W I LLTNG' 8, 125, STRAND, LONDON, W. C SPECIAL NOTICE.— Blocks for Advertisements cut and Hand bills printed in a few hours, at the lowest possible prices. Telegraph Address—" Willing's, London.' I ( I WILL GUIDE THEE." That is one of God's " I wills." Does it mean anything to us ? Do we even wish that it should mean anything to us ? or are we so confident of ourselves, our sense, our strength, our eyesight, our judgment, that day by day we practically say, " I need no guide, I am not such a fool as to take wrong paths, or to walk crookedly, or to fall into traps," and therefore neither ask for guidance nor look for a guide. And yet, if God volunteers the promise, " I will guide thee," He must have a reason, and see a needs be. Let us look into His looking- glass, and, in the true reflection of ourselves that is there, let us find some of His thoughts about guidance. First, as to ourselves, He says, " It is not in man that walketh to direct his steps ;" just the contrary to what we thought! He puts it into the mouth of the Wise man to tell us, " He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool;" the last name we wish to be called. Next, in addition to our own foolishness and blindness, He shows outside reasons why we need guidance. " Consider mine enemies, for they are many." " Be vigilant, because your adversary the Devil walketh about." Remember, too, the uncertainty of everything—" Thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." Much more we can find about our inability and our dangers ; but, in our little remaining space, let us see more of Him who says, "/ will guide thee." He is a strong guide. " He fainteth not, neither is weary." He is a Wise Guide—" There is no searching of His understanding." He guides continually. " He shall neither slumber nor sleep." He guides everywhere—" The Lord guided them on every side." " He will go over before thee . . . . He it is that doth go with thee. God will be your reward." He guides with His Eye. Are our eyes waiting upon Him ? are we so near as to catch His look 1 He guides with His counsel. " His Name shall be called Counsellor." He guides by His Spirit, " into all truth." " This God is our God for ever and ever ; He will be our guide even unto death." BOULOGrNE- SUR- MER. jypfc.
