THE Police Gazette, OR HUE- AND- CRY. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can bo inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of - the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1885. ENGLISH POLICE. DESCRIPTION' of William Henry Bemrose Bratley, a Savings Bank Clerk, wanted in the borough of Boston, charged by Warrant issued on the 21st October, 1885, with stealing £ 100 on the 20th of July last:— 38 lyears of age, but looks somewhat younger, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, and weighs about la stone, fresh complexion, and good looking, dark hair and moustache, and a little whisker on sides of face if not shaved off, walks very erect, and is of smart appearance; generally dressed in dark clothes, and a blue overcoat with velvet collar, and hard black felt or silk hat. He is very'talkative and fond of Company, and will sometimes amuse his companions with recitations, such as the " Charge of the Light Brigade " & c. He left Boston about the end of August, and was seen in London on the 15 th instant He is likely to leave the country. STOLEN from a dwelling- house in this borough, within the last 12 months :— A massive old fashioned linked chain, yellow gold, engraved, a little less than a yard long, joined together without clasp; oval- shaped locket loose from the chain, about l| inches long, had a pearl on one side in the centre of a black and gold star, and on the other side in black and gold raised letters, " In Memory of." WANTED at Kendal ( failing to report) Police supervisee, Charles Webster alias Thompson, office No. 27235, 41 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes ; " Nil despcran- dum," the Star of Independance, on left arm; sentenced at Carlisle, 17th October, 1876, to 8 years penal servitude and 2 years Police supervision for housebreaking; liberated 16th December, 1882, W. Drancourt ( embezzle, ment), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th March, 1885. DUMBARTONSHIRE CONSTABULARY. WANTED at Dumbarton, under Sheriff's Warrant, charged with fraud, & c., committed at Helensburgh, between 21st and 28th October ult.:— David Hay, about 40 years of age, looks younger, supposed native of Stranraer, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches in height, swarthy complexion, dark hair, brown whiskers and moustache, cut short ( may be shaved off), thin face, scar on centre of chin, stooped in shoulders, slouching gait, and slow long step when walking. Dressed in a dark Melton overcoat, with velvet collar and cuffs, dark corded coat, vest and trowsers ; trowsers soiled and greasy on knees, heavy lacing boots, black felt hat, black necktie ( greasy) and paper collar. The accused represented himself to be a cattle dealer from the north of Ireland, and said he was anxious to buy cattle and horses, to forward to Ire land, to improve the breed there. He has been previously convicted for a similar offence in Wig- townshire in 1883. Police Officers are requested to make careful search and enquiry for this person, who will likely be found in hotels or private lodgings obtained under false pretences. If found, to apprehend and communicate by wire to the subscriber, who will send for him CHARLES A. M'HARDY, Chief Constable. County Police Office, Dumbarton, 4th November, 1885. ( 31523M— 58929.) PERTHSHIRE CONSTABULARY. WANTED at Perth, under a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with fraud, committed at railway stations in this county, during the past month ;— W. D. Gordon or Gorman ( supposed fictitious), about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches in height, brown hair and whiskers all round, and heavy moustache; has a marked peculiarity about his left eye, which is appa- rently blind; of gentlemanly appearance, and speaks with an English accent. Dress:— Brown checked tweed jacket, vest, and trowsers, light gray stalking cap, elastic- sided boots, or sometimes cricket shoes. Accused travels about the country representing himself to station agents and hotel- keepers that he is on his way to inspect an estate which he intends to purchase, and has just discovered that he left his purse behind him, by which means he obtains a small sum of money to purchase his railway ticket. The Police are requested to make special search and inquiry for this man, and to warn station agents and hotel- keepers as to same, and in the event of his being found, to apprehend, and detain, and wire to the subscriber, who will at once send an officer for him. About 18 gent.' s silver Alberts, various patterns, including curb, fetter, dog, and Prince of Wales patterns. 6 dozen solid silver keeper rings, " hall" marked, some plain, some buckle, and others engraved patterns, 6 dozen gent.' s 9 carat gold signet rings, different kinds of stones, some of them Masonic. 3 dozen ladies' gold stone rings of different kinds. About a dozen of small silver appendages, including drums, crosses, button- hooks, and boats. About 2 dozen gold plated appendages, same pattern as silver appendages. 2 dozen 9 carat gold keeper rings, engraved patterns. About 4s. in silver and copper money, and a small willow basket, square shape, black and white mixed, two leather straps for fastening, and leather handle on top; and 2 small nickel silver alarm clocks, round shape, nickel silver bell, and brass ring on top, white dial about 4 inches diameter, seconds hand on dial, two small brass feet, two brass keys, one for winding movement the other for winding alarm, and two small knob screws at back. Entrance was obtained to a sunk area behind the shop by means of overcoming a lock- fast gate and a lock- fast door, then to a cellar underneath the shop by racking the iron stanchions of the window thereof by means of a rope and a piece of iron, by pushing up the lower sash of the window, which had been left unsnibbed, and entering thereat, and by proceeding up a trap stair from the cellar into the shop. The jewellery is of an inexpensive kind, but may be pledged with pawnbrokers or sold to brokers or dealers in cheap jewellery, or may be disposed of by licensed pedlars or licensed auctioneers. The value of the best of the stolen watches will not exceed £ 2. It is requested that the Police use every effort with a view to the recovery of the stolen property and the capture of the thieves, and that any information bearing on the subject be immediately communicated to the subscriber. WANTED* at Selkirk, on Sheriffs Warrant, charged with having between the 19th August and 21st September, 1885, stolen or embezzled £ 350, the property of the Directors of the British Linen Company's Bank :— Frank Wood, lately Accountant in the Galashiels Branch of the British Linen Com- pany's Bank, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches in height, large gray eyes, large mouth, fresh complexion, ordinary make, long dark hair, no beard or whiskers, may have slight dark moustache, walks with a slouching gait, and generally has his hands in his trowsers pockots ; dressed in a rough light brown tweed suit, and carried a black leather travelling case. Accused left Galashiels on the afternoon of 21st September last, per fast train for Carlisle, and will likely endeavour to go abroad. Polico officers are requested to make every scarch and inquiry for the accused at shipping offices, outward bound vessels, and other likely places. The articles of jewellery stolen on the afternoon or night of the 5th, or morning of the 6tli September, from the sale- room occupied by Mr. Walter Semple, Jeweller, St. Enoch's- lane, 145, Argyle- street, in this city, have not been recovered, see Hue- and- Cry of 11th September, 1885. RENFREWSHIRE CONSTABULARY. Philip Lynch ( homicide), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 30th June, 1885. George Simpson, alias Kerr, miner or pit sinker, native of Lanarkshire, from 32 to 35 years of age ( robbery of jewellery and clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th April, 1885. Licence- holder G 970, Alfred Evans, alias Tommy Good- for- Nothing ( failing to report), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 10th March, 1885. ( 29777 m.— 55205.) WELSH POLICE. Carl Lemong alias Charles Hotzel ( housebreaking and robbery), not arrested; Huc- and- Crv, 2nd Octobcr, 1885. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Reidy, A305, convicted in Limerick City, at Summer Assizes, on 8th July, 1881, for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer.; resided before conviction in Limerick, where his friends reside ; brown hair, brown eyes, black eye- brows, regular nose, small mouth, sallow com- plexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high; Indian head tattooed on right forearm, and J. R. on left; star, shamrock, woman's head, cross, and ring, on left hand. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, 16th September, 1885, and went to reside at Limerick. He has failed to report himself since 18th Sept- ember, 1885, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, Dublin Castle, November 12,1885. ( 31541 M.— 58961.) DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis. lOtf. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. DESCRIPTION of Hamilton Black, native of Porta- down, who stands charged with having, on the 8th day of October, 1885, in the barony of Upper Massareene, parish of Blaris, embezzled the sum of £ 2 9s. 7\ d. the property of his master, Alexander Harvey:— Smart active appearance, blue eyes,- regular nose, sallow complexion, stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 21 years of age, black curly hair; wore a black cloth coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a pedlar. Joseph Clarke ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th July, 1885. \ Belfast. v DESCRIPTION of a woman, name unknown, sup- posed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, iD the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide:— A wart on upper part of right eye- lid, gray eyes, regular nose, ruddy complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 26 or 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a black straw hat, with bunch of imitation grapes or berries on it, dark dress, black and white striped petticoat, faded red and black shawl; is sup- posed to be a servant. Was accompanied by a little boy, one- and- a- half years old, who was dresssed in blue serge trimmed with gold lace, and a row of buttons down front of it, boy dark and good- looking, and mother stated his name was James M'Cauley. DESCRIPTION of Charles Manly, native of Ballina- barney, county Wicklow, who stands charged with having, between the months of March and July, 1884, in the barony of Nettercross, parish of Swords, stolen from the residence of John Hely Hutchenson, Esquire, J P., by whom he was employed as a herd, two Indian carved ivory hair brushes, value £ 20; a French cashmere shawl, value £ 7 ; and some books. Some of the property has been recovered:— Lump on back of right shoulder, which is higher than the left, down- looking appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair, thin dark moustache, no beard or whiskers ; wore a soft black hat, dark cpat, tweed trowsers, and light tweed vest; belongs to Wicklow Militia; is a herd and groom. ^ Balbriggan, November 1, 1885. Mart^ Folan ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19 th September, 1884. Mary Bligh, alias Lynch, native of Ballymoe, who disappeared from her home, in the barony of Bally- moe, parish of Drumatemple, on or about the 9th January, 1884, has not been since heard of; Hue- and- Ciy, 28th March, 1884. Patrick Killeen. ( assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 29th April, 1884. Martin Coleman ( sending threatening letters), not arrested j Hue- and- Cry, 1st April, 1884. Kerry. DESCBIPTION of four persons, names unknown, supposed natives of Keel or Lack, near Castlemaine', who stand charged with having, on the night of the 26th and morning of the 27th September, 1885, in tho barony of Corkaguiny, parishes of Kilgobbin and Killiney, in company with other armed and disguised moonlighters, numbering about fourteen or fifteen, feloniously attacked the houses of seventeen farmers, and forcibly carried away therefrom various sums of money, a single barrelled muzzle- loading Enfield Rifle & c., and attempted to swear some of the farmers against paying rent:— 1. " The Captain," small slight man, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, long false whiskers ( gray) down to his waist; wore a slouched hat, long oiled coat. ' 2. Stout man, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 28 years of age ; wore a woman's black straw bonnet, brown sack coat, brown trowsers thread- bare. 3. Face painted with black and yellow streaks downwards, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 26 or 27 years of age; wore a black soft wide- awake hat, gray tweed suit, carried two guns, one being that taken from Mr. Daniel Griffin, during tho raid, 4. Very tall and straight, masked face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 27 years of age; wore a red handkerchief over face, long brown tweed over- coat Each of the four carried a double barrelled gun, a pouch and cross belt, and carried revolvers in inside pocket of their coats. The other eleven remained outsido the houses, no description can be given, save that all carried double barrelled guns. Dingle, October 1, 1885. , ( 70684 o.— 22255.) Five persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of tho 29th September, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiney, parish of Killiney, been five of a party of armed and disguised moonlighters who entered the house of Jeremiah Scanlan, of Maghera- beg, and did forcibly take therefrom a single barrel gun with some powder and shot, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th October, 1885. A fowling piece, a briar- root pipe, and a powder flask, tho property of Daniel Griffin, described in the llue- and- Cry of 6th October, 1885, have not been recovered. The two persons, names and native places un- known, charged with having assaulted Michael Corcoran, and described in the Hue- and- Cry of the 19th of June last, have not been arrested. Five persons, names and native places un- known, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 18th April, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parish of Ballinorker, attacked the dwelling- houses of John Cruickshank, Inch, and Daniel Daly, Caherpierce, and taken therefrom six gunB, and also with seriously assaulting John Cruick- shank on the same occasion by inflicting four cuts on his head with the stock of a gun, & c., have not been arrested, nor the arms recovered; Hue and- Cry, 24th April, 1885. Kildare, DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, ou the 16th day of October, 1885, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Naas, broken and entered the dwelling house of John Howe, and carried away thcrofrom one pair of button and one pair of elastic gentleman's bj& gts ( nearly new), a cotton sheet, and a Gorman Flute :— 1. Fair complexion, round face, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 16 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, and dark trowsers ; barefooted ; is a tramp.' 2. John M'Morrow, who stands charged with having, on the 13th May, 1885, ( failed to appear at Dowra Petty Sessions, to give evidence in a case of house attack by an armed party and robbery of arms, as bound by his recognizance), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Timothy Lenehan, native of Cahir- lane, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1885, at Dromtrasna Collins, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, violently assaulted Michael Casey, by stabbing him in the side with a dung fork:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long pale face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft black hat, blue frieze coat, and cord trowsers ; is a farmer's son. Sunken gray eyes, long thin nose, pale com- plexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet inches higb, about 52 years of age, gray hair ; wore a black soft hat, brown tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, gray tweed vest, nailed boots; is a small farmer. 2. Pimples on face, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 40 years of age, gray hair ; wore a blue dress, much worn green shawl, and is barefooted; is a farmer's wife.
