THE Police Gazette, HUES OR Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to tho Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward tho Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. *„* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will bo necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General-, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1885. ENGLISH POLICE. DESCRIPTION of William Henry Bemrose Bratley, a Savings Bank Clerk, wanted in the borough of Boston, charged by Warrant issued on the 21st October, 1885, with stealing £ 100 on the 20th of July last:— 38 [ years of age, but looks somewhat younger, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, and weighs about 12 stone, fresh complexion, and good looking, dark hair and moustache, and a little whisker on sides of face if not shaved off, walks very erect, and is of smart appearance; generally dressed in dark clothes, and a blue overcoat with velvet collar, and hard black felt or silk hat. He is very talkative and fond of Company, and will sometimes amuse his companions with recitations, such as the " Charge of the Light Brigade " & c. He left Boston about the end of August, and was seen in London on the 15th instant. He is likely to leave the country. Information to HENRY BELLAMY, Head Constable. STOLEN from a dwelling- house in this borough, within the last 12 months :— A massive old fashioned linked chain, yellow gold, engraved, a little less than a yard long, joined together without clasp ; oval- shaped locket loose from the chain, about inches long, had a pearl on one side in the centre of a black atd gold star, and on the other side in black and gold raised letters, " In Memory of." About a dozen of small silver appendages, including drums, crosses, button- hooks, and boats. About 2 dozen gold plated appendages, same pattern as silver appendages. 2 dozen 9 carat gold keeper rings, engraved patterns. About 4s. in silver and copper money, and a small willow basket, square shape, black and white mixed, two leather straps for fastening, and leather handle on top; and 2 small nickel silver alarm clocks, round shape, nickel silver bell, and brass ring on top, white dial about 4 inches diameter, seconds hand on dial, two small brass feet, two brass keys, one for winding movement the other for winding alarm, and two small knob screws at back. Entrance was obtained to a sunk area behind the shop by means of overcoming a lock- fast gate and a lock- fast door, then to a cellar underneath the shop by racking the iron stanchions of the window thereof by means of a rope and a piece of iron, by pushing up the lower sash of the window, which had been left unsnibbed, and entering thereat, and by proceeding up a trap stair from the cellar into the shop. The jewellery is of an inexpensive kind, but may be pledged with pawnbrokers or sold to brokers or dealers in cheap jewellery, or may be disposed of by licensed pedlars or licensed auctioneers. The value of the best of tho stolen watches will not exceed £ 2. It is requested that the Police use every effort with a view to the recovery of the stolen property and the capture of the thieves, and that any information bearing on the subject be immediately communicated to the stibscriber. WANTED at Selkirk, on Sheriffs Warrant, charged with having between the 19th August and 21st September, 1885, stolen or embezzled £ 350, the property of the Directors of the British Linen Company's Bank :— Frank Wood, lately AccourT^ nt in the Galashiels Branch of the British Linen Com- pany's Bank, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches in height, large gray eyes, large mouth, fresh complexion, ordinary make, long dark hair, no beard or whiskers, may have slight dark moustache, walks with a slouching gait, and generally has his hands in his trowsers pockets ; dressed in a rough light brown tweed suit, and carried a black leather travelling case. Accused left Galashiels on the afternoon of 21st September last, per fast train for Carlisle, and will likely endeavour to go abroad. Police officers are requested to make every search and inquiry for the accused at shipping offices, outward bound vessels, and other likely places. DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,891 lis. 10d. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair* no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low broWn jerry hat. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state :— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. DESCRIPTION of Hamilton Black, native of Porta- down, who stands charged with having, on the 8th day of October, 1885, iu the barony of Upper Massareene, parish of Blaris, embezzled the sum of £ 2 9j. 7the property of his master, Alexander Harvey:— Smart active appearance, blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 21 years of age, black curly liuir; wore a black cloth coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a pedlar. DESCRIPTION of a woman, name unknown, sup- posed native of about Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th October, 1885, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, committed infanticide:— A wart on upper part of right eye- lid, gray eyes, regular nose, ruddy complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 26 or 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a black straw hat, with bunch of imitation grapes or berries on it, dark dress, black and white striped petticoat, faded red and black shawl; is sup- posed to be a servant. Was accompanied by a little • boy, one- and- a- half years old, who was dresssed in blue serge trimmed with gold lace, and a row of buttons down front of it, boy dark and good- looking, and mother stated his name was James M'Cauley. DESCRIPTION of Charles Manly, native of Ballina- barney, county Wicklow, who stands charged with having, between the months of March and July, 1884, in the barony of Nettercross, parish of Swords, stolen from the residence of John Hely Hutchenson, Esquire, J. P., by whom he was employed as a herd, two Indian carved ivory hair brushes, value £ 20; a French cashmcre shawl, value £ 7 ; and some books. Some of the property has been recovered:— Lump on back of right shoulder, which is higher than the left, down- looking appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair, thin dark moustache, no beard or whiskers; wore a soft black hat, dark coat, tweed trowsers, and light tweed vest; belongs to Wicklow Militia ; is a herd and groom. Mary Bligh, alias Lynch, native of Ballymoe, who disappeared from her home, in the barony of Bally- moe, parish of Drumatemple, on or about the 9th January, 1884, has not been since heard of; Hue- and- Cry, 28th March, 1884. Patrick Killeen ( assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 29th April, 1884. Martin Coleman ( sending threatening letters), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st April, 1884. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of four persons, names unknown, supposed natives of Keel or Lack, near Castlemaine, who stand charged with having, on the night of tho 26th and morning of the 27th September, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parishes of Kilgobbin and Killiney, in company with other armed and disguised moonlighters, numbering about fourteen or fifteen, feloniously attacked the houses of seventeen farmers, and forcibly carried away therefrom various sums of money, a single barrelled muzzle- loading Enfield Rifle & c., and attempted to swear some of the farmers against paying rent:— 1. " The Captain," small slight man, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, long false whiskers ( gray) down to his waist; wore a slouched hat, long oiled coat. 2. Stout man, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 28 years of age ; wore a woman's black straw bonnet, brown sack coat, brown trowsers thread- bare. 3. Face painted with black and yellow streaks downwards, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 26 or 27 years of age; wore a black soft wide- awake hat, gray tweed suit, carried two guns, one being that taken from Mr. Daniel Griffin, during the raid. 4. Very tall and straight, masked face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 27 years of age; wore a red handkerchief over face, long brown tweed over- coat. Each of the four carried a double barrelled gun, a pouch and cross belt, and carried revolvers in inside pocket of their coats. The other eleven remained outside the houses, no description can be given, save that all carried double barrelled guns. Dingle, October 1, 1885. ( 70684 c.— 22255.) Five persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 29th September, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiney, parish of Killiney, been five of a party of armed and disguised moonlighters who entered the house of Jeremiah Scanlan, of Maghera- beg, and did forcibly take therefrom a single barrel gun with some powder and shot, not Arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6 th October, 1895. A fowling piece, a briar- root pipe, and a powder flask, the property of Daniel Griffin, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 6th October, 1885, have not been recovered. The two persons, names and native places un- known, charged wrh having tssault d Michael Corcoran, and described in the Bue- and- Cry of the 19th of June last have not been arrested. Five persons, names and native places un- known, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 18th April, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parish of Ballinorker, attacked the dwelling- houses of John Cruickshank, Inch, and Daniel Daly, Caherpierce, and taken therefrom six guns, and also with seriously assaulting John Cruick- shank on the same occasion by inflicting four cuts on his head with the stock of a gun, & c„ have not been arrested, nor the arms recovered; Hue and- Cry, 24th April, 1885. Kildare, DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on tbe 16th day of October, 1885, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Naas, broken and entered the dwelling house of John Howe, and carried away therefrom one pair of button and one pair of elastic gentleman's boots ( nearly new), a cotton sheet, and a German Flute :— 1. Fair complexion, round face, mediumu. make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 16 years of age, fai^ hair; wore a dark twoed coat, and dark trowsers J barefooted ; is a tramp. 2. Four men, names and native places unknown, ( who stand charged with having, on the 4th of May, 1885, in the barony of Drumahaire, parish of Drumreilly, been of a party of five armed men, who forcibly entered the dwelling- house of Patrick M'Morrow, of Fahy, threatened the inmates, and seized and carriod away a gun), described in the Hue- and- Cry, of the 12th of May, not arrested. John M'Morrow, who stands charged with having, on the 13th May, 1885, ( failed to appear at Dowra Petty Sessions, to give evidence in a case of house attack by an armed party and robbery of arms, as bound by his recognizance), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of Timothy Lenehan, native of Cahir- lane, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1885, at Dromtrasna Collins, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Abbeyfeale, violently assaulted Michael Casey, by stabbing him in the side with a dung fork;— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long pale face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft black hat, blue frieze coat, and cord trowsers ; is a farmer's son.
