IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS. The Editor desires to call attention to the fact that all photographs of prisoners in custody, trans- mitted to the Convict Branch of the Metropoli- tan Police Office, for purposes of identification, are seen by the police and warders who visit all prisoners under remand, in the Metropolitan Police District three times a week. This system, esta- blished in 1879, has been the means of ascertaining the APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. previous convictions of 7000 prisoners, and affords great facilities to Chief Officers of Police, and the Governors of Her Majesty's Prisons. Such photographs are also compared with the albums in the Convict Office con- taining the portraits of all Convicts liberated in the Kingdom, which are further open to the personal examination of any police officer or warder. IDENTIFICATION OF BODIES. UNCLAIMED The attention of the Editor has been directed to the want of any system existing for the publication of descriptions of dead bodies coming into the hands of Police, and which are buried without having been iden- tified. M. C. B. Harness becomes Managing Director of the Qompanv in question. In these days of electrical quackery it is nighly satisfactory to find that an enter- prise for the development of electrical manufacture on a large scale has been projected. The public become necessarily the gainers by such enterprise, inasmuch as the aims of a Company, conducted on the auspices of the Medical Battery Company, are those of perfecting and extending, by the aid of capital and skilled labour, the manufacture of electrical appliances as aids to health and to the cure of disease. I do not doubt the Company in question will fully justify, by the excellence of its manufactures, the confidence in its appliances I have hitherto expressed." He sets His hand, as it were, to a blank that His people may write under it what they please ; that is, for their good. As if He should say, Are they weak 1 I am strength. Are they in trouble 1 I am comfort. Are they poor 1 I am riches. Are they sick t I am health. Are they dying 1 I am life. Have they nothing 1 I am all things. I am justice and mercy ; Iavi grace and goodness; lam glory, beauty, holiness, perfection, all- sufficiency, eter- nity, Jehovah—/ am whatsoever is suitable to their nature or convenient for them in their several condi- tions. Whatsoever is good and needful to make them happy— that I am. So that, in short, God here repre- sents Himself unto us as one universal good, and leaves us to make the application to ourselves, according to our several wants, capabilities, and desires, by saying only in general—/ am."
