SIMPLE THOUGHTS ABOUT RAILWAYS. The first thing to be well laid and constructed is the permanent way. The rails, the sleepers, the tunnels, the embankments, the points, the switches must all be of the very best. The permanent way to glory is laid by God Himself, and by the Spirit of God, through the Word of God. We can see the spiritual railroad, the line stretching from earth to Heaven ; the terminus is in the glory land. If you want to get on this railway, you must come to Jesus, who is the way. The station has one word carved over the entrance, " Repentance." " Repent ye and believe the Gospel." Have you repented 1 What is it 1 Sorrow for sin ? Yes ; and some- thing else, the forsaking of sin. You ask for a ticket. It is stamped and handed to you; and then, as you feel in your pocket in agony, you are told " nothing to pay." Salvation full. Salvation free. Salvation not only from the penalty but from the power and presence of sin. Salvation not only through the blood of a dying Christ, but through the life'of a risen Christ. Is yours a first- class ticket? Yes; the very lest Clirist gives you. And so, stepping into the train, you give yourself up to Jesus. Some people are very much puzzled as to what this is. When I travel from Portsmouth to London, I get into the train at Portsmouth and remain their until I get out in London. If you ( give yourself to Him, He will fill you with Himself— you will be no longer selfish. He will destroy that and make you unselfish ; you will be no longer ill tempered. Christ will not live with ill- temper. Is He not a glorious Saviour 1 He is the Way and He is the Train. Iso fear, in Him, of running oil' the line. Sometimes you get into a tunnel; some sorrow, some trial, some temptation comes; as Jesus says, " To you it is given on my behalf, not only to believe but also to suffer." And now the train is slackening speed ; you are getting your things together ; the journey is nearly over, almost at home ; and the train steams into the terminus ; and One stands there who died for us, who rose for us, who lived in us, who brought us home and welcomes us to His Father's Home.
