DUBLIN, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 18B6. ENGLISH POLICE. STOLEN at Hove, Brighton, since the 10th of December, last;— A square black marble clock, about 18 inches high, with a bust of Madame du Barry in green bronze on the top; a pair of candelabras, rather higher than the clock, with a base of black marble, lions' heads at the corners with a ring in each mouth, and made to hold five candles ; four American clocks, square shape, inches x 5 inches, makers name—" Ansonia Clock Co.," white metal, visible escapements at the sides; several pairs of blankets, marked H B; several pairs of linen and cotton sheets, marked B or D; twelve white damask table cloths, with a large B woven in the centre; a quantity of lady's night dresses, chemises, drawers, petticoats, < fcc., all marked D; a porcelain image of a Chinaman in sitting posture, half nude, very large stomach and navel, dirty olive green colour, about 10 inches high; an oil painting taken from the frame, about 30 inches x 18 inches, subject, " A Game of Whist," three men dressed in wigs and knee breeches, with long pipes in their hands. ABSCONDED on the 18th instant, and now charged by Warrant with stealing a mare, since recovered, •' Henry Mullin.," alias " Johnston," or " Mullin- gar":— About 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, full red face, black hair and moustache ; has prominent teeth, and the two front teeth appear to have been filed; dressed in a brownish- gray tweed suit of horsey cut, white neckerchief, black billycock hat, and heavy laced boots ; was accompanied by his • wife, who is the daughter of a car proprietor named Loughlin, of Carlisle. He has been employed as groom, attending fairs in England and Ireland for John Lowther, Mr. Brandt, and a man known as " Baildon Charley," all horsedealers of Carlisle. M , the body of a • man ( unknown), described below, was found lying dead on the Nottingham- road, near Chaddesden ( a few yards outside Derby borough boundary), with a bullet wound in his forehead, a small five- chambered pinfire 7 m. revolver, electro- plated, was found at his feet Is 5 feet 5 inches higb, about 40 years of age, fair complexion, grayish blue eyes, brown hair, cut close, body strong and muscular, about 11 stone, large pockmark on tip of nose, another close to end of left nostril, close shaven, short scanty reddish moustache, had a red vulcanite false pallet in mouth ( owing to detect in natiral pallet), has smill soft hands, and does not appear to have been used to manual work, small feet ( a ring with three patent keys found on person), has the a^ pearanca of an Irishman, 3rd and 4ttt fingers on left hand, oli injuty., -. •' Dressed in reddish send Scotch mixture overcoat, round short, fancy cloth tattersall ( black ground with white and brown lines) bound wiih Lla^ k braid, brown and green Scotch cheviot mixture vest and trowsers, latter with fly front, black and gray wool socks, inside vest and drawers of gray Scotch wool, latter with scarlet band, stand- up linen collar, patent neck- scarf, blue silk with yellow spots, brown hard round- topped felt hat, light lace- up boots, repaired at each toe. The above deceased was in company with a man unknown ( described below), in Derby, on Friday, the 1st instant; slept together on that night, at a public- house ; were together following day ( Saturday); both called at a gunsmith's about 7 P. M. ; and de- ceased purchased a box of 50 cartridges to fit a revolver ( since) identified as the one found beside deceased. 21 of the above cartridges were found in his pocket, 4 in revolver, and 1 discharged, leaving 24 unaccounted for. A small soft parcel, about 9 inches square, rolled in newspaper, and tied with string, was in deceased's hand when he left the public- house after breakfast, on Saturday, which is unaccounted for. About 5 feet 4 inches high, 26 years of age, light complexion, very slight whiskers, slight figure, dressed in dark blue cut- off jacket, check trowsers, hard " black round- topped felt hat, with flat wide brim. Has the appearance of a groom. An inquest has been held, and an open verdict returned. The circumstances of this case are so extremely suspicious that Police Officers are requested to cause immediate inquiry to be made, with the object of identifying the dead man, and tracing the man in whose company he was last seen, and communicate all information as early as possible. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 64, convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer Assizes, on the 3rd July, 1879, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 32 years of age, single, is a labourer, born at Monkstown, county Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, sandy complexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high; dot bit ween forefinger and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence from Mounfjoy Prison, 2nd January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He reported himself to the Police on same date, and said he had no Settled place of residence, but when he had procured one he would inform them. He has not done so up to the present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 & 35 Vie., section 5, cap. 112. January 18, 1886. PARTICULARS relative to English convict Margaret Ryan, convicted at Bristol, 6th January, 1882, for felony, after previous conviction of felony, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 years' police supervision ; 45 years of age on conviction, married, a charwoman, prison trade— tailoress, born in Ireland, resided before conviction at Bristol:— Gray hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, propor- tionate make, 5 feet high ; scar left side of neck, mole upper part of left arm This woman reported to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary at Waterford, the 16th November, 1885, her intention of going to Carrick- on- Suir, but she has not reported herself at the latter ptace, and her present whereabouts is unknown. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. DESCRIPTION of John Christy, native of Cartall, who stands charged with having, on the 5th of February, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Ballylinny, threatened to shoot John Chisolm, of same place:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 25 years of age^ fair curly hair; wore a hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a licensed publican. DESCRIPTION of John Devlin, native of Chapel- hill, who stands charged with having, on the 80th December, 1885 and 3rd January, 1836, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, attempted to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart: — Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet I or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved ; wore a soft black hat, black coat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. Lester, Brothers:— Bare spot on crown of head, walks stiffly, one shoulder higher than the other, coarse voice, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, (• tout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 36 years of age, dark hair, no whiskers, dark moustache ; wore a dark cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; was formerly at sea, and served in a dragoon rogiment; is a carter. The woman, name unknown, supposed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 3nth October, 1885, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of fhankhill, committed infanticide, his not beeu arrested; Hue- arid Cry, 6th November, 1885. Licensed convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. DESCRIPTION of three men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 29th January, 1886, in the barony of Tully- hunco, parish of Kildallen, being found unlawfully in the pursuit of game, and that No. 1 presented a gun at gamekeeper's son ( John Jos. Huggins), and threatened to shoot him:— 1. Shaven face, active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 80 years of age; wore a light gray suit of tweed; carried a single- barrelled gun. 2. Medium make, middle sized ; wore a two- peaked cap, and a dark twee'd suit; carried a single- barrelled gun. 3. Middle size, side whiskers, dark colour; wore a short hard hat, flat on crown, and a long brown coloured overcoat; carried a double- barrelled gun. No. 4 cannot be described. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 8rd day of January, 1886, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by i threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10s., and ' who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown:— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze coat, brown trowsers; spoke with a rough accent 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a blue cloth cap with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent Ennis, January 4, 1886. DESCRIPTION of James Smith, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the 11th February, 1886, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, robbed Edward Rafter, of Castlekelly, farmer, of a purse containing one five pound note, two pounds in gold, and about seventeen shillings and sixpence in silver:— Very large eyes, foolish looking, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight or medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, growing very thin on face; wore an old soft hat, three small buttons on side, old black cloth coat, moleskin trowsers patched on knees with corduroy, and tweed vest; is a labourer, and sup- posed deserter from Army. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding Smooth face, medium make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of age ; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Healy, native of Fehanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 14th February, 1886, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Tuosist, struck one Jeremiah Shea, with a stone on the head, thereby placing his life in danger :— Awkward gait, gray or blue eyes, thick nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft wide awake hat, brown tweed coat, gray flannel trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a gun and revolver, the property of Jeremiah Murphy, of Knockacurrane, which were stolen from his house at Knockacurrane, parish of Stradbally, and barony of Corkaguiny, on 19th De- cember, 1885, viz.:— A double- barrelled muzzle- loading fowling- piece, very much worn, brazed on top between stock and barrell, near the hammers; and value for £ 1 10s. A six- cliambered revolver with buck- horn handle, nicely browned, in good order, had some name cut on the part over the chamber, hut name unknown; and was value for £ 1 5s. Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Kildare DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th February, 1886, in the barony of North Salt, parish of Taghadoe, set fire to a rick of hay the property of Miss Rickards, of Corbally:— Dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair, chin shaved, wore side whiskers ; wore a soft jerry hat, dark worn coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a tramp. Naas, February 6, 1886. ( 72887 c.— 25451.) On the 22nd of January inst., James Slattery, a convict on ticket- of licence, who had failed to report himself, was returned for trial at Monasterevan Petty Sessions, for a robbery of plate from the R. C. Chapel there. In a bundle which he had there was some Altar linen, partly cut up, and a piece of embroidery on white satin, 3| yards long, inches deep, with a yellow fringe on one side 2 inches deep. The embroidery consisted of flowers and leaves in green and red, two rings at each end, and a large one in the centre containing the letters " I. H. S., " inter- laced in green, yellow, white and crimson. These do not belong to Monasterevan Chapel, and it is believed that Slattery committed a similar robbery elsewhere. DESCRIPTION of a horse, the property of John Kirwin, of Lemonstown, which was stolen out of his stable, at Lemonstown, in the parish of Kilmoganny, and barony of Kells, on the night of the 9th or morning of 10th February, 1886 :— A bay horse, in good condition, with rather large hoofs, about 14 hands high/ tail cut short, 7 yeirs old, and value for about f.^ O. DESCRIPTION of Peter Joseph Rooney, native ot Glenade, who stands chargod with having, on the 12th Docember, 1885, and on subsequent dates, in , the barony of Dromahaire, parish of Cloonclare, obtained several sums of money from one Thomas Loughlin, and others, by means of false pretences:— Large dark eye?, regular nose, fresh complexion, round faco, medium make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark curly hair ; wore a two- peaked cap, and dark clothes; drives a post car through tho country, and represents himself as a tea travoller, offers tea and sugar at vqgy low prices, and obtains some money, promising to send the goods. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low soft hat, dark tweed coat, cord trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a farmer's son Adare, January 16,1886. DESCRIPTION of John Kenny, native of Aughna- sillagh. who stands charged with having, on the 22nd of January, 1886, in the barony ot Moydow, parish of Kilglass, dangerously assaulted Michael Carrigy :— Good- looking, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, about 25 or 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a low hard hat, black cloth coat, tweed trowsers, and vest, and is supposed to wear a black or brown top coat; is a farmer and labourer.
