No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary • to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. ',* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without thil information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JULY 6, 1886. ENGLISH POLICE. ABSCONDED on the 18th ultimo, and now charged on a Warrant wfth embezzling £ 97, the moneys of his omployers:— John Hindley, a commercial traveller, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, very full chest, round face, fair com- plexion, brown hair, slight light moustache and whiskers on chin, slightly pockpitted on each side of nose, walks very erect, and wears hat on back of head; dressed in dark tweed suit and billycock hat. May endeavour to go abroad or seek employment as a traveller at drapery establishments. He is married, and his family reside in Seacombe, Cheshire. Kindly cause every possible enquiry to be made at all likely places for this man, who has not yet left the country, and if found arrest and telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent- Detective Department, Liverpool, June 5, 1886. ABSCONDED on the 18th inst, charged with stealing a gentleman's three- quarter- plate gold lever watch, No. 105688, and gold Albert chain, massive curb link pattern, stamped 18 carat, with an oval shaped gold medallion pendant attached, one side a repre- sentation of the Prince of Wales' arms, and initials " A. E.," and on obverse side " H. R. H. the Prince of Wales, India, 1875 and 1876 " :— Arthur Stanlay Beech, alias Wilson, a gunner of the Lancashire Division Royal Artillery, No. 53332, 20 years of age, 6 feet inches, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, small finger right hand crooked, representation of " man with basket" tattooed on left forearm. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cronin, native of Mill- street, Cork, » Polioe Constable, absconding, and charged on a Warrant with embezzling £ 49 and up- wards, the moneys of the overseers:— 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inchos high, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, scar on bridge of nose, slight dark moustache, no whiskers ; is a labourer; was employed by Mr. Mann, market gardener, isleworth, Middlesex, previous to his joining the Force. EN, between 12th March and 22nd April, 1886, from the Hill Pasture on the farm of Harperstone, in the parish of Ardoch, and county of Perth, 43 or thereby blackfaced ewes, of different ages, from two to six years, marked as follows :— Hornburn, " tn " on either horn.( according to age); lugmark, nip above left lug ; buist, " as " on either side. Also stolen, between 1st March and 10th April, 1886, from the Hill Pasture on the farm of Fendoch, in the parish of Crieff, and county of Perth, 27 or thereby blackfaced ewes, of different ages, marked as follows:— Lugmark, nip above right lug, nip below left lug ; hornburn, " M " on right horn, and age figure on left horn. The whole of the ewes at both places were dipped, and all are supposed to have been in lamb, and are now likely grazing* with their lambs. The police are requested to make particular search and inquiry at auction marts, railway stations, graziers, shepherds, and others for the above des- cribed sheep, and forward any information obtained to Superintendent STEWART, County Police, Dun- blane ; or to J. STOLEN, by means of housebreaking, from a pawn office within this Burgh, on the night of the 3rd or morning of the 4th instant:— A silver Geneva watch, No. 14,912, silver dial, second- handed, value for £ 1; a silver Geneva watch, No. 41,343, white dial, second- handed, value for 12s. 6d.; 18 pairs gold earings, various patterns, value for 4s. 6d. per pair; 1 pair fine gold earings, set with emeralds, value for 15s.; 2 sets 12 carat gold fronts, consisting of 2 wrist studs and 4 front, one set in red plush box and other in green plush box, one set has a fern engraved thereon and the other has a compass and square, value for 5s. per set; 10 gold alberts, 9 carat, various patterns, including two curbs and one with long and short link alternatively, some of which are new and some second- handed, value for £ 2 each; 4 or 6 gold chains, 9 carat ( long), including one secret iink pattern, others various patterns, second- handed, £ 2 lOg. each ; 2 silver bangle bracelets, set with pebbles, one of which has the head of a riding whip in shape ot " right angle " and a circle set in pebbles, value for 8s. 6d. each; 2 broard silver bracelets, one a buckle pattern, value for 10s. each ; 2 silver alberts, a few close curb, two or so open curbs, some New- gate link, and various others patterns, value for 8s. each ; 5 silver chains ( long), various patterns, second- handed, value for 8s. each; 3 silver brooches, including one round, set with 12 brilliants, one large one in centre and remainder all round, and another longish set with 3 brilliants, value for 5s. each; 8 or 9 silver brooches, plain, set with pebbles, value for 2s. each ; 8 or 9 silver brooches, various patterns, value 2s. 6d. each; 1 silver brooch, pattern four owls sitting on stick, value for 5 « .; 15 plain gold rings, some 9, 18, and 22 carat, 8, 9 carat, value for 6s. 6d.: 10 rings, 18 and 22 carat, value for 13s. each; 12 gold keepers, 9 carat, value for 7s. each ; 18 ladies' gold rings, set with stones of various patterns, some new and some second- handed, value for 6s. each f 6 or 8 gent's gold rings, various patterns and stones, some new and some second- handed, value for 8s. each ; 3 gold sets, consisting of brooch and earings, value for 25>. each; 12 silver lockets, various patterns, new, value for 3s. each; 7 silver necklets, two with lockets attached, some new and some second- handed, value for 7s. 6d. each ; 12 or thereby silver appendages, various patterns, value for Is. 9d. each; 6 gold lockets, second- handed, value for 3s. each; 12 Mexican silver appendages, value for 9d. each; 8 Mexican silver alberts, new; 12 Canadian gold alberts, value for 2s. 6d. each, new; and a tin box, 9 inches long, 4 inches broad and 5 deep, containing 12s. in copper money, and a number of silver and copper foreign coins. Admittance had been obtained by skeleton keys, or picking one of the outside door locks, and when the thief or thieves were leaving they locked the outside doors, taking the key of the door ( they had gone out by, which they had found inside) away with them. A chisel about 8 inches long, one end of which resembles the head of a claw- hammer, which had been left behind, was found inside the premises. Police officers are requested to make particular search and enquiry at pawn shops, jewellers, and all other likely places, for the above described property. If found and traced to the possession of any person or persons apprehended, or any trace is obtained ot the same, communicate with THOS. NICOL, Superin- tendent of Police. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. Angus M. Campbell, an accountant ( embezzlefnent of £ 140), not arrested; Hue- arid- Cry, 16th March, 1886. Charles M'Nab ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue and- Cry, 6th April, 1886. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE G Division. PARTICULAES relative to Convict John Walsh, A 96, convicted at Kilkenny, at Michaelmas Sessions, on 9 th October, 1879, for cattle stealing, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born at Mooncoin, county Kilkenny, no fixed place of residence; brown hair turning gray, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 7£ inches high; B. C. on left side, burn mark on inside left ankle and above left knee. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison, the 8th February, 1886, and went to Waterford. He left Tram ore on the 5 th inst., stating he was going to look for lodgings, but he has not since been heard of, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act, 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. Prisons Board, June 15, 1886. ( 32599 M.— 60856.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John O'Brien, A. 323, convicted in Dublin at Commission, on 6th August, 1881, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, 40 years of age on conviction, single, a labourer, born in Dublin, resided before conviction in Dublin ; gray hair, blue eyes, light- brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fair complexion, thin oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, right arm has been broken, and cross and " John Brien " on same, ship, " D " enclosed in lighthouse on breast, lump behind left ear, burn mark on left leg. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licence, 11th January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He has left his residence, 33, Coombe, without notifying same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, JULY 6, 1886. m NFPPIE PARTICULARS relative to convict Frederick Benson, A333, convicted in Dublin, at Recorder's Court, on 12th October, 1881, for assault and bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a painter; born in Dublin, resided before conviction in South King- street, Dublin ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet inches high; cut scar right side of head, anchor on left forearm. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, 8th December, 1885, on licence, and went to reside at 111, Bride- street, Dnblin. He left his residence without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 84 & 35 Vic., cap. 113. General Prisons Board, April 19,1885. ( 33249 M.— 60360.) DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tingod with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, fenerally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. [ e is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict John herbert ( not reporting himself to the Police), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th January, 1886. Convict, James Schriber, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict, Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. DESCRIPTION of James Colwell ( mother's surname M'Whirter), native of Mullinsallagh, who stands chargod with having, on the 15th day of May, 1886, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Portglenone, seriously assaulted Hugh Burnett, by striking him on the head with a spade, and thereby endangering his life :— Very sleepy looking, very heavy eyelids, holds his head erect when speaking to any one, as if unable to raise his eyelids ; gray eyes, long sharp nose, pale complexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair, small moustache ; wore a sealskin cap, black coat, moleskin trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Charles O'Higgins, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 8th June, 1886, in Lurgan, in the barony of Oneiland East, parish of Shankhill, fired at and wounded several persons in a riot:— Swaggering gait, slightly bow- legged, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a grocer's assistant and book- keeper. DESCRIPTION of a person, reputed to be John Neill, or O'Neill, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd April, 1886, in the barony of West Division East Carbery, parish of Kilkerranmore, murdered Daniel Neill, of Knocks District, Dunmanway, Sub- District Ballygurteen, by shooting him with a revolver :— Wants forefinger of right hand, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair; wore a sack- shaped dark coat, light trowsers like doeskin, check flannel shirt; is a nawy, lately on Clonakilty and Ballydehob New Rail- way; returned American. Dunmanway, April 4, 1886. ( 73708 c.- 26999.) Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Dublin. The property of Mrs. Hannah Mathews, which was stolen from her house, Richmond- road, on the night of the 26th or morning of the 27th March, 1886, has not been recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 30th March, 1886. The articles, the property of William George Edmonds, which were stolen from his dwelling- house, have not been recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 12th March, L886. James Smith ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th February, 1886. Fermanagh. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. ^^ DESCRIPTION of Robinson Gibson, native of Yorkshire, who stands charged with having, on the 19th May, 1886, in the barony of Galway, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen £ 23 8s. in gold, silver, and copper, the property of Captain C. H. Cox, of the West York Regiment:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5f inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair ; wore a black jacket, brown trowsers, and black vest; is a private soldier of the West York Regiment, and was acting as servant to Captain Cox. Galway, May 21, 1886. ( 74530 o.— 28406.) DESCRIPTION of Joseph Greene, native of Mace ( Carna), who stands charged with having, on the 9th January, 1886, in the barony of Ballynahinch, parish of Moyrus, seriously assaulted John Corbett, by striking him with a stone on the head, and being bailed to stand his trial at the present Galway Spring Assizes, tailed to do so :— Down- looking appearance, dark whiskers, recently clipped very short, gray eyes, ordinary nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black soft hat, dark gray frieze coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. He will endeavour to emigrate to America, and it is believed he may have already done so. Warrant ordered for his arrest. Roundstone, March 19,1886. ( 72603 c.— 26584.) The watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd February last, have not been recovered ; Hue- and- Cry, 26th February, 1886. John Wood ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 5th January, 1886. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of two sets of harness, the property of the Honorable R. A. Winn, which were stolen from his coach- house at Rossbeigh, in the parish of Glenbehy, and barony of Iveragh, on night of 25th June, 1886, viz. :— One set of old silver- mounted double harness, minus one pair of hames and traces left behind, crest and motto on winkers and housing; value for £ 3; one set of single silvered- mouSted harness, nearly new, hames fully plated, crest and motto in three places on winkers, also on housing; value for £ 14; one plain saddle without stirrups ; value £ 1 10s. The crest comprises a dragon surmounting a wreath, enclosing the letters " R. A. W." with the motto " virtute et labore " in raised letters. Killorglin, June 27, 1886. ( 75008 c.— 29398.) DESCRIPTION of John Morrissey ( mother's SUNRIE Daly), native of Brosna, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 4th instant, in the ( Sarony of Trughenackmy, parish of Brosna, fired twio shots into the dwelling- house of Hanoria Casey, with intent to kill or maim the inmates thereof:— Probably has fresh cuts or bruises on head or face, dark eyes, long sharp pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, black hair, heavy eyebrows, small black moustache, a returned American, speaks through his nose with a Yankee twang, may have a revolver in pocket over seat of trowsers ; wore a black sealskin cap, gray tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a cooper. Jeremiah Healy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 23rd February, 1886. Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of John Cassidy, native of Sallins, who stands charged with having, on the 15th June, 1886, at Sallins, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Bodenstown, forcibly entered the stables and stores of the Grand Canal Company at Sallins, and carried away about 12 stone of potatoes, four small chickens, and a horse clipping machine, the property of the agent of the Company, Thomas Daly :— Gray wild eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a dark tweed trowsers and corduroy vest with sleeves; is a labourer. Naas, June ] 6, 1886. ( 74849 c.— 29071.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Brady, native place not known, who stands charged with having, on the 8th day of June, 1886, in the barony of Clane, parish of Mainham, murdered Anne Ennis:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, ahout 30 years of age, dark brown hair, and black moustache ; wore around hard hat, tweed coat, old Royal Irish Constabulary trowsers, and tweed vest; is a tramp, and apparently discharged soldier or militia man. This man is remanded for examination on 17th instant; anything known of him should be communicated to the District Inspector at Robertstown. Robertstown, June 13, 1886. The man, name and native place unknown, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 9th February, 1886 ( charged with having set fire to a rick of hay), has not heen arrested. King's DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 21st June, 1886, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's county:— Timothy Costigan, No. 989, 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight make, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, regular nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage, cut mark on forehead. Formerly belonged to Tullore, Ballyroan, Maryboro', his parents reside at Tullore. The school dress, all with reformatory stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers, vest, and tunic, elastic belt, blue cloth Scotch cap, blucher boots, No. 989. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of Maurice Lee, native of Dumore, county Waterford, and Patrick Johnston, native of Strokestown, county Roscommon, who stand charged with having, on the 10th day of June, 1886, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, failed to give a satisfactory account of themselves in Birr Workhouse, and it is believed they may have committed offences elsewhere:— < 4 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, gray hair, gray whiskers cut short; wore a gray tweed cap, dark brown tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. DKSCR^ BON of Convict James Ivers, A 421, native of Dublin% onvicted 11th February, 1882, at Dublin, of larceny, ffpm the person, with violence, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— Burn mark on right elbow, feftWe dim, no hair on eyebrows or eyelids, gray eyes,' flat nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 7 § inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; is a labourer. This man • was released on Licence from Mountjoy Prison, on 10th April, 1886, and stated his intention of residing at Tullamore, to which place he has not came, and his present whereabouts is unknown. P. ; supposed to reside in the neighbourhood of Killkishen, district of Tulla, and county Clare ;— Round scooped shoulders, short cocked nose, fair reddish complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, between 40 and 50 years of age, sandy hair and whiskers all round face ; wore a gray frieze coat; appeared to be a countryman. DESCRIPTION of John Ward ( mother's surname Kemmit), native of Sligo, and James Hever ( mother's surname Quinn), native of Grassey- hill, Sligo, who stand charged with having, on the 12th day of June, 1886, at Sligo, in the barony of Carbury, parish of St. John's, formed part of a riotous mob who broke windows and threw stones at the police, No. 1 taking a leading part in the riots :— 1. Halt in right knee, which is stiff and a little bent, fair tuft of beard on chin turning gray, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair turning gray; wore a low hard black hat, dark coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest, elastic shoes ; is a delph dealer. Gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair, small dark moustache; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant. DESCRIPTION of William Carey, native of Ballina- clash, who stands charged with having, on the 18th June, 1886, in the barony of Ballinacor South, parish of Ballykine, committed a rape :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, fair whiskers and hair; wore a black hat, dark coat, and barracan trowsers; is a labourer, and may look for work in counties Wexford or Dublin. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 4th June, 1886, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School, county Wicklow:— John Newsome, No. 1,961 ; about 16 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 5 feet 3 inches high, rather slender make, " fresh, but tanned complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, long and regular nose, ordinary mouth, long visage, cut mark on forehead, and " J. N." on left arm. Formerly belonged to Santry, county Dublin. His parents are dead. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, check shirt, cloth ( Scotch make) cap, strong and nailed boots, No. 1,961. The trowsers, jacket, waistcoat, and cap described above have been found, and he is supposed to have instead a double- peaked dark gray cap, a snuff- coloured corduroy trowsers, a tweed vest, and a faded cloth jacket, neither of which is branded. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1.
