I ' ison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, Ac., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 1886. —! ENGLISH POLICE. IMMEDIATE AND IMPORTANT. ON t) io 3rd instant, ahout 7 A. M , the body of a man ( unknown), described below, was found lying dead on the Nottingham- road, near Chaddesden ( a few yards outside Derby borough boundary\ with a bullet wound in his forehead, a small five- chambered pinfire 7 m. revolver, electro- platsd, was found at his feet x Is 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair complexion', grayish blue « yes, brown hair, cut close, body strong and muscular, about 11 stone, large pockmark on tip of nose, another close to end of left nostril, close shaven, short scanty reddish moustache, had a red vulcanite false pallet in mouth ( owing to detect in nat tral pallet), has small soft hands, and does not appear to have been used to manual work, small feet ( a ring with three patent keys found on person), has the appearance of an Irishman, 8rd and 4 th fingers on left hand, old injury. Dressed in reddish seed Scotch iftiXttlfe ovfr&> round short fancy cloth tattersall ( black ground with white and brown lines) bound with black braid, l » rown and groen Scotch cheviot mixture vest and trowsers. latter with fly front, black and gray wool socks, inside vest and drawers of gray Scotch wool, latter with scarlet band, stand- up linen collar,' patent neck- scarf, blue silk with yellow spots, brown hard round- topped felt hut, light lace- up boots, repaired at each toe. The above deceased was in company with a man unknown ( described below), in Derby, on Friday, the 1st instant; slept together on that night, at a public- house ; were together following day ( Saturday); both called at a gunsmith's about 7 P. M. ; and de- ceased purchased a box of 50 cartridges to fit a revolver ( since) identified as the one found beside deceased. 91 of the above cartridges were found in his pocket, 4 in revolver, and 1 discharged, leaving .24 unaccounted for. A small soft parcel, about 9 inches square, rolled in newspaper, and tied with string, was in deceased's hand when he left the public- house after breakfast, on Saturday, which is unaccounted for. About 5 feet 4 inches high, 26 years of age, light complexion, very slight whiskers, slight figure, dressed in dark blue feut- oft' jacket, check trowsers, hard black round- topped felt hat, with flat wide brim. Has the appearance of a groom. An inquest has been held, and an open verdict leturned. , The circumstances of this case are so extremoly suspicious that Police Officers are requested to cause immediate inquiry to be made, with the object of identifying the dead man, and tracing the man in whoso company he was last seen, and communicate all information as early as possible. S." engraved on one side, and ivy leaves chased on the other; lady's gold diamond and ruby ring, snake pattern, engraved inside "' E. Walmsley, from her brother, December 1st, 1* 83 " ; lady's gold ruby and pearl ring, three rubies in centre and pearls on each side; lady's cnstal and rubv ring; one plain silver bangle; two silver clasp bracelets ; one very thin silver bracelet, chased ; set of gold and silver brooch and ear- rings, gold horse sbT> e in centre and silver ihip; silver brooch and ear- rings, ball pattern, two lUstlrArrpar rin » ; silver locket and chain, initials on locket, " L. W." ; gold brooch, set with pearls and" rubies ; gold chased cross, hiis had a pearl in centre which is missing j one plain gold brooch ; one brooch and ear- rings, enamelled black and gold ; one large silver brooch ; plain piece in centre: lady's gold ring, set with three rubies and pearls ; one silver brooch, fan pattern ; one silver cross, chased, a small locket on top ; a light brown pocket book in which were five receipts for £ 10 each, from Mr. Buckley ; Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher's marriage certificate a child's birth certificate, and £ i in gold and ten shillings in silver; life policy of Thomas Joseph Fletcher, in the Gresham Life Insurance Company, for £ 500, payable at death or at the age of 50. By a man about 33 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches, well built, square shoulders, s » llow com- plexion, dark hair, light brown moustache, dressed in dark brown overcoat, dark billycock hat, very low crown and broad brim, wears a pair of browu kid gloves, aud carries a small bright leather bag. Polico officers are requested to make particular enquiries at pawnbrokers, jewellers, silversmiths, and others for the above described property; and should any trace of it or the thieves be obtained to communicate without delay to CHAS. PARTICULARS relative to convict James Schriber, A 362, convicted at Dublin City Commission, on the 2nd December, 1881, for * larceny, and sentenced to 6 years penal servitude years of age on con- viction ; single, is a watchmaker, born in Dublin, where he resided before conviction, his friends reside in France ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, s allow complexion, round visage, medium make, 5 feet 7J inches high, is pockpitted This man was released on Licence from Mountjoy Prison, 23rd November, 1885, and went to reside at 3, Denzille- street, Dublin, which place he left without reporting same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 and 35 vic., Sec 5, cap. 112. General Prisons Board, January 18, 1886. ( 31913 11.— 59593. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 64, convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer Assizes, on the Srd July, 187 » , for larcenv and previous conviction, an « l sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 32 years of age, single, is » labourer, born at Monkstown, county Dublin, his fiiends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, sandy complexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high; dot bstween forefinger and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, 2nd January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He reported himself to the Police on same date, and said he had no settled place of residence, but when he had procured one he would inform them. He has not done so up to tho present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 < fc 35 Vic., section 5, cap. 112. January 18, 1680. ( 31913 M.— 59598.) PARTICULARS relative to English convict Margaret Ryan, convicted at Bristol, 6th January, 1882, for felony, after previous conviction of felony, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 years' police supervision ; 45 years of age on conviction, married, a charwoman, prison trade— tail > ress, born in Ireland, resided before conviction at Bristol:— Gray hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, propor- tionate nfake, 5 feet high ; scar left side of neck, mole upper part of left arm. This woman reported to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary at Waterford, the 16th November, 1886, her intention of going to Carrick- on- Suir, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 28, 1885. ( 31390 M.— 59422.) DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, wh » is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis 1 Od. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, OT moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent Superintendent's Office, G Division, September 3, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank ( Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, aud absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state :— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark board, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS HUE- AND- CRY, JANUARY 2 8, 1886, generally wears a silk hat: is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict William M'Manus ( failing to report him- self), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th December, 1885. Convict James Hearty, described in Huc- and- Cry of 8th of last mouth, has not been arrested. Convict Samuel Robinson ( failing to report him- solf), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 5th January, 1886. Convict James Slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DicsORtPTiev of John Devlin, native of Chapel- hill, who stands charged with having, on the 80th December, 1885 and 3rd January, 1836, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, I attempted to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart:— ' Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet t or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved; wore a soft black hat, black coat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. DES « RInation of James Graham, native of Temple- patrick, who stands charged with having, on the 17th December, 1885, in the barony of Lower Ajitrim, parish of Racavan, embezzled the sum of £ 86 Ss. the property of his employers, Messrs. Lester, Brothers:— Bare spot on crown of head, walks stiffly, one shoulder higher than tho other, coarse voice, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, p* out make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 86 years of age. dark hair, no whiskers, dark moustache ; wore a dark cap, dark tweed coat, trpwsers, and vest; was formerly at sea, and served in a dragoon regiment; . is a carter. Constabulary at Ballymena hold warrant for his arrest Ballymena, Dec. 18, 1888. ( 72068 c.— 24165.) Hamilton Black ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th October, 1885. Richard Mayes, native of Lisburn ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1885, committed a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, l& th September, 1886. Belfast. The woman, name unknown, supposed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide, his not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th Novembor, 1885. Liceused convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Carlow. DESCRIPTION of John Gettings, native of Dominga, near Goresbridge, county Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on or about the 18th December, 1885, in the barony of Idrone West, parish of Wells, stolen a sheep, the property of John White, of Fenniscourt, near Bagenalstown :— Dark brown eyes, cocked nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand chargcd with having, on the 8rd day of January, 1880, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus. at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 3"> 10*., and who also took from her shop tour bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown :— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair ; wore a two- peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze coit, brown trowsers ; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair ; wore a blue cloth c* p with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent Ennis, January 4, 1886. ( 72339 c.— 21626.) Cork. Ellen Sheridan, alias Hogan ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 8th December, 1885. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Donegal DESCRIPTION of Fanny O'Donnell, native of Dungloe, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of January, 1886, in the barony of Raphoe, parish of Raphoe, drowned her illegitimate male child, aged six weeks:— Short prominent upper lip, hair scanty, cut in front to form fringe, ears pierced but no earrings, light blue eyes ( suffering from coldj), rather short nose, pale sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark fair hair ; wore a faded cotton dress with flounces, green plaid shawl, strong laced boots ( much worn) ; is a servant. Raphoe, January 20, 1886. ( 72558 a— 81947.) Down. The person, name and native place then unknown, but who turns out to be Convict Samuel Robinson ( sheep stealing), described in last Hue- and- Cry, has been arrested Dublin. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place un- known, who stands charged with having on the 19th day of January, 1886, in the barony of rathdown, parish of Old Connaught, broken into the Protestant Church, known as Crinkin Church, in the sub- district of Tillytown, and robbed therefrom a red velvet Communion~ table cloth, value £ 12; two white Holland covers ( the Communion cloth and covers have been recovered); a black silk tabinet cassock, back alpaca, with girdle in pocket, marked with initials T. E. H. in white thread ; two M. A. hoods, one dark, the other light- blue, the latter, with two button- holes in front for band of collar, stained with port wine ; five or six long blue markers, a couple of inches wide, with gold fringe ; and a black case con- taining some clerical bands :— Very delicate looking as if consumptive, stooped shoulders, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown whiskers thin on jaws, very shabbily dressed ; apparently a tramp. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding:—- Smooth face, medium make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of oge ; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. John Wood ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 5th January, 1886. Kerry. DEscuir rios of a gun and revolver, the property of Jeremiah Murphy, of Knockacurrane, which were ' stolen from his house at Knockacurraue, parish of Stradbally, and barony of Corkaguiny, on 19th De- cember, 1885, viz.:— A double- barrelled muzzle- loading fowling- piece, very much worn, brazed on top between stock and barrcll, near the hammers; and r'lue for £ 1 10 « . A six- chambercd revolver with buck- horn handle, nicely browned, in good order, had some name cut, on the part over the chamber, but name unknown; and was value for £ 1 5s. Dingle, December 24, 1885. ( 72128 c.— 24332.) Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of ' Molahiffe, murdered John O' C. Curtin), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare Patrick Neill, ( robbery of clothing), hns been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd December, 1885. Kilkenny. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arres .. 1 Hue- and- Cry, 10th July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the Guardians of said union), has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th May, 1885. Patrick Canty ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th November, 1884. V King's. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender,, who on the 18th January, 1886, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's county:— Patrick Roache, 799, 17 years of age, 5 f< set 8 inches high, stout make, red complexion, red bair, gray eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage, mark of an old sore on right leg. Formerly belonged to Knockmahon, county Waterford, where his parents reside. The dress, consists of brown tweed trowsers, vest and tunic, hard felt cap, and blucher boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his cunveyancojif iirrested, ro the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of Michael Power, and John Power, natives of Kilmeedy, and William Kiely ( mother's surname Irwin), native of Dromminacreena, who stand charged with having, on the 8th January, 1886, in the tarony of Upper Connello, parish, of Ballingarry, seriously assaulted Catherine Fitzgibbon, and thereby placed her life in danger: 1. Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, gray tweed coat, tweed trows'ers and vest; is a cooper. 2. Blue ayes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin fice, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, fair hair; wore a low soft hat, dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a cooper. 3. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make. 5 feet 6 inches high, about, 18 years of age, light brown hair; wore a low soft bat, dark tweed coat, cord trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a fanner's son Adare, January 16, 1886. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Butler, native of Kyle, who stands charged with having, on the 14th December, 1885, in barony of Owneybeg, parish of Tnogh, assaulted Richard Mackey, of Shanballyedmond, by striking him on the head with a blackthorn stiek, and thereby placing his life in danger:— Pimples on face, dark eyes, long thin nose, pale complexion, thin is. ee, slight active make, 5 feet inches high, about 28 yoars of age, dark hair, wore a dark moustache and no whiskers; wore a dark frieze coat, brown tweed browsers, and vest; is a farmer. Longford. * DESCRIPTION of Thomas Brown, native of Kilcurry, ^^ t ^ stands charged with having, on the night of JPpfnDecember, 1885, in the barony of Shrule, parish of Taghshinny, seriously assaulted Mathew Ryan, of Kilcurry, in conjunction with James Dougherty, who has surrendered;— Good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 21 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Margaret Burns, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of November, 1885, at Sligo, in the barony of Carbury, parish of St. John's, failed to appear to prosecute on information made by her as to an assault committed on fcer by one Thomas Kearns at Sligo, on 22nd June, 1885. She is believed to be purposely keeping out of the way to avoid giving evidence in the case. Her husband is an itinerant musician and she prabably accompanies him :— Gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, slight make, 4 feet 3 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair ; wore a lindsey dress, old gray shawl, old laced boots. Two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having on the night of the 11th December, 1885, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Kilmore, been two Moonlighters, armed with revolvers, who entered the house of Denis Manning, of Ballincur, and forcibly took therefrom a double- barrelled gun, not arrested ; Ilue- and- Cry, 15th December, 1885.
