ALSO SUITABLE FOR THE ARMY AND RAILWAY SERVICES. hath to us."— 1 John iv. 16. " What can I remember? A man ( Whitfield) striving with his whole heart and soul to win lost souls out of a perishing world and a sorrowful world to Christ and holiness and joy— where the preacher \ » eeps and entreats, the Saviour died and saved. Yes, it is done. The work of salvation is done. ' It is finished.' I never understood that in the same way before. It is not only that our Lord Jesus loves us, yearns our us, entreats u3 not to perish. He has saved us. He has actually taken over sins and blotted them out, washed them white, whiter than snow, in His own blood. It is not only that He pities. He saves. He has died. He has redeemed. The hands stretched out to save are those that have paid the terrible ransom. He did not begin to pity us when we began to turn to Him. ' When we were without strength He died for us ungodly.' ' For He hath made Him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.' I never understood this in this way before ; and yet there it is, and always has been, as clear as daylight, in page after page of the Bible. ... A new meaning dawns on old words for me. There is nothing new in what He says; but it seems new to me, as if God had - po'cen it first to- day ; and all things seem mad# new in its light. He let down a lignt into my heait, which, amidst all its wander- ings and mistakes, will, I believe, never go out. He made me feel that God would understand me better than any one, because love alwavs understands, and the greatest love understands best. God is love. I never felt a love that so fills, over- whelms. and satisfies as this love of God ; and when first it is ' thou and I' between God and the soul, for a time at least, the heart has little room for other fellow- ships." x'he above Watch is an excellent Timekeeper, made expressly for the service, with horizontal escapement, enamel dial, extra jewelled, highly finished strong works, thick crystal glass, massive silver cases, & c., at £ 2 15s.
