STOLEN from a dwelling- house in Kendal, within the last fourteen months, between December, 1884, and February, 1886 gentleman's silver or silver plated round hunting flask, in leather case, inscribed on the metal J. or John Yates Grant, had a small chain attached to screw stopper, two straps attached to leather case to fasten to saddle ; value £ 3 to £ 4. STOLEN at Hove, Brighton, since the 10th of December, last:— A square black marble clock, about 18 inches high, with a bust of Madame du Barry in green bronze on the top; a pair of candelabras, rather higher than the clock, with a base of black marble, lions' heads at the corners with a ring in each mouth, and made to hold five candles; four t American clocks, square shape, inches x 5 inches, makers name—" Ansonia Clock Co.," white metal, visible escapements at the sides; several pairs of blankets, marked H B; several pairs of Jinen and cotton shoets, marked B or D; twelve wftite damask table cloths, with a large B woven in the centre; a quantity of lady's night dresses, chemises, drawers, petticoats, < fco., all marked D; a porcelain image of a Chinaman in sitting posture, half nude, very large stomach and navel, dirty olive green colour, about 10 inchcs high ; an oil painting taken from the frame, about 30 inches x 18 inches, subject, " A Game of Whist," three men dressed in wigs and knee breeches, with long pipes in their hands. ABSCONDED on the 18th instant, and now charged by Warrant with stealing a mare, since recovered, " Henry Mullin," alias " Johnston," or " Mullin- gar":— About 26 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, stout build, full red face, black hair and moustache ; has prominent teeth, and the two front teeth appear to have been filed ; dressed in a brownish- gray tweed suit of horsey cut, white neckerchief, black billycock hat, and heavy laced boots ; was accompanied by his wife, who is the daughter of a car proprietor named Loughlin, of Carlisle. He has been employed as groom, attending fairs in England and Ireland for John Lowther, Mr. Brandt, and a man known as " Baildon Charley," all horsedealers of Carlisle. Please cause every possible inquiry to be made at livery stables, horse repositories, and all likely places. If found, arrest and telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, • Chief Superintendent. Detective Department, Liverpool, January 26, 1886. ( 31977 M.— 59702.) IMMEDIATE AND IMPORTANT. ON the 3rd instant, about 7 A. M , the body of a man ( uuknown), described below, was found lying dead on the Nottingham- road, near Chaddesden ( a few yards outsile Derby bjrough boundary), with a bullet wound in his forehead, a small five- chambered pinfire 7 in. revolver, electro- plated, was found at his feet. • Is 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair complexi in, grayish blue eyes, brown hair, cut close, body °^ lng and muscular, about 11 stone, large pockmWk on tip of nose, another close to end of left nostril, close shaven, short scanty reddish moustache, had a red vulcanite false pallet in mouth owing to defect in natural pallet), has small soft hands, and does not appear to have been used to manual work, small feet ( a ring with three patent keys found on person), has the appearance of an Irishman, 3rd and 4th fingers on left hand, old injury. Dressed in reddish seed Scotch mixture overcoat, round short fancy cloth tattersall ( black ground with white and brown lines) bound with black braid, brown and green Scotch cheviot mixture vest and trowsers, latter with fly front, black and gray wool socks, inside vest and drawers of gray Scotch wool, latter with scarlet band, stand- up linen collar, patent neck- scarf, blue silk with yellow spots, brown hard round- topped felt hat, light lace- up boots, repaired at each toe. The above deceased was in company with a man unknown ( described below), in Derby, on Friday, the lst instant 5 slept together on that night, at a public- house ; were together following day ( Saturday); both called at a gunsmith's about 7 P. M. ; and de- ceased purchSsea a box of 50 cartridges to fit a revolver ( since) identified as the one found beside deceased. 21 of the above cartridges were found in his pocket, 4 in revolver, and 1 discharged, leaving 24 unaccounted for. A small soft parcel, about 9 inches square, rolled in newspaper, and tied with string, was in deceased's hand when he left the public- house after breakfast, on Saturday, which is unaccounted for. About 5 feet 4 inches high, 26 years of age, light complexion, very slight whiskers, slight figure, dressed in dark blue cut- off jacket, check trowsers, hard black round- topped felt hat, with flat wide brim. Has the appearance of a groom. An inquest has been held, and an open verdict returned. The circumstances of this case are so extremely suspicious that Police Officers are requested to cause immediate inquiry to be made, with the object of identifying the dead man, and tracing the man in whose company he was last seen, and communicate all information as early as possible. SCOTCH POLICE. WANTED here, under Sheriff's Warrant, on a charge of embezzlement or theft of £ 180, the property of the Perth Parochial Board, committed between the lst January, 1884, and 23rd February, 1886, Robert Macdonald :— Inspector of Poor for Perth, native of Greenock, about 40. yf ars of age, 5 feet 10 inches in height, round face, fresh complexion, ordinary make, brown hair, reddish full beard ( may be shaved off), a little knock- kneed when walking. Dress— Dark heather, mixture tweed suit, dark gray Ulster coat with band at back, round hard felt hat, and elastic sided boots. Previous to entering the service of the Parochial Board he was in the Police service. Is acquainted in Dublin and Belfast. Has been much addicted to drink of late. Police Officers are requested to make special search and inquiry for this person; if found, to apprehend him, and communicate with the subscriber, J. MACPHERSON, Chief Constable tor Perthshire. County Police Office Perth, lst March, 1886. ( 3215! 6 018) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE G Division. PARTICULARS relative to convict James Schriber, A 362, convicted at Dublin City Commission, on the 2nd December, 1881, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude:— 22 years of age on con- viction ; single, is a watchmaker, born in Dublin, where he resided before conviction, his friends reside in France ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, round visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high, is pockpitted This man was released on Licence from Mountjoy Prison, 23rd November, 1885, and went to reside at 3, Denzille- street, Dublin, which place he left without reporting same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 and 35 Vic., Sec. 5, cap. 112. General Prisons Board, January 18, 1886. ( 31913 M.— 59598.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 64", convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer Assizes, on the 3rd July, 1879, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 32 years of age, single, is a labourer, born at Monkstown, county Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, sandy complexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high; dot between forefinger and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, 2nd January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He reported himself to the Police on same date, and said he had no settled place of residence, but when he had procured one he would inform them. He has not done so up to the present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Ac*. 34 & 35 Vic., section 5, cap. 112. January 18, 1886. PARTICULARS relative to English convict Margaret Ryan, convicted at Bristol, 6th January, 1882, for felony, after previous conviction of felony, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 years' police supervision ; 45 years of age on conviction, married, a charwoman, prison trade— tailoress, born in Ireland, resided before conviction at Bristol:— Gray hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, propor- tionate make, 5 feet high ; scar left side of neck, mole upper part of left arm This woman reported to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary at Waterford, the 16th November, 1885, her intention of going to Carrick- on- Suir, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 31 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 28, 1885. ( 31390 M — 59422. DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on tho 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis l'V. sterling, the money and property of the said Btn't:—'^ 8 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight lui'd, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( suppose'') yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. DESCRIPTION of robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict William M'Manus ( failing to report him- self), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th December, 1885. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. DESCRIPTION of John Christy, native of Cartall, who stands charged with having, on the 5th of February, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Ballylinny, threatened to shoot John Chisolm, of same place:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stoi\ t make, 5 feet 10 ^ rr 11 inches high, about 25 years of age, fair curly hair; wore a hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a licensed publican. Carrickfergus, Feb. 7, 1886. ( 72886 c.— 25450.) DESCRIPTION of John Devlin, native of Chapel- bill, who stands charged with having, on the 80th December, 1885 and 3rd January, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, attempted to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart:— Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet I or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved; wore a soft black hat, black coat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of James Graham, native of Temple- patrick, who stands charged with having, on the 17th December, 1885, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Racavan, embezzled the sum of £ 36 8s. the property of his employers, Messrs. Loster, Brothers:— Bare spot on crown of head, walks stiffly, one shoulder higher than the other, coarse voice, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, v+ out make, 5 feet 6 or 7 ir. ches high, about 36 years of age, dark hair, no whiskers, dark moustache ; wore a dark cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; was formerly at sea, and served in a dragoon rogiment; is a carter. Constabulary at Ballymena hold warrant for his arrest. Ballymena, Dec. 18, 1885. ( 72068 c.— 24165.) The woman, name unknown, supposed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, iD the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th November, 1885. Licensed convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cuilen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of three men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 29th January, 1886, in the barony of Tully- hunco, parish of Kildallen, being found unlawfully in the pursuit of game, and that No. 1 presented a gun at gamekeeper's son ( John Jos. Huggins), and threatened to shoot him:— 1. Shaven face, active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 80 years of age; wore a light gray suit of tweed; carried a single- barrelled gun. 2. Medium make, middle sized ; wore a two- peaked cap, and a dark tweed suit; carried a single- barrelled gun. 3. Middle size, side whiskers, dark colour; wore a short hard hat, flat on crown, and a long brown coloured overcoat; carried a double- barrelled gun. No. 4 cannot be described. Hamilton Black ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th October, 1885. Richard Mayes, native of Lisburn ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1888, committed a rape), not arrested; Hue- aud- Cry, 15th September, 1885. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of James Monaghan, alias Delaney, who stands charged with having, in February, 1886, in the barony of Upper Belfaht, parish of Shankhill, embezzled about £ 76, the property of his employers, the Bilfast and Northern Counties Railway Com- pany. in whose service he was as clerk:— Sad and depressed looking, wa'k3 awkwardly with long studes, and swings his arms; gray eyes, regular nose, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 joars of age, black hair, fringe of h » ir round neck, has a tendency to curl ; wore a dark cloth coat, dark trowsers, and veit; his proper name is James Monaghan, but he alwiys goes by name of Delaney ; wife lives at Bootle, near Liverpool. Belfast, North, Feb. 19, 1881 ( 73U93 c.— 25808.) Clare. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on tlje 3rd day of January, 1886, in the barony of islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10s., and who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown:— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze coat, brown trowser3; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair ; wore a blue cloth cap with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent. DESCRIPTION of Timothy Buckley, native of Caher- barule, who stands charged with having, on the 1st February, 1886, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Aghabollogue, committed a rape:— Bow- legged, gray eyes, regular pose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, brown hair; wore a two- peaked cap, gray coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant boy. Macroom, Feb. 7, 1886. ( 72858 c.— 25403.) Ellen Sheridan has been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 8th December, 1885. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of James Smith, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the 11th February, 1886, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, robbed Edward Rafter, of Castlekelly, farmer, of a purse containing one five pound note, two pounds in gold, and about seventeen shillings and sixpence in silver:— Very large eyes, foolish looking, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight or medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 30 years fif age, fair hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, growing very thin on face ; wore an old soft hat, three small buttons on side, old black cloth coat, moleskin trowsers patched on knee3 with corduroy, and tweed vest; is a labourer, and sup- posed deserter from Army. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of watches and other property, stolen from John P. Fogarty's shop, situate in Shop- street, Galway, which was forcibly entered on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd instant:— Four silver Geneva watches, lady's ( size, numbered 24,513, 24,514, 245,400, 245,586, value £ 2 each ; a gentle- man's silver lever watch, centre second, No. 47,076, value about £ 8 ; a silver gilt bracelet, value £ 1 17s. ; a silver and pebble bracelet, value £ 2; a silver and inlaid Connamara marble bracelet, value £ 1 12s.; four silver bracelets, value 9s. 6d. each; five pocket penkives, James Barber, maker, value Is. 6d. each. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Dramackin, if he did not give up his herding :— Smooth face, medium make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of age ; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Healy, native of Fehanagh who stands charged with having, on the 14th February, 1886, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Tuosist, struck one Jeremiah Shea, with a stone on the head, thereby placing his life in danger :— Awkward gait, gray or blue eyes, thick nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 year3 of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft., wide awake hat, brown tweed coat, gray flannel trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Kenmare, Feb. 18, 1886. ( 73078 c.— 25790.) Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th February, 1886, in the barony of North Salt, parish of Taghadoe, set fire to a rick of hay the property of Miss Rickards, of Corbally:— Dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair, chin shaved, wore side whiskers ; wore a soft jerry hat, dark worn coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a tramp. Naas, February 6, 1886. ( 72887 c.— 25451.) On the 22nd of January inst., James Slattery, a convict on ticket- of- licence, who had failed to report himself, was returned for trial at Monasterevan Petty Sessions, for a robbery of plate from the R. C. Chapel there. In a bundle which he had there was some Altar linen, partly cut up, and a piece of embroidery on white satin, 3£ yards long, 8i inches deep, with a yellow fringe on one side 2 inches deep. The embroidery consisted of flowers and leaves in green and red, two rings at each end, and a large one in the centre containing the letters " I. H. S., " inter- laced in green, yellow, white and crimson. These do not belong to Monasterevan Chapel, and it is believed that Slattery committed a similar robbery elsewhere. Information to be given to District Inspector, Kildare. Kildare, January 26. 1886. ( 72636 c.— 25041.) Kilkenny. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, ' lOth July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the Guardians of said union), has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th May, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Peter Joseph Rooney, native ot Glenade, who stands chargod with having, on the 12th December, 1885, and on subsequent dates, in the barony of Dromahaire, parish of Cloonclare, obtained several sums of money from one Thomas Loughlin, and others, by means of false pretences :— Large dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark curly hair; wore a two- peaked cap, and dark clothes; drives a post car through the country, and represents himself as a tea traveller, offers tea and sugar at very low prices, and obtains some money, promising to send the goods. Manorhamilton, Feb. 15, 1886. ( 73005 c— 25664.) Limerick. STOLEN on 1st March, 1886, from Edmond Fitz- gibbon, farmer, of Newtown, barony of Small County, parish of Hospital, three cows of the follow- ing description :— 1. Red stripper, tops of horns sawn off, 8 years old, value £ 15 10s. 2. Pale red stripper, 8 years old, value £ 15. 3. Bluish- gray colour, 6 years old, value £ 15. All in good condition.
