The articles of jewellery stolen on the afternoon or night of the 5th, or morning of the 6th September, from the sale- room occupied by Mr. Walter Semple, Jeweller, St. Enoch's- lane, 145, Argyle- street, in this city, have not been recovered, see Hue- and- Cry of 11th September, 1885. PARTICULARS relative to convict William M'Manus, convicted at Armagh, county Armagh, at the Winter Assizes, on the 8th December, 1881, for Larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude; 51 years of age on conviction, single, is a dealer, born at Londonderry, where he resided before conviction :— Gray hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, large nose, medium mouth, dark complexion, oval visage, average make, 5 feet 6 inches high, left leg has been ulcerated. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on jjj^ icence, 16th November, 1885, and went to Cork, place he left on the 22nd ulL, without reporting same to Police, and it is stated he went to Fermoy. PARTICULARS relative to convict catherine M'Donagh, B. 87, convicted at Castlebar, county Mayo, at Quarter Sessions, on 28th June, 1882, for Larceny, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude ; 61 years of age on conviction, married, born at Ballinasloe, resided before conviction at Castlebar, his friends reside at Swinford:— Sandy hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, thick long nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet | inch high, - f- on both hands, cut on left temple and cut mark under both eyes. This woman was released on licence from Grange- gorman Prison, 31st October, 1885, and went to Foxford, which place she left on the 6th ultimo, and stated she was going to Headford, but she has not reported herself at the latter place and her present whereabouts is unknown. PARTICULARS relative to Convict James Hearty, A373, convicted at Armagh, at the Winter Assizes, on 5th December, 1881, for cattle stealing, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude:— 23 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born at Crossmaglen, county Armagh, resided before con- viction at Crossmaglen, county Armagh, where his friends reside ; black hair, blue eyes, black eyebrows, large nose, regular mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on licence, 19th November, 1885, and went to Dublin. He reported himself on same date to the Metropolitan Police, and then said he had no fixed residence, but that he would call back the next morning and give his address. He has not done so up to the present and his whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. PARTICULARS relative to convict James Slattery, convicted at Cork, in the county of the city of Cork, at the Munster Winter Assizes, 8th December, 1881, for wounding, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude:— 34 years of age on conviction ; single, is a farmer, born in Clare, where he resided before conviction, his friends reside in New York;- brown hair, turning gray, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, has lost three front upper teeth, slightly pockmarked. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison, on Licence, 17th November, 1885, and went to Clare, which place he left on the 20th ult., without notifying same to Police, and went by rail to Limerick. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Samuel Robinson, 10,888, convicted at Dundalk, county Louth, at the Spring Assizes, on the 5th March, 1878, for larceny of sheep, after previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude:— 45 years of age, is married, is a shoemaker, born at Larne, county Antrim, resided before conviction at Togher, county Louth; his friends reside in France; brown hair, turning gray, hazel eyes, brown eyebrows, large hooked nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 6| inches high; cut mark on left hand, lost one lower and three upper front teeth. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on licence, the 4th inst., and went to reside at 4, Ryder's- row, Dublin, which place he left on or about the 10th inst., without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. R. on left; star, shamrock, woman's head, cross, and ring, on left hand. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, I6th September, 1885, and went to reside at Limerick. He has failed to report himself since 18th Sept- ember, 1885, and his present whereabouts is unknown. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style 3 THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, DECEMBER 15, 1885. Kildare, DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with haviDg, on the 16th day of October, 1885, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Naas, broken and entered the dwelling house of John Howe, and carried away therefrom one pair of button and one pair of elastic gentleman's boots ( nearly new), a cotton sheet, and a German Flute :— 1. Fair complexion, round face, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 16 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, and dark trowsers; barefooted ; is a tramp. 2. Fair hair ; wore a short blue coat. They have been traced in the direction of Dublin. Naas, October 18, 1885. ( 70933 c.— 22634.) generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. DESCRIPTION of a woman, name unknown, sup- posed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide:— A wart on upper part of right eye- lid, gray eyes, regular nose, ruddy complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 26 or 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a black straw hat, with bunch of imitation grapes or berries on it, dark dress, black and white striped petticoat, faded red and black shawl; is sup- posed to bo a servant. Was accompanied by a little boy, one- and- a- half years old, who was dresssed in blue serge trimmed with gold lace, and a row of buttons down front of it, hoy dark and good- looking, and mother stated his name was James M'Cauley. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Sheridan, alias Hogan, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 80th November, 18H5, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Bridgetown, entered the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard clancy, and forcibly robbed a servant named Norah Lawlor of four shillings:— Pale complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 45 years of age; wore an old dark gray shawl on head, and an old- fashioned cloak with hood, was barefooted and accompanied by her children a boy and three girls ; is a tinker's wife. DESCRIPTION of Charles Manly, native of Ballina- barney, county Wicklow, who stands charged with having, between the months of March and July, 1884, in the barony of Nettercross, parish of Swords, stolen from the residence of John Hely Hutchenson, Esquire, J. P., by whom he was employed as a herd, two Indian carved ivory hair brushes, value £ 20; a French cashmere shawl, value £ 7; and some books. Some of the property has been recovered:— Lump on back of right shoulder, which is higher than the left, down- looking appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown' hair, thin dark moustache, no beard or whiskers ; wore a soft black hat, dark coat, tweed trowsers, and light tweed vest; belongs to Wicklow Militia ; is a herd and groom. DESCRIPTION of John Mulkerrin, native of Letter- deskert, and Patt Madden, native of Mweenish Island, who stand charged with having, on the 26th November, 1885, in the barony of Ballinahinch, parish of Moyrus, assaulted Michael M'Donough, causing his life to be in danger :— 1. Smart active appearance, moustache lately clipped short, full red beard, regular nose, fair com- plexion, thin freckled face, medium make, 5 feet 10i inches high, about 80 years of age, brown hair ; wore a hard round hat, brown coat ( much worn); j. s a farmer's son. 2. Good looking, slight downey beard and mous- tache, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; dressed in Connemara frieze, which is gray; is a farmer's son and fisherman. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Sullivan, native of Firies, who stands charged with others of having, on the night of tho 13th November, 1885, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Molahiffe, murdered John O'C. Curtin :— Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, thin face, slight active make, 6 feet high, about 20 or 21 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft hat. It is believed he has received gun- shot wounds on the face and legs. Killarney, Nov. 16, 1885. ( 71488 o.— 23399.) The four persons, names unknown, supposed natives of Keel or Lack, near Castlemaine, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 26th and morning of the 27th September, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parishes of Kilgobbin and Killiney. in company with other armed and disguised moonlighters, numbering about fourteen or fifteen, feloniously attacked the houses of seventeen farmers, and forcibly carried away therefrom various sums of money, a single barrelled muzzle- loading Enfield Rifle & c., and attempted to swear some of the farmers against paying rent, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 6th October, 1885. Five persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 29th September, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiney, parish of Killiney, been five of a party of armed and disguised moonlighters who entered the house of Jeremiah Scanlan, of Maghera- beg, and did forcibly take therefrom a single barrel gun with some powder and shot, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th October, 1885. A fowling piece, a briar root pipe, and a powder flask, the property of Daniel Griffin, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 6th October, 1885, have not been recovered. Tha two persons, names and native places un- known, charged with having assaulted Michael Corcoran, and described in the Hue- and- Cry of the I 9th of June last, have not been arrested. Five persons, names and native places un- known, who stand charged with having, on the Dight of the 18th April, 1886, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parish of Ballinorker, attacked the dwelling- houses of John Cruickshank, Inch, and Patrick Flanagan ( strayed from his employer), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 18th September, 1885. James Doherty ( serious assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th March, 1885. Anthony Byrne, believed fictitious ( cattle stealing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 24th February, 1885. Garret Stynes ( house attack and using threatening language), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 81st October, 1884. Kilkenny. DESCRIPTION of a man, name, and native place unknown ( but who calls himself John Kelly and says he is from Castlecomer), who stands charged with having, on the night of the 5th or morning of the 6th November, 1885, in the barony of Shillelagher, parish of Burnchurch, stolen a set of pony tackling, since recovered, out of Patrick Brophy's stable, of Ballymack Desert, and pawned them in Kilkenny. He is also supposed to have stolen tackling from Tullowbrien in same county:— Broad shoulders, has the appearance of a collier, dark complexion, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair and whiskers; wore a soft hat and blue sack co& t-. DESCRIPTION of Margaret Sweeney, native of the county Donegal, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of November, 1886, in the barony of Tirkeiran, parish of Clondermott, abandoned tar child, about seven days old, in Bond's Field, towW, land of Olooney, and thereby endangered its life :— Freckled face, 5 feet high, about 19 years of age, fair hair ; wore a black dress with white frills around th « wrists, and a dark shawl, she wears nothing on her head; is a labouring woman. DESCRIPTION of James Neenan, native of Cortoon, Tuara, county Galway, who stapds charged with having, on the 30th- October, 1885, in the barony of Costello, parish of Aghamore, with stealing 8 sheep and 8 lambs off tho lands of cooge Middle, county Mayo, tho property of Michael and Thomas Caulfield. Warrant in the hands of District- Inspector, Tuam :— Dark eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, oval face, medium make, 6 feet 9 inches high, about 38 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a hard felt hat, frieze brown coat, cord trowsers. DESCRIPTION of James Gavan, native of Phillips- town, King's County, who stands charged with having, on the Sid day of November, 1885, in the barony of Upper Navan, parish of Trim, committed bigamy :— Rather good- loolcing, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, medium mike, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a long black coat, old tweed trowsers, and vest; is an itinerant tinker, chiefly travels about the counties of Meath, Westmeath, and King's, works at his trade in towns he goes to. DESCRIPTION of Louis Keenan ( mother's surname Quigley), and Francis Brannigan ( mother's surname M'Ardle), natives of Castleblayney, who stand charged with having, on the 24th day of November, 1885, in the barony of Cremorne, parish of Muckno, escaped from the Police when allowed to go to their home for a change of clothing, from the Petty Sessions Court, where they had been convicted of assault on a man named M'Bride, and sentenced to a month each in Dundalk Gaol with hard labour:— 1. Slight stoppage in speech, speaks quick, and wants some of the front teeth, no hair on face, very slight fair moustache, wild gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; wore a hard round felt hut, light tweed coat, trowsers, and vebt, el'istic boots; a private gentleman. 2. DESOBIPTIOS of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having on the night of the Uth December, 1885, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Kilmore, been two Moonlighters, armed with revolvers, who entered the house of Denis Manning, of Ballincur, and forcibly took therefrom a double- barrelled gun; one of the Moonlighters presented a revolver at Manning, and the other man fired a shot from revolver out of the door :— 1. Tuft of beard on chin, black moustache, cut short, coarse face as if in the habit o shaving, dark complexion, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of i'ge, dark hair, wore a soft hat, faded, especially the ; and, dark frieze coat, dark trowsers, hat drawn over the face. 2. N." tattooed on left arm. Formerly belonged to Santry, county Dublin. His parents are dead. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and jacket, cloth ( Scotch make) cap, strong and nailed boots, No. 1,961. As the above jacket has been found near the pre- mises it is presumed the boy has got some other sort of jacket or coat.
