All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue-* nd- Ory are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated, by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- GeneraL Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession. •„• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Ory, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fec., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 1887. NOTICE. The composition of the Hue- and- Cry will he found arranged for easy reference as follows:— ( a.) Regulations on top of first page, ( b.) Apprehensions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. ANtrim. Description of TWO PERSONS, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 5th August, 1887, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish ol Kirkinriola, obtained a gold watch, chain, and diamond cut gold brooch and ear- rings, by false pretences, all value for £ 9 10s :— 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair, dark moustache, beard, and whiskers; wore a black cloth coat, light tweed trowsers, and black cloth vest; dressed as a clergy- man, with low soft black hat. Has been in America, and will likely endeavour to return there ; apparently a clergyman. 2. Red birth mark on left side of neck, gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a white straw hat trimmed with white lace, and cream coloured silk dress; wife of above. The Police at Ballymena hold a Warrant ior arrest of both the above. Ballymena, August 8, 1887. ( 83040 o.— 42272.) onrn Description of JAMES WALLS, native of Randalstown, who stands charged with having, on the 5th of August, 1887, in tho barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Donegore, attempted to commit a rape on one Roseanna M'Millen, of Donegore: Round shoulders, dark eyes, aquiline nose, dark complexion, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a low hard hat, gray coat, dark tf> wsers, patches on knees ; is a labourer. The Royal f'ish Constabulary at Templepatrick hold a Warrant ' or. his arrest. . ntrim, August 6, 1887. ( 83005 c.— 42222.) the barony of Upper Glenarm, parish of Larne, unlaw- fully and carnally known Hessie Allen, a girl under the age of thirteen years:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a guernsey coat, gray striped trowsers and vest; is a sailor. Description of PATRICK ROONEY, native place not known, WILLIAM HENRY DEACON, native of Glasgow, JOHN M'DONNELL, WILLIAM LEE, EDWARD BARRY, native places not known, and JOHN JAMESON, native of Dublin, who stand charged with having, on the 30th July, 1887, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, stolen the sum of twenty sovereigns, from the house of John M'Gann of Market- street, Ennis :— 1. Bald on top of head, slightly round shoulders, smart appearance, wore all his beard clipped rather close, turning gray, gray moustache, dark blue eyes, cocked nose, pale complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair ; wore a round hard black hat, rather long black coat, trowsers, and vest. 2. Scar on bridge of nose, bald on top of head smart appearance, dark side whiskers turning gray, clipped close, shaves his chin, dark moustache, dark eyes, hooked nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair turning gray ; wore a brown soft hat ( American style), tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 3. Lost some teeth from front of mouth, dark brown moustache, sullen looking, dark piercing eyes, sallow complexion, thin face, active make, 5 feet inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a round black hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 4. Round shoulders, rather short neck, small fair moustache, gray eyes, thin nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, wore a round black hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 5. Small fair moustache, small gray eyes, slight nose, fair complexion, regular face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a round black hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. 6. Very small fair moustache, blue eyes, short cocked nose, fair complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair ; wore a round hard black bat, light coloured dust coat, striped tweed trowsers, and vest. These six men returned for trial on 5th August. Any information regarding them, including previous convictions, to be addressed to District Inspector at Ennis. Ennis, August 7, 1887. Description of MICHAEL BROWN, native of Knockduff Upper, who stands charged with having, on the 9th April, 1887, at Curragh, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Clonfert, with others committed or attempted to commit a rape upon Ellen Roche, and being required to give bail for his appearance at next Cork Assizes, failed to do so and has absconded:— Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 28 years of age, black hair; wore a soft black hat. frieze coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer. Description of WILLIAM BECK ( mother's surname Greenway,") native of Coolnacran, county Down, who stands charged with having, on the 21st June, 1887, at Coolnacran, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Aghaderg. in the county of Down, indecently assaulted Mary Hall, a child under 15 years of age :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark coat, gray tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a weaver. Description of TWO MEN names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 4th day of July, 1887, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Kilgobbin, stolen a cow ( since recovered) from off the lands of Judge Darly, Newtown Little, the property of William Webster, Fernhill, Kilgobbin :— 1. Sore or reddish eyes, sandy complexion, medium makei 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, wore a jerry hat, dark old gray tweed coat; corner boy appearance. 2. Appeared to have weak eyes, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, about 20 years of age, slight sandy moustache; wore a jerry hat, dark clothes. Dundrum, July 12, 1887. Description of PATT M'DONAGH, MICHAEL M'DONAGH, anil MARTIN M'DONAGH, natives of Rusheenamonagh, who stand charged with having, on the lst of August, 1887, in the barony of Ballina- hinch, parish of Moyrus, seriously assaulted one Stephen Bourke, thereby placing his life in danger:— ^ 1. Has fresh cut marks on head, which he received in tho row with Bourke, gray eyes, long thin nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, brown tweed trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. 2. May have fresh cut marks on head which he received in the row with Bourke, dark eyes, regular noso, dark comploxion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. 3. Blue eyes, regular nose, fitir complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a Conneinara tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of TERENCE NEILL, native of Crutt, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd August, 1887, in the barony of Fassadinnen, parish of Castle- comer, seriously assaulted Bartholomew Kiely, of Clough, by striking him on the forehead with a stone, fracturing his skull, and thereby placing his life in danger:— Good looking, brown or gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 23 years of age, slight fair whiskers and moustache; is a farmer's son. Description of ROBERT WALSHE ( mother's surname Meade), native of Waterford city, who stands charged with having, on the 18th March, 1886, in the barony of Brawney, parish of Saint Mary's, deserted his wife and four children, which have since been chargeable to the rates of the Tullamore Union : — Pockpitted, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; journeyman harness maker. Description of ATTY DONAGHY ( mother's surname Kidd), native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of March, 1887, in the barony of N. W. Liberties, parish of Templemore, stolen a sweeping machine, the property of George Hasson:— Hole on right cheek, anchor, heart, chain and some letters tattooed on both arms, dark eyes, short nose, dark complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 30 or 35 years of age, brown hair, small brown moustache; wore a black silk cap, no coat, dark trowsers, moleskin vest; is a tramp sweep. It is thought that he is tramping through the adjoining counties. Londonderry, August 6, 1887. ( 83003 c 42218.) Description of PATRICK CASSIDY, native of Moyheeland, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of August, 1887, in the barony of Loughin- shollen, parish of Ballinascreen, seriously stabbed one Peter M'Gurk with a knife, thereby endangering his life:— Large ears, red lips, largo hooked nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft hat, gray coat, and white trowsers ; is a labourer. A Warrant lor his arrest is in the^ iands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Draperstown. Magherafelt, August 7, 1887. ( 82999 o.— 42219.) Description of JAMES SMYTH, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 23rd or morning of 24 th July, 1887, in the barony of N. W. Liberties of Londonderry, parish of Templemore, burglariously broke out of a lodging house, taking with him a suit of gray tweed and a shirt, all value £ 1 10s. the coat, frock make with flaps on sides but no pockets:— Tattoo marks of a ring, each on two fingers, and tattooing on arms, lame from a blister on the heel; dark eyes, regular nose, dark comploxion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 years ofage, dark hair and moustache, no whiskers; wore a peaked cap with tassel, gray tweed frock coat, trowsers, and vest, small laced shoes; believed to be wearing the stolen clothes which are too big for him, is a tramp ; believed to be a discharged soldier, Londonderry, 25 July, 1887. Longford, Description of DANIEL CASEY, native of Augh akerin, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 24tlx July, 1887, in the barony of Moydow, parish of Killashee, seriously assaulted Robert Neary, of Aughnaskea, by striking him on the head with a loaded whip ;— Walks with a slight stoop, and generally carries his hands in his trowsers' pockets; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10^ inches high, about 22 or 23 years of age; wore a soft black hat and gray tweed suit; is a metal caster or tinker. Description of MARY M'GORMAN, alias BRIDGET M'CANN, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1887, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Mouaghan, stolen the following articles, the property of Catherine Flynn :— One red petticoat, one black cashmere quilted petticoat, one black stuff cape, trimmed with lace, one green plaid shawl, one black stuff umbrella :— Impedi- ment in speech, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair ; wore a white hat, trimmed with cream- coloured lace, with a red flower in front, elastic boots, supposed to be wearing the stolen articles above described; is supposed to be a tramp. Description of two itinerant tinkers named M'DONAGH, native places unknown, who stand charged with having on the 5th July, 1887, in the barony of Leyney, parish of Ballisodare, stolen a pair of car wheels the property of Daniel M'Gloin ;— 1. Flat, nose, swarthy complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 70 years of age, gray hair; wore knee trowsers, and long gray stockings. 2. Dark complexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 years of age, black hair. Collooney, July 13, 1887. ( 82600 c 41582.) Tipperary. Description of DAVID CLEARY, alias THOMAS MASSICKS, native of Ballyroe Upper, who stands charged with having, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Nenagh, failed to report himself to the Police on change of residence, he being under Police Super- vision for 5 years from 20th February, 1885 ( see Hue and- Cry, 14th August, 1885, under Dublin Police, and that of 13th October, 1885, under Limerick):— Two moles on left wrist, and one on right of belly, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 7| inches high, about 28 years of age, brown hair: wore a tweed cap which could lap over the ears, brown coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Nenagh, August 8, 1887. ( 83071 0— 42318.) a Description of WILLIAM RYAN ( mother's t surname Nugent), native of Ballyverane, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd of August, 1887, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Templeneiry, caused the death of Thomas Sweeney, by stabbing him with a hay fork :— Walks with a rather stiff gait, brown eyes, rather large nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 17 years of age; wore an old black jerry hat, old dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of JERRY GRIFFIN, native of Golden, who stands charged with having, on the 12th July, 1887, in the barony of Clanwilliatn, parish of Relickmurry and Athassal, stolen a silver lever watch No. 2,125, maker Gaskin, Dublin. The watch is deficient a glass, second hands and ring, for the latter a piece of wire has been substituted, value £ 2, the property of John M'Glynn :— Has a cast in one eye, slovenly appearance, blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 yeais ofage ; wore a blac, k jerry hat, dark coloured tweed coat, trowsers and vest ; is a labourer. Description of SAMUEL M'CUTCHEON, native of Beiagh, who stands charged with having, on the 14th of April, 1886, in the barony of East Omagh, committed wilful and corrupt perjury :— Gray eyes, thin nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium makey 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore a black cloth coat, trowsers, and vest of American fashion. Omagh, 31st July, 1887. ( 82910 c— 42070.) Westmeath. LAWRENCE CARLEY, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd June, 1887. ( 81753 c 40335.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, G Division. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN BURNS, convicted at Downpatrick, county Down Assizes, 17th March, 1883, for uttering base coin, and previous conviction for like offence, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude:— 63 years of age on conviction; read; Roman Catholic ; widower; is a labourer; born in Ballybay, county Monaghan; resided before convic- tion in Newry, his friends reside in Newry; gray hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, worn visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high ; ruptured on right side. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, 20th February, 1887, and went to reside at lodgings in Maryboro', which place he left without notifying same to the R. l. Constabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 83 h. C.) Convict JAMES MILLIGAN, A 689, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 29th July, 1887. ( 80 H. c.) ENGLISH POLICE. Cumberland. £ 1 REWARD. Wanted here, charged with deserting his wife and family, on the 11th July 1887, and leaving them chargeable to the Cockermouth Union, WILLIAM HODGSON, alias " FORTY POCKETS," labourer, 32 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light brown hair, slight light moustache, gray eyes, long thin face, a native of Cockermouth; dressed in fustian trowsers and jacket, cord vest, black felt hat, and clogs. May be found at common lodging- houses, and likely to be employed at stables, or carrying parcels for travellers. This man may be accompanied by a woman, named Elizabeth Welsh, about 35 years of age, short and stoul pock- pitted, and has 4 children with her. Kindly make every possible search and enquiryJfor Hodgson, if found arrest and communicate with Superintendent TAYLOR, Cockermouth, Cumberlan who holds a Warrant for his apprehension. Stolen, between 1 and 6 a. m., on the 10th inst., from the person ot Dr. Redmondi, while asleep in the cabin of the s. s. Silloth, lying in Silloth Dock, viz :— A gold chased hunting watch, No. 21026, " Dent's Chronometer" on dial, and " Makers to the Queon " on works ; a 9- carat gold Albert, round link pattern; one 20- dollar piece, one 50- franc piece, and one old guinea, all gold ; value £ 40. By the two men described below :— 1. THOMAS PEARCE, alias TOMMY THE GUESSER, licence holder No. „'„, 35 years of age; 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light hazel eyes, fair hair ; is a racing sharp, hotel thief, and member of the ramping mob. Native of Shrews- bury. Parlicular Marks Scar front of head, blue scar right side of forehead and bridge of nose. Right Side.— Lost top part of fourth finger, scar dais of third finger. Left Side.— Catarrah of left eye. 2. WILLIAM DAVIS, alias GENTLEMAN DAVIS, 29 years of age; 5ft 10 inches high; fair complexion, gray eyes, dark brown hair; is a clerk and betting man ; native of Birmingham. Particular Marka— Scar centre top of forehead, small scar corner of left eye ; scar nearly centre of left cheek. Both of respectable appearance, betting men, frequent race courses, billiard rooms, and bowling greens. Not to bo apprchen led unless the property can be traced to their possession. Kindly cause every possible search and enquiry to be made with the view of recovering the property and arresting tho thieives, atjd communicate with Superin- tendent BROWN, who will pay the above reward on the recovery of the property and conviction of the thief or thieves, Constabulary Office. Wigton, Cumberland, 23rd July, 1887. ( 79 H. C.) Hanley. Wanted on Warrant, charged with forging and utter- ing a cheque for £ 30, ALFRED HALL, a native of Stoke- on- Trent, and late of 26, Granville- street, Stoke- on- Trent, by trade a baker, and is well known among bakers in the Potteries:— About 33 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, thin light whiskers and moustache, or may now be shaved, rather round shouldered, thumb of right hand much larger than the other, owing to its having been knocked up and split up the centre through the nail. He was last seen in Hanley on Tuesday, the 5th instant, when he was wearing a black hard hat, light tweed jacket and vest, white collar and front, no neck- tie, light cord trowsers, and lace- up boots. It is suspected that ho has left or will endeavour to leavr the country. Kindly cause every possible enquiry to be made at shipping- offices, hotels, and all likely places, and if found arrest and wire to HERBERT WINDLE, Chief Constable's Office, Chief Constable. Description of a man wanted at Rochdale, on a chargo of stealing a largo sum of money, the property of his employers " Tho Corporation of Rochdale" :— JOSEPH SCOTT HARESCEUGH, clerk and traveller, 29 yoars of age, 5ft. 6 or 7in. high, gray eyes, fair complexion, light brown hair ; he is very dull of hearing and near sighted, he often wears spectacles, especially so when reading; clean and smart in appear- ance. He was dressed when last seen, in a black coat and vest, dark mixture trowsers and billy- cock hat, and a light Arab overcoat. He was last heard of in Leeds on thf 14th June. He is a native of Rochdale — his father Was at one time manager of the manure department threro. Description of EDWARD PHILLIP CONNOLLY, wanted upon Warrant, at Burton- on- Trent, in this county, charged with stealing from an hotel there one Gladstone bag ( black), containing one dozen linen handkerchiefs, one dozen linen collars, one night- shirt, marked " Frederick Goodeve," one tobacco pipe ( wood) and pouch, one comb and brush, a large pocket- book, and 3 cheques, 1st for £ 5, drawn by Clarke, Derby; 2nd for £ 2 4s. 6d. or £ 2 Os. 6c?., drawn by Raynes, Stoke- on- Trent; also one for about £ 2, all made payable to " Hill and Underwood," the two latter crossed. Bank unknown. He is 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, gray eyes, fresh complexion, dark hair and moustache, whiskers shaved ofl. He was formerly in the Army, then Boots at Mrs. Moore's Hotel, Kilkee, Clare, in name of Patrick Connelly. Dressed when last seen in small check tweed suit, and low black felt hat. Previously convicted of hotel robberies at North- ampton, October, 1881; at Rugby, January, 1882; and at Wolverhampton, August, 1882. No. J. 328, HECTOR M'NEIL alias ANDREW PHILLIPS, who is wanted by the Kendal Borough Police, for failing to report:— 32 years of age, 5 feet 1 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, proportionate figure, oval face ; a labourer and a native of Liverpool. Marks :— Scar left side of head and bridge of nose; Right Side— Small scar side elbow, one blue dot, boil marks side ribs, scar shoulder- blade and middle finger; Left Side— Vaccination marks, birth stain below breast, circular scar and small one on hip and mole. He was liberated from Borstal prison on licence on the 25th day of June, 1887; sentence expires on 28th June, 1888. He left Kendal on the 15th July, 1887, and stated that it was his intention of removing to Manchester, but he has failed to report his arrival there. One of the rings unrecovered :— Gold mourning finger ring, suitable for hair, set with pearls, and the words " In Memory Of" in centre. Absconded on 22nd ult.
