No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary te forward the Informations to the T aspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give tlie number it bears, as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fcc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1885. EXGLI8H POLICE. £ 5 REWARD. OBTAINED by false pretences at a jeweller's shop in Windsor, on 23rd December, 1885:— A gold cut hunter keyless Geneva watch, No. 67095 on dome; « dso two gold curb pattern Albert chains, cne 15 the other 9 carat, stamped on every link ; value £ 21, by a man about 5 feet 5 inches high, and 35 years of age, medium build, small brown eyes, rather weak sight, brown or fair beard and moustache, short and thin; coat and trowsers dark mixture, very thin shoes ( looked liked dirty patent leather), German accent, spoke very good English slowly. Please cause enquiries at pawn and other shops. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by W. S. CANTRELL, Esq., j. r., Windsor, to any one giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender, and recovery of the property. INFORMATION wanted as to the present whereabouts of licence holder, James Millia, Reg. No. A 361, a native of Enniscorthy :— 27yearsof age, 5 feet8inches high dark brown hair, hazel eyes, sallow complexion, black spot on right arm. Convicted at Dublin Assizes. Ist December, 1* 81, of stealing post letters whilst in the service of H. M. Post Office, and sentenced to 5 jears penal servitude; released from H. M. Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 23rd ult. on licence ; came to Liverpool on the 5th inst., and is supposed to have emigrated, but cannot be traced as having sailed. Information to the Chief Superintendent. Detective Department, Liverpool, 22nd December, 1885. ( 31328 ic— 59101.) SCOTCH POLICE. " WANTED at County Constabulary Office, Hamil- ton, N. B., on a charge of assault to the fracture of bone.*, committed in tho workings of a coal- pit, near Motherwell, in this county, on tlie 22nd instant, Sheriff's Warrant granted:— James Smith, a miner, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches or 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, cut short, little whiskers, if any, heavy dark moustache, which may be shaved off, spoke with Irish accent; dressed in a brownish tweed jacket or coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest, dark cloth cap, with peak of same cloth. He is married, with five of a family, all girls, his wife and family are residing at Rottentree, near Craigncuk, where the three eldest are attending the Roman Catholic School. It is said that previous to this he was in America or thereby, and during that time his wife and family resided in Blantyre. Also for having, on the 23rd instant, stolen from Clydeford House, Cambuslang, in this county, where she was then serving, the following articles, not recovered:— A lady's brown ducked tweed dress, Slaitcd body and kilted skirt; a lady's cardinal tweed olman cloak, bow of ribbons on back, trimmed with feather trimming on neck, sleeves, and pockets, left pocket % wed up, buttons to match; a lady's green felt bat, posyfian shape, trimmed with green silk velvet and greet * ing; a lady's skirt, navy blue and yellow stripe, alternately, with gray head- baud and button; a lady's petticoat, navy blue and cardinal stripe, alternately; m black quilted stays; a white cotton chemise; a pair of lady'* drawers, gray flannel, bound with red round legs; a lady's black morocco hand- bag, large sue; a pair of Scotch blankets, having three blue stripes round border and edged with red worsted:— Agnes Tait or M'Naught, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches or 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair, gray in front, round full face, gray eyes, stout build, cut mark on chin and upper lip, burn mark on back of right hand; supposed dressed in the stolen clothing as she left her own. Accused is married, but appears to be living apart from her husband, she is said to have wrought in a confectionery work in Cannongate, Edinburgh, and also in Glasgow ; her husband's name is James M'Naught, who is a tin- smith to trade. Robert Neil alias William Lindsay, has been arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd December, 1885. WELSH POLICE. Carl Lemong alias Charles Hotzel ( housebreaking and robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 2nd October, 1885. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. g Division, PARTICULARS relative to English convict Margaret Ryan, convicted at Bristol, 6th January, 1H82, for felony, after previous conviction of felony, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 years' police supervision ; 45 years of age on conviction, married, a charwoman, prison trade— tail. tress, born in Ireland, resided before conviction at Bristol:— Gray hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, propor- tionate make, 5 leet high ; scar left side of neck, mole upper part of left arm. This woman reported to the Royal Irish Con- stabulary at Waterford, the 16th November, 1885, her intention of going to Carrick- on- Suir, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with uniier the 5th section of the Act 34 and 36 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 28, 1885. ( 31390 M.— 59422.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict Denis Dwyer, who is missing from Lusk Prison, and who was last seen at Lusk about half- past 6 o'clock, on the evening of the 17th December, 1885, convicted at Tralee, county Kerr}', at Spring Assizes, on 16th March, 1HH2, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude, 19 years of age on conviction,' is a Roman Catholic, single, a labourer, his friends reside at Gurthbrack, county Kerry :— Fair hair, blue eyes, dark brown eyebrows, regular nose, small mouth, frebh complexion, round visage, light make, 5 feet 7^ inches high. ffottc*.— A reward of Irom £ 3 to £ 5 may be paid U any persoo who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected hit escape from a Government Prison. Application to be made to the Governor of the Prison. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by any ipjans whatever aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be guilty of felony, and being convicted thereof, shall be kept in penal servi- tude for any term not less than 6 nor more than 8 years. PARTICULARS relative to convict William M'Manus, convicted at Armagh, county Armagh, at the Winter Assises, on the 8th December, 1881, for Larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 51 years of age on conviction, single, is a dealer, born at Londonderry, where he resided before conviction i— Gray hair, brown eyes, brow* eyebrows, large nose, medium mouth, dark complexion, oval visage, average make, 5 feet 6 inches high, left leg has been ulcerated. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on Licence, 16th November, 1885, and went to Cork, which place he left on the 2<! nd ult, without reporting same to Police, and it is stated he went to Fermoy. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th sec. of the Act 34 and 35 Tic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 10, 1885. ( 31669 M.— 59307.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict James Hearty, A378, convicted at Armagh, at the Winter A- sizes, on 5th December, 1881. for cattle stealing, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude :— 23 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born at Crossmaglen, county Armagh, resided before con- viction at Crossmaglen, county Armagh, where his friends reside ; black hair, blue eyes, black eyebrows, large nose, regular mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high. Th; s man was released from Mountjoy Prison on licence, 19th November, 1885, and went to Dublin. He reported himself on same date to the Metropolitan Police, and then said he had no fixed residence, but that he would call back the next morning and give his address. He has not done so up to the present and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Ac\ 34 4 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 8, 18S5. ( 31644 u.— 59234.) PARTICULARS relative to convict James Slattery, convicted at Cork, in the county of the city of Cork, at the Munster Winter Assizes, 8th December, 1881, for wounding, and sentenced to5 years penal servitude:— 34 years of age on conviction ; single, is a farmer, born in Clare, where he resided before conviction, his friends reside in New York; brown hair, turning gray, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, has lost three front upper teeth, slightly pockmarked. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison, on Licence, 17th November, 1885, and went to Clare, which place he left on the 20th ult., without notifying same to Police, and went by rail to Limerick. His present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Bth See. ef the Act 34 and 35 Tie., eap. 112. General Prisons Board, December 8, llW. ( 81041 x.— 19281.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, DECEMBER 29, 1885. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Samuel Robinson, 10,888, convicted at Dundalk, county Louth, at the Spring Assizes, on the 5th March, 1878, for larceny of sheep, after previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude :— 45 years of age, is married, is a shoemaker, born at Larne, county Antrim, resided before conviction at Togher, county Louth ; his friends reside in France ; brown hair, turning gray, hazel eyes, brown eyebrows, large hooked nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 6| inches high; cut mark on left hand, lost one lower and three upper front teeth. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on licence, the 4th inst., and went to reside at 4, Ryder's- row, Dublin, which place he left on or about the 10th inst., without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, November 26, 1885. ( 31609 M.— 59118.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Reidy, A305, eonvicted in Limerick City, at Summer Assizes, on 8th July, 1881, for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— ; 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer; resided before conviction in Limerick, where his friends reside; brown hair, brown eyes, black eye- > brows, regular nose, small mouth, sallow com- J plexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high; Indian head tattooed on right forearm, and J. R. on left; star, shamrock, woman's head, cross, and ring, on left hand. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, 16th September, 1885, and went to reside at Limerick. He has failed to report himself since 18th Sept- ember, 1885, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, Dublin Castle, November 12,1885. ( 31541 M.— 58961.) DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis 104. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDy, Defective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDy, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G Division, September 3, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He i « about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDy, Detectivo Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant f6r his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. DESCRIPTION of James Graham, native of Temple- patrick, who stands charged with having, on the 17th December, 1885, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Racavan, embezzled the sum. ofi £ 36 8s. the property, of hjs employers, Messrs. Lester Brothers ir& f walks stiffly, one shoulder higher than the other, coarse voice, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 36 years of age, dark hair, no whiskers, dark moustache ; wore a dark cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; was formerly at sea, and served in a dragoon regiment; is a carter. Richard Mayes, native of Lisburn ( charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1885, committed a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th September, 1885. Young offender, Andrew G. Armstrong, not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 29th September, 1885. Joseph Clarke ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th July, 1886. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of a woman, name unknown, sup- posed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, in tbe barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide:— A wart on upper part of right eye- lid, gray eyes, regular nose, ruddy complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 26 or 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a black straw hat, with bunch of imitation grapes or berries on it, dark dress, black and white striped petticoat, faded red and black shawl; is sup- posed to be a servant. Was accompanied by a little boy, one- and- a- half years old, who was dressed in blue serge trimmed with gold lace, and a row of buttons down front of it, boy dark and good- looking, and mother stated his name was James M Cauley. DESCRIPTION of John Gettings, native of Dominga, near Goresbridge, county Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on or about the 18th December, 1885, in the barony of Idrone West, parish of Wells, stolen a sheep, the property of John White, of Fenniscourt, near Bagenalstown :— Dark, brown eyes, cocked nose, dark compbxion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a horse's harness, the property of Colonel Macadam, which were stolen from his harness- room at Blackwater, parish of Parteen, barony of Bupratty, Lower, on the night of the 30th November, 1885:— One collar and hames, one straddle and one breeching; there was a brass plate on each side of the collar, two in front and two behind the bridge of the straddle • tbe breeching was fastened to the straddle by a strap and buckle. The collar was marked on the left side " O'Donnell, Limerick,'-' and the top- str- ip was torn off. Sixmilebridge, Dec. 14, 1885. ( 71991 c.— 24054). Cork. ( 72165 o.— 24296 ) ^ of Orrery and Kilmore, parish of Aglishclrin^^& id' Ballycokery, been one of a party of men, who called at the houses of several persons and demanded arms and money:— Down looking appearance, gray or blue eyes, straight nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair, black moustache, shaves all his face ; wore a low black felt hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. James Cassidy ( assault endangering life), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd October, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of John Wood, native of Scarboro', and Robert Robinson, native of Leeds, who stand charged with having, on the 16th December, 1885, in the barony of Galway, parish of St. Nicholas, stolen about £ 8 in gold and silver, two suits of black cloth clothes, and a pair of elastic side boots, the property of Lieutenant H. O'Donnell, of the West York Regiment :— 1. Various tattoo devices on both forearms, and hands, has an anchor and the letters J. E on out- side of left forearm, and a flag, anchor, key, and the letters " J. E." on thp inside, gray eyes, fresh com- plexion, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, light brown hair; is a private soldier of the West York Regiment. 2. Cross flags tattooed on right forearm, blue eyes, dark complexion, 5 feet 5j inches high, abo it 19 years of age. brown hair; is a private soldier of the West York Regiment. DESCRIPTION of John Mulkerrin, native of Letter- deskert, and Patt Madden, native of Mweenish Island, who stand charged with having, on the 26th November, 1886, in the barony of Ballinahinch, parish of Moyrus, assaulted Michael M'Donough, causing his life to be in danger:— 1. Smart active appearance, moustache lately clipped short, full red beard, regular nose, fair com- plexion, thin freckled face, m^ jium make, 5 feet; 10^. inches high, about 80 years of age, brown hair ; wore a hard round hat, brown coat ( much worn); is a farmer's son. 2. Good looking, Alight downey beard and mous- tache, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about- 22 years of age, fair hair ; dressed in Connemara frieze, which is gray; is a farmer's son and fisherman. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Sheridan, alias Hogan, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 80th November, 1885, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Bridgetown, entered the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Clancy, and forcibly robbed a servant named Norah Lawlor of four shillings:— Pale complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 46 years of age ; wore an old dark gray sh* wl on head, and an old- fashioned cloak with hood, was barefooted and accompanied by her children a boy and three girls ; is a tinker's wife. Kerry, DESCRIPTION of a gun and revolver, the property of Jeremiah Murphy, of Knockacurrane, which were . stolen from his house at Knockacurrane, parish of j Stradbally, and barony of Corkaguiny, on 19th De- cember, 1885, viz.:— A double- barrelled muzzle- loading fowling- piece, very much worn, brazed on top between stock and barrell, near the hammers; and value for £ 1 10i. A six- chambered revolver with buck- horn handle, ! nicely browned, in good order, had some name cut on the part over the chamber, but name unknown; and was value for £ 1 5s. Kildare DESCRIPTION of a person, name supposed to be Patrick Neill, native of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 16th December, 1885, at Naas, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Naas, carried away from the house of Thomas Dunne, where he lodged, a dark plaid trowsers, leather casing for back of heels, black frieze patch on seat, well worn ; a brown dress coat, nearly new, corded with a little red mixture, pocket behind, gray salvage behind at split, wanting a button at each side of breast; a new hard felt black hat, low crown, Dame- strcet, Dublin, marked on label, inside ; a strong oak stick, turned- top brass ferrule, with holes in it, made out of a cock:— Small brown eyes, regular nose, lresh com- plexion, shaven face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair ; wore the above described clothes, and carries the stick; is a navvy. This man had two sheep in his possession supposed to have been stolen. Warrant for arrest, in the hands of the District Inspector at Naas. Naas, December 19, 1885. ( 72054 c.— 24141.) DESCRIPTION of Michael Caulfield ( mother's sur- name Loftus), native of Aughtaboy, who stands charged with having, on the 17th December, 1885, in the barony of Costello, parish of Knock, committed a serious assault on John Egan, of Eden, by striking him on the head with a stone, at Aughtaboy :— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray corduroy sack coat, gray cord trowsers, and a Scotch cap ; or a low round hat, frieze coat, sack made, and brown corduroy trowsers. Nine- months- old heifer, dark red colour, with remarkable white face. 2. Nine- months- old heifer, pure white colour, smallest of lot. 3. Nine- months- old heifer, mostly red, with mixed hairs of red and white evenly running over body. 4. Nine- months- old heifer, white and red- mostly white or grey— with red hairs running through the white. 5 and 6. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having on the night of the 11th December, 1885, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Kilmore, been two Moonlighters, armed with revolvers, who entered the house of Denis Manning, of Ballincur, and forcibly took therefrom a double- barrelled gun; one of the Moonlighters presented a revolver at Manning, and the other man fired a shot from revolver out of the door:— 1. Tuft of beard on chin, black moustache, cut short, coarse face as if in the habit o shaving, dark complexion, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair, wore a soft hat, faded, especially the band, dark frieze coat, dark trowsers, hat drawn over the face. 2. No beard on face, fair complexion, soft face, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 21 years of age. DESCRIPTION of a pony, the property of Thomas Marsh, which was stolen off the public road between Enniscorthy and Scoby, parish of Templescoby, barony of Bantry, on the 1st day of December, 1* 85 ;— A brown gelding pony, about ten or twelve hands high, eleven years old, wants a front tooth in upper jaw, has a small gray spot on point of right shoulder, a straddle mark, lama in fore feet, shell of hooves raised from being blistered ; value for £ 3. This pony is fond of hearing music, and would run to where a drum was beating. It can open a door by taking the latch in its mouth.
