No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. — Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the oovers, or give tne number it bears, as without ttus information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fcc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, JANUARY 29, 1686. ENGLISH POLICE. IMMEDIATE AND IMPORTANT. ON the 3rd instant, about 7 A. M., the body of a man ( unknown), described below, was found lying dead on the Nottingham- road, near Chaddesden ( a few yards outside Derby borough boundary), with a bullet wound in his forehead, a small five- chambered pinfire 7 m. revolver, electro- platod, was found at his feet. Is 5 feet 5 inches higb, about 40 years of age, fair complexion, grayish blue eyes, brown hair, cut close, body strong and muscular, about 11 stone, large pockmark on tip of nose, another close to end of left nostril, close shaven, short scanty reddish moustache, had a red vulcanite false pallet in mouth ( owing to defect in natural pallet), has small soft hands, and does not appear to have been used to manual work, small feet ( a ring with three patent keys found on person), has the appearance of an Irishman, 8rd and 4th fingers on left hand, old - uyury. Dressed in reddish seed Scotch mixture overcoat, round short fancy cloth tattersall ( black ground with white and brown lines) bound with • black braid, brown and green Scotch cheviot mixture vest and trowsers, latter with fly front, black and gray wool socks, inside vest and drawers of gray Scotch wool, latter with scarlet band, stand- up linen collar, patent neck- scarf, blue silk with yellow spots, brown hard round- topped felt hat, light lace- up boots, repaired at each toe. The above deceased was in company with a man unknown ( described below), in Derby, on Friday, the 1st instant; slept together on that night, at a public- house j were together following day ( Saturday); both called at a gunsmith's about 7 P. M. ; and de- ceased purchased a box of 50 cartridges to fit a revolver ( since) identified as the one found beside deceased. 31 of the above cartridges were found in his pocket, 4 in revolver, and 1 discharged, leaving 24 unaccounted for. A small soft parcel, about 9 inches square, rolled in newspaper, and tied with string, was in deceased's hand when he left the public- house after breakfast, on Saturday, which is unaccounted for. About 5 feet 4 inches high, 86 years of age, light complexion, very slight whiskers, slight figure, dressed in dark blue cut- off jacket, check trowsers, hard black round- topped felt hat, with flat wide brim. Has the appearance of a groom. An inquest has been hold, and an open verdict leturned. The circumstances of this case are so extremely suspicious that Police Officers are requested to cause immediate inquiry to be made, with the object of identifying the dead man, and tracing the man in whose company he was last seen, and communicate all information as early as possible. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE G Division. PARTICULARS relative to convict James Schriber, A 362, convicted at Dublin City Commission, on the 2nd December, 1881, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude :— 23 years of age on con- viction ; single, is a watchmaker, born in Dublin, ^ here he resided before conviction, his friends Aside in France ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown Eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, s allow complexion, round visage, medium make, 5 feet TJ inches high, is pockpitted This man was released on Licence from Mountjoy Prison, 23rd November, 1885, and went to reside at 3, Denzille- street, Dublin, which place he left without reporting same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 and 35 Vic., Sec ° 5, cap. 112. General Prisons Board, January 18, 1886. ( 31913 M.— 59598. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 64, convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer Assizes, on the 3rd July, 1879, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years" penal servitude:— 32 years of age, single, is s labourer, born at Monkstown, county Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, sandy complexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet. 4 inches high; dot . between forefinger . and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence, from Mountjoy Prison, 2nd January, 1886, and went to reside ia Dublin. He reported himself to the Police on same date, and said he had no settled place of residence, but when he had procured one he would inform them. He has not done so up to the present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt witk under the Act 34 & 35 Vic., section 5T cap. 1j2. January 18, 1886. ( 31913 M.—- 59598.) PARTICULARS relative to English convict Margaret Ryan, convicted at Bristol, 6th January, 1882, for felony, after previous conviction of felony, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 years' polioe supervision ; 45 years of age on conviction, married, a charwoman, prison trade— tailoress, born in Ireland, resided before conviction at Bristol:— Gray hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, propor- tionate make, 5 feet high ; scar left side of neck, mole upper part of left arm. This woman reported to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary at Waterford, the 16th November, 1885, her intention of going to Carrick- on- Suir, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 28, 1885. ( 31390 59422.) DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis. lOrf. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, B feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDy, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. DESCRIPTION of John Devlin, native of Chapel- hill, who stands charged with having, on the 30th December, 1885 and 3rd January, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, attempted to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart:— Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, i feet 1 or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved; wore a soft black hat, black cqat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of James Graham, native of Temple- patrick, who stands charged with having, on the lTth December, 1885, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Racavan, embezzled the sum of j9S6 Sg. the property of his employers, Messrs. Lester, Brothers:— Bare spot on crown of head, walks stiffly, one shoulder higher than the other, coarse voice, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 36 years of age, dark hair, no whiskers, dark moustache ; wore a dark cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; was formerly at sea, and served in a dragoon regiment; is a carter. Constabulary at Ballymena hold warrant for his arrest. Ballymena, Dec.. 18, 1885. ( 72068 c.— 24166.) DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, & nd Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDy, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict Samuel Robinson ( failing to report him- self), has been arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 5th January, 1886. convict William M'Manus ( failing to report him- self), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 11th December, 1885. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. Convict James Slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. Richard Mayes, native of Lisbum ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1885, committed a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th September, 1885. Belfast. The woman, name unknown, supposed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide, has not been arrested; Hue- and Cry, 6th November, 1885. Licensed convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Carlow. John Gethings ( sheep stealing) described in the Hue- and- Cry of 19th instant, has been arrested. Cavan. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Clare. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 8rd day of January, 1886, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market street, Ennis, at about tho hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10j., and who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown:— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze coat, brown trowsers; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inche3 high, about 30 years of age, dark hair.; wore a blue cloth cap with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent. Ennis, January 4, 1886. ( 72399 c.— 24626.) Cork. Ellen Sheridan, alias Hogan ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 8th December, 1885. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 4th December, 1885. Donegal DESCRIPTION of Fanny O'Donnell, native of Dungloe, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of January, 1886, in the barony of Raphoe, parish of Raphoe, drowned her illegitimate male child, aged six weeks:— Short prominent upper lip, hair scanty cut in front to form fringe, ears pierced but no earrings, light blue eyes ( suffering from cold), rather short nose, pale sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark fair hair ; wore a faded cotton dress with flounces, green plaid shawl, strong laced boots ( much worn) ; is a servant. DESCRIPTION ' of John Whelan, native of Mary- borough, who stands charged with having on the 19th ( iay of January, 1886, in the barony of Rath- down, parish of Old Connaught, broken into the Protestant Church, known as Crinkin Church, in the sub- district of Tillytown, aqcl robbed therefrom a red velvet Communion table cloth, value £ 12; two white Holland covers ( the Communion cloth and covers have been recovered); a black silk tabinet cassock, black alpaca, with girdle in pocket, marked with the initials T. E. H. in white thread; two M. A. hoods, pne dark, the other light- blue, the latter, with two button- holes in front for band of collar, stained with port wine ; five or six long blue markers, a couple of inches wide, with gold fringe ; and a black case con taining some long sharp nose, slight make, about 5 feet 2 inches high, about 45 years of age, black hair, tinged with gray, whiskers clipped very close, may be shaved off, brown moustache, shaggy and growing into his mouth, had beard on chin turned up towards his mouth ; wore a black jerry hat, black double- breasted coat ( braided), ho pockets on hips, a light coloured inside dust coat, and tweed trowsers; sometimes wears handkerchief for a muffler round his neck, generally carries an ashplant. Will probably seek shelter in low lodgings, speaks of knowing keepers of such at Naas and Maryborough; is a brushmaker and tramp. Dundrum, January 27,1886. ( 72658 « .— 25074.) DESCRIPTION of a parson, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding:— Smooth face, medium make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of 8ge; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. Tuam, Jan. 10, 1886. ( 72148 o.— 24755.) John Mulkerrin and Patt Madden, ( assault endangering life), not' arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. John Wood ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 5th January, 1886. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of a gun and revolver, the property of Jeremiah Murphy, of Knockacurrane, which were stolen from his house at Knockacurrane, parish of Stradbally, and barony of Corkaguiny, on 19th De- cember, 1885, viz.:— A double- barrelled muzzle- loading fowling- piece, very much worn, brazed on top between stock and barrell, near the hammers; and value for £ 1 10*. A six- chambered revolver with buck- horn handle, nicely browned, in good order, had some name cut on the part over the chamber, but name unknown; and was value for £ 1 5s. Dingle, December 24, 1885. ( 72128 c.— 24332.) Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare. On the 22nd of January inst., James Slattery, a convict on ticket- of- licence, who had failed to report himself, was returned for trial at Monasterevan Petty Sessions, for a robbery of plate from the R. C. Chapel there. In a bundle which he had there was some Altar linen, partly cut up, and a piece of embroidery on white satin, 3| yards long, 8^ inches deep, with a yellow fringe on one side 2 inches deep. The embroidery consisted of flowers and leaves in green and red, two rings at each end, and a large one in the centre containing the letters " I. H. S.," inter- laced in green, yellow, white and crimson. These not belong to Monasterevan Chapel, and it is believed that Slattery committed a similar robbery elsewhere. Information to be given to District Inspector, Kildare. Kildare, January 26. 1886. ( 72636 c.— 25041.) Kilkenny. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the Guardians of said union), has not been clerical bands:— Stooped shoulders, ! arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 15th May, 1885, holds ljis head down when walking, sunken chest, consumptive looking, has a'bad cough, gray eyes, Patrick Canty ( embezzlement), not arrested; Sueand- Cry, 11th November, 1884, King's. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who on the 18th January, 1886, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's county:— Patrick Roache, 799, 17 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high,' stout make, red complexion, red hair, gray eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage, mark of an old sore on right leg. Formerly belonged to Knoekmahon, county Waterford, where his parents reside. The dress, consists of brown tweed trowsers, vest and tunic, hard felt cap, and blucher boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, Jif arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Bourke, Esq., which were maliciously driven off the lands of Lacknascarry, parish of Ballinaclough, barony of Coonagh, on the night of the 11th January, 1886, and are now supposed to be, stolen, viz.:— 1. A heifer, 1J years old, red colour with white spots over body, and one white spot on left flank, in good condition-; value for £ 10. • 2. and 3. Supposed to be red colour, 1J years old; value for £ 10 each. Sex of Nos. 2 and 3 not known. New Pallas, Jan. 27, 1886. ( 72743 c.— 25209.) DESCRIPTION of Michael Power, and John Power, natives of Kilmeedy, and William Kiely' ( mother's surname Irwin), native of Dromminacreena, who stand charged with having, on the 8th January, 1886, in the barony of Upper Connello, parish of Ballingarry, seriously assaulted Catherine Fitzgibbon, and thereby placed her life in danger: 1. Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, gray tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a cooper. 2. Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet- 6 inches high, about 3 9 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a cooper. 3. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low soft hat, dark tweed coat, cord trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a farmer's son Adare, January 16, 1886. Mary FitzGibbon, ( name supposed fictitious) ( robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd December, 1885. Timothy Lenehan ( assault by stabbing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Ory, 6th October, 1885. Frederick F. Featherstone ( embezzlement), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 18th September, 1885, Londonderry. Margaret Sweeney, ( child desertion), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 17th November, 1885. Henry E. Macann ( indecent assault), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 7th April, 1885. Longford. DESCRIPTION of John Kenny, native of Aughna- sillagh, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd of January, 1886, in the barony of Moydow, parish of Kilglass, dangerously assaulted Michael Carrigy :— Good- looking, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 25 or 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a low hard hat, black cloth coat, tweed trowser3, and vest, and is supposed to wear a black or brown top coat; is a farmer and labourer. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Brown, native of Kilcurry, who stands charged with having, on the night of 25th December, 1885, in the barony of Shrule, parish of taghshinny, seriouslv assaulted Mathew Ryan, of Kilcurry, in conjunction with James Dougherty, who has surrendered:— Good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stouA make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of agejl brown hair; wore a dark coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Healy, native of Carnaclory, county Sligo, who stands charged with having, on the 21st day of January, 1886, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Killedan, assaulted Edward Hussey, assistant messenger of the Court of Bankruptcy, Ireland, after bolng arrested on a Warrant issued by said Court, thereby effecting his escape from legal custody:— Holds down his head, and appears shy when spoken to, high cheek bones, strong features, small fair moustache, no beard or whiskers, full gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 6 feet 9 inches higb, about 24 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low black hat, wide leaf, dark tweed or serge coat, gray tweed trowsers, dark vest, may bo wearing a dark tweed ulster coat; is a shopkeeper. DESCRIPTION of Robert Peyton ( mother's surname Boughton), native of Westlands, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1884, ; n the barony of Carra, parish of Ballyhean, committed rape":— Gentlemanly appcaratice, sometimes wears glasses; blue eyes, aquiline nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, dark gray overcoat; is a gentleman. DESCRIPTION of Bryan Doonan ( mother's surname Caulfield), native of Ardcul, who stands charged with having, otithe 31st December, 1885, in the barony of costello, parish of Castlemore, committed a serious assault on his brother, Michael Doonan:— Dark eyes, straight nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair, and small black moustache; wore a round hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. James Flynn ( fraud), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th October, 1885. Sligo. DESCRIPTION of Margaret Burns, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of November, 1885, at Sligo, in the barony of Carbury, parish of St. John's, failed to appear to prosecute on information made by her a3 to an assault committed on her by one Thomas Kearns at Sligo, on 22nd June, 1885.
