WANTED at Newport ( Mon.) charged with stealing a bag containing £ 56, on the 20th instant.— William Andrew Hughes, alias E. Patterson, a Clerk or Accountant, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, slight build, thin features, hollow cheeks, rather dark or sallow complexion, dark brown wavy hair, small dark whiskers and moustache ( chin supposed to be shaved), has a peculiar laugh, wrinkles Kis nose when laughing, & c., frequently contracts his forehead. Dressed, when he left, in two small black coats, grey striped trowscrs, Oxford shirt, blue mixture necktie, and black hard bowler hat. Fond of drink, and looks shabby and sickly. Left Newport by the Steam Tug " Prairie Bird" and landed at Portishead, near Bristol, at 2 p. m. same day; he is a native of Bethesda, Car- narvonshire, and was employed several years in Liver- pool, and knows Bristol well. A " gentleman" calling himself H. Temple is " wanted" for obtaining £ 6 4s. by a ficti- tious cheque on " Union Bank of London, Limited," backed H. Temple, 1, Park Hill, Richmond, Surrey ( which is false), Chancery- lane Branch, from Mr. A. E. Watts, of Thames street, last Monday. The age of the " gentleman" is from 24 to 27 years. He is from 5 feet 6 inches to 8 inches in height, of fair complexion. He was dressed in a green Melton covert coat, brown tweed trowsers, black felt hat, and had a salmon- coloured handkerchief round his neck, lie stated he was a nephew of Sir R. Temple, Birt. He is supposed to be known at Twickenham, Staines, • and the Wanderers' Club, L indon. The " gentle- j man" came to Windsor on Friday, and while here he adopted the following plan:— He put up at an hotel, ordered wine, spirits, & c., at a wine store, and requested them to be sent to a private house where he had taken furnished apartments. He paid for the wine, & c., with a fictitious cheque, receiving the balance, engaged a horse and trap from an hotel where he wasrnot stopping, drove to a neighbouring town, and left them at an hotel, and telegraphed to the owner to fetch them. In Windsor from Friday, 12th, till Monday, 15th November, 1886. A warrant is issued, and anyone giving such in- formation as will cause his apprehension, to Super- intendent HAYES, will receive the above reward from W. S. Cantrell, Esq., J. P., Windsor. STOLEN, about 7 p. m., lst November, 1886, from an hotel in this city :— A gold English lever watch, with black figures, rose, thistle, and shamrock engraved on back, had attached a gold Albert chain, made from a lady's long chain, with two slides on; a pair of gold eye- glasses, with chain attached; a small cameo brooch, set with diamonds and pearls; a brooch, twisted gold setting, with tor quoise stone; a blue pearl enamelled brooch, set with 25 pearls, shape of Maltese cross; a gold ring, buckle pattern, set with 2 diamonds; a pair of old- fashioned bracelets, gold- plated, about 2 inches wide, shape of a chain ; a large- gold locket, with monogram, " M. A. B.," containing gent's photograph; a silver curb neck chain, gold- plated ; a pair of blue enamel and pearl ear- drops ; a long gold chain, snake pattern, had attached blue pearl brooch, and a small gold ring set with imitation diamond. By Ann Taylor, a domestic servant, aged 37 years, height 5 feet, complexion dark, hair turning gray, dressed in dark clothes and has a very dejected appearance. He is using a cheque book of the Birmingham and Midland Bank, Limited, numbered from A07050 ( inclusive), purchases goods, and tenders in payment a cheque for a larger amount than the purchase, and receives the surplus change. Thomas Towey and Mary Ellen Bates ( stabbing with intent to murder), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 21st September, 188G. SCOTCH POLICE. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. FORGERY OP BANK CHEQUES. WANTED on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with having on 12th inst., fraudulently obtained a diamond ring ( recovered) from a firm of Jewellers in this city on presentation of a forged cheque drawn upon the Bank of Scotland, Edinburgh :— William Ruther- ford, alias Stephen Ellerby, from 35 to 40 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout make, dark brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, broad features, ruddy complexion, dressed in a black cloth surtout coat, stock scarf, stand up collar, and dress hat; spoke with Scotch accent, and had the appear- ance and style of a business man. It has since been ascertained that accused under the name of Stephen Ellerby, on 29th June last, opened an account with the Bank of Scotland, Edinburgh, by depositing £ 480, and thereby received a cheque- book No. B. 65529- 52, the money at Ellerby's credit was gradually withdrawn from the Bank, and with the remaining cheques he is now travelling the country obtaining goods from Jewellers and others, and in payment therefor tendering forged cheques under different names. Police Officers are requested to warn Jewellers and others to be on their guard, and should accused be arrested immediate information to be sent to A. M'CALL, Chief Constable. WANTED in this burgh, on a charge of embezzle- ment of £ 770, the property of the Netherdale Deposit Society, Douglas Davidson:— A millworker, 42 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches in height, swarthy complexion, stout build, dark hair, dark whiskers, all round, mixed with gray, rather thin on chin, dark moustache; gruff voice ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, black over- coat, and hard felt hat. A warrant has been granted for the apprehension of the above described person who absconded this morning. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Ellen Costello otherwise Kelly, B. 34, convicted at Trinity Sessions, Castlebar, county Mayo, on the 23rd June, 1880, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, 69 years of age on conviction, widow, is a doaler, prison trade knitting ; born at Tuam, resided before conviction in county Mayo, her friends reside at Tuam:— Gray hair, hazel eyes, dark eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, sallow com- plexion, long visage, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high. This woman was released from Grangegorman Prison, 24th February J835, on licence; on 17th November, 1886, she left Gort without notifying her departure to the R. I. C., and her present whereabouts is unknown. In tho event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th Section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. DESCRIPTION of Charles Hamilton, native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the 12th July, 1886, in the barony of Carey, parish of Ramoan, and town of Ballycastle, stolen a coat ( since recovered), the property of William Moor:— Lame of right leg, brown eyes, short nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, hair turning gray; wore an old brown coat much faded, dark trowsers and vest, trowsers much patched; is a pedlar. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 14th November, 1886, absconded from the Rehoboth- place Reformatory School, at Dublin:— James Rafferty, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, left one sore on left side, round visage, left side of face very much marked by old sores, left eye red from effects of old sores ; formerly belonged to city of Cork; father dead, mother's residence not known. The boy does not know the city of Dublin, and has no friends in it, but will try to change his clothes as soon as possible to prevent recognition. DESCRIPTION of William M'Geehan and John M'Monagle, natives of Doharry bridge, who stand charged with having, on the 26th October, 1886, in the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish of Gartan, pre- sented firearms at a Gamekeeper and threatened to shoot him:— 1. gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, very slight make, weighs only stone, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 years of age, is a labourer. 2. gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, wears all his beard which is sandy colour ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Burns, native of county Kildare, James White and Michael Robinson, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 1st December, 1886. at Warrenpoint, in tlje barony of Iveagh Upper, parish of Warrenpoint, uttered counterfeit coin:— 1. Wants eye- tooth on right side, large gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair, light fair moustache; wore a faded brown cap, tweed coat, and trowsers, moleskin vest; is a labourer. 2. Deep scar across point of nose, broken tooth in right side of mouth, thick lips, wears all his beard which is gray and about a month's growth, gray eyes, short nose, fresh complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 7^ inches high, about 66 years of age, steel gray hair; wore a hard black hat, brown tweed coat, moleskin trowsers, tweed vest; is a navvy. 3. Slightly round shoulders, retreating chin, pimple on right cheek, dark eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 21 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard black hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. These men have been returned for trial to Newry Quarter Sessions, on 27th January, 1887, and as it is suspected that they have committed crimes elsewhere, any information regarding them to be sent to the District Inspector, at Rathfriland. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 14th November, 1880, absconded from the Rehoboth- place, Reformatory School, at Dublin:— Thomas Clifford, about 18- years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout make, pale complexion, black hair, brown eyes, slightly turned up hose, small mouth, round visage, old cut under corner of left eye, letters " T. C." tattoed on left arm, several other marks tattoed on arms. Formerly belonged to city of Dublin, his father resides somewhere about Meath- street, Dublin. This boy knows the city well, and is known to some of the police, he has friends in Glasgow, and will likely try to get there; he is a shoemaker by trade. He absconded before on 11th of last month and was brought back to the school. He absconded before on the 11th October present year, and was brought back to the school. King's DESCRIPTION of William Reed, alias Patrick Delaney, nativs of Clononey, King's County, who stands charged with having, on the 27th October, 1886, in the barony of Garrycastle, parish of Tessauran, obtained money by false pretences!— Walks with a stoop, dark hair, mixed with gray, face all shaved, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin withered face, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 60 years of age; wore a gray tweed coat and trowsers, blue cloth vest with gilt buttons, with ribbons sewn on it, one of which he says belongs to the Victoria Cross, and the others for different medals which he received in the army. DESCRIPTION of Martin Bradshaw, native of Glen- gar, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 1st day November, 1886, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, seriously assaulted one Denis M'Carthy, of Coolbawn, so as to endanger his life :— Lame of one leg which bends inwards about the knee when walking, supposed to be suffering from an injury to the head inflicted on him same date as on which he assaulted M'Carthy, gray or blue eyes, long nose, pale complexion, rather long face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years of age, very fair hair; wore a black soft hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of William Simpson, native of Ashton- under- Lyne, England, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of November, 1886, in the barony of Carra, parish of Aglish, stolen a suit of tweed clothes, an Ulster overcoat, and 15s., the; property of his master, Captain Ovens, of H. M. Border Regiment; Simpson is also a deserter from said Regiment:— Small tattoo marks on left hand and arm, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a brown tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, and is likely wearing the stolen Ulster, which is brown, and of a rough texture; is a private soldier in Border Regiment This man took a ticket for Dublin on night of 18th instant. DESCRIPTION of Martin Fitzpatrick ( mother's surname Corboy), native of Castlequarter, who stands charged with having, on the 30th November, 1886, in the barony of clondonagh, parish of Skirke, stolen tho sum of £ 72 from the person of Edward Loughman, to whom he was servant:— Burn mark over right eye, cast in one eye, fresh cut mark on back of head, high eyebrows, thumb and part of forefingor of left hand ofi; wears all his beard which is dark, shaves upper lip, thin slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 years of ago, dark hair ; wore a dark hat, dark grav frieze overcoat, velvet collar, corduroy trowsors. DESCRIPTION of two ewes, the property of Thomas Mullin, which were stolen off his farm at Lisaphuca, in the county of Roscommon, on the night of 6th or jnorniug of 7th December, 1885. No. 1. Three- year- old ewe in good condition, branded with tho letters " T. M." on right side, and marked with red raddle over the hips. No. 2. AMENDED description of Edward M'Manus ( mother's surname Ryan), native of Derrylahan, county Ros- common, who stands charged with having, on the 1st day of September, 1886, in the barony oi Moy- camon, parish of Moore, feloniously assaulted, with some sharp instrument, one William Glynn, from the effects of which ho died on the 5th September, 1886 :— No beard, whiskers, or moustache, shy and haggard- looking, gray eyes, straight nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, light brown hair, wore a light coloured tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; believed to have changed his clothes. DESCRIPTION of Beesy or Bridget Brett ( mother's surname Walsh), native of Tullycusheen, who stands charged with having, between 2lst and 22nd October, 1886, in the barony of Leyney, parish of Achonry, caused the death of her illegitimate child :— Rather high cheek bones, bold looking, gray or blue eyes, slightly cocked nose and thick at point, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark fair hair; is a Servant. DESCRIPTION of a woman, whose name and native place are unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 1st day of December, 1886, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Nenagh, obtained drapery goods and slippers the property of Mr. P. J. O'Brien, M. P., draper, Nenagh, by false pretences, falsely representing herself to be a messenger from the Convent at Nenagh, and that the goods were required for the Superioress:— Round narrow shoulders, narrow flat chest, long waist, long narrow face, skin about eyes and nose wrinkled, dark lines under eyes, thin lips, no fringe, hair twisted in a coil at back of head, accent like that of Dublin, looked like a broken down servant out of place, small eyes, long thin nose, sallow or yellow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair ; wore a brown dress, black serge plain old fashioned jacket, long in the skirt, and too tight at the edge and chest, maroon coloured straw hat, trimmed with like coloured velvet, bright yellow silk or imitation silk square check pattern about neck. DESCRIPTION of Robert Jones ( mother's surname Margaret Morrison), native ot Stewartstown, who htands charged with having, on the 1st November, 1886, in the barony of Middle Dungannon, parish of Donaghendry, county Tyrone, taken six pounds (£ 6), from Margaret Morrow, knowing same to have been stolen from her father, Robert Morrow: — Has a lisp when speaking, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, fair face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age wore a round hard half dark gray coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Richard John Rainey, alias James M'Keown ( Mother's surname M'Keown), native of Lisburn, county Antrim, who stands charged with having, on the 18th November, 1886, in the barony J of Middle Dungannon, parish of Drumglass, stolen an ounce of tobacco, whilst being weighed, and on 19th instant, escaped from the Police Barrack, by jumping out of a window 20 feet high, in said barony and parish :— Smart and active, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet high, 17 or 18 years of age, reddish hair; wore a dirty dark greasy silk cap with peak like a jockey's cap, light tweed coat, tweed trowsers, and vest; is a weaver. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 31st October, or morning of 1st November, 1886, in the barony of Coshmore and Coshbride, parish of Lismore, burglariously entered the dwelling- house of Lady Catherine Synge, South- mall, Lismore, and stolen therefrom property, to the value of £ 5, description of which appears in Hue- and- Cry of 19th November, 1886 1. Very cocked nose, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches higb, about 50 years of age, brown hair, long foxy whiskers; wore an old dark coat, trowsers, and vest; all much worn. 2. Slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair and beard, no whiskers; wore an old dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; much worn and torn. He was barefooted.
