DUBLIN, FRIDAY, JUNE 11, 1886. ENGLISH POLICE. J . ABSCONDED on the 18th ultimo, and now charged on a Warrant with embezzling £ 97, the moneys of his employ. - •— John Hindley, a commercial traveller, about 82 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, very full chest, round face, fair com- plexion, brown hair, slight light moustache and whiskers on chin, slightly pockpitted on each side of nose, walks very erect, and wears hat on back of head; dressed in dark tweed suit and billycock hat. May endeavour to go abroad or seek employment as a traveller at drapery establishments. He is married, and his family reside in Seacombe, Cheshire. Kindly cause every possible enquiry to be made at all likely places for this man, who has not yet left the country, and if found arre9t and telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. ABSCONDED on the l$ th inst., charged with stealing & gentleman s three- quarter- plate gold lever watch, No. 105588, and gold Albert chain, massive curb link pattern, stamped 18 carat, with an oval shaped gold medallion pendant attached, one side a repre- sentation of the Prince of Wales' arms, and initials " A. E.," and on obverse side " H. R. H. the Prince of Wales, India, 1875 and 1876 " :— Arthur Stanlay Beech, alias Wilson, a gunner of the Lancashire Division Royal Artillery, No. 53332, 20 years of age, 6 feet inches, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, small finger right hand erooked, representation of " man with basket" tattooed on left forearm. He is also wanted for deserting the Regiment. Information to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Super- intendent. Detective Department, Liverpool, May 19, 1886. ( 32485 M.— 60613.) COMMITTED for trial at the next Assizes, for setting fire to a corn stack, at Ruckcroft, near Penrith, James Douglas:— 42 years of age, tramp, well educated, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, scar on forehead, blue eyes, light brown moustache, light brown hair turning gray, proportionate figure; dressed in an old gray tweed jacket, black cloth waistcoat and trowsers, blue striped cotton shirt, scotch cap, and old lace boots; supposed native of North of Ireland; states that he served 3 years in the Federal cavalry, and that his father was a Doctor of Medicine in Glasgow. On the 15th June, 1885, he was committed a* Thurles, Ireland, for 1 month for deserting from the Carnarvon Militia. On the 30th July, 1886, he was committed to prison for 48 hours at Limerick, for throwing a stone through a window because he was refused a ticket to the Workhouse. In August, 1885, he was committed to Dundalk Prison for 14 days, for assaulting the Workhouse Master at Castleblayney ; and on the 13th November, 1885, he was committed to Preston Prison for 14 days, for non- payment of steamboat fare at Fleetwood. Supposed previously convicted for other offences. Information to Superintendent FOWLER, Penrith. Constabulary Oflice, Penrith, May 10, 1886. ( 32152 M.— 60550.) ABSCONDED on the 22nd iratant, stealing £ 200, the moneys of his employers, William George Joseph De Costa, a clerk:— 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inchos high, proportionate build, sloping shoulders, prominent nose, small gray eyes, fair complexion, light brown curly hair, heavy dark brown moustache, • whiskers shaved off, end of little finger crushed right hand, slight flesh scar right temple, thick neck, muscular legs. Dressed respectably, may be wear- ing a brown hat, round scarf pin with circle of pearls, a gold chain with Chinese coin pierced in centre attached. Is well known to captains of American ships, and may be found in th ir company. Please cause every possible inquiry to be made at American bars, hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if found arrest, or if traced away telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cronin, native of Mill- street, Cork, a Police Constable, absconding, and charged on a Warrant with embezzling £ 49 and up- wards, the moneys of the overseers:— 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, scar on bridge of nose, slight dark moustache, no whiskers ; is a labourer; was employed by Mr. Mann, market gardener, Isleworth, Middlesex, previous to his joining the Force. STOLEN, by means of housebreaking, from a pawn office within this Burgh, on the night of the 3rd or morning of the 4th instant:— A silver Geneva watch, No. 14,912, silver dial, second- handed, value for £ 1; a silver Geneva watch, No. 41,343, white dial, second- handed, value for 12s. 6d.; 18 pairs gold earings, various patterns, value for 4s. 6d. per pair; 1 pair fine gold earings, set with emeralds, value for 15s.; 2 sets 12 carat gold fronts, consisting of 2 wrist studs and 4 front, one set in red plush box and other in green plush box, one set ha3 a fern engraved thereon and the other has a compass and square, value for 5s. per set; 10 gold alberts, 9 carat, various patterns, including two curbs and one with long and short link alternatively, some of which are new and some second- handed, value for £ 2 each; 4 or 5 gold chains, 9 carat ( long), including one secret link pattern, others various patterns, second- haaded, £ 2 10s. each ; 2 silver bangle bracelets, set with pebbles, one of which has the head of a riding whip in shape of " right angle " and a circle set in pebbles, value for 8s. 6d. each; 2 broard silver bracelets, one a buckle pattern, value for 10s. each ; 2 silver alberts, a few close curb, two or so open curbs, some New- gate link, and various others patterns, value for 8e. each; 5 silver chains ( long), various patterns, second- handed, value for 8s. each; 3 silver brooches, including one round, set with 12 brilliants, one large one in centre and remainder all round, and another longish set with 8 brilliants, value for 5s. each; 8 or 9 silver brooches, plain, set with pebbles, value for 2 « . each ; 8 or 9 silver brooches, various patterns, value 2s. 6d. each; 1 silver brooch, pattern four owls sitting on stick, value for 5s. ; 15 plain gold rings, some 9, 18, and 22 carat, 8, 9 carat, value for 6s. 6d.\ 10 rings, 18 and 22 carat, value for 13s. each; 12 gold keepers, 9 carat, value for 7s. each; 18 ladies' gold rings, set with stones of various patterns, some new and some second- handed, value for 6s. each; 6 or 8 gent.' s gold rings, various patterns and stones, some new and some second- handed, value for 8s. each ; 8 gold sets, consisting of brooch and earings, value for 25s. each; 12 silver lockets, various patterns, new, value for 3s. each; 7 silver necklets, two with lockets attached, some new and some second- handed, value for Is. 6d. each; 12 or thereby silver appendages, various patterns, value for Is. 9c?. each; 5 gold lockets, second- handed, value for 8s. each; 12 Mexican silver appendages, value for 9d. each; 8 Mexican silver alberts, new; 12 Canadian gold alberts, value for 2s. 6d. each, new; and a tin box, 9 inches long, 4 inches broad and 5 deep, containing 12s. in copper money, and a number of silver and copper foreign coins. Admittance had been obtained by skeleton keys, or picking one of the outside door locks, and when the thief or thieves were leaving they locked the outside doors, taking the key of the door ( they had gone out by, which they had found inside) away with them. A chisel about 8 inches loDg, one end of which resembles the head of a claw- hammer, which had been left behind, was found inside the premises. Police officers are requested to make particular search and enquiry at pawn shops, jewellers, and all other likely places, for the above described property. If found and traced to the possession of any person or persons apprehended, or any trace is obtained of the same, communicate with THQS. NICOL, Superin- tendent of Police. Burgh Chambers, Alloa, 5 th June, 1886. ( 32560 M.— 60780.) INVERNESS- SHIRE CONSTABULARY. WANTED at Inverness, on a charge of embezzle- ment, Alexander Simpson, native of Inverness, lately Grocer and Accountant there :— About 65 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, gray hair ( white), gray whiskers ( white) all round, blue eyes ; generally dressed in a dark coat and vest, dark gray trowsers, dark overcoat, and satin hat, well dressed, and of respectable appearance ; walks erect, and has a slow step. The accused was Clerk and Treasurer to the Trustees of the Mackintosh Farr Fund, and is charged with embezzling large sums 6f money belonging to that fund. He left Inverness about 5 weeks ago, and went to London, but may endeavour to leave the country. A Sheriff's Warrant has been granted for his apprehension. Police officers are requested to make every search and inquiry for the accused at shipping offices and at outward- bound vessels. If found, apprehend and detain, and wire to the Procurator- Fiscal or Chief Constable, the Castle, Inverness, when he will be sent for. If any trace is obtained of him, com- municate with A. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. Angus M. Campbell, an accountant ( embezzlement of £ 140), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1886. Charles M'Nab ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hueand- Cry, 6th April, 1886. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE G Division. PARTICULARS relative to convict Thomas Brown, who is missing from Lusk Prison, where he was last seen about 11.20 a. m., on the 10th June, 1836, con- victed at county Londonderry Sessions, on the 13 th June, 1881, for receiving stolen goods, and sentenced J THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, JUNE 11, 1886. to 7 years' penal servitude:— 23 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, a labourer; born at St. Columb's Well, Lon- donderry, whero he resided before conviction, his frionds also reside there; brown hair, black eyes, black eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, ruptured, ulcer mark on left thigh, walks Stifly, wore a black monkey coat, and cord trowsers. Notice.— A reward of from £ 3 to £ 5 may be paid to any person who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected his escape from a Government Prison. Application to be made to the Governor of the Prison. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by any means whatever aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be puilty of felony,- and being convicted thereof, shall bs kept in penal servi- tude for any teryi not less than 6 nor more than 8 years. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John O'Brien, A. 328, convicted in Dublin at Commission, on 6th August, 1881, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, 40 years of age on conviction, single, a labourer, born in Dublin, resided beforo conviction in Dublin ; gray hair, blue eyes, light- brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fair complexion, thin oval visage, rpodium make, 5 foet 7 inches high, right arm has beon broken, and oross and '' John Brien " on same, ship, " D " enclosed in lighthouso^ on breast, lump behind left ear, burn mark on left leg. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licenoe, 11th January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He has left his residence, 33, Coombe, without notifying same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5 th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, May 27, 1886. ( 32511M.— 60667.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Benson, A838, convicted in Dublin, at Recorder's Court, on 12th October, 1881, for assault and bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a painter; born in Dublin, resided before conviction in South King- street, Dublin ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, fre3h com- lexion, oval visage, stout make, 6 feet inches igh; cut scar right side of head, anchor on left forearm. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, 8th December, 1885, on licence, and went to reside at 111, Bride- street, Dnblin. He left his residence without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 84 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, April 19,1885. ( 33249 M.— 60360.) PARTICULARS relative to English Police Supervisee Patrick O'Donald, alias Hugh Lapping, convicted at Salford, county Lancaster, at Sessions, on 7 July, 1884, for stealing a coat after a prior conviction, and sentenced to 15 calendar months and 5 years police supervision • 24 years of age on conviction, single, is a plasterer, born in Glasgow, resided before con- viction at 27, Gun- streot, Manchester :— Brown hair, gray eyes, pale complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 3 inches high; burn marks on left fore- arm. This supervisee was discharged from Knutsford Prison on 6th October, .1885, and went to reside at 5, Millfield- place, Belfast, which place ho left on or about the 1st instant, and is supposed to have gone to Liverpool. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Superintendent's Office, G Division, July 80, 1885. ( 30961 M.— 58003.) In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Cork. DESCRIPTION of a person, reputed to be John Neill, or O'Neill, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd April, 1886, in the barony of West Division East Carbery, pirish of Kilkerranmore, murdered Daniel Neill, of Knocks District, Dunmanway, Sub- District Ballygurteen, by shooting him with a revolver :— Wants forefinger of right hand, regular no^ e, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair; wore a sack- shaped dark coat, light trowsers like doeskin, check flannel shirt; is a navvy, lately on Clonakilty and Ballydehob New Rail- way; returned American. Dunmanway, April 4, 1886. ( 78708 c.- 26999.) Convict John Walsh, described in Hue- and- Cry of 18th of List month, has been arrested. Convict John Herbert ( not reporting himself to the Police), ijot arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th January, 1886. Convict, James Schriber, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict, Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last mooth, has not been arrested. Convict James Slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. j Antrim. DESCRIPTION of a horse, the property of James Dunne, which was stolen from the lands of Wood- burn, parish of Shankill, barony of Belfast Upper, on the 3rd June, 1886 :— Dark bay yearling colt, recently castrated, white spot on each hind foot, gray hairs in the tail, and wnlks wide with the hind legs. ( 74694 c.— 28713 ) DESCRIPTION of James Colwell ( mother's surname M'Whirter), native of Mullinsallagh, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of May, 1886, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Portglenone, seriously assaulted Hugh Burnett, by striking him on the head with a spade, and thereby endangering his life :— Very sleepy looking, very heavy eyelids, holds his head erect when speaking to any one, as if unable to raise his eyelids ; gr$ y eyes, long sharp nose, pale complexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair, small moustache ; wore a sealskin cap, black coat, moleskin trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cavan. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hue- snd- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Clare. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Sexton, native of Mount- scott, who stands charged with having, on the 1st December, 1885, in the barony of Ibrickane, parish of Kilfarboy, seriously assaulted John O'Neill, by striking him on the head with a stone, from the effects of which his life is now in danger :— A well- built hardy man, sullen down looking appearance, gray eyes, long nose, yellow swarthy complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair; wore a brown hat, faded whitish tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a small farmer and cattle dealer. Ennistymon, April 2, 1886. ( 73800 c.— 27157.) DESCRIPTION of a watch, stolen from the dwelling, house of James Clune, of Capparoe, parish of Tomgraney, and barony of Tulla Upper, between the 15th and 18th March, 1886 :— Silver Geneva Watch, No. 43,496, initialled on back " M. J. C."; maker, Ryan, Limerick ; supposed stolen by a man who gave the name of Thomas Ryan ( described below), and who worked for James Clune from the 16th to the 18th March, 1886. Nose much turned up, sallow complexion, black hair, about 5 feet high, no whiskers, about 18 years of age, dressed in a black coat, and wore a cap. Killaloe, March 29, 1886. ( 73635 c.—- 26847.) Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 4th December, 1885. Down. DESCRIPTION of Arthur Tilbey, says he is fr » m London, who has been returned for trial to Newry Quarter Sessions of 29th June next, char ed with having, on the 22nd April, 1886, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Clonallon, obtained money under false pretences, by representing himself as an agent of the Loyal and Patriotic Union :-- Smart active appearance, well set- up, swaggering gait, looks as if he had served in the army; has a sore ms* rk on left cheek, near corner of eye ; speaks quickly, with strong Engli h accent; wears small side whiskers, moustache, and imperial which are fair; lirge gray eyes, hooked nose, fresh complexion, bloated face, very stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 36 or 37 years of age, rather fhir hair; wore a round black hat, worsted coat, tweed t- owsers, worsted vest ( all much worn). It is requested that any information regarding him may be communicated to the District Inspector at Rathfriland. Rathfriland, May 5,1886. ( 74146 c.— 27749.) Dublin. The property of Mrs. Hannah Mathews, which was stolen from her house, Richmond- road, on the night of the 26th or morning of the 27th March, 1886, has not been recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 30th March, 1886. The articles, the property of William George Edmonds, which were stolen from his dwelling house, have not been recovered; Hue- and- Cry, 12th March, 1886. James Smith ( robbery of money), not arrested] Hue- and- Cry, 16th February, 1886. Fermanagh. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of Robinson Gibson, native of Yorkshire, who stands charged with having, on the 19th May, 1886, in the barony of Galway, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen £ 23 8s. in gold, silver, and copper, the property of Captain C. H. Cox, of the West York Regiment:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5| inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair ; wore a black jacket, brown trowsers, and black vest; is a private soldier of the West York Regiment, and was acting as servant to Captain Cox. Galway, May 21, 1886. ( 74530 c.— 28406.) DESCRIPTION of Joseph Greene, native of Mace ( Carna), who stands charged with having, on the 9th January, 1886, in the barony of Ballynahinch, parish of Moyrus, seriously assaulted John Corbett, by striking him with a stone on the head, and being bailed to stand his trial at the present Galway Spring Assizes, failed to do so :— Down- looking appearance, dark whiskers, recently clipped very short, gray eyes, ordinary nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black soft hat, dark gray frieze coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. He will endeavour to emigrate to America, and it is believed he may have already done so. Warrant ordered for his arrest. Roundstone, March 19,1886. ( 72603 c.— 265 84.) The watches and other property, stolen from John i P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd February last, have not been recovered ; Hue- and- Cry, 26th February, 1886. DESCRIPTION of John Morrissey ( mother's surname Duly), native of Brosna, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 4th instant, in the barony of Trughonackmy, parish of Brosna, fired two shots into the dwelling- house of Hanoria Casey, with intent to kill or maim the inmates thereof:— Probably has fresh outs or bruises on head or face, dark eyes, long shurp pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, " J feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 80 yoars of age, black hair, heavy eyebrows, small black moustache, a returned American, speaks through his nose wi'h a Yai kee twang, may have a revolver in pocket over seat of trowsers ; wore a black sealskin cap, gray tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a cooper. P. ; supposed to reside in the neighbourhood of Killkishen, district of Tulla, and county Clare :— Round stooped shoulders, short cocked nose, fair reddish complexion, medium make, • 5 feet 5 inches high, between 40 and 50 years of age, sandy hair and whiske s all round face; wore a gray frieze coat; appeared to be a countryman. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 8th May, 1886, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree :— John M'Grath, No. 2,132, about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet high, stout make, fair complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, ordinary i ose and mouth, round visage, blue dot on left hand near thumb. Formerly belonged to Talbot- street, Dublin. His parents are dead. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, cloth cap ( Scotch make), strong and nailed boots, No. 2,132. Had a rather simple- looking appearance, usually half smiling He took with him an old white hat and a faded serge coat belonging to one of the masons. Was seen going in the direction of Oastle- dermot, where he has an uncle. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 4th June, 1886, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School, county Wicklow:— John Newsome, No. 1,961 ; about 16 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 5 feet 3 inches high, rather slender make, fresh, but tanned complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, long and regular nose, ordinary mouth, long visage, cut mark on forehead, and " J. N." on left arm. Formerly belonged to Santry, county Dublin. His parents are dead. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, check shirt, cloth ( Scotch make) cap, strong and nailed boots, No. 1,961. The trowsers, ja? ket, waistcoat, and cap described above have been found, and he is supposed to have instead a double- peaked dark gray cap, a snuff- coloured corduroy trowsers, a tweed vest, and a faded cloth j acket, neither of which is branded. This man was released on Licence from Mountjoy Prison, on lOta April, 1886, and stated his intention of residing at Tullamore, to which place he has not came, and bis present whereabouts is unknown.
