THE Police Gazette, CRT. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. Should irregularities arine in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give tne number it bears, as without tliia Information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, ^ ttttioiiH, Ac., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JULY 13, 1886. ENGLISH POLICE. AUSCONDED on the 18th ultimo, and now charged on a Warrant with embezzling £ 97, the moneys of his employers:— John Hindley, a commercial traveller, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, very full chest, round face, fair com- plexion, brown hair, slight light moustache and whiskers on chin, slightly pockpitted on each side of nose, walks very erect, and wears hat on back of head ; dressed in dark tweed suit and billycock hat. May endeavour to go abroad or seek employment as a traveller at drapery establishments. He is married, and his family reside in Seacombe, Cheshiro. Kindly cause every possible enquiry to hp made at all likely places for this man, who has not yet left the country, and if found arrest and telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent Detective Department, Liverpool, Juno 5, 1880. . PERTHSHIRE CONSTABULARY. STOLEN, between 12th March and 22nd April, 1886, from the Hill Pasture on the farm of Harperstone, in the parish of Ardoch, and county of Perth, 43 or thereby blackfaced ewes, of different ages, from two to six years, marked as follows :— Hornburn, t'ca " on either horn ( according to age); lugmark, nip above left lug; buist, " m " on either'side. Also stolen, between 1st March nnd 10th April, 1886, from the Hill Pasture on the farm of Fendoch, in the parish of Crieff, and county of Perth, 27 or thereby blackfaced ewes, of different ages, marked as follows:— Lugmark, nip above right lug, nip below left lug ; horn burn, " M " on right horn, and ago figure on left horn. The whole of the ewes at both places were dipped, and all are supposed to have been in lamb, and are now likely grazing with their lamb3. The police aro requested to make particular search and inquiry at auction marts, railway stations, graziers, shepherds, and others for the above des- cribed sheep, and forward any information obtained to Superintendent STEWART, County Police, Dun- blane ; or to J. Admittance had been obtained by skeleton key?, or picking one of the outside door locks, and when the thief or thieves were leaving they locked the outside doors, taking the key of tho door ( they had gone out by, which they had found inside) away with them. A chisel about 8 inches long, one end of which - resembles the head of a claw- hammer, which had been left behind, was found inside the premises. Police officers are requested to make particular search and enquiry at pawn shops, jewellers, and all other likely places, for the above described property. If found and traced to the possession of any person or persons apprehended, or any trace is ob'ained ot the same; communicate with THOS. NICOL, Superin- tendent of Police.,. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. Angus M. Campbell, an accountant ( embezzlement of £ 140), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1886. Charles M'Nab ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue and- Cry, 6th April, 1886. G Division, PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Walsh, A 96, convicted at Kilkenny, at Michaelmas Sessions, on 9th October, 1879, for cattle stealing, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, bom at Mooncoin, county Kilkenny, no fixed place of residence ; brown hair turning gray, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 7^ inches high; B. C. on left side, burn mark on inside left ankle and above left knee. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison, the 8th February, 1886, and went to Waterford. He left Tramore on the 5th inst., stating he was going to look for lodgings, but he has not since been heard of, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with Prisons Board, June 15, 1886. ( 32599 JI.— 60856.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John O'Brien, A. 323, convicted in Dublin at Commission, on 6th August, 1881, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, 40 years of age on conviction, single, a labourer, born io Dublin, resided before conviction in - Dublin ; gray hair, blue eyes, light- brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium moutb, fair complexion, thin oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high," right arm has been brokeo, and cross and " John Brien " on same, ship, " D" enclosed in lighthouse on breast, lump behind left ear, burn mark on left leg. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licence, 11th January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He has left his residence, 33, Coombe, without notifying same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5 th tec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, May 27, 1886. ( 32511M.— 60667.) DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, ' on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state :— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. Ha is suspected of hiving embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. ' In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict, James Schriber, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict, Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. DESCRIPTION of Charles O'Higgins, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 8th June, 1886, in Lurgan, in the barony of Oneiland East, parish of Shankhill, fired at and wounded several persons in a riot:— Swaggering gait, slightly bow- legged, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a grocer's assistant and book- keeper. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Clare. DESCRIPTION of three bullocks, the property of George Frost, which are supposed to have been stolen from the lands of Dromline, parish of Drom- line, barony of Bunratty Lower, on the morning of the 1st July, 1886 :— 1. Two years old, red colour, with a - white stripe from the hip to the flank, large horns; value for about £ 7. 2. One year old, red colour ; value for about £ 5. 8. One year old, red and white colour; value for about £ 5. These bullocks may have some sign cf the letter " F " on their hips. Sixmilebridge, July 5, 1886. ( 75134 c.— 29640.) DESCRIPTION of two bullocks, the property of Patrick Frost, of Meelick, which broke away from bis servant on 24th June, 1886, in the townland of Clooney, parish of Clooney, and barony of Bunratty Upper, while he was driving them from the fair of Spancil- hill. No trace of them have been since obtained, and it is now believed they have been stolen :— ). Ono yearold, red colour, star on forehead, small white spot on one side; value for £ 5. 2. One year old, red and white colour, with some brindled stripes from horns to snout; value for about £ 5. Sixmilebridge, July 7, 1886. ( 75168 c.— 29699.) Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th. December, 1885. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of the property of Thomas Turbett Esquire, which was stolen from his dwelling house> Scribblestown, in the parish and barony of Castle- knock, by some persons unknown, between 3 and 6 o'clock on the mqrning of 8th July, 1886 :— Gentleman's dark violet cloth suit— frock coat, bone buttons, two outside breast pockets, and one inside, single- breasted vest, rolling collar, dark cloth buttons, trowsers with plain bone studs, four holes, flaps on pockets; gentleman's shepherd's plaid suit— frock coat, gray bone buttons, new cuffs, recently put on owing to sleeves being short, pockets on outside of breast and one inside, single- breasted vest, no collar, plain gray bone studs, two holes, " Robinson and Steele" on brass studs, four holes in trowsers, " Robinson and Steele, Dame- street," on rim of trowsers and on strap of each coat at collar; both suits value for £ 14 ; two linen shirts, marked on lower part of back with letters " T. T."; value 12s.; two gold cuff studs, on one monogram, " T." ; value £ G ; a pair of new waterproof laced boots, maker's name, " Dobbin," on inside cf hind quarter; value £ 2; a pocket knife with corkscrew attached; value 10s. ; a button hook; value 2s.; a blue tie, stock make, and gentleman's silk umbrella; both value 13s. The thieves may be wearing the clothes, as they left behind three old black serge coat°, one serge vest, one plain cloth vest, and an old pair of laced boots, like such as servants wear. The property of Mrs. Hannah Mathews, which was stolen from her house, Richmond- road, on the night of the 26th or morning of the 27th March, 1886, has not been recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 30th March, 1886. The articles, the property of ' William George Edmond?, which were stolen from his dwelling- house, have not been recovered ; Hue- and- Cry, 12th March, 1886. James Smith ( robbery of money), not arrested; * fue- and- Cry, 16th February, 1^ 886. Cork. DESCRIPTION of a person, reputed to be John NEill, or O'Neill, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd April, 1886, in the barony of West Division East Carbery, parish of Kilkerranmore, murdered Daniel Neill, of Knocks District, Dunmanway, Sub- District Ballygurteen, by shooting him with a revolver :— Wants forefinger of right hand, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair; wore a sack- shapcd dark coat, light trowsers like doeskin, check flannel shirt; is a navvy lately on Clonakilty and Ballydehob New Rail- way; returned American. Dunmanway, April 4, 1886. (% m) 8 c.- 26999.) Fermanagh. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 8rd October, 1884, Galway. DESCRIPTION of two men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with haviDg, on the 6th July, 1886, in the barony of Leitrim, parish of Ballinakill, entered the house of James Ward, Lougha- torick, sub- district Woodford, district Portumna, and forced him on his knees, and exacted a promise from him not to use " Cooney's- road " again, putting him in fear and dread :— 1. Red complexion, red face, strong make, about 6 feet high, sandy hair, short red whiskers, rest of face shaved ; wore a soft black hat and band round it tied in knot, brown tweed coat and trowsers, and bright coloured vest. 2. Dark complexion, stout make, about 5 feet 6 inchcs high, black hair ; wore a frieze coat and trowsers. Portumna, July 8, 1886. ( 75216 c.— 29772.) DESCRIPTION of Robinson Gibson, native of Yorkshire, who stands charged with having, on the 19 th May, 1886, in the barony of Galway, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen £ 23 8s in gold, silver, and copper, the property of Captain C. H. Cox, of the West York Regiment:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5} inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair ; wore a black jacket, brown trowsers, and black vest; is a private soldier of the West York Regiment, and was acting as servant to Captain Cox. Galway, May 21, 1886. ( 74530 c.— 28406.) Joseph Greene ( not appearing to attend his trial when on bail on a charge of assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd March, 1886. The watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd February last, have not been recovered ; Hue- and- Cry, 26th February, 1886. John Wood ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 5th January, 1886. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of 2 bullocks, the property of Daniel Courtney, which were stolen from the lands of Knockasartnett, parish of Aghadoe, barony of Magonihy, on the night of 6th July, 1886 :— 1. Blood- red colour, 2J years old, in good con- dition: value for £ 7 10s." 2. White and red colour, 2J years old, long straight horns, in good condition ; value for £ 7 10s. Killarney, July 11, 1886. ( 75250 c.— 29825.) DESCRIPTION of two sets of harness, the property of the Honorable R. A. Winn, which were stolen from his coach- house at Rossbeigh, in the parish of Glenbehy, and barony of Iveragh, on night of 25th June, 1886, viz. :-— One set of old silver- mounted double harness, minus one pair of hames and traces left behind, crest and motto on winkers and housing: value for £ 3; one set of single silvered- mounted harness, nearly new, hames fully plated, crest and motto in three places on winkers, also on housing; value for £ 14; one plain saddle without stirrups; value £ 1 10s. The crest comprises a dragon surmounting a wreath, enclosing the letters " R. A. W." with the motto " virtute et labore " in raised letters. Killorglin, June 27, 1886. ( 75008 c.— 29398.) John Morrissey ( charged with having fired two shots into the dwelling- house of Hanoiii Casey, with intent to kill or maim the inmates thereof), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 13th April, 1886. Thomas Connor ( intimidation), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 2nd April, 1886. John Allman ( intimidation), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th March, 1886. Jeremiah Healy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue and- Cry, 23rd February, 1886. Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'c. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of John Cassidy, native of Sallins, who stands charged with having, on the 15th June, 1886, at Sallins, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Bodenstown, forcibly entered the stables and stores of the Grand Canal Company at Sallins, and carried away about 12 stone of potatoes, four small chickens, and ahorse clipping machine, the property of the dgent of the Company, Thomas Daly :— Gray wild eyes, regular nosej sallow complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a dark tweed trowsers and corduroy vest with sleeves; is a labourer. Naas, June 16, 1886. ( 74849 c.— 29071.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Brady, native place not known, who stands charged with having, on the 8th. day of June, 1886, in the barony of Clane, parish of Mainham, murdered Anne Ennis s— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair, and black moustache ; wore a round hard hat, tweed coat, old Royal Irish Constabulary trowsers, and tweed vest; is a tramp, and apparently discharged soldier or militia man. This man is remanded for examination on 17th instant; anything known of him should be communicated to the District Inspector at Robertstown. Robertstown, June 13, 1886. The man, name and native place unknown, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 9th February, 1886 ( charged with having set fire to a rick of hay), has not been arrested. King's DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 21st June, 1886, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's county:— Timothy Costigan, No. 989, 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight make, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, regular nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage, cut mark on forehead. Formerly belonged to Tullore, Ballyroan, Maryboro', his parents reside at Tullore. The school dress, all with reformatory stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers, vest, and tunic, elastic belt, blue cloth Scotch cap, blucher boots, No. 989. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearext Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1, Office of Reformatories, Dublin Castle, Jujjf l, 1886. DESCRIPTION of Maurice Lee, native of Dumore, county Waterford, and Patrick Johnston, native of Strokestown, county Roscommon, who stand charged with having, on the 10th day of June, 1886, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, failed to give a satisfactory account of themselves in Birr Workhouse, and it is believed they may have committed offences elsewhere:— 1. Cicatrice on right jaw, dark brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, meriiuip make, 5 feet 7£ inches bi;< h, about 29 years of age, dark brown hair, dark biown moustache; wore a black soft hat, old durk tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is an army reserve man. 2. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches higii, about 60 years of age, gray hdir, gray whiskers cut short; wore a gray tweed c . p, dark brown tweed coat, daik tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of Convict James Ivers, A 421, native of Dublin, convicted llt'i February, 1882, at Dublin, of larceny, from the person, with violence, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— Burn mark on right elb > w, left eye dim, no hair on eyebrows or eyelids, gray eyes, flat nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of tho undernamed young offender, who, on the 4th June, 1886, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School, county Wieklow:— John Newaome, No. 1,961 ; about 16 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 5 feet 3 inches high, rather slender make, fresh, but tanned complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, long and regular nose, ordinary mouth, long visage, cut mark on forehead, and " J. N." on left arm. Formerly belonged to Santry, county Dublin. His parents are dead. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, check shirt, cloth ( Scotch make) cap, strong and nailed boots, No. 1,961. The trowsers, jacket, waistcoat, and cap described above have been found, and he is supposed to have instead a double- peaked dark gray cap, a snuff- coloured corduroy trowsers, a tweed vest, and a faded cloth j acket, neither of which is branded. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1.
