DUBLIN, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1885. ENGLISH POLICE. MANCHESTER CITY POLICE. £ 20 REWARD. WANTED by Warrant, for stealing £ 127 from a dwelling- house in this city, between 10 and 11 a. m., on the 5th September, 1885, Antonio Mortenega: 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, no whiskers, small black moustache, cut mark on bridge of nose, dressed in a black velvet jacket, dark trowsers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots. Absconded on the 5th inst., in company with Carlo Bombarni:— 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, dark complexion, and dressed in dark clothes. The above reward will be paid by Dominic Merlino, 92, Foundry- street, Manchester, for the apprehension of the above- named Antonio Mortenega, and recovery of the stolen money, or in proportion to the amount recovered. It is requested that careful search and inquiry be made at Shipping Offices, & c., and any information obtained forwarded to the Chief' Constable of Man- chester, who holds a Warrant for his apprehension. MANCHESTER CITY POLICE. PARTICULARS of John Thomas Houghton, who absconded on the 5th instant, charged with forgery :— 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ( turning gray), dark brown eyes, high forehead, locg features, thin- jawed, slightly bowlegged, sharp walker, and has a peculiar twitch in his eyes when laughing. Dress— mixture tweed suit, reefer jacket, light brown overcoat, steel watch guard and compass appendage. Had in his possession a black leather portmanteau and brown leather hat- box. Warrant issued. WANTED in this borough, under Warrant for embezzlement:— William Brookes, 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers meeting under the chin, and moustache, rather florid complexion ; has scar of a cut under the right eye ; inclined to be stout; dressed when he left here • on Monday, 17th instant, in a soft black billycock hat, stone- coloured jacket and vest, small dark plaid trowsers, lace- up boots. The above man has been employed as an Agent by Singer's Sewing Machine Company, and it is expected he will endeavour to emigrate. Please cause every inquiry to be made at Shipping Offices, and other likely places, and if found, arrest, and wire, when an officer shall be sent for him. Information to G. WANTED at Kendal, charged with leaving his wife and family chargeable to the common fund of the Kendal Union, and who absconded on the 22nd August, 1885, and for whose apprehension a Warrant has been issued :— Thomas Hughes, alias Thomas Enney, hawker, late of 14, Swan- street, Ulverston ; about 35 years Of age, ( looks older), about 5 feet 10 inches or 5 feet 11 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, whisKers * generally slaved off, supposed slightly pock pitted; very smart and active; he ia well known in North Lancashire and West Riding of Yorkshire. Dressed in a dark blue cloth shooting- coat and vest, moleskin trowsers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots; supposed to have a black mare with him. One crookston dollar of Mary Queen of Scots. One gold medal of Oliver Cromwell. Several Greek and Roman coins. About 100 carat of unset diamonds, various sizes. Five quarter guineas. The different sections of the crowbar when joined together measures about 6 feet. The above reward is offered by Mr. Semple to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thieves and the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of property recovered. Police Officers are requested to make particular enquiries at pawnbrokers, jewellers, silversmiths, and others for the above- described property, aud, should any trace of it or the thieves be obtained, to com- municate without delay with the subscriber. STOLEN in Ayr, during the last ten weeks, a hammerless breechloading 12- bore double- barrelled gun. Makers, Williams & Powell, Liverpool. Right barrel, modified choke; left, cylindrical; top snap actions, with fittings, viz:— Cartridge loading machine, powder and shot measures, screw drivers, and gun cleaners ( 3). The gun is very short in the barrels, and unusually light, only weighing 6.] lbs.; value =£ 40. Police Constables are requested to search for said stolen gun, to apprehend any against whom guilt appears, and communicate with D. M'DONALD, Superintendent. Police Chambers, Ayr, September 19, 1885. WANTED here on a charge of theft, John Brown :— A labourer, or jobbing clock and watch cleaner, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4f inches in height, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark brown side whiskers and moustache, shaven on chin, gray sunken eyes, slender make; a member of Ayr and Wigtown Militia; said to be a native of Dairy, Ayrshire ; wore a light tweed suit, military boots, black felt hat, white militia shirt, but may possibly be wearing a black corded suit, which he took with him. He left this on the 25th inst, taking with him the hereafter described watches, which he got to repair and regulate from different parties at different times during the last four weeks, viz. :— A silver lever watch, No. unknown. C. Reid scratched on cape ; a silver Geneva watch, No. 6153 ; a silver Geneva watch, thinks No. 987 or 978; a silver keyless watch, No. unknown; an English silver lever watch, thinks No. 8504, silver dial, gold figures, and gold flourish underneath figures, minute hand broken ; a silver Geneva watch, No. unknown, white dial; a lady's silver Geneva watch, No. unknown, M. George Simpson, alias Kerr, miner or pit sinker, native of Lanarkshire, from 32 to 35 years of age ( robbery of jewellery and clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th April, 1885. Licence- holder G 970, Alfred Evans, alias Tommy Good- for- Nothing ( failing to report), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th March, 1885. ( 29777 M 55205.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Patrick Myles, A290, convicted in Dublin, at Commission, on 9th June, 1881, for housebreaking, and sentenced to 6 years' penal servitude :— 25 years of age on con- viction, single, prison trade shoemaker; born in Limerick city ; resident before conviction in Church- street, Dublin ; dark brown hair, brown eyes, black eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high; butterfly, anchor, and woman on left forearm, and cross on right, boil marks on neck. This man was released from Lusk Prison on licence, 28th July, 1885, and went to reside at No. 4, Lower Cumberland- street, Dublin, which place he has left, without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vie., cap. 112. ( 31204 M.— 58432.) DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that lie did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis. 10c?. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. WILLIAM REDDY, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G Divisior, September 3, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fresh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict Thomas Boyle, described in Hue and- Cry of 31st July, 1885 ; not arrested. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of Richard Mayes and James Watson, natives of Lisburn, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 5th September, 1885, in the barony of Upper Massbreene, parish of Blaris, com- mitted a rape:— 1. Slovenly gait, large hands and feet, low fore- head, two broad front teeth ; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a dark frock coat, gray trowsers, and dark vest; is a carter. 2. Freckled face, walks erect; brown eyes, long nose, dark complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black frock coat, dark striped trowsers and vest; is a mill worker. Lisburn, Sept. 11, 1885. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 2lst August, 1885, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— Andrew G. Armstrong, 16 years of age, dark hair, light blue eyes, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high, blue mark on back of left hand, bruise above left eye ; is a painter, & c.; his parents reside at 18, College- street, South, Belfast; has friends at Clenumphrey, near Magheraveely, near Clones. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded— Black tweed tunic and trowsers, blue cloth Glen- garry cap, blue striped shirt, red and black checked tie, nailed Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Carlow. Michael Doyle ( charged with having feloniously obtained a letter from the Post Office, Carlow, the property of James Carey), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 28th October, 1884. Cavan. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. James Murtagh ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cork. / DESCRIPTION of John Reilly ( mother's surname Cullinane), native of Enoughter- Golun, who stands charged with having, on the 14th August, 1885, in the barony of West Division West Carbery, parish of Kilmore, committed an indecent assault on a girl, aged eighteen years :— No particular marks, but has a wild appearance, dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, black coat, gray trowsers, and dark vest; is a small farmer. DESCRIPTION of John Neill, native of Filane East, who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1885, in the barony of Bere, parish of Kilaconnenagh, seriously assaulted Eliza Sullivan, by hitting her with a stone on the head, thereby endangering her life :— Gray or blue eyes, short thick nose, fresh complexion, round fall face, very stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair, wore a low soft hat, dark coat, bright trowsers, and dark vest; is a. farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of John Campbell, alias Ward, alias Gallagher, native of Loughveen, county Donegal, who stands charged with having, on the 21st July, 1885, in the barony of Boylagh, parish of Inniskeel, stolen a heifer, since recovered. See Hue- and- Cry, dated 31st July, 1885 :— Nose drooped and slightly turned to one side, stutters, high cheek bones, whiskers recently shaved off, dark complexion, round face, 5 feet 5 inches high ; about 40 years of age. DESCRIPTION of a jennett, the property of Thomas Feehan, of Carricketna, which was stolen off his lands, at Carricketna, barony of Kells, parish of Kilmoganny, on the night ot the 16th or morning of 17th August, 1885, viz:— A gelding jennett, bright bay colour, middle size, tail cut short, well shaped, had cut marks on knees from a fall, 5 years old; value for £ 15. DESCRIPTION of Henry Costello, of no fixed resi- dence, who stands charged with having, on the night of 15th or morning of 16th August, 1885, in the barony of Cranagh, parish of Freshford, stolen a silver lever watch ( No. not known), and leather guard mounted with steel, from the person of Thomas Griffith, of Freshford, county of Kilkenny, also about £ 2 in silver out of a drawers in Griffith's dwelling house:— Gray eyes, long thin nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight active make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 21 years of age ; dark hair; has a small brown moustache; wore a tweed cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; tattooed on right wrist with the letters " C. DESCRIPTION of clothing, the property of Dora Hyland, which were stolen out of her dwelling- house at Derrygrogan, parish of Ballycommon, barony of Phillipstown Lower, on 13th September, 1885, viz.:— One brown tweed Ulster cloak, one brown stocken- knitted jacket, one black cloth jacket, one pair of elastic- side boots, a black satin petticoat, two white petticoats, a black cassimere dress, thirteen yards of muslin, straw colour with blue spots, a red plush hat, a large yellow tie, two calico sheets, and one bolster cover. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 12th September, 1885, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County:— John Barret, No. 859; 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, strong make, fresh freckled complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, proportionate nose, regular mouth, oval visage; scar on right temple and on right thumb, has a fresh cut on side of the nose. Formerly belonged to Dungarvan. His parents are dead. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers and vest, black Scotch cap, No. 859. Have it on good authority that the absconder changed his coat and boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Four men, names and native places unknown, ( who stand charged with having, on the 4th of May, 1885, in the barony of Drumahaire, parish of Drumreilly, been of a party of five armed men, who forcibly entered the dwelling- house of Patrick M'Morrow, of Fahy, threatened the inmates, and seized and carried away a gun), described in the Hue- and- Cry, of the 12th of May, not arrested. John M'Morrow, who stands charged with having, on the 13th May, 1885, ( failed to appear at Dowra Petty Sessions, to give evidence in a case of house attack by an armed party and robbery of arms, as bound bv his recognizance), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Featherstone, who stands charged with having within the last twelve months, in the borough of Limerick, parish of St. Michael's and elsewhere, embezzled the sum of £ 27 7s. 10d., the property of his employer, Robert Hanna, of George- street, city of Limerick, Mer- chant :— Hands covered over with warts, dark eyes, slightly cocked nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a low hard hat, short tweed coat, striped tweed trowsers, tweed vest, and short dust- coat; his parents reside at 63, Lower road, city of Cork; is a commercial traveller. King's Royal Rifles, and a'so of wearing apparel, stolen from the Officers' Quarters, on 4th September. 1885. The watch and chain were taken Irom the Colonel's quarters, in the borough of Limerick, and parish of St. Michael's, viz.;— Gold half- hunter watch, with monogram " G. H." on back, and gold Albert chain ( link pattern); watch value for £ 10; chain value for £ 3; six linen collars, marked in ink " O. S. M. Nugent," the property ol Lieutenant Nugent; one long overcoat, of coarse woollen material, gray, yellow, black, and red spots intermingled, five buttons round the collar for putting on a hood, which was not taken; three pairs of gray drawers, marked " E. S. St A.;" three white under- shirts, of a silky cotton material, marked under breast with " E. S. St. A.," the property of Lieutenant St. Aybun; one shirt ( linen), marked on breast " N. B. ;" ten pairs of socks, fine woollen, brown colour, marked on legs " N. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Catherine Prender- gast, convicted at Boyle, county Roscommon, at the Hilary Sessions, on the 13th January, 1879, for felony and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude and 2 years' Police supervi- sion ;— 70 years of age, is married, is a dealer, prison trade sempstress, born at Claremorris, where she resided before conviction; her friends reside in county Mayo : gray hair, gray eyes, dark eyebrows, long and thick nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, long visage, slight make, 5 feet and a- half inch high; cut on right eyebrow, lost front teeth. This woman was released on licence from Grange- gorman Prison, on 23rd June, 1884, and went to Claremorris. She left Claremorris on the 20th ult. stating she was going to Knock, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 31207 m.— 58497.)
