Telegraph Address—" Willing's, London." IP RAIS E. " Whoso oflereth praise glorifieth me." David, the man of God's own heart, knew some of the thoughts of God- This is one of them. And David did not only preach what he knew, but he practised it. It would take us a long time to count the words of praise in his Psalms. Take the 145th as a good sample, and in that one Psalm notice how many expressions he uses in inciting others to praise God. Extol, bless, praise, declare, speak, utter, sing, talk, make known. The first record of praise— i. e., of praise where the actual words are given— we find in the mouth of Leah. Not the most likely person, we should have thought ! Her name signifies " a weary one." Her life for many years was spent in an atmosphere of deceit and over reaching, and vet we find her rising above the shadows ; and, undaunted by the failures of Gocl's people as seen in her father and her husband, she acknowledges the " Lord God," the covenant God, at the birth of her boys, and names them accordingly, exclaiming, as we find in Gen. xxix. 35, " Now will I praise the Lord." " Therefore she called " the child Judah— i e., Praise- " Them that honour me I will honour." Here we have no space for noticing the many instances in which we find God true to this promise as regards Judah ; the special blessings pronounced on Him by Jacob and by Moses ; the prosperity of his tribe as to numbers and extent of inheritance ; his position ; his precedence; his more prominent descendants, Bezaleel, Caleb, Othniel, David, might occupy us long. But now we must only further notice the last recorded call to praise,— Rev. xix. 5—" Praise our God all ye his servants ;" all ye who beholding there '• the Lion of the tribe of Judah ;" recog- nise in Him " the Lamb as it had been slain," the One who had redeemed them to God by His blood. That praise must begin upon earth. Will you to day look at the Cross, at God's gift, at Jesus Himself, and say Thank you 1 And from thanks- giving go on to praise. " All that is within me bless His Holy name." THE POLICE WATCH, AS SUPPLIED TO NEARLY EVERY FORCE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
