All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn ; but it is not necessary + iO forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. * 0* Should irregularities arise in tho delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give tne number it bears, as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to lie good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition ot' Gaols, ( Station*, ifcc., end of any circunistances rendering the supply of the " Ilue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 1886. ENGLISH POLICE. STOLEN from a dwelling- bouse in Kendal, within the last fourteen months, botween December, 1884, and February, 1& 86 :— A gentleman's silver or silver plated round hunting flask, in leather case, inscribed on the metal J or John Yates Grant, had a small chain attached to screw stopper, two straps attached to leather case to faston to saddle ; value £ 3 to £ 4. Information to be givm to THOMAS COTTON, Chief Cor stable, Kendal, Westmorland. Chief Constable's Office, Kondal, 28rd February, 1886. ( 32115 M.- 59936.) STOLEN at Hove. Brighton, since the 10th of December, last:— A square black marble clock, about 18 inches high, with a bust of Madame du Barry in green bronze on the top; a pair of candelabras, rather higher than the clock, with a base of black marble, lions' heads at the corners with a ring in each mouth, and made to hold five candles ; four American clocks, square shape, inches x 5 inches, makers name—" Ansonia Clock Co.," white metal, visible escapements at the sides ; several pairs of blankets, marked H B ; several pairs of linen and cotton sheets, marked B or D; twelve white damask table cloths, with a large B woven in the centre; a quantity of lady's night dresses, chemises, drawers, petticoats, < fcc., all marked D; a porcelain image of a Chinaman in sitting posture, half nude, very large stomach and navel, dirty olive green colour, about 10 inches high ; an oil painting taken from the frame, about 30 inches x 18 inches, subject, " A Game of Whist," three men dressed in wigs and knee breeches, with long pipes in their hands. Police Officers are earnestly requested to make every inquiry in their districts for the above property. Information to Major TEEVAN, Chief Constable. Police Station, Town Hall, Hove, Feb. 1, 1886. ( 32001 H.— 59741.) # IMMEDIATE AND IMPORTANT. ON tho 3rd instant, about 7 A. M., the body of a man ( unknown), described below, was found lying dead on the Nottingham- road, near Chaddesden ( a few yards outside Derby borough boundary), with a bullet wound in his forehead, a small five- chambered pinfire 7 m. revolver, electro- plated, was found at his feet. Is 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair complexion, grayish blue eyes, brown hair, cut close, body strong and muscular, about 11 stone, large pockmark on tip of nose, another close to end of left nostril, close shaven, short scanty reddish moustache, had a red vulcanite false pallet in mouth ( owing to detect in natural pallet), has small soft hands, and does not appear to have been used to manual work, small feet ( a ring with three patent keys found on person), has the appearance of an Irishman, 3rd arid 4th fingers, on left hand, old injury. Dressed in reddish seed Scotch mixture overcoat, round short fancy cloth tattersall ( black ground with white and brown lines) bound with black braid, brown aud green Scotch cheviot mixture vest and trowsers, latter with fly front, black and gray wool socks, inside vest and drawers of gray Scotch wool, latter with scarlet band, stand- up linen collar, patent neck- scarf, blue silk with yellow spots, brown hard round- topped felt hat, light lace- up boots, repaired at each toe. The above deceased was in company wit'i a man inknown ( described bjlow), in Derby, on Friday, the 1st instant; slept together on that night, at a public- house ; w re tojofler following day ( Saturday); both called at a gunsmith's about 7 P. M. ; and de- ceased purchased a box of 50 cartridges to fit a revolver ( since) identified as the one found beside deceased. 21 of the above cartridges were found in his pocket, 4 in revolver, and 1 discharged, leaving 24 unaccounted for. A small soft parcel, about 9 inches square, rolled in newspaper, and tied with string, was in deceased's hand when he left the public- house after breakfast, on Saturday, which is unaccounted for. ) >' - >"' J •.' About 5 feet 4 inches high, 26 years of age, light complexion, very slight whiskers, slight figure, dressed in dark blue cut- off jacket, check trowsers, hard black round- topped felt hat, with flat wide brim. Has the appearance of a groom. An inquest has been held, and an open verdict returned. The circumstances of this case are so extremely suspicious that Police Officers are requested to cause immediate inquiry to be made, with the object of identifying the dead man, and tracing the man in whose company he was last seen, and communicate all information as early as possible. " Henry Mullin," alias " Johnston," or " Mullin- gar " ( charged with horse stealing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 29th January, 1886. SCOTCH POLICE. WANTED here, under Sheriff's Warrant, on a charge of embezzlement or theft of £ 180, the property of the Perth Parochial Board, committed between the 1st January, 1884, and 23rd February, 1886, Robert Macdonald :— Inspector of Poor for Perth, native of Greenock, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches in height, round face, fresh complexion, ordinary make, brown hair, reddish full beard ( may be shaved off), a little knock- kneed when walking. Dress— Dark heather, mixture tweed suit, dark gray Ulster coat with band at back, round hard felt hat, and elastic sided boots. Previous to entering the service of the Parochial Board he was in the Police service. Is acquainted in Dublin and Belfast. Has been much addicted to drink of late. Police Officers are requested to make special search and inquiry for this person; if found, to apprehend him, and communicate with the subscriber, J. MACPHERSON, Chief Constable for Perthshire. County Police Office Perth, 1st March, 1886. ( 32161 m.— 60018.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE Division, PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 61, convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer A- sizes, on the 3rd July, 1879, for larceny and previous conviction, an sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 32 years of age, single, is a labourer, b> rn at Monkstown, coumy Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, sandy complexi n, broid vi- age, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high; dot b tween forefinger and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence from Moun joy Prison, 2nd Januiry, 1886, aud went to resile in Dublin. He reported himself to tie Police on sane date, and said he had no settled place of residence, but when he had procured one he would inform them. He has not done so up to the present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should bs dealt with under the Act 34 & 35 Vic., section 5, cap. 112. January 18, 1886. DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis. Kid. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Qifice, G Division, September 3, 1885, DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, J oint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict, James Schriber, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th January last, has not been arrested. English convict. Margaret Ryan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 1st of January last, has not been arrested. Convict William M'Manus ( failing to report him- self), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th December, 1885. ? Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. Convict James Slatterv ( failing to report himself), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim- DESCRIPTION of John Christy, native of Cartall, who stands charged with having, on the 5th of February, 1883, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Ballylinny, threatened to shoot John Chisoim, of same place:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about ' 25 years of age, fair corlv hair; wore a hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a license 1 publican. DESCRIPTION of John Devlin, native of Chapel- hill, who stands charged with having, on the 80th December, 1885 and 3rd January, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, attempted to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart:— Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet I or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved; wore a soft black hat, black coat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. Hamilton Black ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th October, 1885. richard Mayes, native of Lisburn ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1886, committed a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th September, 1885. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of James Monaghan, alias Delaney, who stands charged with having, in February, 1886, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, embezzled about £ 76, the property of his employers, the Belfast and Northern Counties Railway Com- pany, in whose service he was as clerk:— Sad and depressed looking, walks awkwardly with long strides, and swings his arms; gray eyes, regular nose, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair, fringe of hair round neck, has a tendency to curl; wore a dark cloth coat, dark trowsers, and vest; his proper name is James Monaghan, but he always goes by name of Delaney ; wife lives at Bootle, near Liverpool. The woman, name unknown, supposed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, In the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide, has not been arrested; Hue- and Cry, 6th November, 1885. Licensed convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of three men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 29th January, 1886, in the barony of Tully- hunco, parish of Kildallen, being found unlawfully in the pursuit of game, and that No. 1 presented a gun at gamekeeper's son ( John Jos. Huggins), and threatened to shoot him:— 1. Shaven face, active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 80 years of age; wore a light gray suit of tweed ; carried a single- barrelled gun. 2. Medium make, middle sized ; wore a two- peaked eap, and a dark tweed suit; carried a single- barrelled gun. 3. Middle size, side whiskers, dark colour; wore a shott hard hat, flat on crown, and a long brown coloured overcoat; carried a double- barrelled gun. No. 4 cannot be described. Killeshandra, Jan. 31, 1886. ( 72809 a— 25314.) Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested'; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Clare. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 8rd day of January, 1886, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffo, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10j , and who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two len pound notes, two fivo pound notes, five singles, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown :— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair j wore a two- peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze coat, brown trowseri; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 3 ) jeari of age, dark hair ; wore a blue cloth c* p with peak, ear flaps tied ou top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers; spoke with an English accent. DESCRIPTION of Timothy Buckley, native of Caher- barule, who stands charged with having, on the 1st February, 1886, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Aghabollogue, committed a rape:— Bo^ v- legged, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, brown hair; wore a two- peaked cap, gray coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant boy. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of James Smith, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the 11th February, 1886, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, robbed Edward Rafter, of Castlekelly, farmer, of a purse containing one five pound note, two pounds in gold, and about seventeen shillings and sixpence in silver:— Very large eyes, foolish looking, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight or medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, growing very thin on face ; wore an old soft hat, three small buttons on side, old black cloth coat, moleskin trowsers patched on knees with corduroy, and tweed vest; is a labourer, and sup- posed deserter from Army. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 8rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd instant:— Four silver Geneva watches, lady's size, numbered 24,513, 24,514, 245, i00, 245,586, value £ 2 each ; a gentle- man's silver lever watch, centre second, No. 47,076, value about £ 8 ; a silver gilt bracelet, value £ 1 17s.; a silver and pebble bracelet, value £ 2; a silver and inlaid connamara marble bracelet, value £ 1 12s.; four silver bracelets,, value r » s. 6d. each ; five pocket penkives, James Barber, maker, value Is. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding :— Smooth face, medium make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of age ; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Healy, native of Fehanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 14th February, 1886, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Tuosist, struck one Jeremiah Shea, with a stone on the head, thereby placing his life in danger :— A. wkwatd gait, gray or blue eyes, thick nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 year3 of age, dark brown ha'r; wore a soft wide awake hat, brown tweed coat, gray flannel trousers, and vest; is a labourer. Kenmare, Ftb. 18, 1S86. ( 73078c.— 25790.) Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the niglit of the 13th November, 1885, in tho barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin). not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with havin^^ a the 4th February, 1886, in the barony of Ni^^ Salt, parish of Taghadoe, set fire to a rick of^ ty the property of Miss Rickards, of Corbally:— Dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair, chin shaved, wore side whiskers ; wore a soft jerry hat, dark worn coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a tramp. Naas, February 6, 1886. ( 72887 c.— 25451.) On the 22nd of January inst., James Slattery, a convict on ticketof- licence, who had failed to report himself, was returned for trial at Monasterevan Petty Sessions, for a robbery of plate from the R. C. Chapel there. In a bundle which he had there was some Altar linen, partly cut up, and a piece of embroidery on white satin, 3J yards long, 8^ inches deep, with a yellow fringe on one side 2 inches deep. The embroidery consisted of flowers and leaves in green and red, two rings at each end, and a large one in the centre containing the letters " I. H. S., " inter- laced in green, yellow, white and crimson. These do not belong to Monasterevan Chapel, and it is believed that Slattery committed a similar robbery elsewhere. Information to be given to District Inspector, Kildare. Kildare, January 26. 1886. ( 72636 c.— 25041.) Kilkenny. The horse belonging to John Kirwan, described in the Hue- and- Ciy of 16th February, has been recovered in possession of a man, named John Bryan, who purchased him from John Morrissy, who stole him. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the Guardians of said union), has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th May, 1885. Patrick Canty ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th November, 1884. Leitrim. DESCRIPTION of Peter Joseph Rooney, native of Glenade, who stands chargod with having, on the 12th December, 1885, and on subsequent dates, in the barony of Dromahaire, parish of Cloonclare, obtained several sums of money from one Thomas Loughlin, and others, by means of false pretences :— Large dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark curly hair; wore a two- peaked cap, and dark clothes; drives a post car through the country, and represents himself as a tea traveller, offers tea and sugar at very low prices, and obtains some money, promising to send the goods. Manorhamilton, Feb. 15, 1886. ( 73005 c— 25664.) Limerick. STOLEN on 1st March, 1886, from Edmond Fitz- gibbon, farmer, of Newtown, barony of Small County, parish of Hospital, three cows of the follow- ing description :— 1. Red stripper, tops of horns sawn off, 8 years old, value £ 15 10s. 2. Pale red stripper, 8 years old, value £ 15. 3. Bluish- gray colour, 5 years old, value £ 15. All in good condition. Bruff, March 3, 1886. ( 73236 c.— 26110.) DESCRIPTION of Michael Power, and John Power, natives of Kilmeedy, and William Kiely ( mother's surname Irwin), native of Dromminacreena, who stand charged with having, on the 8th January, 1886, in the barony of Upper Connello, parish of Ballingarry, seriously assaulted Catherine Fitzgibbon, and thereby placed her life in danger: 1. Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, gray tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a cooper. 2. Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a cooper. 8. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low sofU bat, dark tweed coat, cord trowsers, and dark twe « vest; is a farmer's son Adare, January 16,1886. Londonderry. Margaret Sweeney, ( child desertion), not arrested ; Hue- aud- Cry, 17tli November, 1885. Longford. DESCRIPTION of an ass, the property of Michael Kenny, of Moatfarrell, which was stolen out of his stable at Moatfarrell, in the parish of Clonbroney, and barony of Granard, on the night of 23rd or morning of 24th February, 1880 :— A large whitish mare ass, very heavy ears, long hair, string- halted of both hind legs, about 9 years old, in good condition, recently shod, and value for £ 3. Ballymahon, Feb. 27, 1880. ( 73218 c.— 26053.) DESCRIPTION of John Kenny, native of Aughna- sillagh, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd of January, 1886, in the barony Qt Moydow, parish of Kilglass, dangerously assaulted Michael Carrigy :— Good- looking, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 5 or G inches high, about 25Jor 26 years of age, fair hair ; wore a low hard hat, black cloth coat, tweed trowsors, and vest, and is supposed to wear a black or brown top coat ; is a farmei\ and labourer. Ballymahon, Jan. 35, 1886. ( 72721 c.— 25173.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Brown, native of Kilcurry, who stands charged with having, on the night of 25th December, 1885, in the barony of Shrule, parish of Taghshinny, seriously assaulted Mathew Ryan, of Kilcurry, in conjunction with James Dougherty, who has surrendered:— Good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Healy, Dative of Carnaclory, county Sligo, who stands charged with having, on the 21st day of January, 1886, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Killedan, assaulted Edward Hussey, assistant messenger of the Court of Bankruptcy, Ireland, after being arrested on a Warrant issued by said Court, thereby effecting his escape from legal custody :— Holds down his head, and appears shy when spoken to, high cheek bones, strong features, small fair moustache, no beard or whiskers, full gray eyes, regular nose, foir complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low black hat, wide leaf, dark tweed or serge coat, gray tweed trowsers, dark vest, may be wearing a dark tweed ulster coat; is a shopkeeper.
