BbSHMM DUBLIN, FRIDAY, MARCH 19, 1886. ENGLISH POLICE. CUMBERLAND. COMMITTED for trial at the noxt Quarter Sessions at Carlisle, for larceny from the person:— 1. Gave the name George Wilson; 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 s inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair ( bald on top), hazel " eyes, slightly pock- pittod, dimpled chin, front tooth'right side of upper jaw deficient, marks on left side of neck; butcher; stated he is a native of Carlisle. ^ 2. Gave tho name Frederick Stevenson; 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, swarthy com- plexion, dark brown hair, dark blue eyes, pock- pitted, throws his feet out when walking; horse dealer; stated he is a native of Birmingham. Found in the possession of Stevenson :—— A £ 10 Bank of England note, No. 77,216 ; a £ 5 Bank of England note, No. 99,629; a £ 5 note of Yorkshire Banking Company, No. 207,649 ; a £ 5 - note Clydesdale . Banking 0ompany, No. £ 0,000,235 ;• an ancient gold coin, size of a florin ; a silver patent chronograph stop watch, centre seconds, No. 38,863, Albert ( chain pattern) attached. Information to Superintendent TAYLOR, Cocker- mouth. Cockermouth, County Cumberland. ( 32179 m 60048.) STOI KV at Hove, Brighton, since the 10th of December, last;— A square black marble clock, about 18 inches high, with a bust of Madame du Barry in green bronze on the top; a pair of candelabras, rather higher than the clock, with a base of black marble, lions' heads at the corners with a ring in each mouth, and made to hold five candles; four American clocks, square shape, 6£ inches x 5 inches, makers name—" Ansonia Clock Co.," white metal, visible escapements at the sides; several pairs of blankets, marked H B ; several pairs of linen and cotton sheets, marked B or D; twelve white damask table cloths, with a large B woven in the centre; a quantity of lady's night dresses, chemises, drawers, petticoats, & c., all marked D ; a porcelain image of a Chinaman in sitting posture, half nude, very large stomach and navel, dirty olive green colour, about 10 inches high ; an oil painting taken from the frame, about 30 inches x 18 inches, subject, " A Game of Whist," three men dressed in wigs and knee breeches, with long pipes in their hands. ( 32001 M— 59741.) The gentleman's silver or silver plated round hunting flask, in leather case, described in last Hue- and- Cry, has been found. Chief Constable's Office, Kendal, 16th March, 1886. With reference to sundry notices which have ap- peared in the " Hue- and- Cry" up to the 9th March, giving particulars of the finding of the dead body of a man ( then unknown), in Chaddesden, near Derby, on the 3rd of January, last. The body has recently been identified, and it has been established that the deceased was not in Derby on tho 1st January, neither did ho sleep there on that date. • I It is believed that the Derby witnesses who saw the body incorrectly identified it, and the case has been ono of suicide. " Henry Mullin," alias " Johnston," or " Mullin- gar " < chai with horse stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 29th January, 1886. SCOTCH POLICE. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. EMBEZZLEMENT OF £ 140. Wanted here, on a Sheriffs warrant, for embezzle- ment of £ 140, being the proceeds of a Bankrupt's Estate, on which accused acted as Trustee :— Angus M. Campbell, an accountant, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout make, dark com- plexion, dark hair, slight dark side whiskers, no moustache, shaved on chin, brown eyes; dressed ( supposed) in a light checked tweed suit, green or slate coloured overcoat, and square- crowned black felt hat. Is . a native of Lochfyneside, Argyleshire, and speaks with a Highland accent. Accused, who absconded on the 11th instant, had an office at 17fi£, Hope- street, here, and resided at 173, West Graham- street. Police officers are requested to have particular search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, ship- ping offices, and all other likely places, and should he be found, arrest, and communicate with A. PARTICULARS relative to English Police Supervisee Patrick O'Donald, alias Hugh Lapping, convicted ai Salford, county Lancaster, at Sessions, on 7 July, 1884, for stealing a coat after a prior conviction, and sentenced to 15 calendar months and 5 years police supervision ; 24 years of age on conviction, single, is a plasterer, born in Glasgow, resided before con- viction at 27, Gun- street, Manchester :— Brown hair, gray eyes, pale complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 6 feet 3 inches high ; burn marks on left fore- arm. This supervisee was discharged from Knutsford Prison on 6th October, 1885, and went to reside at 5, Millfield- place, Belfast, which place ho left on or about the 1st instant, and is supposed to have gone to Liverpool. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 64, convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer Assizes, on the 3rd July, 1879, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 32 years of age, single, is a labourer, born at Monkstown, county Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, sandy complexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high; dot between forefinger and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, 2nd January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He reported himself to the Police on same date, and said he had no settled place of residence, but when he had procured one he would inform them. He has not done so up to the present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 & 35 Vic., section 5, cap. 112. January 18, 1886. DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 11a. LORF. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict, James Schriber, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict, Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict William M'Manus ( failing to report him- self), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th December, 1885. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. Convict James Slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 6th March, 1886, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— Wm. Joseph Carlisle, 17 years of age, light brown hair, blue eyes, sharp nose, prominent mouth, fresh complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high; born at Belfast; formerly belonged to Belfast; parents reside at 15, Barrow- street, Belfast; sister also residing in Leper- street, Belfast; scar on THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR EUE- AUD- CRY, MARCH 19, 1886. left side of neck, blue dot between thumb and fore- finger of right hand. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded-— Moleskin jacket, moleskin trowsers and blue dongares Oversuit, moleskin vest, cloth Glengarry cap, blue striped shirt, red and black tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. Tho Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of John Christy, native of Cartall, who stands charged with having, on the 5th ol February, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Ballylinny, threatened to shoot John Chisolm, of same place:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair curly hair; wore a hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a licensed publican. DESCRIPTION of John Devlin, native of Chapel- hill, who stands charged with having, on the 30th December, 1880 and 3rd January, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, attempted to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart:— Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved; wore a soft black hat, black coat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. Richard Mayes, native of Lisburn ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1886, committed a rape), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 15th September, 1885. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of James Monaghan, alias Delaney, who stands charged with having, in February, 1886, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, embezzled about £ 76, the property of his employers, the Belfast and Northern Counties Railway Com- pany, in whose service he was as clerk:— Sad and depressed looking, walks awkwardly with long strides, and swings his arms ; gray eyes, regular nose, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 2ft years of age, black hair, fringe of hair round neck, has a tendency to curl; wore a dark cloth coat, dark trowsers, and vest; his proper name is Jamos Monaghan, but he always goes by name of Delaney; wife lives at Bootle, near Liverpool. Belfast, North, Feb. 19, 1886. ( 73093 c.— 25808.) Tho woman, name unknown, supposed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, ID tho barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th November, 1885. Licensed convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- aud- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of three ro^ n, names and native places unknown, wiio stand charged with having, on the 29th . Tanuiry, 1886, in the barony of Tully- hunco, parish of Kildallen, being found unlawfully in the pursuit of game, and that No. 1 presented a gun at gamekeeper's son ( John Jos. Huggins), and threatened to shoot him:— 1. Shaven face, active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 30 years of age; wore a light gray suit of tweed ; carried a single- barrelled gun. 2. Medium make, middle sized ; wore a two- peaked cap, and a dark tweed suit; carried a single- barrelled gun. 3. Middle size, side whiskers, dark colour; wore a short hard hat, flat on crown, and a long brown coloured overcoat; carried a double- barrelled gun. No. 4 cannot be described. Killeshandra, Jan. 31, 1886. ( 72809 c.— 25314. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hu'e- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Clare. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 3rd day of January, 1886, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10s., and who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown :— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair ; wore a two- peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze coat, brown trowsers ; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair ; wore a blue cloth cap with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent Ennis, January 4, 1886. DESCRIPTION of Timothy Buckley, native of Caher- barule, who stands charged with having, on the 1st February, 1886, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Aghabollogue, committed a rape:— Bow- legged, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, brown hair; wore a two- peaked cap, gray coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant boy. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of articles, the property of William George Edmonds, which were stolen from his dwell- ing- house, 2, Charlemont- terrace, Marino, in the parish of Clontarf, barony of Coolock, on the night of 8th or morning of 9th March, 1886, by sOme persons unknown:— A marble clock, non- striking, from which a brass presentation plate, three inches by three- fourths of an inch, has been wrenched ; a brass card- tray, figured with two cards; two small pictures of water scenery, in frames ; a prayer- book, with brown cover, and two brass clasps, and inscrip- tion on inner cover, " B. M'Kittrick "; a black cloth topcoat, braided, and velvet collar; a pair of dog- skin gloves, with brass buttons, and red stitching inside, a small brass magnifying- glass with three legs and screw top; a small Chinese bowl; a green table- cloth, with black flowering; a photographic album, with puce cover, containing several photo- graphs ; several books not describable. DESCRIPTION of James Smith, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the 11th February, 1886, in the barony of Uppercross, parish ofTallaght, robbed Edward Rafter, of Castlekelly, farmer, of a purse containing one five pound note, two pounds in gold, and about seventeen shillings and sixpence in silver:— Very large eyes, foolish looking, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight or medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, growing very thin on face; wore an old soft hat, three small buttons on side, old black cloth coat, moleskin trowsers patched on knees with corduroy, and tweed vest; is a labourer, and sup- posed deserter from Army. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd instant:— Four silver Geneva watches, lady's size, numbered 24,513, 24,514, 245,400, 245,586, value £ 2 each ; a gentle- man's silver lever watch, centre second, No. 47,076, value about £ 8 ; a silver gilt bracelet, value £ 1 17s.; a silver and pebble bracelet, value £ 2; a silver and inlaid Connamara marble bracelet, value £ 1 12s. ~ r four silver bracelets, value 9s. 6d. each; five pocket penkives, James Barber, maker, value Is. 6d. each. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding :— Smooth face, medium make, 6. feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of age ; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. DESCRIPTION of John Allman, native of Keeloclo- hane, who stands charged with having, on the 6th March, 1886, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Kilcoleman, fired a shot at the dwelling- house of one Darby Clifford, to the terror of the inmates thereof:— Down- looking appearance, round shoulders, holds his head down when walking, generally keeps his hands in his pockets when walking, blue or gray eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, long thin face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair, wore a soft dark hat, reddish- gray sack coat, tweed trousers, and vest; is a labourer. Killorglin, March 15, 1886. ( 73327 c.— 26262.) DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Healy, native of Fehanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 14th February, 1886, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Tuosist, struck one Jeremiah Shea, with a stone on the head, thereby placing his life in danger :— Awkward gait, gray or blue eyes, thick nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 year3 of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft wide awake hat, brown tweed coat, gray flannel trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Kenmare, Feb. 18, 1886. ( 73078 c.— 25790.) Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th February, 1886, in the barony of North Salt, parish of Taghadoe, set fire to a rick of hay the property of Miss Rickards, of Corbally:— Dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair, chin shaved, wore side whiskers; wore a soft jerry hat, dark worn coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a tramp. Naas, February 6, 1886. ( 72887 c.— 25451.) On the 22nd of January inst., James Slattery, a convict on ticket- of- licence, who had failed to report himself, was returned for trial at Monasterevan Petty Sessions, for a robbery of plate from the R. C. Chapel there. In a bundle which he had there was some Altar linen, partly cut up, and a piece of embroidery on white satin, 3 j yards long, 8- J- inches deep, with a yellow fringe on one side 2 inches deep. The embroidery consisted of flowers and leaves in green and red, two rings at each end, and a large one in the centre containing the letters " I. H. S., " inter- laced in green, yellow, white and crimson. Theee do not belong to Monasterevan Chapel, and it ns believed that Slattery committed a similar robbery elsewhere. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 10th July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the guardians of said union), has not been arrested; Huo- and- Cry, 15th May, 1885. Patrick Canty ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th November, 1884. Leitrim. DESCRIPTION of Peter Joseph Rooney, native of Glenade, who stands chargod with having, on the 12th December, 1885, and on subsequent dates, in the barony of Dromahaire, parish of Cloonclare, obtained several sums of money from one Thomas Loughlin, and others, by means of false pretences :— Large dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark curly hair; wore a two- peaked cap, and dark clothes; drives a post car through the country, and represents himself as a tea traveller, offers tea and sugar at very low prices, and obtains some money, promising to send the goods. STOLEN on 1st March, 1886, from Edmond Fitz- gibbon, farmer, of Newtown, barony of Small county, parish of Hospital, three cows of the follow- ing description :— 1.
