 years of age, 5 leet 10 indies high, stout, complexion very fresh, light brown hair, light side whiskers ( very slight) Longford. Description of DANIEL CASEY, native of Augh- akerin, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 24th July, 1887, in the barony of Moydow, parish of Killashee, seriously assaulted Robert Neary, of Anghnaskea, by striking him on the head with a loaded whip;— Walks with a slight stoop, and generally carries his hands in his trowsers' pockets ; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10| inches high, about 22 or 23 years of age; wore a soft black hat and gray tweed suit; is a metal caster or tinker. Description of MARY M'GORMAN, alias BRIDGET M'CANN, native place unknown, who stands changed with having, on the 24th July, 1887, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, Btolen the following articles, the property of Catherine Flynn ;— One red potticoat, one black cashmere quilted petticoat, ono black stuff caps, trimmed with lace, one green plaid shawl, one black stuff umbrella :— Impedi- ment in speech, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, medium make, .5 feet 2 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair ; wore a white hat, trimmed with cream- coloured lace, with a red flower in front, elastic boots, supposed to be wearing the stolen articles above described; is supposed to be a tramp. Description of JOHN GARVEY, native of Bansha, who stands charged with having, on the 15th of August, 1887, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Templeneiry, been one of a party who attacked the dwelling- house of Edward Mahony, at Grallagh; Blue, eyes, shirt nose, fresh complexion, round face, very stout in ike, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 21 years • of ttj; e ; wore an old black jerry hat, worn dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vests is a labourer. Tipperary, August 17, 1887. Description of WILLIAM RYAN ( mother's surname Nugent), native of Ballyverane, who stands ohprged with having, on the $ nd * of- August, 1887, in the barony or Clanwilliam, parish of Templeneiry, caused the death of Thomas Sweeney, by stabbing hini > vith a hay fork :— Walks with a rather atiff gait, brown eyes, rather large nose, fresh complexion', round face, medium make, 5 feet t> iuctie, s high, nfjout 17 years of age; wore an old black jerry hut, old dark tweed coat, trovsers, and vest; is tt labourer. Tipperary, August 6, 1887. ( 82961 c.— 42224 ) Particulars relative to Convict THOMAS HAY- DEN, A 710, convicted at Dublin, at the Recorder's Court, on 31st March, 1883, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years'penal servitude:— 26 years of age on convic- tion, single, is a draper's assistant; born at Dublin, resided before conviction in Dublin, where his friends reside, Irishtown- road, Dublin; light brown hair, hazel eyes, fair eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 5-£ iriches high; cut scar left side of face, lost two upper front teeth. 1' his man was released from Monntjoy Prison on licence, 2nd April, i887, and went to reside at Irish- town- road. He has recently left his residence without reporting to Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 91 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict JAMES MURPHY alias LAWLOR, who is missing from Maryborough Prison, where he was last seen about 5 o'clock, p. m., on the 16th August, 1887 j convicted at Recorder's Court, borough ot' Belfast, on 26th September, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; is also liable to serve 304 days of a former sentence :— 26 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, married, is a carpenter, prison trade carpenter, resided before conviction ut Belfast, where his friends resiJe; brown hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, large nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 leet 5 inches high; cut scar on top of head; cut mark on little finger left hand ; mark on left leg, and two on breast; cut mark on second toe, left foot. NOTICE— A money reward not exceeding £ 5 may be paid to any person who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected his escape from a Government prison. Application to be made to the General Prisons Board, Dublin Castle. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by any means whatever aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be guilty of felony, and oeing convicted thereof, shall be kept in penal servitude for any term not less than 6 nor more than 8 years. A native of Huddersllcld. Was formerly a schoolmaster, but lately employoil as cashier to a woollen manufacturer. Warrant issued. Central Office, Borough Police Station, Huddersfield, July 23, 1887. ( 88 H. C.) Newport ( Mon). £ 10 REWARD. Description of TWO MEN, supposed to be foreign- ers ( names unknown), wanted in this borough, charged on warrant with stealing two hundred pounds in notes and gold, by means of a trick, on 12th August, 1887. The notes were £ 5 Bank of England. No. 0* NOTE. PLACE OF ISSUE. Native of Florence. Speaks fairly good English. 2nd. About 30 years of age, about 5ft. 7 or 8 inches high, very stout, corpulant, full round face, clear ruddy complexion, very light bn WH hair— cut short, light brown moustilche, no whiskers, and blue eyes, nice appearance, and had a rather rollicking walk. Dressed in navy blue ribbed cloth suit, and black bowler hat, new elastic side boots of small size. Wore a very large mourning ring with cameo stone with raised figure on it, stone of ring large— almost covering the third joint of fourth finger left hand. Is an Italian, but has the appearance of a Norweigan or German, and appeared not to be ablo to speak English. • Ten Pounds reward will be given on apprehension and conviction of the above men. He was liberated from Borstal prison on licence on the 25th day of June, 1887; sentence expires on 28th June, 1888. He left Kendal on the 15th July, 1887, and stated that it was his intention of removing to Manchester, but he has failed to report his arrival there. One of the rings unrecovered:— Gold mourning finger ring, suitable for hair, set with pearls, and the words " In Memory Of" in centre. Absconded on 22nd ult. Description of a man wanted at Rochdale, on a charge of stealing a large sum of money, the property of his employers " Tho Corporation of Rochdale": JOSEPH SCOTT HARESCEUGH, clerk and traveller, 29 years of ago, 5ft. 6 or 7in. high, gray eyes, fair complexion, light brown hair ; he is very dull of hearing and near sighted, he often wears spectacles, especially so when reading; clean and smart in appear- ance. He was dressed when last seen, in a black coat and vest, dark mixture trowsers and billy- cock hat, and a light drab overcoat. He was last heard of in Leeds on the 14th June. He is a native of Rochdale — his father was at one time manager of the manure department there. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
