THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE." Go back in history to the time when the cry came out in the London streets, " Bring out your dead ! Bring out your dead ! " That was the PJague of London. Suppose there had been a man anywhere in London who had found out a medicine that would heal the plague. To his surprise and amazement, when he was dying of the plague, he put the phial to his lips and recovered. He has found out all about it, he has known it for weeks, and he has gone into the streets and never told anybody ! His wife is dying, his children getting stark and stiff, and all those multitudes stricken, and he has never told them ! Why, if he were human, he would rush and tell all of the remedy ; if he were not possessed of an evil spirit he would make it known from end to end of the city that people could be cured. I need not translate this parable. The Empress Helena, it is said, being anxious to discover the Cross on which Christ was crucified, had the hill of Calvary dug up, and the three crosses taken from the ground where they were buried. In order to ascertain which was Christ's, they brought a dead man and laid him first on one cross and then on another. When they laid him on the true cross he came to life again. This is an invention, but there is a sublime truth in it. Take the Cross of Christ into the homes of the people : they, too, will live. The remedy for the plague- stricken is found. Keep to the Gospel story. Do not leave Jesus Christ out. We need a garrison for Christ in this vast city. London is no Christian city. He who knows it best will weep over it most. We cannot go into any class of society without feeling that the notion of the total destruction of original sin, or the wonderful improvement of it, is flatly contradicted by facts. We are born, under awful responsibility. Oh, that every one would ask himself, " To what purpose was I born and for what end have I come into the world 1" Have I looked at that Cross? Have I received life? If so, have I told others of the remedy ? SPURGEON. TflDDY'S HIGH- CLASS TOBACCOS, ALL SMOKERS SHOULD TRY TADDY'S UNRIVALLED MTETLE GKOYE. Delicious, Cool Smoking.
