Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royax Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, ifcc,, and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hqe- and- Cry " no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, MARCH 16, 1886. — T- ENGLISH POLICE. CUMBERLAND. COMMITTED for trial at the next Quarter Sessions at Carlisle, for larceny from the person :— 1. Gave the name George Wilson; 28 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair ( bald on top), hazel eyes, slightly pock- pitted, dimpled chin, front tooth right side of upper jaw deficient, marks on left side of neck; butcher; stated ho is a native of Carlisle. 2. Gave the name Frederick Stevenson; 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inchos high, swarthy com- plexion, dark brown hair, dark blue eyes, pock- pitted, throws his feet' out when walking; horse dealer; stated he i& a native of Birmingham. Found in the possession of Stevenson :— A £ 10 Bank of England note, No. 77,216 ; a £ 5 Bank of England note, No. 99,529; a £ 5 note of Yorkshire Banking Company, No. 207,649 ; a £ 5 note clydesdale Banking Company, No. £ 0,000,236-; an ancient gold coitf, si2e of a florin ; a silver patent chronograph stop watch, centre seconds, No. 38,863, Albert ( chain pattern) attached. STOLEN from a dwelling- house in Kendal, within the last fourteen months, between December, 1884, and February, 1886 ;— A gentleman's silver or silver plated round hunting flask, in leather case, inscribed on tho metal J. or John Yates Grant, had a small chain attached to screw stopper, two straps attached to leather case to fasten to saddle ; value £ 3 to £ 4. STOLEN at Hove, Brighton, since the 10th of December, last:— A square black marble clock, about 18 inches high, with a bust of Madame du Barry in green bronze on the top; a pair of candelabras, rather higher than the clock, with a base of black marble, lions' heads at the corners with a ring in each mouth, and made to hold five candles ;• four American clocks, square shape, inches x 5 inches, makers name—'' Ansonia Clock Co.," white metal, visible escapements at the sides; several paiis of blankets, marked H B ; several pairs of linen and cotlon shoets, marked B or D; twelve white damask table cloths, with a large B woven in the centre; a quantity of lady's night dresses, chemises, drawers,' petticoats, & c., all marked D ; a porcelain image of a Chinaman in sitting posture, half nude, very, large stomach and navel, dirty olive green colour, about 10 inches high ; an oil painting taken from the frame, about 30 inches x 18 inches, subject, " A Game of Whist," three men dressed in wigs .- tnd knee breeches, with long pipes in their hands. . ( 32001 M.~ 5 > 741.) 4 4 With reference to sundry notices which have ap- peared in the " Hue- and- Cry" up to th<: 9: h March, giving particulars of the finding of the dead body of a man ( then unknown), in chaddesden, near Derby, on the 3rd of January, last. The body has recently been identified, and it has been established that the deceased was not in Derby on the 1st January, neither did he sleep there on that date. It is believed that the Derby witnesses who saw the body incorrectly identified it, and the case has been one of suicide. Deputy Chief- Constable's Office, St. Mary's- gate, Derby, March 12, 1886. ( 31876 M.— 60103.) " Henry Mullin," alias " Johnston," or " Mullin- gar" ( charged with horse stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 29th January, 188 § . DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE - G Division. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 64, convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer Assizes, on the 3rd July, 1879, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 132 years of age, single, is a labourer, born at Monkstown, county Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, sandy complexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high; dot between forefinger and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, 2nd January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He reported himself to the Police on same date, and said he had no settled place of residence, but when he bad procured one'he would inform them. He has not done so up to the present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Ati*. 34 & 35 Vic., section 5, cap. 112. January 18, 1886. DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis. lOd. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank — 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G Division, September 3," 18881 DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeat- ed from his residence about mid- day, on the 2* th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth', average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest.' In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict, James Schriber,' described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict, Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict William M'Manus ( failing to report him- self), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th December, 1885. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- aud- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. Convict James Slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. rOYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the tith March, 1886, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— Wm. Joseph Carlisle, 17 years of age, light brown hair, blue eyes, sharp nose, prominent mouth, fresh complexion, long visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high ; born at Belfast; formerly belonged to Belfast; parents reside at 15, Barrow- street, Belfast; sister also residing in Leper- street, Belfast; scar on left side of neck, blue dot between thumb and fore- finger of right hand. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded— Moleskin jacket, moleskin trowsers and blue dongares overstjit, moleskin vest, cloth Glengarry cap, blue striped shirt, red and black tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of John Christy, native of Cartall, who stands charged with having, on the 5th oi February, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Ballylinny, threatened to shoot John Chisolm, of same place:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair curly hair ; wore a hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a licensed publican. carrickfergus, Feb. 7, 1886. DESCRIPTION of John Devlin, native of Chapel- hill, who stands charged with having, on the 80th Decomber, 1885 and 3rd January, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, attemptod to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart:— Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round faco, stout make, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved; wore a soft black hat, black coat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. Richard Mayes, native of Lisburn ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1886, committed a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th September, 1885. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of James Monaghan, alias Delaney, who stands charged with having, in February, 1886, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, embezzled about £ 76, tho property of his employers, the Belfast and Northern Counties Railway Com- pany, in whoso service he was as clerk:— Sad and depressed looking, walks awkwardly with long strides, and swings his arms ; gray eyes, regular noso, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair, fringe of hair round neck, has a tendency to curl; wore a dark cloth coat, dark trowsers, and vest; his proper name is James Monaghan, but he always goes by name of Delaney ; wifo lives at Bootle, near Liverpool. Belfast, North, Feb. 19, 1886. ( 73093 c.— 25808.) peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze coat, brown trowser3 ; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair ; wore a blue cloth cap with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent. DESCRIPTION of Timothy Buckley, native of Caher- barule, who stands charged with having, on the 1st February, 1886, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Aghabollogue, committed a rape:— Bow- legged, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, brown hair; wore a two- peaked cap, gray coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant boy. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of articles, the property of William George Edmonds, which were stolen from his dwell- ing- house, 2, Charlemont- terrace, Marino, in the parish of Clontarf, barony of Coolock, on ihe night of 8th or morning of 9th March, 1886, by some persons unknown :— A marble clock, non- striking, from which a brass presentation plate, three inches by three- fourths of an inch, has been wrenched; a brass card- tray, figured with two cards; two small pictures of water scenery, in frames ; a prayer- book, with brown cover, and two brass clasps, and inscrip- tion on inner cover, " B. M'Kittrick"; a black cloth topcoat, braided, and velvet collar; a pair of dog- skin gloves, with brass buttons, and red stitching inside, a small brass magnifying- glass with three legs and screw top; a small Chinese bowl; a green table- cloth, with black flowering; a photographic album, with puce cover, containing several photo- graphs ; several books not describable. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Healy, native of Fehanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 14th February, 1886, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Tuosist, struck one Jeremiah Shea, with a stone on the head, thereby placing his life in danger :— Awkwaid gait, gray or blue eyes, thick nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 year3 of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft wide awake hat, brown tweed coat, gray flannel trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare > DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th February, 1886, in the barony of North Salt, parish of Taghadoe, set fire to a rick of hay the property of Miss Richards, of Corbally:— Dark complexion, thin lace, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair, chin shaved, wore side whiskers ; wore a soft jerry hat, dark worn coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a tramp. Naas, February 6, 1886. ( 72887 c.— 25451.) Kilkenny. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 10th July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the Guardians of said union), has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th May, 1885. Patrick Canty ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th November, 1884. . Leitrim. DESCRIPTION of Peter Joseph Rooney, native of Glenade, who stands chargcd with having, on the 12th December, 1885, and on subsequent dates, in the barony of Dromahaire, parish of Cloonclare, obtained several sums of money from one Thomas Loughlin, and others, by means of false pretences :— Large dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark curly hair ; wore a two- peaked cap, and dark clothes; drives a post car through the country, and represents himself as a tea traveller, offers tea and sugar at very low prices, and obtains some money, promising to send the goods. STOLEN on 1st March, 1886, from Edmond Fitz- gibbon, farmer, of Newtown, barony of Small County, parish of Hospital, three cows of the follow- ing description :— 1. Red stripper, tops of horns sawn off, 8 years old, value £ 15 10s. 2. Pale red stripper, 8 years old, value £ 15. 3. Bluish- gray colour, 5 years old, value £ 15. ( 73236 c.— 26110.) 1 The woman, name unknown, supposed native of • bout Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October1, 1885, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th November, 1885. Licensed convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hiie- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cavan. • DESCRIPTION of three men, names and native places unknown, who stand chargcd with having, on the 29th January, 1886, in the barony of Tully- hunco, parish of Kildallen, being found unlawfully in the pursuit of game, and that No. 1 presented a gun at gamekeeper's son ( John Jos. Huggins), and threatened to shoot him:— 1. Shaven faco, active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 30 years of age; wore a light gray suit of tweed J carried a single- barrelled gun. 2. Medium make, middle sized ; wore a two- peaked cap, and a dark tweed suit; carried a single- barrelled gun. 3. Middle size, side whiskers, dark colour; wore a short hard hat, flat on crown, and a long brown colopred overcoat; carried a double- barrelled gun. No. 4 cannot be described. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 3rd day of January, 1886, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10s., and who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles, an< f a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown :— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- DESCRIPTION of James Smith, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the 11th February, 1886, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, robbed Edward Rafter, of Castlekelly, farmer, of a purse containing one five pound note, two pounds in gold, and about seventeen shillings and sixpence in silver:— Very large e\ es, foolish looking, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight or medium make, 5 feet 4 o; 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, growing very thin on face ; wore an old soft hat, three small buttons on side, old black cloth coat, moleskin trowsers patched on knees with corduroy, and tweed vest; is a labourer, and sup- posed deserter from Army. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd instant:— Four silver Geneva watches, lady's ; size, numbered 24,513, 24,514, 245,400, 245,586, value £ 2 each ; a gentle- man's silver lever watch, centre second, No. 47,076, value about £ 8 : a silver gilt bracelet, value £ 1 17s.; a silver and pebble bracelet, value £ 2; a silver and inlaid Connamara marble bracelet, value £ 1 12s.; four silver bracelets, value 9s. 6d. each; five pocket penkives, James Barber, maker, value Is. 6d. each. Galway, Feb. 23, 1886. ( 73165 c.— 25937.) DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding:— Smooth face, medium make, 6 feet 2 inches high, On the 22nd of January inst., James Slattery, a convict oil ticket- of- licence, who had failed to report himself, was returned for trial at Monasterevan Petty Sessions, for a robbery of plate from the R. C. Chapel there. In a bundle which he had there was some Altar linen, partly cut up, and a piece of embroidery on white satin, 3|- yards long, 8^ inches deep, with a yellow fringe on one side inches deep. . The embroidery consisted of flowers and leaves in green and red, two rings at each end, and a large one in the centre containing the letters " I. H. S., " inter- laced in green, yellow, white and crimson. These do not belong to Monasterevan Chapel, and it is believed that Slattery committed a similar robbery elsewhere. DJPUIPTION of Michael Power, and John Power, natifTs of Kilmecdy, and William Kiely ( mother's surname Irwin), native of Dromminacreena, who stand charged with having, on the 8th January, 1880, in the barony of Upper Connello, parish of Ballingarry, seriously assaulted Catherine Fitzgibbon, and thereby placed her life in danger: 1. Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, gray tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a cooper. 2. Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, dark tweecl coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a cooper. 8. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low soft hat, dark tweed coat, cord trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a farmer's son Adare, January 16,1880. ( 72560 c.— 24897.) Mary FitzGibbon, ( name supposed fictitious) ( robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd December, 1885. Londonderry. Margaret Sweeney, ( child desertion), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 17th November, 1885. Longford. DESCRIPTION of John Kenny, native of Aughna- sillagh, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd of January, 1886, in the barony ot Moydow, parish of Kilglass, dangerously assaulted Michael Carrigy :— Good- looking, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stoutv make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 25 or 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a low hard hat, black cloth coat, tweed trowsors, and vest, and is supposed to wear a black or brown top coat; is a farmer and labourer. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Brown, native of Kilcurry, w stands charged with having, on the night of 25th December, 1885, in the barony of Shrule, parish of Taghshinny, seriouslv assaulted Mathew Ryan, of Kilcurry, in conjunction with James Dougherty, who has surrendered:— Good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inchcs high, about 21 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Costelloe, native of Cortoon, Kirwin, near Kilmaine, who stands charged with having, on the 15th July, 1886, in the barony of Kilmaine, parish of Ballinrobe, stolen a pig, the property of Michael Reilly, of Ballinrobe; tho pig has been recovored :— Slight cast in left eye, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 years of age, fair hair; wore a fair moustache and small side whiskers, soft black hat, gray tweed suit, black leather leggings, may have gone to England to rejoin the army; army reserve man from cavalry; he trains horses. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Healy, native of Carnaclory, county Sligo, who stands charged with having, on the 21st day of January, 1886, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Killedan, assaulted Edward Hussey, assistant messenger of the Court of Bankruptcy, Ireland, after being arrested on a Warrant issued by said Court, thereby effecting his escape from legal custody :— Holds down his head, and appears shy when spoken to, high cheek bones, strong features, small fair moustache, no beard or whiskers, full gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low black hat, wide leaf, dark tweed or serge coat, gray tweed trowsers, dark vest, may be wearing a dark tweed ulster coat; is a shopkeeper. DESCRIPTION of Robert Peyton ( mother's surname Boughton), native of Westlands, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1884, in the barony of Carra, parish of Ballyhean, committed rape :— Gentlemanly appearance, sometimes wears glasses; blue eyes, aquiline nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, dark gray overcoat; is a gentleman. DESCRIPTION of John Carlton, native of Navan, who stands charged With having, on the 5th Febru- ary, 1886, in the barony of Upper Moyfenratb, parish cf Clonard, embezzled the sum of £ 2 lis. 9d. the property of his master, James Cushion, of Anneville, in this district:— Round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair, shaves all his face; wore a round hard hat, a white scarf, and a dark brown tweed coat; is a labourer. Two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having on the night of the 11th December, 1885, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Kilmore, been two Moonlighters, armed with revolvers, who entered the house of Denis Manning, of Ballincur, and forcibly took therefrom a double- barrelled gun, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 15th December 1885.
