REGULATIONS- x All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THB POLICE GAZETTE, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. <*> In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, an i the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of \ tolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature qfan officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. g Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and an alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents, or stolen property to be inserted to the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in lie next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They mus\ be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Great Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Brummond $ Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Nr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. i.— Woodcut Portrait and description of THOMAf WILLIAM CURRELL, whose apprehension is sought on suspicion of hay- ing- caused the death of Lydia Green, at No. 8, Baches- street, City- road, 011 5th inst.; age 33, height 5 ft, 6 in., complexion fresli, small mole in right ear, hair dark, slight side whiskers, moustache and tuft on chin sandy ; dress, dark blue Chester- field overcoat, black hard felt hat ( mourning band), dark or check trousers, respectable appearance. Has been employed at a sponge merchant's. Was formerly a Corporal in the Royal Middlesex Fusiliers, Has undergone 9 months' imprisonment in 18T1 for stealing a cheque, and was convicted in August, 1883, and sentenced to 2 years' hard labour; lately resided at 22, Fanshaw Street, Hoxton ; is well known at High Barnet, and has relations at Hampstead, Middlesex^ and Baldock, Herts. Supposed to be suffering from congestion of the lungs, and may apply at chemists or at a dispensary. Police are requested to make enquiries at Hospitals, Dispensaries, Workhouses, and Casual Wards, as being without means Currell is likely to apply at those places for assistance or relief. W, 2 T H E P O L I C E G A Z E T T E, METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 2.— Central Office.— For misappropriating £ 6,716 10s. 2d., the moneys of a public company, of which they were directors— DANIEL WILLIAM HOWARD HAYWOOD, age 43, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair inclined to curl, and moustache long and very dark, walks smartly, of gentlemanly appearance ; dress, dark clothes ; a floor- cloth manu- facturer, late of Ormley- house, Campbell- road, West Croydon, and Newington- causeway. Has friends at Folkestone. May endeavour to leave the country.— CHARLES HAYWOOD, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache ( slight) dark brown, gentlemanly appearance ; dress, dark clothes, and long brown ulster. Lately resided at 14, Airlie- gardens, Kensington, and Newington- causeway. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, Great Scotland- yard, London, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 3.— For embezzlement— ARTHUR FISHER, a clerk, late of 18, Lorne- road, Sfcroud- green, London, age 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, pockpitted, hair and moustache brown; dress, dark overcoat, black frock under ditto, dark trousers, round felt hat. Absconded 11th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector McWilliams, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. BERKSHIRE. £ 5 REWARD 4.— Wokingham ( County).— Escaped from Broad- moor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, 25th ult.— MICHAEL KELLY, alias RICHARD IVES or IVERS, age about 29, height 5 ft. 9J in., slight, complexion fair, hair dark brown, moustache slight, eyes light blue, black mole middle of back, circular depression left nipple ; dress, dark grey jacket and vest, light tweed or cord trousers, white soft felt hat or dark blue cap with peak, linen shirt, lamb's- wool under ditto, part of clothing marked " Broadmoor." Wore a silver watch and silver ring on third finger right hand. Was formerly a soldier in the Grenadier Guards and in the Cheshire Regiment. Converses rationally. May endeavour to go to Boston, United States. The above reward will be paid by Dr. Nicolson, Superintendent, Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, for such information as will lead to Kelly's arrest. CHESHIRE. 5.— Runcorn ( County).— For stealing a black- and- white mixture tweed jacket ( repaired on right arm), and a'black hard felt hat— JOHN BOLTON, ( supposed false), age about 29, height about 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache light, side whiskers very slight; dress, pepper- and- salt mix- ture coat, dark cardigan jacket ( without sleeves), brown plaid trousers. Obtained lodgings by stating he was employed by the London and North- Western Railway Company, but decamped early next morning taking with him the stolen articles. 6.— Runcorn ( County).— For failing to report- Supervisee THOMAS CARRINGTON, Office No. 31555, age 30, height 5 ft. 9| in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar left eyebrow, burn scar right arm, scar left elbow. Sentenced at Preston, 7th April, 1886, to 6 months' hard labour and 3 years' police supervision for larceny. 3478— 14. Information to Supt. Hollingwcrth, Runcorn. 7.— Stockport ( Borough).— For stealing £ 18 gold, 7th inst.— A WOMAN who gave the name of ELIZA- BETH, age about 35, low set, complexion fresh, hair ( plaited behind) light, ears slit; dress, plain black jacket, yellow skirt ( faded), straw hat turned up all round, imitation silk handkerchief round neck, fastened with common brooch, " A Mite" thereon. A prosti- tute ; stated she was formerly a publican in Birken- head. May be found at common lodging- houses. Information to Lieut.- Colonel Staples, Chief Con- stable, Stockport. CUMBERLAND. 8.— Penrith ( County).- For failing to report— Supeivisee ELLEN WARD alias McCORNICK, Office No. 31566, age 54, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion light, hair grey ( wavy), eyes blue, scars each side fore- head, over both eyes, back of each wrist and back of right arm, right little finger deformed. Sentenced at Preston, 7th April, 1886, to 6 months' hard labour and 3 years' police supervision for larceny. 1063- 1. Information to Supt. iowler, Penrith. DENBIGHSHIRE. 9— Denbigh ( County).— For night poaching and assault, 2nd inst.- EDWARD ROBERTS, age 33 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( slight) light, eyes blue, round full face, star tattooed back of each hand. Has been a sailor.— ISAAC EDWARDS, age 31, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, whiskers and moustache light ( may have shaved), eyes blue, star back of left hand, slightly round- shouldered.— ED- WARD WYNNE, age 21, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair black, moustache ( slight) and eyes dark, scald marks on chest, left arm dislocated at elbow, hand deformed. All notorious poachers, and frequent Flintshire, Carnarvonshire, and Merionethshire. Are now on their way to South Wales from Festiniog. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Vaughan, Denbigh. DERBYSHIRE. 10.— Woodville ( County).— For stealing at Wins- hill, 5th inst., a silver Geneva watch, No. 90154, with imitation jet albert and locket attached, and 2 puises with steel clasps— A MAN, who called and stated he wanted to see the water cistern ; age about 22, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, thin face, sharp nose ; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat; carried a small book in his hand. Information to Supt. Sims, Woodvillc, Burton- on- Trent. 11.— Derby ( Borough).— For stealing £ 202 3s.— SAMUEL CHARLES JOSEPH WOODWARD, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( frizzy), moustache ( slight), and few side whiskers dark, deep pockmark on one cheek ( supposed left), thick neck, round face. Has been a solicitor's clerk ; is an expert shorthand writer, and may commence business as a writing master. Absconded about 15th ult., but before leaving had some cards printed, " Charles Le Lachem, Professional Shorthand Writer, Argyle- square, Lon- don." Not to be apprehended beyond the United Kingdom. HEREFORDSHIRE. 13.— B romyard ( County).— For stealing a silver verge watch, No. 17514, maker " David Mortimer, Hereford"— A MAN, age 43, height 5 ft. 9 in., com plexion fresh, hair, whisker- i, and moustache dark brown, eyes blue; dress, grey overcoat, dark vest, cord trousers, dark soft billycock hat. A native of Clee Hill, Shropshire. Sometimes works as a labourer, and as a collector of rags, bones, and rabbit skins. Information to Supt. Ovens, Bromyard. LANCASHIRE. 14.— Bury ( County).— For failing to report- License Holder JOHN WILLIAMS, Office No. 31890, age 50, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar on forehead, bridge of nose, and back of neck, 3rd and 4th left fingers damaged. Sentenced at Stafford, 1st January, 1883, to 5 years' penal servi- tude for larceny ( person). Licensed 6th December, 1886. J 78. Information to Supt. Henderson, Bury. 15.— Pern berton [ County).— For embezzling £ 130, 25th ult.— JOSEPH TAYLOR, age 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue ; dress, dark clothes, billycock hat, of gentlemanly appearance. A native of St. Helens, Lancashire. Not to be apprehended beyond the United Kingdom. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Heywood, Pemberton, near Wigan. 16.— Liverpool ( City).— For failing to report- License Holder WILLIAM SHEPHERD, Office No. 32088, age 39, height 5 ft. 31 in., complexion fresb, hair brown, eyes hazel, both shins injured, blue scar between eyes and bridge of nose. Sentenced at Leicester 30th October, 1882, to five years' penal servi- tude for burglary. Licensed 31st December, 1886. I 933. Information to the Chief Supt., Detective Depart- ment, Liverpool. 17.— Accrington ( Borough).— For stealing, be- tween 27th and 29th ult., a black leather purse, American patent fastener, containing 30s. gold and silver ; a silver ring, set black stone with white mark across; and a silver match- box, with cigar- cutter at one end— JOHN RUTTER, age about 22, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, mous- tache slight, full face; dress, brown plaid jacket and trousers, stand- up collar, side- spring boots, billycock hat. Has been in the army, and employed as tram conductor and brewer's drayman at Accrington and Manchester.— ALICE RUTTER, age about 22, height 4 ft. 10 in. to 5 ft., complexion pale, hair dark brown, full face, advanced in pregnancy ; dress, black jacket ( too large) pockets on hips, black skirt, kilting on bottom, and two crossed pieces of silk with beads and bow on each side, black necktie, and bonnet trimmed new crape. Information to Chief Constable Beattie, Accrington. 18.— Salford ( Borough).— For obtaining a suit of clothes by false pretences— THOMAS THORNTON ( supposed false), age 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, squints slightly, speaks French fluently ; dress, brown suit, hard felt hat, of gentlemanly appearance. NORFOLK. 19.— Loddon ( County).— For failing to report- License Holder GEORGE BRADY, alias EDWARD RICHES, Office No. 31949, age 40, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scars inside 3rd right finger and outride each forearm'. Sentenced at Great Yarmouth, 1st January, 1883, to 5 years' penal servitude for felony. Licensed 14th December 1886 V J 253. Information to Superintendent Riches, Loddon. NORTHUMBERLAND. 20.— Newcastle- on- Tyne ( City).— For failing to report— License Holder RICHARD HAYES, age 45, height 5 ft. G in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue, anchor, bracelet, heart, cross, and R. H. left forearm, bracelet right wrist, D left breast. Sentenced at Cork 15th November, 1882, to 5 years' penal servi- tude for larceny. Information to the Chief- Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne. SOMERSETSHIRE. 21.— Taunton ( County).— For stealing a light dust coat— A MAN, who gave the name of " MURCH," age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion, hair ( inclined to curl and parted in centre), and moustache dark ; dress, dark jacket suit. Is also wanted at Dorchester for stealing a timepiece, 21st ult. Information to Supt. Jeffs, Taunton. STAFFORDSHIRE. 22.— Brownhills ( County).— For stealing a lady's silver lever watch, No. 27445, a black cord jacket, and a red morocco leather purse, cross fastenings, contain- ing £ 3 16s., 4th inst.— THOMAS ANDERSON, age 23, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fair, hair . light brown, no whiskers or moustache, eyes grey, very full moutb, and thick lips ; dress, black cord coat and vest, dark grey cloth trousers, side- spring boots with patent toecaps, black hard felt hat. A native of Darlaston. Information to Supt. Barrett, Brownhills, Walsall. £ 1 REWARD. 23.— Burslem ( County).— Absconded from Bed- fordshire Reformatory School, 3rd inst.— WILLIAM JACKSON, age 18, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, oval face, scar over left eye, moles left^ side of face ; dress, dark pilot; double- breasted jacket, calico shirt, blue worsted stockings ( new), lace boots, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Mr. Jones, Bedfordshire Reformatory Schcol, for his appre- hension. Information to Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem. 24.— Leek ( County).— For housebreaking at Dens- ton, Uttoxeter— WILLIAM WOOD, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, W. DOUGLAS, alias MITCHELL, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion and hair ( curly and parted in centre) dark, coarse skin, red nose; dress, dark cloth jacket suit, hard felt hat, may be wearing alight dust coat. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 30.— Bridgend ( County).— Remanded till 15th inst. for larceny— JOHN DAYIES, supposed false, age 46, height 5 ft. in , complexion dark, hair ( bald on top and turning grey) and side whiskers dark brown, eyes hazel, scar over left eyebrow; states he is an hotel servant and native of Handsworth, near Birmingham. Had in his possession 2 pawntickets for coats pawned in Liverpool in names of Frederick Willahan and A. Lewis. Supposed previously con- victed. Information to Superintendent Thomas, Bridgend. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 31.— Chipping Sodbury ( County). — Sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment for larceny.— EDWIN EVANS, age 31, height 5 ft. 6| in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, eyes grey ; two women, J. S., and bird tattooed left arm, bird on right; dress, corduroy sleeve vest, very broad cord trousers, odd boots, black billycock hat. A native of Gloucester.— JOSEPH BROOKS, age 34, height 5 ft. 6| in, com- plexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes hazel; dress, long dark overcoat, dark trousers and vest, lace boots, black felt hat. HAMPSHIRE" 32.— Aldershot ( County).— Sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment for larceny- HARRY SEARLE, age 21 height 5 ft. 2} in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown eyes hazel, two boil marks on back, indistinct tattoo marks both arms ; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, dark cord trousers, side- sprir. g boots. A bricklayer. States he lodged at 3, Penny Bank Buildings, Clerken well- road, London.— JOHN PAYTON, age 18, height 5 ft. 5} in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, large mole left buttock, scar left hip and left thigh ; dress, brown covert coat, dark check under ditto, and trousers, grey tweed vest, lace boots, labourer; states he lodged along with Searle. Sup posed wanted for other offences. Information to Supt. Brinson, Aldershot. LANCASHIRE. 33.— Manchester ( City).— Remanded till 15th inst. for stealing a cash- box from a public- house— WILLIAM WATSON TURNBULL, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes brown, large crimson birthmark left cheek, two moles right cheek and one left, scar right shin ; dressed as a bet- ting man. Information to Detective Superintendent Hicks Manchester. LINCOLNSHIRE, 34.— Spalding ( County).— Remanded till 15th inst for larceny— JAMES MARBILLI, age 35, height 5 ft 7 in , complexion dark, hair and moustache black, eyes dark brown ; dress, long drab overcoat, dark cloth suit, low shoes, brown felt hat ( all old). A dramatic singer and reciter, but of late has been tramping the country singing at hotels. A native of Edinburgh, but states he is of Italian birth. Supposed previously convicted. Was accompanied by a woman carrying a young child in her arms. Information to Supt. Jarvis, Spalding. SOMERSETSHIRE. 35.— Taunton ( County)— Remanded for larceny ( till) [ at Wellington, 5th inst.— WILLIAM HOLE, age 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair ( bald on top) dark, moustache ( heavy) brown, eyes grey, scar left gide of forehead and right cheek, mole left cheek- bone A fitter ; native of Bristol.
