How hard it is to realise that He loves us at high- pressure always. Nature won't oeiieve it; iaith staggers under it. We look at His dealings with us, and they are l? ° tir nnderstanding, so we wisely conclude that He does not love us quite so , as He says. But Faith looks at His doings for us, the devoted, self- sacrificing love ot the cross, and the mists roll away and all is plain. God will let His love be Known more in acts than in words. Words are not wanting, as St. John's Gospel snows ; but they are not the foreground, and I think it is a lesson for us to dwell more tnan we do on the actions and ways of God, for in general people content tnemselves very much with pet passages, " nice " chapters, and thus they are not reaiiy rooted and grounded in love as they would be if they studied His ways and uoings more.
