DUBLIN, FRIDAY, JUNE 18, 1886. ENGLISH POLICE. AHSCONDED on the 18th ultimo, and now charged on a Warrant with embezzling £ 97, the moneys of liis employers:— John Hindley, a commercial traveller, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, Stout build, very full chest, round face, fair com- plexion, brown hair, slight light moustache and whiskers on chin, slightly pockpitted on each side of nose, walks very erect, and weirs hat on back of head ; dressed in dark tweed suit and billycock hat. May endeavour to go abroad or seek employment as a traveller at drapery establishments. He is married, and his family reside in Seacombe, Cheshire. Kindly cause every possible enquiry to be made at all likely places for this man, who has not yet left the country, and if found arrest and telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. N Detectivo Department, Liverpool, June 6, 1886. ( 32559 M.— S0779.) ABSCONDED on the 18th inst,, charged with stealing a gentleman s three- quarter- plate gold lever watch, No. 105583, and gold Albert chain, massive curb link pattern, stamped 18 carat, with an oval shaped gold medallion pendant attached, one side a repre- sentation of the Prince of Wales' arms, and initials " A. E.," and on obverse side " H. R. H. the Prince of Wales. India. 1875 and 1876 " :— Arthur Stanlay Beecli, nlias Wilson, a gunner of the Lancashire Division Royal Artillery, No. 53332, 30 years of age, 6 feet inches, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, small finger right hand crooked, representation cf " man with basket" tattooed on left forearm. He is also wanted for deserting the Regiment. Information to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Super- intendent Detective Depar'ment, Liverpool, May 19, 1886. ( 32485 M — 60613.) ABSCONDED on the 22nd instant, stealing £' 200, the moneys of . his employers, William George Joseph De Costa, a clerk:— 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inchos high, proportionate build, sloping shoulders, prominent nose, small gray eyes, fair complexion, light brown curly hair, heavy dark'brown moustache, whiskers shaved off, end of little finger crushed right hand, slight flesh scar right temple, thick neck, muscular legs. Dressed respectably, may be wear- ing a brown hat, round scarf pin with circle of pearls, a gold chain with Chinese coin pierced in centre attached. Is well known to captains of American ships, and may be found in their company. Please cause every possible inquiry to be made at American bars, hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if found arrest, or if traced away telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cronin, native of Mill- street, Cork, a Police Constable, absconding, and charged on a Warrant with embezzling £ 49 and up- wards, the moneys of the overseers:— 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, scar on bridge of nose, slight dark moustache, no whiskers; is a labourer; was employed by Mr. Mann, market gardenbr, Isleworth, Middlesex, previous to his joining the Force. STOLEN, between 12th March and 22nd April, 1886, from the Hill Pasture on the farm of Harperston e, in the parish of Ardoch, and county of Perth, 43 or thereby blackfaced ewes, of different ages, from two to six years, marked as follows- :-— Hornburn, " m n on ei'her horn ( according to age) ; lugmark, nip above left lug; buist, " m " on either side. A'so stolen, between 1st ( larch and 10th April, 188b, from the Hill Pasture on the farm of fendoch, in the parish of Crieff, and county of Perth, ' 27 or thereby blackfaced ewes, of different ages, marked as follows :— Lugmark, nip above right lug, nip below left lug > hornburn, " M " on right horn, and age figure on left horn. The whole of the ewes at both places were dipped, and all are supposed to have been in lamb, and are now likely grazing with their lambs. The police are requested to make particular search and inquiry at auction mart « , railway stations, graziers, shepherds, and others for the above des- cribed sheep, and forward any information obt! A chisel about 8 inches long, one end of which resembles the head of a claw- hammer, which had been left behind, was found inside the premises. Police officers are requested to make particular search and enquiry at pawn shops, jewellers, and all other likely places, for the above described property. If found and traced to the possession of any person Or persons apprehended, or any trace is obiained ot same, communicate with Thos. Nicol, Superin- tendent of Police. Burgh Chambers, Alloa, 5 th June, 1886. ( 32560 M.-— 60780.) INVERNESS- SHIRE CONSTABULARY. WANTED at Inverness, on a charge of embezzle- ment, Alexander Simpson, native of Inverness, lately Grocer and Accountant there :— About 65 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, gray hair ( white), gray whiskers ( white) all round, blue eyes ; generally dresffifl in aihv. k coat and vest, dark gray trowsers, dark overcoat, and satin hat, well dressed, and of respectable appearance ; walks- erect, and has a slow step. The accused was Clerk and Treasurer to the Trustees of the Mackintosh Farr Fund, and is charged with embezzling large sums of money belonging to that fund. He left Inverness about 5 weeks ago, and went to London, but may endeavour to leave the country. A Sheriff's Warrant has been granted for his apprehension. Police officers are requested to make every search and inquiry for the accused at shipping offices and at outward- bound vessels. If found, apprehend and detain, and wire to the Procurator- Fiscal or Chief Constable, the Castle, Inverness, when he will be sent for. If any trace is obtained of him, com- municate with A. Campbell, an accountant ( embezzlement of £ 140), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1886. Charles M'Nab ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue and- Cry, 6th April, 1886. ... THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, JUNE 15, 1886. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE G Division. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Walsh, A 90, convicted at Kilkenny, at Michaelmas Sessions, on 9th October, 1879, for cattle stealing, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born at Mooncoin, county Kilkenny, no fixed place of residence; brown hair turning gray, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 7^ inches high; B. C. on left side, burn mark on inside left anklo and above left knee. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison, the 8th February, 1886, and went to Waterford. He left Tramore on the 5th inst., stating he was going to look for lodgings, but he has not since been heard of, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act, 34 & 35 Vic,, cap. 112. ( 38599 m.— 60856.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John O'Brien, A. 323, convicted in Dublin at Commission, on Cth August, 1881, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, 40 years of ago on conviction, single, a labourer, born in Dublin, resided before conviction in Dublin ; gray hair, blue eyes, light- brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fair complexion, thin oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, right arm has been broken, and cross and " John Brien " on same, ship, " D " enclosed in lighthouse on breast, lump behind left ear, burn mark on left leg. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licence, 11th January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He has left his residence, 33, Coombe, without notifying same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., oap. 112. General Prisons Board, May 27, 1886. ( 33511M.— 60667.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Benson, A333, convicted in Dublin, at Recorder's Court, on 12th October, 1881, for assault and bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a painter; born in Dublin, resided before conviction in South King- street, Dublin ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet inches high; cut scar right side of head, anchor on left forearm. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, 8th December, 1885, on licence, and went to reside at 111, Bride- street, Dublin. He left his residence without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 113. General Prisons Board, April 19,1885. ( 33349 M.— 60360.) PARTICULARS relative to English Police Supervisee Patrick O'Donald, alias Hugh Lapping, convicted at Salford, county Lancaster, at Sessions, on 7 July, 1884, for stealing a coat after a prior conviction, and sentenced to 15 calendar months and 5 years police supervision ; 24 years of age on conviction, single, is a plasterer, born in Glasgow, resided before con- viction at 27, Gun- street, Manchester :— Brown hair, gray eyes, pale complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 3 inches high; burn marks on left fore- arm. This supervisee was discharged from Knutsford Prison on 6th October, 1885, and went to reside at 6, Millfield- place, Belfast, which place ho left on or about the 1st instant, and is supposed to have gone to Liverpool. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 38th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state :— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tingod with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressod in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDT, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superintendent's Office, G Division, July 8(|, 1885. ( 30961 M.— 58008.) In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict Thomas Brown, who escaped from Lusk Prison on the 10th instant, and was described in last Hue- and- Cry, has been recaptured. Convict John Herbert ( not reporting himself to the Police), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th January, 1886. Convict, James Schriber, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict, Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. Convict James Slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 5th January, 1886. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of a horse, the property of James Dunne, which was stolen from the lands of Wood- burn, parish of Shankill, barony of Belfast Upper, on the 3rd June, 1886;— Dark bay yearling colt, recently castrated, white spot on each hind foot, gray hairs in the tail, and walks wide with the hind legs. Lisburn, June 9, * 886. ( 74694 c.— 38713.) DESCRIPTION of James Colwell ( mother's surname M'Whirter), native of Mullinsallagh, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of May, 1886, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Portglenone, seriously assaulted Hugh Burnett, by striking him on the head with a spade, and thereby endangering his life :— Very sleepy looking, very heavy eyelids, holds his head erect when speaking to any one, as if unable to raise his eyelids ; gray eyes, long sharp nose, pale compliexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 35 years of age, fair hair, small moustache ; wore a sealskin cap, black coat, moleskin trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Charles O'Higgins, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 8th June, 1886, in Lurgan, in the barony of Oneiland East, parish of Shankhill, fired at and wounded several persons in a riot:— Swaggering gait, slightly bow- legged, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a grocer's assistant and book- keeper. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cavan. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Clare. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Sexton, native of Mount- ecott, who stands charged with having, on the 1st December, 1885, in the barony of Ibrickane, parish of Kilfarboy, seriously assaulted John O'Neill, by striking him on the head with a stone, from the effects of which his life is now in danger :— A well- built hardy man, sullen down looking appearance, gray eyes, long nose, yellow swarthy complexion,. / long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about' 40 years of age, brown hair; wore''^ brown hat, faded whitish tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a small farmer and cattle dealer. DESCRIPTION of Michael Buckley, native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 29th May, 1886, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Maclonugh, stolen two sheep, the property of William Connell, off his farm at Shonagare:— Cut marks on upper lip and side of head, one tooth missing in front of mouth, bald, gray or blue eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, 50 years of age; wore a dark frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and vest; is a dairyman. DESCRIPTION of a person, reputed to be John Neill, or O'Neill, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd April, 1886, in the barony of West Division East Carbery, parish of Kilkerranmore, murdered Daniel Neill, of Knocks District, Dunmanway, Sub- District Ballygurteen, by shooting him with a revolver :— Wants forefinger of right hand, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair; wore a sack- shaped dark coat, light trowsers like doeskin, check flannel shirt; is a navvy, lately on Clonakilty and Ballydehob New Rail- way; returned American, Dunmanway, April 4, 1886. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- cry, 4th December, 1885. Down. DESCRIPTION of Arthur Tilbey, says he is from London, who has been returned for trial to Newry Quarter Sessions of 29th June next, charged with having, on the 22nd April, 1886, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Clonallon, obtained money under false pretences, by representing himself as an agent of the Loyal and Patriotic Union ;— Smart active appearance, well set- up, swaggering gait, looks as if he had served in the army; has a sore mark on left cheek, near corner of eye ; speaks quickly, with strong English accent; wears small side whiskers, moustache, and imperial which are fair; large gray eyes, hooked nose, fresh complexion, bloated face, very stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 36 or 37 years of age, rather fair hair ; wore a round black hat, worsted coat, tweed trowsers, worsted vest ( all much worn). It is requested that any information regarding him may be communicated to- the District Inspector at Rathfriland. Rathfriland, May 5,1886. ( 74146 c.— 27749.) Dublin. The property of Mrs. Hannah Mathews, which was stolen from her house, Richmond- road, on the night of the 26th or morning of the 27th March, 1886, has not been recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 30th March, 1886. The articles, the property of William George Edmonds, which were stolen from his dwelling- house, have not been recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 12th March, 1886. James Smith ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th February, 1886. Fermanagh. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of Robinson Gibson, native of Yorkshire, who stands charged with ha- waig, on the 19th May, 1886, in the barony of Galway parish of St. Nicholas, stolen £ 23 8s. in gold, silver, and copper, the property of Captain C. H. Cox, of the West York Regiment:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5 J inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair ; wore a black jackel, brown trowsers, and black vest; is a private soldier of the West York Regiment, and was acting as servant to Captain Cox. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Greene, native of Mace ( carna), who stands charged with having, on the 9th January, 1886, in the barony of Ballynahinch, parish of Moyrus, seriously assaulted John Corbett, by striking him with a stone on the head, and being bailed to stand his trial at the present Galway Spring Assizes, tailed to do so :— Down- looking appearance, dark whiskers, recently clipped very short, gray eyes, ordinary nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black soft bat, dark gray frieze coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. He will endeavour to emigrate to America, and it is believed he may have already done so. Warrant ordered for his arrest. Roundstone, March 19,1886. ( 72603 c.— 26584.) The watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd February last, have not been recovered ; Hue- and- Cry, 26th February, 1886. DESCRIPTION of John Morrissey ( mother's surname Daly), native of Brosna, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 4th instant, in the barony of Trughonackmy, parish of Brosna, fired two shots into the dwelling- house of Hanoria Casey, with intent to kill or maim the inmates thereof:— Probably has fresh cuts or bruises on head or face, dark eyes, long sharp pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 80 years of age, black hair, heavy eyebrows, small black moustache, a returned American, speaks through his nose with a Yankee twang, may have a revolver in pocket over seat of trows'ers ; Wore a black sealskin cap, gray tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a cooper. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Brady, native place not known, who stands charged with having, on the 8th day of June, 1886, in the barony of Clane, parish of Mainham, murdered Anne Ennis ^- Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair, and black moustache ; wore a round hard hat, tweed coat, old Royal Irish Constabulary trowsers, and tweed vest; is a tramp, and apparently discharged soldier or militia man. This man is remanded for examination on 17th instant; anything known of him should be communicated to the District Inspector at Robertstown. Robertstown, June 13, 1886. The man, name and native place unknown, described in the Hue- and- Ory of 9th February, 1886 ( charged with having set fire to a rick of hay), has not been arrested. Kilkenny. The three persons, names and native places un- known, charged with having committed a highway robbery, anil described 111 Hue- and- Cry of 80th of last April, have not been arrested. King's DESCRIPTION of Maurice Lee, native of Dumore, county Waterford, and Patrick Johnston, native of Strokestown, county Roscommon, who stand charged with having, on the 10th day of June, 1886, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of 13irr, failed to give a satisfactory account of themselves in Birr Workhouse, and it is believed they may have committed offences elsewhere:— 1. Cicatrice on right jaw, dark brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7^ inches high, about 29 years of age, dark brown hair, dark brown moustache; wore a black soft hat, old dark tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is an army reserve man, 2. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50' years of age, gray hair, gray whiskers cut short; wore a gray tweed cap, dark brown tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest Parsonstown, June 11, 1886. DESCRIPTION of Convict James Ivers, A 421, native of Dublin, convicted 11th February, 1882, at Dublin, of larceny, from the person, with violence, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— Burn mark on right elbow, left eye dim, no hair on eyebrows or eyelids, gray eyes, flat nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7i inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; is a labourer. This man was released on Licence from Mountjoy Prison, on 10th April, 1886, and stated his intention of residing at Tullamore, to which place he has not came, and his present whereabouts is unknown. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, but who gave the name of Andrew Cotter, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of April, 1886, in the borough of Limerick, parish of Saint John's, by fraud and false pretences, obtained from one John Crowe, one sack of flour, one sack of Indian meal, and one cwt. of bran, the property of Thomas Gaffney, Esquire, J. P. ; supposed to reside in the neighbourhood of Killkishen, district of Tulla, and county Clare :— Round stooped shoulders, short cocked nose, fair reddish complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, between 40 and 50 years of age, sandy hair and whiskers all round face ; wore a gray frieze coat; appeared to be a countryman. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 4th June, 1886, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School, county Wicklow:— John Newsome, No. 1,961 ; about 16 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 5 feet 3 inches high, rather slender make, fresh, but tanned complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, long and regular nose, ordinary mouth, long visage, cut msrk on forehead, and " J. N." on left arm. Formerly belonged to Santry, county Dublin. His parents are dead. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, check shirt, cloth ( Scotch make) cap, strong and nailed boots, No. 1,961. The trowsers, jacket, waistcoat, and cap described above have been found, and he is supposed to have instead a double- peaked dark gray cap, a snuff- coloured corduroy trowsers, a tweed vest, and a faded cloth jacket, neither of which is branded. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1.
