No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. *„* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, Ac., anil of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. ENGLI8H POLICE. t ABSCONDED on the 18th inst, charged with stealing a gentleman s three- quarter- plate gold lever watch, No. 105.188, and gold Albert chain, massive curb link pattern, stamped 18 carat, with an oval shaped gold medallion pendant attached, one side a repre- sentation of the Prince of Wales' arms, and initials " A. E.," and on obverse side " H. R. H. the Prince of Wales, India, 1875 and 1876 " :— Arthur Stanlay Beech, alias Wilson, a gunner of the Lancashire Division Royal Artillery, No. 53332, 20 years of age, 6 feet 6£ inches, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, small finger right hand crooked, representation of " man with basket" tattooed on left forearm. COMMITTED for trial at the next Assizes, for setting fire to a corn stack, at Ruckcroft, near Penrith, James Douglas :— 42 years of age, tramp, well educated, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, scar on forehead, blue eyes, light brown moustache, light brown hair turning gray, proportionate figure; dressed in an old gray tweed jacket, black cloth waistcoat and trowsers, blue striped cotton shirt, scotch cap, and old lace boots; supposed native of North of Ireland; states that he served 3 years in the Federal cavalry, and that his father was a Doctor of Medicine in Glasgow. On the 15th June, 1885, he was committed a* Thurles, Ireland, for 1 month for deserting from the Carnarvon Militia. On the 30th July, 1885, he was committed to prison for 48 hours at Limerick, for throwing a stone through a window because he was refused a ticket to the Workhouse, l'n August, 1885, be was committed to Dundalk Prison for 14 days, for assaulting the Workhouse Master at Castleblayney ; and on the 13th November, 1885, he was committed to Preston Prison for 14 days, lor non- payment of steamboat fare at Fleetwood. Supposed previously convicted for other offences. Information to Superintendent FOWLER, Penrith. Constabulary Office, Penrith, May 10, 1886. ( 32452 M.— 60550.) ABSCONDED on the 22nd instant, stealing £ 200, the moneys of his employers, William George Joseph De Costa, a clerk;— 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionate build, sloping shoulders, prominent nose, small gray eyes, fair complexion, light brown curly hair, heavy dark brown moustache, • whiskers shaved off, end of little finger crushed right hand, slight flesh scar right temple, thick neck, muscular legs. Dressed respectably, may be wear- ing a brown hat, round scarf pin with circle of pearls, a gold chain with Chinese coin pierced in centre attached. Is well known to captains of American ships, and may be found in their company. Please cause every possible inquiry to be made at American bars, hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if found arrest, or if traced away telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cronin, native of Mill- street, Cork, a Polioe Constable, absconding, and charged on a Warrant with embezzling £ 49 and up- wards, the moneys of the overseers :— 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, scar on bridge of nose, slight dark moustache, no whiskers ; is a labourer; was employed by Mr. Mann, market gardener, Isleworth, Middlesex, previous to his joining the Force. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent BURTON, Dudley. Dudley, April 21, 1886. ( 32365 M.— 60392.) SCOTCH POLICE. INVERNESS- SHIRE CONSTABULARY. WANTED at Inverness, on a charge of embezzle- ment, Alexander Simpson, native of Inverness, lately Grocer and Accountant there :— About 65 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, gray hair ( white), gray whiskers ( white) all round, blue eyes ; generally dressed in a dark coat and vest, dark gray trowsers, dark overcoat, and satin hat, well dressed, and of respectable appearance ; walks erect, and has a plow step. The accused was Clerk and Treasurer to the Trustees of the Mackintosh Farr Fund, and is charged with embezzling large sums of money belonging to that fund. . ' He left Inverness about 5 weeks ago, and went to London, but may endeavour to leave the country. A Sheriff's Warrant ha^ been granted for his apprehension. Police officers are requested to make every search and inquiry for the accused at shipping offices and at outward- bound vessels. If found, apprehend and detain, and wire to the Procurator- Fiscal or Chief Constable, the Castle, Inverness, when he will be sent for. If any trace is obtained of him, com- municate with A. M'HARDY, Chief Constable of Inverness- shire. The Castle, Inverness, April 30, 1886. ( 32417 M.— 60487.) CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. EMBEZZLEMENT OP £ 140. Wanted here, on a Sheriff's warrant, for embezzle- ment of £ 140, being the proceeds of a Bankrupt's Estate, on which accused acted as Trustee :— Angus M. Campbell, an accountant, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout make, dark com- plexion, dark hair, slight dark side whiskers, no moustache, shaved on chin, brown eyes; dressed ( supposed) in a light checked tweed suit, green or slate coloured overcoat, and square- crowned black felt hat. Is a native of Lochfyneside, Argyleshire, and speaks with a Highland accent. Accused, who absconded on the 11th instant, had an office at 176^, Hope- street, here, and resided at 173, West Graham- street. Police officers are requested to have particular search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, ship- ping offices, and all other likely places, and should he be found, arrest, and communicate with A. Charles M'Nab ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue and- Cry, 6th April, 1886. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE G Division. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John O'Brien, A. 323, convicted in Dublin at Commission, on 6th August, 1881, for lirceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, 40 years of age on conviction, single, a labourer, born in Dublin, resided before conviction in Dublin ) gray hair, blue eyes, light- brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fair complexion, thin oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, right arm has been broken, and cross and " John Brien " on same, ship, " D " enclosed in lighthouse on breast, lump behind left ear, hum mark on left leg. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licence, 11th January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He has left his residence, 33. Coombe, without notifying same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Walsh, A 96, convicted at Kilkenny City, at Michaelmass Sessions, on 9th Octpber, 1879, for cattle stealing, and sentenced to 7years'jenal servitude ;— U> ^ years. < JT age- on' Conviction single, \*< a labourer, Born Mount Coia, county Kilkenny, no flxed^ place residence ; brown hair turning gray, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high; B. C. on left side, burn mark on inside left' • ankle, small burn mark on inside left leg above knee. This man was released from Maryborough Prison, 8th February, 1886, on Licence, and went to Waterford on the 15th ult., he reported to the R. I. C. at Clonmel that he was leaving for Casbel, where, up to the present, he has not reported him- self, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, Dublin Castle, 17 May, 1886. ( 32465 M.— 60581.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Benson, A833, convicted in Dublin, at Recorder's Court, on 12th October, 1881, for assault and bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a painter; born in Dublin, resided before conviction in South King- street, Dublin ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet inches high; cut scar right side of head, ancho,' .. on left forearm. This man was released from Mountj^^ k ison, 8th December, 1885, on licence, and went to^^ de at 111, Bride- street, Dublin. He left his residence without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, April 19,1885. ( 33249 M.— 60360.) PARTICULARS relative to English Police Supervise ® Patrick O'Donald, alias Hugh Lapping, convicted at Salford, county Lancaster, at Sessions, on 7 July, 1884, for stealing a coat after a prior conviction, and sentenced to 1 5 calendar months and 5 years police supervision : 24 years of age on conviction, single, is a plasterer, born in Glasgow, resided before con- viction at 27, Gun- street, Manchester :— Brown hair, gray eyes, pale complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 3 inches high ; burn marks on leit fore- arm. This supervisee was discharged from Knutsford Prison on 6th October, 1885, and went to reside at THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, MAY 28, 1886 5, Millfield- place, Belfast, which place ho left on or about the 1st instant, and is supposed to have gone to Liverpool. DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, laje a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 11a. lOd. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G Division, September 3, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, fenerally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland, [ e is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cavan. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Convict John Herbert ( not reporting himself to tho Police), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th January, 1886. Convict, James Schriber, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict, Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict James Hearty, described in Huc- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. Convict James slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of James Colwell ( mother's surname M'Whirter), native of Mullinsallagh, who stands charged with having, on the 15th clay of May, 1886, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Portglenone, seriously assaulted Hugh Burnett, by striking him on the head with a spade, and thereby endangering his life :— Very sleepy looking, very heavy eyelids, holds his head erect when speaking to any one, as if unable to raise his eyelids ; gray eyes, long sharp nose, pale complexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair, small moustache ; wore a sealskin cap, black coat, moleskin trowsers, a^ black vest; is a labourer. BallymM, May 16, 1886. ( 74346 o.— 2809J.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 6th March, 1886, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— Wm. Joseph Carlisle, 17 years of age, light brown hair, blue eyes, sharp nose, prominent mouth, fresh complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high; born at Belfast; formerly belonged to Belfast; parents reside at 15, Barrow- street, Belfast; sister also residing in Leper- street, Belfast; scar on left side of neck, blue dot between thumb and fore- finger of right hand. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded— Moleskin jacket, moleskin trowsers and blue dongares oversuit, moleskin vest cloth Glengarry cap, blue striped shirt, red and black tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Sexton, native of Mount- scott, who stands charged with having, on the 1st December, 1885, in the barony of Ibrickane, parish of Kilfarboy, seriously assaulted John O'Neill, by striking him on the head with a stone, from the effects of which his life is now in danger :— A well- built hardy man, sullen down looking appearance, gray eyes, loDg nose, yellow swarthy complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair; wore a brown hat, faded whitish tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a small farmer and cattle dealer. DESCRIPTION of a watch, stolen from the dwelling- house of James Clune, of Capparoe, parish of Tomgraney, and barony of Tulla Upper, • between the 15th and 18th March, 1886:— Silver Geneva Watch, No. 43,496, initialled on back " M. J. C."; maker, Ryan, Limerick; supposed stolen by a man who gave the name of Thomas Ryan ( described below), and who worked for James Clune from the 15th to the 18th March, 1886. Nose much turned up, sallow complexion, black hair, about 5 feet high, no whiskers, about 18 years of age, dressed in a black coat, and wore a cap. Killaloe, March 29, 1886. ( 73635 c.— 26847.) Cork. DESCRIPTION of a person, reputed to be John Neill, or O'Neill, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd April, 1886, in the barony of West Division East Carbery, parish of Kilkerranmore, murdered Daniel Neill, of Knocks District, Dunmanway, Sub- District Ballygurteen, by shooting him with a revolver :— Wants forefinger of right hand, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair; wore a sack- shaped dark coat, light trowsers like doeskin, check flannel shirt; is a navvy, lately on Clonakilty and Ballydehob New Rail- way; returned American. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Down. DESCRIPTION of Arthur Tilbey. says he is from London, who has been returned for trial to Newry Quarter Sessions of 29th June next, charged with having, on the 22nd April, 1886, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Clonallon, obtained money under false pretences, by representing himself as an agent of the Loyal and Patriotic Union :— Smart active appearance, well set- up, swaggering gait, looks as if he had served in the army ; has a sore mark on left cheek, near corner of eye ; speaks quickly, with strong English accent; wears small side whiskers, moustache, and imperial which are fair; large gray eyes, hooked nose, fresh complexion, bloated face, very stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 36 or 37 years of age, rather fair hair; wore a round black hat, worsted coat, tweed trowsers, worsted vest ( all much worn). It is requested that any information regarding him may be communicated to the District Inspector at Rathfriland. Rathfriland, May 5,1886. ( 74146 c.— 27749.) Dublin. DESCRIPTION of the property of Mrs. Hannah Mathews, which was stolen from her house, Rich- mond- road, in the parish of Clonturk, barony of Coolock, by some person or persons unknown, on the night of the 26th or morning of the 27th March, 1886 :— A large silver bread- basket, with crest ( lamb and banner) on handle ; a silver horse- shoe brooch, with cap and hunting- whip cut thereon; a small gold brooch, shaped like a vine leaf; a silver brooch, shaped like a violin ; a silver plated pen and pencil- case ; a pair of double white blankets; three gentle- man's neckties, a white calico and a dark blue silk, in which was inserted a gold breast- pin, with yellow hair in it; two pairs of ladies' boots, laced: a lady's mackintosh, black, value about 16s.; a small penknife; a white linen shirt; and a quantit,, « f fair hair, rolled in tissue paper. James Smith ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th February, 1886. Fermanagh. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of Robinson Gibson, native of Yorkshire, who stands charged with having, on the 19th May, 1886, in the barony of Galway, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen £ 23 8s. in gold, silver, and copper, the property of Captain C. H. Cox, of the West York Regiment:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5f inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair ; wore a black jacket, brown trowsers, and black vest; is a private soldier of the West York Regiment, and was acting as servant to Captain Cox. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Greene, native of Mace ( Carna), who stands charged with having, on the 9th January, 1886, in the barony of Ballynahinch, parish of Moyrus, seriously assaulted John Corbett, by striking him with a stone on the head, and being bailed to stand his trial at the present Galway Spring Assizes, tailed to do so :— Down- looking appearance, dark whiskers, recently clipped very short, gray eyes, ordinary nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black soft hat, dark gray frieze coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. He will endeavour to emigrate to America, and it is believed he may have already done so. Warrant ordered for Ills HirGst Roundstone, March 19,1886. ( 72603 c.— 26584,> The watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd February last, have not been recovered ; Hue and- Cry, 26th February, 1886. John Wood ( robbery), not arrested ; Hue- and- Ory, 5th January, 1886. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of John Morrissey ( mother's surname Daly), native of Brosna, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 4th instant, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Brosna, fired two shots into the dwelling- house of Hanoria Casey, with intent to kill or maim the inmates thereof:— Probably has fresh cuts or bruises on head or face, dark eyes, long sharp pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face medium make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, black hair, heavy ey ebrows, small black moustache, a returned American, speaks through his nose with a Yankee twang, may have a revolver in pocket over seat of trowsers ; wore a black sealskin cap, gray tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a cooper. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Connor, native of Curra- vaha, Glencar, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of March, 1886, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Kenmare, pointed a gun at one Denis Sullivan, gamekeeper:— Gray or bluo eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full clean face, stout active make, 5 feet inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair ; wore a brown plaid tweed trowsers ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of John Allman, native of Keeloclo- hane, who stands charged with having, on the 6th March, 1886, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Kilcoleman, fired a shot at the dwelling- house of one Darby Clifford, to the terror of the inmates thereof:— Down- looking appearance, round shoulders, holds his head down when walking, generally keeps his hands in his pockets when walking, blue or gray eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair, wore a soft dark hat, reddish- ^ gray sack coat, tweed trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare. Tho man, came and native place unknown, described in tho Hue- and- Cry of 9th February, 1886 ( charged with having set lire to a rick of hay), has not been arrested. Kilkenny. Dark complexion, dirty looking lace, medium make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age; wore an old soft black hat, old and worn gray coat, dark trousers and vest; supposed tramp. 2. Red complexion, thin red face, medium make, about 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age ; supposed fair hair, foxy moustache; wore an old worn black jerry hat, old dark coat, dark trousers and vest, old worn boots; is a tramp. I 8. Dark complexion, medium make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 26 years of age; wore an old dark jerry hat, old dark coat, gray trousers, dark vest, bad old boots ; is a tramp. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, but who gave the name of Andrew Cotter, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of April, 1886, in the borough of Limerick, parish of Saint John's, by fraud and false pretences, obtained from one John Crowe, one sack of flour, one sack of Indian meal, and one cwt. of bran, the property of Thomas Gaffney, Esquire, J. P. ; supposed to reside in tfce neighbourhood of Killkishen, district of Tulla, and county Clare :— Round stooped shoulders, short cocked nose, fair reddish complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, between 40 and 50 years of age, sandy hair and whiskers all round face ; wore a gray frieze coat; appeared to be a countryman.
