DUBLIN, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1# 86. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 50 REWARD. STOLEN from a railway carriage at Ringley- road Railway Station, at 12.50 P. M., on tbe 17th instant, a black leather satchel bag, containing £ 600 in gold, £ 40 in silver, and £ 3 Is. 2d. in copper, by three men, two of whom got into the same carriage, at Clifton Junction Railway Station, as the cashier who was in charge of the bag containing tho money, and they left the train and gave up tickets at Ringley- road Station. 1. About 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, and respectably dressed in a tweed overcoat. 2. About 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9lnches high, medium build, sandy whiskers cut short at ends and turning gray ; dressed in brown overcoat, and has a peculiar and strange look in one eye. 3. About 30, ycars of age, medium height and build, full face, rough featured as if pockpitted or bloated with drink;' slmbby genteel appearance, supposed • wearing- a brown overcoat and black billycock hat. One of the threo men took three third class tickets at ( Hitluajj^ ityjimt^ » t^ i, tiou I'm- molyneux. Station, and HBBoHi ~ bdt the Molyneux tickets were not given up. Tho above money was being conveyed from Messrs. Andrew Knowles & Sons' Colliery Offices, Pendlebury, by train from Clifton Junction to Radcliffe Railway Station, by their Cashier and another man, their Agent, for tho purpose of paying wages at Radcliffe. The two men, who got into the same compartment as the Cashier, had a leather satchel bag exactly similar to the one tho Cashier had. Whilst one of the two men was turning and opening a newspaper it is supposed the bag must have been exchanged, as a bag containing iron nuts wrapped in brown paper was left in its place. The above reward will be given to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension of tho thieves and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, on applying to Superintendent HENDERSON. Police Office, Bury, Lancashire. County Police Office, December 18th, 1886. ( 37 H. c.) i NEWPORT ( MON.) POLICE. WANTED at Newport ( Mon.) charged with stealing a bag containing £ 56, on the 20th instant.— William Andrew Hughes, alias E. Patterson, a Cleik or Accountant, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, slight build, thin features, hollow cheeks, rather dark or sallow complexion, dark brown wavy hair, small dark whiskers and moustache ( chin supposed to bo shaved), has a peculiar laugh, wrinkles his nose when laughing, « fcc., frequently contracts his forehead. Dressed, when he left, in two small black coats, grey striped trowsers, Oxford shirt, blue mixture necktie, and black hard bowler hat. Food of drink, and looks shabby and sickly. Left Newport by tho Steam Tug " Prairie Biid" and landed at Portishead, near Bristol, at 2 p. m. same day ; he is a native of Bethesda, Car- narvonshire, aud was employed several years in Liver- pool, and knows Bristol well. Police Officers are requested to make all possible search and enquiry for the accused at hotels, ship- ping offices, boarding houses, private lodging houses, railway stations, steamer wharves, and outgoing vessels, and it found, arrest and communicate with A. I. SINCLAIR, Head Constable. Newport ( Mon.), Nov. 29, 1886. ( 33 H. C.) AUSCONDED on the 27th ultimo, and now charged by Warrant with' stealing £ 470 the money of his employer:— James Sykes Crane, a clerk, 31 years of age, 5 leot 5 or ti inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, side whiskers and moustache, under lip protrudes, dressed in a black and brown check tweed suit, trowsers very tight, black billycock hat, of respectable appearance; frequents race meetings, music halls, and brothels. Please cause every possible inquiry to be made; it found arrest, or any information received kindly communicate with GEORGE WILLIAMS, Ohief Super- intendent. ABSCONDED on the 17th ultimo, and now charged on Warrant with embezzlement:— Henry Andrews, a clerk, .25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, pale complexion, light hair parted in centre, light brown side whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, flat cheeks, eyes slightly protrude, rather large nose, dressed in a brown tweed jacket and vest, dark trowsers, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. Information to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Super- intendent. Detective Department, Liverpool, BOROUGH OF NEW WINDSOR. £ 3 3s. REWARD. WANTED. A " gentleman" calling himself H. Temple is wanted" for obtaining £ 6 4s. by a ficti- tious cheque on " Union Bank of London, Limited," backed H. Temple, 1, Park Hill, Richmond, Surrey ( wiiich is false), Chancery- lane Branch, from Mr. A. E. Watts, of Thames- street, last Monday. The age of the " gentleman" is from 24 to 27 years. He is from 5 feet 6 inches to 8 inches in height, of fair complexion. He was dressed in a green Melton covert coat, brown tweed trowsers, black felt hat, and had a salmon- coloured handkerchief round his neck. He stated he was a nephew of Sir R. Temple, Bart. He is supposed to be known at Twickenham, Staines, and the Wanderers' Club, London. The " gentle- man" came to Windsor on" Friday, and while here he adopted the following plan,— He put up at an hotel, ordered wine, spirits, & c., at a wine store, and requested them to be sent to a private house where he had taken furnished apartments. He paid for the wine, & c., with a fictitious cheque, receiving the balance, engaged a horse and trap from an hotel where he was not stopping, drove to a neighbouring town, and left them at an hotel, and telegraphed to tbe owner to fetch them. In Windsor from Friday, 12th, till Monday, 15th November, 1886. A warrant is issued, and anyone giving such in- formation as will cause his apprehension, to Super- intendent HATES, will receive the above reward from W. S. Cantrell, Esq., J. P., Windsor. November 20, 1886. ( 30 H. C.) HANTS CONSTABULARY. STOLEN between 2 and 11 P. M , on the 15th No- vember, 1886, flrOm the " Birmingham Arms Beer House" at Forton, Gosport, England," about £ 11 in gold, silver, and copper money, also a Silver English double case verge watch No. 61397, value 20a. by John Duffy, a deserter from the Royal Marine Light Infantry :— 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, gray eyes, fresh complexion, very dark moustache, tattooed supposed ship on cbest, tomb- stone right upper arm, in memory of my father, woman right forearm, woman left upper- arm, bracelet each wrist, ring middle finger of each hand ; dressed in dark cord suit, bard felt hat, and side spring boots, a native of Abbnill, Tipperary. STOLEN, about 7 p- m., 1st November, 1886, from an hotel in this city :— A gold English lever watch, with black figures, rose, thistle, and shamrock engraved on back, had attached a gold Albert chain, made from a lady's long ctyain, with two slides on; a pair of gold eye- glasses, with chain attached ; a small cameo brooch, set with diamonds and pearls; a brooch, twisted gold setting, with tor- quoise stone; a blue pearl enamelled brooch, set with 25 pearls, shape of Maltese cross; a gold ring, buckle pattern, set with 2 diamonds; a pair of old- fashioned bracelets, gold- plated, about 2 inches wide, shape of a chain ; a large gold locket, with monogram, " M. A. B.," containing gent's photograph; a silver curb neck chain, gold- plated ; a pair of blue enamel and pearl ear- drops; a long gold chain, snake pattern, had attached blue pearl brooch, and a small gold ring set with imitation diamond. By Ann Taylor, a domestic servant, aged 37 years, height 5 feet, . complexion dark, hair turning gray, dressed in dark clothes and has a very dejected appearance. If any of the above property be found pledged the amount lent will be paid by the owner. Information givan to C. Thomas Towey and Mary Ellen Bates ( stabbing with intent to murder), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 2lst September, 1886. SCOTCH POLICE. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. FORGERY OF BANK CHEQUES. WANTED on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with having on 12th inst., fraudulently obtained a diamond ring ( recovered) from a firm of Jewellers in this city on presentation of a forged cheque drawn upon the Bank of Scotland, Edinburgh :— William Ruther- ford, alias Stephen Ellerby, from 35 to 40 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout make, dark brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, broad features, ruddy complexion, dressed in a black cloth surtout coat, stock scarf, stand up collar, and dress hat; spoke with Scotch accent, and had the appear- ance and style of a business man. It has since been ascertained that accused under the name of Stephen Ellerby, on 29th June last, opened an account with the Bank of Scotland, Edinburgh, by depositing £ 480, and thereby received a cheque- book No. B. 66529- 52, the money at Ellerby's credit was gradually withdrawn from the Bank, and with the remaining cheques he is now travelling the country obtaining goods from Jewellers and others, and in payment therefor tendering forged cheques under different names. Police Officers are requested to warn jewellers and others to be on their guard, and should accused be arrested immediate information to be sent to A. M'CALL, Chief Constable. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Patrick M'Gee A 485, convicted at Dublin, on 5 June, 1882, for assault and bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude :— 19 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born in Dublin, resided before conviction in Bishop- street, Dublin, his friends reside in Lr. Church- street, Dublin; black hair, blue eyes, dark broivn eye- brows, large and flat nose, large mouth, fresh com- plexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, blue spot on right forearm. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on licence, 21 st July, 1886, and went to reside at Ham- mond- lane, Dublin. He has left his residence without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest ho should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 16,1886. ( 36 H C.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict Ellen Costello otherwise Kelly, B. 34, convicted a Trinity Sessions, Castlebar, county Mayo, on the 23Td June, 1880, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, 69 years of age on conviction, widow, is a dealer, prison trade knitting ; born at Tuam, resided before conviction in county Mayo, her friends reside at Tuam :— Gray hair, hazel eyes, dark eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, sallow com- plexion, long visage, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison, 24th Fobruary 18^ 5, on licence; on 17th November, 1886, she left Gort without notifying her departure to the R. I. C., and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the Bth Scction of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. Convict Timothy Dennehy, A453, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 12tli October, 1886. Patrick MacCabe Fay ( forgery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st October, 1886. , Robert farquharson, late Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Roval — Exchange Assuranoe Company, Dublin, ( embezzle- ment), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 31st July, 1885, ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of Charles Hamilton, native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the 12th July, 1886, in the barony of Carey, par sh of Ramoan, and town of Ballycastle, stolen a coat ( since recovered), the property of William Moor:— Lame of right leg, brown eyes, short nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, hair turning gray; wore an old brown coat much faded, dark trowsers and vest, trowsers much patched; is a pedlar. The R. I. Constabulary at Ballycastle hold a warrant for this man's arrest. Ballycastle, 18th Nov., 1886. ( 77822 c.— 34360.) DESCRIPTION of Richard M'Cracken, alias George Stewart ( mother's surname Dodds), native of Belfast Town, who stands charged with having, on the 80th day of September, 1886, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, stolen a registered letter, the property of the Postmaster General, con- taining a £ 50 note, No. 83,514, and a £ 20 note, No. 63,931 :— Bad teeth, wants some of upper front row, large ears and mouth, gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, oval face, slight make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 19 years of age, looks younger, sandy hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a telegraph messenger. John M'Gee ( obtaining money by false pretences), not arrested; hue- and- Cry, 15th October, 1886. Clare. Cattle, the property of Charles J. Mahon, Esquire, Sub- Sherriff, not recovered; Hue- and Cry, 16th November, 1886. Francis Greene ( threatening to shoot), not ar- rested ; Hue- and- Cry, 6th August, 1886. ! he man and woman ( deserting child), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 24th August, 1886. Cork. DESCRIPTION of Philip Hickey, native of New- townbarry, county Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 19th November, 1886, in the barony of E. D. E. Carbery, parish of Ross, absconded from Rosscarbery with twenty pounds (£ 20), the property of his employer Michael Joyce, of Castlecomer, county Kilkenny ( Merchant); Hickey was travelling for Mr. Joyce in the tea trade, and was last seen at Rosscarbery, where he transacted some business:— Stooped shoulders, soft gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, full soft face, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 21 years of age, fair hair, slight moustache ; wore a shepherd's plaid suit. Warrant for his arrest with the police at Clonakilty. Clonakilty, Dec. 6, 1886. ( 78012 c.— 34674.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 14th November, 1886, absconded from the Rehoboth- place Reformatory School, at Dublin :— James Rafferty, about 20 years ot age, 5 feet 5 inches high, st ut make, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, left one sore on left side, round visage, left side of face very much marked by old sores, left eye red from effects of old sores ; formerly belonged to city of Cork; father dead, mother's residence not known. The boy does not know the city of Dublin, and has no friends in it, but will try to change his clothes as soon as possible to prevent recognition. The school dress :— Dark tweed jacket, trowsers, and vest, buckled and nailed boots, blue cloth cap with peak, blay calico shirt, blay cotton socks. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, it arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will rewari the person who may capture him with £ 1. Donegal. DESCRIPTION of William M'Geehan and John M'Monagle, natives of Doharry bridge, who stand charged with having, on the 26th October, 1886, in the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish of Gartan, pre- sented firearms at a Gamekeeper and threatened to shoot hiori:— 1. gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexioo, thin face, very slight make, weighs only stone, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 21 years of age, is a labourer. 2. grav or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, wears all his beard which is sandy colour ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Burns, native of county Kildare, James White and Michael Robinson, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the ] st December, 1886, at Warrenpoint, in the barony of Iveagh Upper, parish of Warrenpoint, uttered counterfeit coin:— 1. Wants eye- tooth on right side, large gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair, light fair moustache; wore a faded brown cap, tweed coat, and trowsers, moleskin vest ; is a labourer. 2. Deep scar across point of nose, broken tooth in right side of mouth, thick lips, wears all his beard which is gray and about a month's growth, gray eyes, short nose, fresh complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 7| inches high, about 66 years of age, steel gray hair; wore a hard black hat, brown tweed coat, moles- kin trowsers, tweed vest; is a navvy. 3. Slightly round shoulders, retreating chin, pimple on right cheek, dark eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 21 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard black hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. These men have been returned for trial to Newry Quarter Sessions, on 27th January, 1887, and as it is suspected that they have committed crimes elsewhere, any information regarding them to be sent to the District Inspector, at Rathfriland. Rathfriland, Dec. 9, 1886. ( 78115 c— 34861.) Dublin. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender,, who, on the 14th November, 1886, absconded from the Rehoboth- place, Reformatory School, at Dublin :— Thomas Clifford, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, stout make, pale complexion, black hair, brown eyes, slightly turned up nose, small mouth, round visage, old cut under corner of left eye, letters " T. C." tattoed on left arm, several other marks tattoed on arms. Formerly belonged to city of Dublin, his father resides somewhere about Meath- street, Dublin. This boy knows the city well, and is known to some of the police, he has friends in Glasgow, and will likely try to get there; he is a shoemaker by trade. He absconded before on 11th of last month and was brought back to the school. Tbe school dress :— Dark tweed jacket, trowsers, and vest, buckled boots, not nailed, blue cloth cap with peak, blay calico shirt, blay cotton socks. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of tbe undernamed young offender^ who, on the 14th November, 1886, absconded from the rehoboth- place Reformatory School at Dublin:— Ross Mullen, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, pretty stout make, sallow complexion, fair hair, hazel eyes, small nose, pretty large mouth, long visage. Formerly belonged to the city of Dublin ; his parents reside somewhere about Meath- street, Dublin. This boy is fond ot' the soldiers and may try to enlist. He absconded before on the 11th October present year, and was brought back to tbe school. The school dress :— Dark tweed jacket, trowsers, and vest, buckled and nailed boats, blue cloth peaked cap, blay calico shirt, blay cotton socks. The Manager of tbe Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Heifer, the property of John Connor, Ratoo, not recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd November, 18h6. Daniel Lane ( cattle stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 15th October, 1886. Kilkenny. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of James Doolan, which was stolen from off his land at Bally- oaskill, parish of Attanagh, barony of Fassadinnen, and county Kilkenny, on night of 10th December, 1886, and sold on 11 th instant at Ballingarry Fair, county Tipperary, to a man unknown:— A year- and- a- half old heifer red colour mixed with gray ( roan), fair condition, value for about £ 6. Castlecomer, 16th Dec., 1886. ( 78258 c.— 35101.) King's DESCRIPTION of William Reed, alias Patrick Delaney, native ol Clononey, King's County, who stands charged with having, on the 27th October, 1886, in the barony of Garrycastle, parish of Tessauran, obtained money by false pretences'— Walks with a bti. op, dark hair, mixed with gray, face all shaved, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin withered face, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 60 yeavs of age ; wore a gray tweed coat and trowsers, blue cloth vest with gilt buttons, with ribbons sewn on it, one of which ho says belongs to tbe Victoria Cross, and the others lor different medals which he received in the army. There is good reason to believe that he is going through the country obtaining money by false pretences. Ferbane, Nov. 11, 1886. ( 77546 c.— 33927.) DESCRIPTION of William Simpson, native of Ashton- under- Lyne, England, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of November, 1886, in the barony of Carra, parish of Aglish, stolen a suit of tweed clothes, an Ulster overcoat, and 15s., the property of his master, Captain Ovens, of H. M. Border Regiment; Simpson is also a deserter from said regiment:— Small tattoo marks on left hand and arm, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 teet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a brown tweed coat, tw- ed trowsers and vest, and is likely wearing the stolen Ulster, which is brown, and of a rough texture; is a private soldier in Border Regiment This man took a ticket for Dublin on night of 18th instant. DESCRIPTION of James White, native of Drogheda, who stands charged with having, on the 6th December, 1886, in the barony of Lower Novan, parish of Ardbrackan, stolen one bullock the property of James Loughran, which lie sold samo day at Navan Fair;— Dark eyes, dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high about 25 years of age, black hair : wore a blue serge coat, trowsers and vest, trowsers much broken at bottom ; is a servant boy. DESCRIPTION of Martin Fitzpatrick ( mother's surname Corboy), native ot Castlequarter, who stands charged with having, on the 30th November, 1886, in the barony of clondonagh, parish of Skirke, stolen the sum of £ 72 from the person of Edward Loughman, to whom he was servant:— Burn mark over right eye, cast in one eye, fresh cut mark ou back of head, high eyebrows, thumb and part of forefinger of left hand oil; wears all his beard which is dark, shaves upper lip, thin slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark hat, dark grav frieze overcoat, velvet collar, corduroy trowsers. DESCRIPTION of a woman, whose name and native place are unknown, who stands charged with having, on the lst day of December, 1886, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Nenagh, obtained drapery goods and slippers the property of Mr. P. J. O'Brien, M. P., draper, Nenagh, by false pretences, falsely representing herself to be a messenger from the Convent at Nenagli, and that the goods were required for the Superioress:— Round narrow shoulders, narrow flat chest, long waist, long narrow face, skin about eyes and nose wrinkled, dark lines under eyes, thin lips, no fringe, hair twisted in a coil at back of head, accent like that of Dublin, looked like a broken down servant out of place, small eyes, long thin nose, sallow or yellow complexion, tliin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair ; wore a brown dress, black serge plain old fashioned jacket, long in the skirt, and too tight at the edge and chest, maroon coloured straw hat, trimmed with like coloured velvet, bright yellow silk or imitation silk square check pattern about neck. Warrant issued. Description of the Woods :— Eleven yards black french merino for dresses, 3 yards scarlet flannel, 3 pairs lady's cloth house slippers. Nenagh, December 3, 1886. ( 78000 c.— 34652.) 19th instant, escaped from the Police Barrack, by jumping out of a window 20 feet high, in said barony and parish :— Smart and active, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, P eet high, 17 or 18 years of age, reddish hair; • re a dirty dark greasy silk cap with peak like a okey's cap, light tweed coat, tweed trowsers, and • est; is a weaver. DESCRIPTION of Mary Kelleger, native of Cool- beggan, parish of Templemichael, who left her father's house, in the barony of Coshmore and Coshbeg, on morning of 12th November, 1886, and said she would go and earn her living elsewhere. She has not since been heard of. It is believed she has met with foul play:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 22 years of age, black hair with a heavy fringe ; wore an olive green dress, black shawl, light boots; is a farmer's daughter. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 31st October, or morning of lst November, 1886, in the barony of Coshmore and Coshbride, parish of Lismore, burglariously entered the dwelling- house of Lady Catherine Synge, South- mall, Lismore, and stolen therefrom property, to the value of £ 5, description of which appears in Hue- and- Cry of 19th November, 1886 :— 1. Very cocked nose, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches ' higb, about 50 years of age, brown hair, long foxy whiskers ; wore an old dark coat, trowsers, and vest; all much worn. 2. Slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair and beard, no whiskers; wore an old dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; much worn and torn. He was barefooted.
