By a man about 83 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches, well built, square shoulders, sallow com- plexion, dark hair, light brown moustache, dressed in dark brown overcoat, dark billycock hat, very low crown and broad brim, wears a pair of brown kid gloves, and carries a small bright leather bag. Police officers are requested to make particular enquiries at pawnbrokers, jewellers, silversmiths, and others for the above described property; and should any trace of it or the thieves be obtained to communicate without delay to CHAS. AWAITING trial at the next Sessions, on a charge - of shopbreaking, and stealing a large quantity of clothing ( all recovered), a man giving the name of William Armstrong, who states that he is an engine- fitter and native of Berwick- on- Tweed, but refuses [ any further account of himself. He is 37 years 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair, reddish aoustache, blue eyes, fair complexion, high ' ones, part bracelet and thistle ( indistinct) to g^ of agd brown> oheek- is strongly suspected of being a native of Glasgow, and convicted in Ireland ; and is an expert thief, and well acquainted with prison discipline. BETWEEN 10 and 11 o'clock in the forenoon of the 21st inst., Robert Henry Selby absconded from the Manchester and Liverpool District Bank, where he was a clerk, in this borough. It has since been discovered that he has stolen several sums of money from the said Bank. He is of the following descrip- tion, viz.:— 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionately built, dark eyes, black hair, cut short, small black moustache, clean shaven, with the exception of about an inch on the upper side of face, which is round. Dressed in fine blue black over- coat, dark cloth coat, brownish plaid trowsers, and dark billycock hat. He is of gentlemanly appear- ance, and for several years has acted as the Captain of the Oldham Football Team. it is supposed lie will seek Opportunity to leave the country for Buenos Ayres. He has an uncle a clergyman in Ireland. If discovered, arrest and communicate with the Chief Constable, Oldham, who will send for him. Warrant issued. Town Hall, Oldham, December 22, 1885. A pair of trowsers and ajpair of boots, recovered, were pledged in a pawn office in Young- street, off Gallowgate, Glasgow, about 8.30 A. M , on 31st December, 1885, by a woman who gave the name and address Mary smith; 80, Annfield- street, Glasgow," and is described by the pawnbroker, who will be able to identify her, as follows:— 30 to 35 years of age, dark hair, pale face, medium height and build, and wore a gray shawl over her head. WANTED at County Constabulary Office, Hamil- ton, N. B., on a charge of assault to the fracture of bones, committed in the workings of a coal- pit, near Motherwell, in this county, on the 22nd instant, Sheriff's Warrant granted >— James Smith, a miner, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches or 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, cut short, little whiskers, if any, heavy dark moustache, which may be shaved off, spoke with Irish accent; dressed in a brownish tweed jacket or coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest, dark cloth cap, with peak of same cloth. He is married, with five of a family, all girls, his wife and'family are residing at Rottentree, near Craigneuk, where the three eldest are attending the Roman Catholic School. It is said that previous to this he was in America or thereby, and during that time his wife and family resided in Blantyre. Also for having, on the 23rd instant, stolen from Clydeford House, Cambuslang, in this county, where she was then serving, the following articles, not recovered:— A lady's brown ducked tweed dress, plaited body and kilted skirt; a lady's cardinal tweed dolman cloak, bow of ribbons on back, trimmed with feather trimming on neck, sleeves, and pockets, left pocket sewed up, buttons to match; a lady's green felt hat, postman shape, trimmed with green silk velvet and green wing; a lady's skirt, navy blue and yellow stripe, alternately, with gray head- band and button; a lady's petticoat, navy blue and cardinal stripe, alternately ; a black quilted stays; a white cotton chemise; a pair of lady's drawers, gray flannel, bound with red round legs; a lady's black morocco hand- bag, large size; a pair of Scotch blankets, having three blue stripes round border and edged with red worsted:— Agnes Tait or M'Naught, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches or 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair, gray in front, round full face, gray eyes, stout build, cut mark on chin and upper lip, burn mark on back of right hand; supposed dressed in the stolen clothing as she left her own. Accused is married, but appears to be living apart from her husband, she is said to have wrought in a confectionery work in Cannongate, Edinburgh, and also in Glasgow ; her husband's name is James M'Naught, who is a tin- smith to trade. PARTICULARS relative to English convict Margaret Ryan, convicted at Bristol, 6th January, 1882, for felony, after previous conviction of felony, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 years' police supervision ; 45 years of age on conviction, married, a charwoman, prison trade— tailoress, born in Ireland, reside before conviction at Bristol:— Gray hair, " blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, propor- tionate make, 5 feet high; scar left side of neck, mole upper part of left arm. This woman reported to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary at Waterford, the 16th November, 1885, her intention of going to Carrick- on- Suir, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In tho event of her farrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 84 and 85 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 88, 1885. ( 31390 M 59422.) PARTICULARS relative to convict William M'Manus, convicted at Armagh, county Armagh, at the Winter Assizes, on the 8th December, 1881, for Larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 51 years of age on conviction, single, is a dealer, born at Londonderry, where he resided before conviction :— Gray hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, large. nose, medium moutb, dark complexion, oval visage, average mako, 5 feet 6 inches high, left leg has been ulcerated. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison 8n Licence, 16th November, 1885, and went to Cork, which place he left on the 22nd ult., without reporting same to Police, and it is stated he went to Fermoy. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM ReDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. DHSCRIPTION of William M'Mullan, native of Cul- nafay, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of December, 1885, in the barony of Upper Toome, parish of Ballyscullion, seriously assaulted John Mulholland and Roger M'Clenaghan, by stabbing them with a penknife, and thereby endangered the life of the former:— Leans forward when walking; gray eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, long thin face, slight make, 6 feet high, about 20 years of age, dark hair ; wore a routid hard hat, black coat, gray trowsers; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a bullock, the property of Mr. James Byrne, which was stolen from the lands of Mortarstown, parish of Carlow, barony of Carlow, on the morning of the 6th January, 1886 :— A gray years old bullock, fine horns turned out and weakish white, a little swelled on inside of one hind leg, where he got tangled in a wire fence, thin con- dition, one of hind feet a little sore, and there is a swelling about the hough of one hind leg; value for £ 11. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 8rd day ' of January, 1886, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, broken into the dwelling house of Margaret Loftus, at Market- street, Ennis, at about the hour of 3 o'clock, A. M., and by threats compelled her to give them £ 35 10j., and who also took from her shop four bottles of brandy. Money consisted of two ten pound notes, two five pound notes, five singles,, and a half- sovereign. Number of notes and Bank unknown:— 1. Hooked nose, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- peaked tweed cap, long- gray frieze coat, brown trowsers; spoke with a rough accent. 2. Long thin nose, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a blue cloth cap with peak, ear flaps tied on top, pea jacket, blue coat, gray trowsers ; spoke with an English accent Ennis, January 4, 1886. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Sheridan, alias Hogan, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 30th November, 1885, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Bridgetown, entered the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Clancy, and forcibly robbed a servant named Norah Lawlor of four shillings:— Pale complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 45 years of age ; wore an old dark gray shawl on head, and an old- fashioned cloak with hood, was barefooted and accompanied by her children a boy and three girls ; is a tinker's wife. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Quinn, native of Fanan, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th November, 1885, at Ballydrideen, in tie barony of Orrery and Kilmore, parish of Aglish gh and Ballycokery, been one of a party of meD^ wfo called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money:— Down looking appearance, gray or blue eyes, straight nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of age, daik brown hair, black moustache, shaves all his face; wore a low black felt hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th day of January, 1886, in the barony of Kinalarty, parish of Magheradrole, stolen two sheep:— Hooked nose with lump on top, holds hand over mouth when laughing, three Tront teethjlow, long eye teeth, small dark side whiskers, shaved chin, brown eyes, hooked nose, fresh complexion, red face, medium make, 5 feet 6 " or 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a gray cap, peak behind and before, brown waterproof coat, brown tweed trowsers, and vest. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, 1886, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, threatened one" Thomas Madden, at Drumackin, if he did not give up his herding:— Smooth face, medium make, .6 feet 2 inches high, about 27 years of age; wore a long waterproof coat, reaching nearly to the ground. DESCRIPTION of John Mulkerrin, native of Letter- deskert, and Patt Madden, native of Mweenish Island, who stand charged with having, on the 26th November, 1885, in the barony of Ballinahinch, parish of Moyrus, assaulted Michael MDonough, causing his life to be in danger :— 1-, Smart active appearance, moustache lately clipped short, full red beard, regular nose, fair com- plexion, thin freckled face, medium make, 5 feet 10£ inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair i wore a hard round hat, brown coat ( much worn); is a farmer's son. 2. Good looking, slight downey beard and mous- tache, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; dressed in Connemara frieze, which is gray; is a farmer's son and fisherman. DESCRIPTION of a gun and revolver, the property of Jeremiah Murphy, of Knockacurrane, which were stolen from his house at Knockacurrane, parish of Stradbally, and barony of Corkaguiny, on 19th De- cember, 1885, viz.:— A double- barrelled muzzle- loading fowling- piece, very much worn, brazed on top between stock and barrell, near the hammers; and value for £ 1 10A A six- chambered revolver with buck- horn handle, nicely browned, in good order, had some name cut on the part over the chamber, but name unknown; and was value for £ 1 5s. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Sullivan, native of Firies, who stands charged with others of having, on the night of the 13th November, 1885, in tho barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin:— Blue or gray eyes, regular nos^ fresh com- plexion, thin face, slight active make, § feet high, about 20 or 21 years of age, dark brown hdf; wore a soft hat. ( 71488 o.- » * 3399.) m T — THE POLICE GAZETTE, OE HUE- AND- CRY, JANUARY 12, 1886 Kildare, DESCRIPTION of a person, name supposed to be Patrick neill, native of Kilkenny, who stands charged with on the 16th December, 1885, at Naas, in the^ Eony- of North- Naas, parish of Naas, carried away from the house of Thomas Dunne, where he lodged, a dark plaid trowsers, leather casing for back of heels, blacfc frieze patch on seat, well worn; a brown dress coat, nearly new, corded with a little red mixture, pocket behind, gray savage behind at split, wanting a button at each side of breast; a new hard felt black hat, low crown, Dame street, Dublin, marked on label, inside; a strong oak stick, turned- top brass ferrule, with holes in it, made out of a cock:— Small brown eyes, regular nose, fresh com- piexion,. shaven face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, aboMt 56 years of age, black hair.; wore the above described clothes, and carries the stick; is a navvy. DESOBIPTION of a woman ( who stated her name was Connor), supposed native of county Kerry, who stands charged, on suspicion, with having, on the 31st December, 1885, in the barony of Pubblebrien, parish of St. Michael's, caused the death of her infant female child:— Good looking, slight blush, speaks with a Kerry accent, clear complexion, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a brown shawl, with white spots, and white and red stripes on the other side, red scarlet dress ( worn), with velvet at bottom, blue body, wifh yellow buttons, having tight sleeves, with lace on cuffs, and elastic boots. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Butler, native of Kyle, who stands charged with having, on the 14th December, IOOO, in barony of Owneybeg, parish of Tuogh, assaulted Richard Mackey, of Shanballyedmond, by Striking him on the head with a blackthorn stick, and thereby placing his life in danger:— Pimples on face, dark eyes, long thin nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight active make, 5 feet 7i inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair, wore a dark moustache and no whiskers; wore a dark frieze coat, browntweedtrowsers, and vest; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Mary FitzGibbon ( name supposed fictitious), native place unknown, supposed Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 17th De- cember, 1885, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of St. Patrick's, stolen a suit of clothes, the property of Thomas Gough, of Rhebogue, which was subsequently found in a pawn office in city of Limerick:— Dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 28 or 30 years of age, black hair; wore a gray shawl, elastic boots, and black dress. DESCRIPTION of Margaret Sweeney, native of the county Donegal, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of November, 1885, in the barony of Tirkeiran, parish of Clondermott, abandoned her child, about seven days old, in Bond's Field, town- land of Clooney, and theroby endangered its life :— Freckled face, 5 feet high, about 19 years of age, fair hair ; wore a black dress with white frills around the wrists, and a dark shawl, she wears nothipg on her head; is a labouring woman. Costello, parish of Knock, committed a serious assault on John Egan, of Eden, by striking him on the head with a stone, at Aughtaboy :— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round full face, stout make. 6 feet 4 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray corduroy sack coat, gray cord trowsers, and a Scotch cap ; or a low round hat, frieze coat, sack made, and brown corduroy trowsers. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place un- known, but calls himself Campbell, who stands charged with having, on the morning of the 17 th December, 1885, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Dorrha, stolen a sheep, the property of Mr. Thomas Slattery, and sold it to a butcher in Nenagh, and immediately left in the direction of Limerick:— Dark eyes, flat nose dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 45 to 48 years of age, black hair; wore a dark green coat, trowsors, and vest ( tweed), carried on his arm a twilled waterproof overcoat, wore an imitation gold watch chain; speaks with a Scotch accent, and looks like a steward. DESOBIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having on the night of the 11th December, 1885, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Kilmore, been two Moonlighters, armed with revolvers, who entered the house of Denis Manning, of Ballincur, and forcibly took therefrom a double- barrelled gun; one of the Moonlighters presented a revolver at Manning, and the other man fired a shot from revolver out of the door:— 1. Tuft of beard on chin, black moustache* cut short, coarse face as if in the habit o shaving, dark complexion, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair, wore a soft hat, faded, especially the band, dark frieze coat, dark trowsers, hat drawn ovei the fice. 2. No beard on face, fair complexion, soit face, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 21 years of age*. DESCRIPTION of a watch, and of first halves of six £ 1 notes, stolen on night of 21st December, 1885, out of the waiting- room at Wicklow Railway Station, by cutting a hole in the Dublin Mail Bag, and re- moving from it the " Registered Letter Bag," which contained the articles referred to;— Silver Geneva watch, No. 750, maker's name, " Motter," 20 years old, large size, no chain, packed in square wooden box, with letter of directions, and an outside white ruled paper wrapper addressed to " Waterhouse and Co., Dame- street, Dublin," and sealed with a red seal, and stamped with letters I. C., under a crest of open hand with heart in palm. Description of the Notes.
