Prison and Polico Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, -& c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JANUARY 19, 1886. ENGLISH POLICE. IMMEDIATE AND IMPORTANT. ON tho 3rd instant, about 7 A. H , the body of a man ( unknown), described below, was found lying dead on the Nottingham- road, near Chaddesden ( a few yards outside Derby borough boundary), with a bullet wound in his forehead, a small five- chambered pinfire 7 m. revolver, electro- plated, was found at his feet. Is 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair complexion, grayish blue eyes, brown hair, cut close, body strong and muscular, about 11 stone, large pockmark on tip of nose, another close to end of left nostril, close shaven, short scanty reddish moustache, had a red vulcanite false pallet in mouth ( owing to defect in natural pallet^, has smill soft hands, and does not appear to have been used to manual w » rk, small feet ( a ring with three patent keys found on person), has the appearance of an Irishman, 3rd and 4th fingers on left hand, old injury. Dressed in reddish seed Scotch mixture overcoat, jmc4 short fancy cloth tattersall ( black ground with white and brown lines)' bound with black braid, brown and green Scotch cheviot mixture vest and trowsers, latter with fly front, black and gray wool socks, inside vest and drawers of gray Scotch wool, latter with scarlet band, stand- up linen collar, patent neck- scarf, blue silk with yellow spots, brown hard round- topped felt hat, light lace- up boots, repaired at each toe. The above deceased was in company with a man unknown ( described below), in Derby, on Friday, the 1st instant; slept together on that night, at a public- house; were together following day ( Saturday); both called at a gunsmith's about 7 P. M. ; and de- ceased purchased a box of 50 cartridges to fit a revolver ( since) identified as the one found boside deceased. 21 of the above cartridges were found in his pocket, 4. in revolver, and 1 discharged, leaving 24 unaccounted for. A small soft parcel, about 9 inches square, rolled in newspaper, and tied with string, was in deceased's hand when he left the public- house after breakfast, on Saturday, which is unaccounted for. About 5 feet 4 inches high, 26 years of age, light complexion, very slight whiskers, slight figure, dressed in dark blue cut- off jacket, check trowsers, hard black round- topped felt hat, with fiat wide brim. Has the appearance of a groom. An inquest has been held, and an open verdict returned. The circumstances of this case are so extremely suspicious that Police Officers are requested to cause immediate inquiry to be made, with the object of identifying the dead man, and tracing the man in whose company he was last seen, and communicate all information as early ns possible. HALIFAX BOROUGH POLICE, STOLEN from an hotel in this Borough about two p. m. on the 2nd instant, a lady's gold hunting watch, engine turned cases, with initials " J. S."; lady' s long gold thick chain, hollow links; lady's gold buckle keeper ring, set with two small diamonds, engraved inside " T. J. F. to E. S."; lady's very old fashioned dead gold ring, set with one large diamond; lady" g^.. ld ring, set with opal in centre snd twelve small diamonds round ; lady's gold coral and diamond ring, Sct with three pale corals in oentre and three diamonds at each end: lady's gold mourning ring, black stone in centre, with blue forget- me- not carved on the stone; lady's gold ruby ring, rubies in line and half covered with setting; gent's gold buckle ring, with tongue broken off; gent's gold horse shoe pin, set with six diamonds ; gent's gold signet ring, with " T. J. F." engraved upon it ; gold brooch, with fringe hanging from bottom, set with large sapphire stone and two rows of pearls round, used as brooch and pendant; gold brooch, set with large white stone, forget- me- not and stalks let into top of stone; the stalks are of gold, and the forget- me- not is formed of blue stones, two of which are missing ; pair of gold solitaires, chased on front; pair of gold sleeve links, 18 carat, hall marked; large silver locket, " J. S." engraved on one side, and ivy leaves chased on the other; lady's gold diamond and ruby ring, snake pattern, engraved inside " E. Walmsley, from her brother, December 1st, 1883 "; lady's gold ruby and pearl ring, three rubies in centre and pearls on each side ; lady's crystal and ruby ring ; one plain silver bangle; two silver clasp bracelets ; one very thin silver bracelet, chased ; set of gold and silver brooch and ear- rings, gold horse shoe in centre and silver whip ; silver brooch and ear- rings, ball pattern, two balls form ear- ring ; silver locket and chain, initial on locket, l./ W?'; gold WNfft, set with pearls an rubies ; gold chased cross, has had a pearl in ce, ntre which is missing ; one plain gold brooch ; one brooch and ear- rings, enamelled black and gold; one large silveir brooch ; plain piece in centre: lady's gold ring, set with three rubies and pearls ; one silver brooch, fan pattern ; one silver cross, chased, a small locket on top; a light brown pocket book in which were five receipts for £ 10 each, from Mr. Buckley; Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher's marriage certificate, a child's birth certificate, and £ 3 in gold and ten shillings in silver; life policy of Thomas Joseph Fletcher, in the Gresham Life Insurance Company, for £ 500, payable at death or at the sge of 50. By a man about 33 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches, well built, square shoulders, sallow com- plexion, dark hair, light brown moustache, dressed in dark brown overcoat, dark billycock hat, very low crown and broad brim, wears a pair of brown kid gloves, and carries a small bright leather bag. Police officers are requested to make! particular enquiries at pawnbrokers, jewellers, silversmiths, and others for the above described property; and should any trace of it or fee thieves be obtained to communicate without delay to CHAS. STOLEN by means of housebreaking, during the night of 25th and morning of 26th December, 1885, from Ayr- road Railway Station ( Caledonian Railway), in this county :— A Tam- o- Shanter bonnet. Astrachan cloth, size for boy of 4 years; a small hand- axe stamped " C. R." Also by means of housebreaking during the night of 30th and morning of 31st December, 1885, from Mount Vernon Station ( North British Railway), in this county :— A brown leather portmanteau, having two straps and " J. B. G." painted in black, maker Hanley, Argyle- street, Glasgow, containing :— A gentleman's black cloth dress suit, M'Leod on hanger; A black worsted coat, M'Leod, Glasgow, on hanger; two shirts, six collars, four cuffs, all marked Reilly, Webster and Borland, Argyle- street, Glas- gow ; a night shirt marked J. Boyd; a pmr of patent leather shoes ; two pairs worsted and one pair of silk socks, with red spots ; two sailor suits, for boys, embroidered on left sleeve with coloured silk, one marked " B." inside; a girls brown velveteen cape, trimmed with fur ; a crimson silk sash. A brown leather " Gladstone" portmanteau, having two brass clasps, and " J. B. G." painted black, containing :— A pale blue knitted shawl, and a blue and white 6hawl; a black cashmere dress ; a pair of patent leather slippers ; three linen and four muslin aprons ( white); a pocket Bible ; a servant's muslin cap; three linen collars ( lady's) ; one pair cuffs ( lady's) ; two pocket handkerchiefs ( lady's) ; one pair kid gloves ( lady's) ; a lady's black satin dress, trimmed with black lace and jet, and a brown cashmere and velveteen dress ; a child's brown velveteen dress ; a baby's straw coloured silk shawl ; a pair of brown kid ( lady's), and two pairs of brown kid boots ( children's) ; a silver card case, having Mrs. John Boyd's cards inside; a small gold mosaic brooch. A pair of trowsers and ajpair of boots, recovered, were pledged in a pawn office in Young- street, off GaJlowgate, Glasgow, about 8.30 A. M , on 31st December, 1885, by a woman who gave the name and address " Mary Smith, 30, Annfield- street, Glasgow," and is described by the pawnbroker, who will be able to identify her, as fo, llows:— 30 to 35 years of age, dark hair, pale face, medium height and her head. • * Information to Superintendent STEWART, Coat- bridge, or to Chief Inspector CARMICHAEL, Hamilton N. B. Hamilton, January 2, 1886. ( 31831 M.— 59486.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE G Division. PARTICULARS relative to convict James Schriber, A 362, convicted at Dublin City Commission, on the 2nd December, 1881, for larceny, and sentenced to 6 years penal servitude:— 22 years of age on con- viction ; single, is a watchmaker, born' in Dublin, where he resided before conviction, his friends reside in France ; brown hair, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, s allow complexion, round' visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high, is pockpitted This man was released on Licence from Mountjoy Prison, 23rd November, 1885, and went to reside at 3, Denzille- street, Dublin, which place be left without reporting same to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 and 35 Vic., Sec 5, cap. 112. General Prisons Board, January 18, 1886. ( 31913 M.— 59598. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Herbert, A 64, convicted at Newry, county Down, at the Summer Assizes, on the 3rd July, 1879, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:—- 32 years of age, single, is a labourer, born at Monkstown, county Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmines; light brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, ' medium mouth, sandy complexion, broad visage, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high; dot between forefinger and thumb, both hands. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, 2nd January, 1886, and went to reside in Dublin. He reported himself to the Police on same date, and said lie had no settled place of residence, but when he had procured one he would inform them. He has not done so up to the present, and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Act 34 & 35 Vic., section 6, cap. 112. January 18, 1886. Joseph Clarke ( robbery of money), described in Hue- and- Cry of 17th July last, has been arrested. V* Hamilton Black ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th October, 1885. Richard Mayes, native of Lisburn ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1885, committed a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th September, 1885. Belfast. The woman, name unknown, supposed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th oi\ morning of 30th October, 1885, iD the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th November, 1885. . Licensed convict George M'Cullagh ( not reporting change of residence), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Thomas Cullen ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Carlow. DESCRIPTION of John Gettings, native of Dominga, near Goresbridge, county Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on or about the 18th December, 1885, in the barony of Idrone West, parish of Wells, stolen a sheep, the property of John White, of Fenniscourt, near Bagenalstown :— Dark brown eyes, cocked nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair: is a labourer. Bagenalstown, Dec. 22,1885. ( 71222 c.— 24245.) The bullock, the property of Mr. James Byrne, which was stolen from the lands of Mortarstown, has been recovered, andfthe offender arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 12th January, 1886. Galway. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with hav^ P^ MMtlie 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding:— Smooth face, medium make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of age ; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. DESCRIPTION of John Mulkerrin, native of Letter- deskert, and Patt Madden, native of Mweenish Island, who stand charged with having, on the 26th November, 1885, in the barony of Ballinahinch, parish of Moyrus, assaulted Michael M'Donough, causing his life to be in danger :— 1. Smart active appearance, moustache lately clipped short, full red beard, regular nose, fair com- plexion, thin freckled face, medium make, 5 feet 10£ inches high, about 30 . years of age, brown hair ; wore a hard round hat, brown coat ( much worn); is a farmer's son. 2. Good looking, slight downey beard and mous- tache, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; dressed in Cocnemara frieze, which is gray; is a farmer's son and fisherman. DESCRIPTION of a gun and revolver, the property of Jeremiah Murphy, of Knockacurrane, which were stolen from his house at Knockacurrane, parish of Stradbally, and barony of Corkaguiny, on 19th De- cember, 1885, viz.:— A double- barrelled muzzle- loading fowling- piece, very much worn, brazed on top between stock and barrell, near the hammers; and value for £ 1 10s. A six- cliambered revolver with buck- horn handle, nicely browned, in good order, had some name cut on the part over the chamber, but name unknown; and was value for £ 1 5s. Dingle, December 24, 1885. ( 7212S c.— 21332.) PARTICULARS relative to English convict Margaret Ryan, convicted at Bristol, 6th January, 1882, for felony, after previous conviction of felony, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 years' police supervision ; 45 years of age on conviction, married, a chartvoman, prison trade— tailoress, born in Ireland, resided before conviction at Bristol:— Gray hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, propor- tionate make, 5 feet high; scar left side of neck, mole upper part of left arm. This woman reported to the Royal Irish Con stabulary at Waterford, the 16th November, 1885, her intention of going to Carrick- on- Suir, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 28, 1885. ( 31390 M._ 59422.) DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously stoal the sum of £ 2,391 lis. lOrf. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, DO beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Dctective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G Division, September 3, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict William M'Manus ( failing to report him- self), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th December, 1885. Convict James Hearty, described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has not been arrested. Convict Samuel Robinson ( failing to report him- self); not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 5th January, 1886. Convict James Slattery ( failing to report himself), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 5th January, 1886. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of John Devlin, native of Chapel- hill, who stands charged with haviDg, on the 80th December, 1885 and 3rd January, 1886, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of Templepatrick, attempted to commit a rape on Mary Ann Stewart:— Tender eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round faco, stout make, 5 feet I or 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, light moustache and sido whiskers, chin shaved; wore a soft black hat, black coat, patched corduroy trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. Antrim, January 12, 1886. ( 72501 c.— 24806.) DESCRIPTION of James Graham, native of Temple- patrick, who stands charged with having, on the 17th December, 1885, in thg barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Racavan, embezzled the sum of £ 36 85. the property of his employers, Messrs. Lester, Brothers:— Bare spot on crown of head, waits stiffly, one shoulder higher than the other, coarse voice, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches Cavan. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Clare. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 8rd day of January, 1886, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10s., and who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown :— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- peaked gray tweed cap, long gray frieze ceat, brown trowsers; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a blue cloth1 cap with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent. Ennis, January 4, 1886. ( 72399 c.— 24626.) Cork. Ellen Sheridan ( robbery of money), described in Hue- and- Cry of 8th of last month, has been ar- rested. Ellen Sheridan, alias Hogan ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 8th December, 1885. Patrick Quinn ( charged with having been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th December, 1885. Down. The person, name and native place then unknown, but who turns out to be William M'Kelvey ( sheep stealing), described in last Hue- and- Cry, has been arrested. Dublin. Charles Manly ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry 3rd November, 1885. Fermanagh. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884, Daniel Sullivan ( charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of MolahifFe, murdered John O'C. Curtin), not' arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th November, 1885. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of a person, name supposed to be Patrick Neill, native of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 16th December, 1885, at Naas, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Naas, carried away from the house of Thomas Dunne, where he lodged, a dark plaid trowsers, leather casing for back of heels, black frieze patch on seat, well worn; a brown dress coat, nearly " new, corded with a little red mixture, pocket behind, gray salvage behind at split, wanting a button at each side of breast; a new hard felt black hat, low crown, Dame- street, Dublin, marked on label, inside; a strong oak stick, turned- top brass ferrule, with holes in it, made out of a cock:— Small brown eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, shaven face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair; wore the above described clothes, and carries the stick; is a navvy. This man had two sheep in his possession supposed to have been stolen. Warrant for arrest, in the hands of the District Inspector at Naas. Naas, December 19, 1885. ( 72054 c.— 24141.) Kilkenny. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 10th July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the Guardians of said union), has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th May, 1885. Patrick Canty ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th November, 1884. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Butler, native of Kyle, who stands charged with having, on the 14th December, 1885, in barony of Owneybeg, parish of Tuogh, assaulted Richard Mackey, of Shanballyedmond, by striking him on the head with a blackthorn stick, and thereby placing his life in danger :— Pimples on face, dark eyes, long thin nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight active make, 5 feet 7i inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair, wore a dark moustache and no whiskers; wore a dark frieze coat, brown tweed trowsers, and vest; is a fanner. DESCRIPTION of Mary FitzGibbon ( name supposed fictitious), native place unknown, supposed Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 17th De- cember, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of St. Patrick's, stolen a suit of clothes, the property of Thomas Gough, of Rhebogue, which was subsequently found in a pawn office in city of Limerick:— Dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 28 or 30 years of ago, black hair; wore a gray shawl, elastic boots, and black dress. DESCRIPTION of Margaret Sweeney, native of the county Donegal, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of November, 1885, in the barony of Tirkeiran, parish of, Clondermott, abandoned her child, about seven days old, in Bond's Field, town- land of clooney, and thereby endangered its life :— Freckled face, 5 feet high, about 19 years of age, fair hair ; wore a black dress with white frills around the wrists, and a dark shawl, she wears nothing on her head ^ is a labouring woman, A warrant has been issued for her arrest. DESCRIPTION of Michael Caulfield ( mother's sur- name Loftus), native of Aughtaboy, who stands charged with having, on the 17th December, 1885, in the barony of Costello, parish of Knock, committed a serious assault on John Egan, of Eden, by striking him on the head with a stone, at Aughtaboy :— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray corduroy sack coat, gray cord trowsers, and a Scotch cap ; or a low round hat, frieze coat, sack made, and brown corduroy trowsers. DESCRIPTION of Margaret Burns, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of November, 1885, at Sligo, in the barony of Carbury, parish of St. John's, failed to appear to prosecute on information made by her as to an assault committed on her by one Thomas Kearns at Sligo, on 22nd June, 1885. She is believed to be purposely keepiDg out of the way to avoid giving evidence in the case. Her husband is an itinerant musician and she probably accompanies him :— Gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, slight make, 4 feet 3 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a lindsey dress, old gray shawl, old laced boots. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place un- known, but calls himself Campbell, who stands charged with having, on the morning of the 17th December, 1885, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Dorrha, stolen a sheep, the property of Mr. Thomas Slattery, and sold it to a butcher in Nenagh, and immediately left in the direction of Limerick:— Dark eyes, flat nose dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 45 to 48 years of age, black hair; wore a dark green coat, trowsers, and vest ( tweed), carried on his arm a twilled waterproof overcoat, wore an imitation gold watch chain; speaks with a Scotch accent, and looks like a steward. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having on the night of the 11th December, 1885, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Kilmore, been two Moonlighters, armed with revolvers, who entered the house of Denis Manning, of Ballincur, and forcibly took therefrom a double- barrelled gun; one of the Moonlighters presented a revolver at Manning, and the other man fired a shot from revolver out of the door:— 1. Tuft of beard on chin, black moustache, cut short, coarse face as if in the habit o shaving, dark complexion, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years o age, dark hair, woro a soft hat, faded, especially the band, dark frieze coat, dark trowsers, hat drawn over the face. 2. No beard on face, fair complexion, soft face, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 21 years of age.
