All announcements for insertion in the POLICB GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. B. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension « « sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICB GAZBTTB, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all eases where a reward tj offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, ani the exact conditions be clearly stated. ' 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension » J sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. < 5. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must he guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant ij in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may t;. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons t* be apprehended or of stolon property bear a number, and an alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents, or stolen property to be inserted im the POLICE GAZETTB, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In ail cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, mill be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Ore'J. Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond $ Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order. <* r in Stamps. 13. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTB beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on appli- cation in the form set forth in my circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any complaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once noti- fied to the Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. It will greatly facilitate the transaction of business, if in all telegrams to Great Scotland Yard regarding - criminal matters, the name and official designation of the • sender are telegraphed. FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Sditor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Polio ® . The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch • of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded • by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests, that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is un- willing to incur any expense, with a view to obtain Ms surrender, a notification be made in the communi- cation sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is • circulated in the Colonies. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— Central Office.— Woodcut portrait and de- scription of GEORGE BERNARD HARVEY DREW, a solicitor, whose apprehension is sought for embezzle- ment, age 40, height 5 ft. 11 in., stout, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, generally clean shaved, but may be growing beard or moustache ; has a nervous twitching of the head when talking, arising from drinking habits ; of gentlemanly appearance. Has in his possession 32 £ 100 Bank of England notes, No. 57767 to 780, dated 13th April, 1885, and 58751 to 68, dated 13th April, 1885. May be found at seaside or other fashionable resorts, and will probably assume the name of Arthur Adair. 2.— D Division.— For obtaining, 3rd inst., 182 diamonds by means of a worthless cheque on the Bank of England— CAPTAIN WALLACE ANDREWS, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair and mous- tache dark brown, of military appearance ; dress, dark blue overcoat ( tight- fitting), black silk hat, carried an umbrella. Warrant issued. 3.— D Division— For embezzlement— BROCK DANIELS, alias " TOMMY DANIELS," age 45, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair ( turning grey) and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, bow- legged, hook nose, is fond of drink and gay company ; dress, black overcoat with velvet collar, blue morning suit, brown felt hat. Supposed native of London. Warrant issued. 4.— M Division.— For stealing £ 204— WALTER DUNN, age 19, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion swarthy, hair and eyes ( full) black, speaks with a loud gruff voice ; dress, brown tourist suit, brown felt hat. A native of Bloomsbury, London. 5.— M Division.— Woodcut portrait and descrip- tion of HENRY PICKFORD, whose apprehension is sought for being concerned with Walter Dunn in stealing £ 204, age 17, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, bow- legged ; dress, brown tourist suit, black hard felt hat. A native of Bloomsbury, London. 6.— N Division.— For embezzlement— THOMAS PITT, age 33, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion, hair, and moustache dark ; dress, grey tweed suit, hard felt hat. A ship's steward ; may be found at docks, or seek em- ployment at bakers as driver. Warrant issued. 7.— N Division.— For embezzlement— JOSEPH YELL, a'traveller, age 50, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers, and moustache ( turning grey) very dark ; dress, black cloth Chesterfield overcoat, dark suit, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. 8.— R Division.— For obtaining money by false pretences— THOMAS MITCHELL, age 58, height 6 ft., complexion florid, hair and side whiskers light sandy, of gentlemanly appearance; dress, brown check suit, deer- stalker hat, carries a large malacca cane with ivory top. Late a major in the Commissariat and Transport Corps. May endeavour to leave the country for Australia. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, Great Scotland Yard, London, S. W. BEDFORDSHIRE. 9.— Luton ( Borough).— For stealing a quantity of straw plait, 9th inst.— FREDERICK LAWRENCE, age 35, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, complexion fair, little or no whiskers, moustache ( slight) sandy; dress, usually grey clothes. A straw hat blocker. May en- deavour to leave the country for America or Australia. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Jaquest, Luton. BERKSHIRE. 10.— Maidenhead ( County).— For embezzlement — JAMES BUTLER, age 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fair, hair, moustache ( slight), and eyes dark ; dress, long dark overcoat, butcher's blue suit, leather leggngs, black hard felt hat. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 11.— Brill ( County).— For failing to report — License Holder NORMAN GUBBINS, Office No. 29756, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair sandy, eyes grey, scars left side and top of head, left eyebrow, top lip, forehead, and left thumb and finger. Sentenced at Aylesbury, 2nd January, 1882, to 5 years' penal servitude for attempted arson. I 1. Information to Inspector Ray, Brill. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 12.— Isle of Ely ( County).— For larceny— WIL- LIAM HOWE, age 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, moustache dark brown, eyes grey, large black mole below navel, scar supposed left shin ; has been in the Army; dress, dark cloth coat, light trousers ( worn at knees), soft felt hat. A farm labourer; native of Fenton, Hants ; went in the direc- tion of Lincolnshire, Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Dockerill, Chatteris, Isle of Ely. height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, no whiskers or moustache, dress dark brown suit, who stated they were going towards Leek, Staffordshire. It is requested that enquiry be made at livery stablse, ifcc. Information to Lieut.- Colonel Staples, Chief Con- stable, Stockport. CHESHIRE. 13.— Chester ( City).— For larceny and embezzle- ment- BORIK MIL1NICK, alias BERNARD MIL- LER, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in., complexion very fair and freckled, hair ( short, parted in centre and curly in front) very light, moustache ( slight) light, eyes light blue; dress, light brown covert coat, dark brown check tweed suit ( second suit of light tweed), dark brown mackintosh, grey union shirt, brown cot- ton singlet and drawers, new boots, dark brown felt hat. Had in his possession a yellow tin trunk, and booked at Chester for Paddington at 12.15 p. m. 5th inst., supposed en route for Russia, via Paris and Berlin. A corn miller, native of Neustadt, Sugint, Russia, but has been engaged soliciting orders for drapery goods. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester. 14.— Macclesfield ( Borough).— For failing to re- port— License Holder SAMUEL TURNER, Office No. 28152, age 67, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair grey^ eyes brown, scars on right thigh, knee, and shin, above left elbow and shoulder blade. A notorious character. Has been sentenced to over 30 years' im- prisonment. Last sentenced at Derby Assizes March 28, 1876, to 12 years' penal servitude for larceny. C 362. Information to Chief Constable, Macclesfield. 15.— Stockport ( Borough). — For stealing a quantity of men's clothing, 3rd inst. ( see Case No. 13, 9th inst.)— THOMAS McMOYLER, alias BURNS, age 34, height 5 ft. 6j in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes blue, several scars on forehead and left cheek ; dress, check tweed coat dark brown vest, tweed trousers ( patched at right knee), or a pair of corduroy trousers ( partly worn), coloured silk neckerchief, black soft felt hat May have a number of pawntickets in his possession in name of " William Clayton." Stated he was a native of Chorley, Lancashire, and formerly resided at Cheapside, Chorley, but left there about 12 months ago. May be found at common lodging- houses in Preston, Blackburn, or neighbourhood. 16.— Stockport ( Borough).— For burglary, 15th inst., and stealing a gentleman's silver Geneva watch, No. 19582, ST/ c scratched inside outer case ; a gentle- man's silver Geneva, No. 98440 ( pledged at Oldham); 1 silver pen and pencil case, milk colour stone in top ; 1 pair strong lace watertight boots, size 8 ( nearly new), toecaps, machine stitched; and 1 pair men's lace boots, size 7, loose tabs, machine stitched ( nearly new), pointed toes, straight toecaps— ROBERT BOSTOCK, 55, Abbey Hills- road, Oldham ( false), age about 30, medium height, complexion fresh, hair and slight beard on chin dark ; dress, dark coat, black hard felt hat; appearance of a factory operative. Left behind a pair of men's lace boots ( much worn), patch on left a little below toe joint, right broken at joint; a low black hard felt hat, size about 65, lining and band deficient, white leather inside ; and a pair of gentle- men's brown kid gloves, with three broad rows of black stitching up backs. 17.— Stockport ( Borough).— For stealing, 20th inst., a dark brown mare, 14 hands 2 in., aged, white mark down face, 2 white hind legs, has been fired on near hind hock, which is a little longer than the other, in good condition ; answers to the name of " Polly "; a newly- painted dog- cart, olive colour, straw- colour stripe, high wheels, blue cushions, cocoa- nut foot mat; a set of brass- mounted harness ( nearly new), with initials on brasses.— A MAN, who represented he was a cloth traveller, age 20 to 22, height 5 ft 4 to 6 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache ( slight) light, jf gentlemanly appearance and good address ; dress, short round jacket, brown cloth vest, small pliid trousers, lace boots, with plaid cloth tops, brown lat. Was traced to Macclesfield, and left there aliout 5.30 p. m., 20th, accompanied by a man aged about 20. | DORSETSHIRE. 18.— Shaftesbury ( County)— For stealing a mack- intosh ( recovered. See Case No. 71, 2nd inst.)— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, whiskers rusty brown, moustache ( short and turning grey) sandy ; dress, dark blue reefer coat, brown cord trousers ( worn at bottoms), old boots ( broken at toes), soft black hat. Warrant issued Information to Supt. Hains, Dorset. 19.— Wi m bo rne ( County).— Woodcut portrait and HEREFORDSHIRE. 23.— Ledbury ( County).— For burglary at Wool- hope, 14th inst., and stealing a frail, mended at bottom in two places with coarse string ; a man's un- bleached calico shirt, worn at wristbands; a small pair of scissors, and the leg of a grey woollen stocking — A TRAMPING LABOURER, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair and whiskers sandy ; dress, white slop, dark cord trousers, black hat. Information to Supt. Smith, Ledbury. HERTFORDSHIRE. 24.— Watford ( County).— Woodcut portrait and description of Supervisee WILLIAM THOMPSON, description of GEORGE WHITE, whose apprehension is sought for embezzling £ 15 4s.— age 56 to 58, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair, beard and whiskers iron grey, eyes dark, false teeth in front, which move a little, has a habit of placing his third finger to the corner of his mouth, which he draws down when talk- ing ; back of hands and fingers very hairy ; dress, light tweed suit, hard felt hat. A clerk ; native of Christ- church, Hants. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Batty, Wimborne. DURHAM. £ 20 REWARD. 20.— Whereas about 10.45 p. m. on Wednesday, 24th ult, a quantity of blasting gelatine was placed by some evil- disposed person or persons with evident in- tention to destroy life and property, causing an explosion near the house of Mr. Wilfred Tyzack, at South Medomsley Colliery. The above reward will be paid by the owners of South Medomsley Colliery to any person ( not being a member of a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who committed this offence. Information to Lieut.- Col. White, Chief Constable, County Constabulary, Durham, or to Supt. Oliver, Consett. alias THOMAS BROWN, Office No. 29879, whose apprehension is sought for burglary— age 34, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes hazel, slight build, right hand mutilated, scars on right knee, back, left of forehead, neck, and left knee ; dressed, when last seen, in dark tweed suit, black hard felt hat, side- spring boots, and silk neckerchief. Sentenced at Central Criminal Court, 8th January, 1877, to 10 years' penal servitude and 5 years' police supervision for burglary. Licensed 5th February, 1886. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Herts, Hemel Hempstead, or to Supt. Hummerstone, Watford. LANARKSHIRE. 25.— Glasgow ( City).— For stealing £ 109 5s., 1st inst.— CHARLES MoNAB, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark, thin face, slight squint left eye, scar right side of neck ; dress, black cord jacket, dark tweed trousers with blue stripe, lace boots, black felt hat. A clerk ; native of Glasgow. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow. ESSEX. 21.— O n ga r ( County).— For stealing between 22nd and 31st ult. at Abbott's Wick House, Navestock, a lady's gold English lever watch, No. 33873, maker " G. Shipperley, Nottingham," open face, black steel hands, chased back ; a lady's long gold chain, cable pattern, broken in several places, and tied with silk and cotton, and a George III. guinea with hole pierced through at the figure III., which he sold 24th ult.— Rev. ROBERT R. BOYLE, age 28 to 30, height 6ft., complexion swarthy, hair ( cut short) black, side whiskers slight, very near- sighted, and wears glasses; dress, long black frock coat, black trousers and vest, stand- up collar, side- spring boots ( new), black soft felt hat. An Irishman; resided at 17, Arundel- street, Landport, Portsmouth, 18th October, 1885. Is sup- posed to have left the country 1st inst., by Cook's Excursion from Southampton tb Antwerp or New York. Warrant issued. Information to Major Poyntz, Chief Constable, Chelmsford, or to Inspector Robinson, Ongar. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22.— Fishponds ( County).— For larceny ( dwelling) — ELIZA SHILL, age 27, height 5 ft. 5£ in., very slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes grey, long features ; dress, black jacket and dress ( old), side- spring boots, white straw hat, trimmed black velvet and black lace. A common prostitute ; native of Car- diff. May be found at common lodging- houses and low beer- houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Fishponds. LANCASHIRE. 26.— Burnley ( County).— For stealing a pair of trousers and a pair of scissors ( recovered)— JAMES LEMON, alias " THE WANDERING BOY," a tramp- ing tailor, age about 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., com- plexion fair, hair light sandy, moustache ( turned up at ends) slight, eyes blue; dress, black worsted suit, diamond pattern. 27.— Burnley ( County).— For stealing, between5th and 6th inst., at Nelson - in- Marsden, a silver Boston lever watch, plain cases, white dial, gold hands, small piece broken out of face ; 1 9- carat gold albert, curb pattern, and 1 gold- plated albert, curb pattern, with oval shaped gold locket, containing the photo of a gentleman, attached— A MAN, who gave the name of WILLIAM WILSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache dark, nose crooked and inclined to right side ; dress, dark cloth coat, moleskin vest, striped trousers, leather collar, yellow and black striped tie, plaid cloth billy- cock hat. Stated he was a stonemason, and came from Bradford. Information to Supt. Wright, Burnley. 28.— Bury ( County).— For failing to report — Supervisee GEORGE YICKERS, Office No. 29281, age 32, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, deep scar left jaw, anchor inside each arm. Sentenced at Salford Sessions February 23, 1885, to 9 calendar months' imprisonment and 2 years' police supervision for larceny. 6865. Information to Supt. Henderson, Bury. 29.— Old Trafford ( County).— For stealing at Moss Side, 15th inst., a silver keyless Geneva lever watch, No. 256624, smooth back ; gold albert chain, round link pattern, with small gold locket attached ; a lady's bronze green silk dress skirt, piece of green silk velvet down each side, and 2 or 3 small kilts round bottom; green silk velvet bodice to match— A WOMAN, age 40, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown : dress, black jacket, dress and bonnet trimmed crape ; respectable appearance. 30.— Old Trafford ( County).— For stealing two watches at Stretford, 17th inst. ( See Case No. 85)— A FRIDAY, APRIL 16, 1886. THE POLICE GAZETTE. 23 MAN, age about 25, height 6 ft. 4 qr 5, w., complexion dark, small side whiskers and moustache,, dark brown, of Jewish appearance , dress, - short dark' coat and trousers, dark felt hat; shabby appearance. 31.— Old T rafford( County).— Forstealingbetween 12th and 16th inst., at Openshaw, 1 pair men's lace boots ( recovered), 1 pair men's white moleskin trousers, fly fronts, repaired at knees ( recently washed), and 2 blue- and- white striped cotton shirts ( much worn)— License Holder MARY BESWKjlK, alias MARY WEST, MARY JONES, and BRADLEY, age 49, height 4 ft. 7| in., complexion fair, hair grey/ eyes blue, scar on cheek, nose, upper tip, fcliili, ' right'; arm, and right shin, 3 small blue marks on b& ttoni lip'; dress, light cotton dress, black anti white plaid shawl, and clogs. Convicted at Manchester Sessions 26th April, 1880, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude. Licensed 8th January last. A- G. 18. Information to Supt. Bent, Old Trafford. 1 32.— Rochdale ( County).— For stealing at Roys- ton, 17th inst., 17s. silver and bronze, 1 pair hair- cut- ting scissors, and 2 razors, black scales, hollow ground, stamped " Worth "— HENRY WADE, alias " SNUFFY HARRY," age about 38, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top), moustache, and sinall side- whiskers sandy ; dress, light check coat, dark worsted vest, light cloth trousers, lace boots, black billycock hat. A tramping barber ; native of Blackburn. Has been employed in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, and other large towns. Information to Supt. Tindall, Rochdale. 33.— Liverpool { City).—- For failing to report- Supervisee JAMES HAYNES, Office No; 29890, age 53, height 6 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair turning grey, eyes hazel, scars right groin, thigh, elbow, lotp. neck, and scalp, left groin, eyebrow, upper lip, and thumb, several front upper teeth deficient. Sentenced at Middlesex Sessions January 13,1879, to 7 years' penal servitude and 7 years' police supervision for larcenj* and receiving. Y F 809. Information to Chief Superintendent,' Detective Department, Liverpool. 34.— Accrington ( Borough).— For stealing, 14$ h inst., a large black leather purse, brass frame, contain- ing 10 sovereigns; I black leather purse, steel frame, patent American fastener, containing 6 half- sovereigns; 1 aluminium gold watch, coloured dial, with ship in centre, faded left side, outer case loose ; 1 long brass chain, snake pattern ; 2 small keys on split ring, and 1 white metal ring, " Forget- me- not" thereon— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair dark, long face, clean shaved, hangs his head, and walks with a slovenly gait; dress, old shabby suit and cap. Information to Chief Constable Beattie, Accrington. 35.— Oldham ( Borough). — ROBERT HENRY SELBY, Case No. 28, 8th January, not to be appre- hended. Warrant withdrawn. * LEICESTERSHIRE. 36.— Leicester ( Borough).— For larceny ( bailee)— ALFRED THOMAS BONE, a watch repairer, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight built, hair ( bald on front), full beard and moustache dark, walks quickly ; dress, short black coat, dark trousers < red speckled), black hard billycock hat; carries his tools in a black bag.
