THE Police Gazette, OR HUE- ASID- CRT. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General, c- y Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. *„* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. Prison and Police Authorities are requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General of Constabulary of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1885. ENGLISH POLICE. WANTED in this borough, under Warrant for embezzlement:— William Brookes, 38 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers meeting under the chin, and moustache, rather florid complexion ; has scar of a cut under the right eye; inclined to be stout; dressed when he left here on Monday, 17th instant, in a soft black billycock hat, stone- coloured jacket and vest, small dark plaid trowsers, lace- up boots. The above man has been employed as an Agent by Singer's Sewing Machine Company, and it is expected he will endeavour to emigrate. Please cause every inquiry to be made at Shipping Offices, and other likely places, and if found, arrest and wire, when an officer shall be sent for him. Information to G. WANTED at Kendal, charged with leaving his wife and family chargeable to the common fund of the Kendal Union, and who absconded on the 22nd August, 1885, and for whose apprehension a Warrant has been issued :— Thomas Hughes, alias Thomas Enney, hawker, late of 14, Swan- street, Ulverston about 35 years of age, ( looks older), about 5 feet 10 inches or 5 feet 11 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers generally shaved off, supposed slightly pock pitted; very smart and active; he s well known in North Lancashire and West Riding of Yorkshire. Dressed in a dark blue cloth shooting- coat and vest, moleskin trowsers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots; supposed to have a black mare with him. ( 31132 M.— 58317.) Bradley Haverstoe Association for the Prosecution of Felons. 20 GUINEAS REWARD. WHEREAS, between the 1st April and the 16th July last, some person or persons did feloniously steal and carry away four old and valuable oil paintings from Weelsby House, near Great Grimsby, viz:— A sea- side scene on the Dutch Coast, with a wreck, and women in short dresses ; in size, 3 feet wide by 18 inches deep, and in a carved oak gilded frame. A landscape, showing a road, house, and trees; about 2 feet 10 inches square ; in a gilt frame. Two others, " Morning" and " Evening," each 2feet deep by 16 inches wide, with gilt moulded frames. Notice is hereby given, that the above reward will be paid to any person or persons who shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, that is to say :—£ 10 ] 01. from Alexander W. Saunders " ( bank forgery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th March, 1885. Licence- holder Samuel Sutton, Registrar No. A 241, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 20th March, 1885. John Moran, alias C. F. Drancourt ( embezzle- ment), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 10th March, 1885. SCOTCH POLICE. WANTED here on a charge of theft, John Brown ;— A labourer, or jobbing clock and watch cleaner, about 3ft years of age, 5 feet 4f inches in height, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark brown side whiskers and moustache, shaven on chin, gray sunken eyes, slender make; a member of Ayr and Wigtown Militia; said to be a native of Dairy, Ayrshire; wore a light tweed suit, military boots, black felt hat, white militia shirt, but may possibly be wearing a black corded suit, which he took with him. He left this on the 25th inst, taking with him the hereafter described watches, which he got to repair and regulate from different parties at different times during the last four weeks, viz.:— A silver lever watch, No. unknown. C. Reid scratched on cape ; a silver Geneva watch, No. 6153; a silver Geneva watch, thinks No. 987 or 978; a silver keyless watch, No. unknown; an English silver lever watch, thinks No. 8504, silver dial, gold figures, and gold flourish underneath figures, minute hand broken ; a silver Geneva watch, No. unknown, white dial; a lady's silver Geneva watch, No. unknown, M. Hughes scratched on outside of inside case; an English patent silver lever watch, No. unknown, hinge of case broken, W. and some other letter ( thinks H.) stamped on inside case, white dial, gold minute hand, seconds hand awanting; a silver lever watch, No. 6317; a silver lever watch, No. 24039, John Park, Stewarton, on the works, white dial. A Sherriff's Warrant has been granted. Police Constables are requested to search for the said stolen property, to apprehend the foresaid John Brown, and communicate with D. M'DONALD, Superintendent. ESCAPED . from custody on the 21st instant ( while being exhibited in Glasgow, for the purpose of identification, & c.), charged with theft, and previous conviction :— John Heron, alias James Hetherington, a native of Glasgow ; 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high; a ship steward, formerly a boots and billiard marker in Hotels in Glasgow; swarthy complexion, dark hair, gray eyes, two moles on right side of neck, and a hole ( boil mark) on right cheek. Dressed in a blue serge jacket, vest, and trowsers ( brass button on vest), blue cap, with peak, and light elastic- sided boots; spoke with a Scotch accent, and has a smart appearance. He is well known to the Glasgow Police. Information to Chief Constable M'HARDY, Dam- barton, by whom the above Reward will be paid for his apprehension. County Police Office, Dumbarton, 24th August, 1885. ( 31101 M.— 58267.) COUNTY OF LANARK. STOLEN by means of housebreaking during the night of 14th and morning of 15th August, 1885, from Langmuir store, in this county. Entrance effected by wrenching the padlocks off the grocery and public- house doors:— Twenty- one shillings in copper, consisting of pence, halfpence, and one shilling in farthings. Fourteen pairs of boots, consisting of 12 pairs of men's and boys', having tackets; heel and toe- plates of various sizes; value from 3 s. to 9s. per pair; and 2 pairs of ladies' elastic- sided, value 6s. per pair. Two pairs of men's Lome shoes, plain soles; sizes 6 and 7; value 7s. 6d. per pair. A gray melton cloth overcoat, lined with gray lining, one inside pocket in left breast, three outside pockets with flaps, cloth- covered buttons to match, four or five rows of stitching on cuffs; well worn, and the collar greasy. $ A dark tweed cloth vest, with red tick throughout, blackplain composition buttons, red and white striped lining, three outside pockets ; in good condition. A roll of tobacco, weighing 5 lbs., of best black small twist. Two clear quart bottles of whiskey, one having label " Mitchell's Old Irish Whiskey," with crown surrounded by Shamrock and Thistle, the other " Argyle Highland Whiskey," with view of Inverary and Pier; underneath, Whitelaw and Weir, Glasgow, proprietors. DESCRIPTION of John James Moriarty, late a con- fidential runner in the Hibernian Bank, Dublin, who is wanted on Warrant here, for that he did, on the 29th August, 1885, unlawfully abscond and feloniously steal the sum of £ 2,391 lis. 10d. sterling, the money and property of the said Bank:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, florid complexion, fair hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, blue eyes, walks erect; dressed in ( supposed) yellowish tweed suit, and low brown jerry hat. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1885. DESCRIPTION of Robert Farquharson, Joint Manager of the Munster Bank Dublin, and Agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Dublin, who disappeared from his residence about mid- day, on the 28th instant, and absconded from his office, leaving his accounts in an unsatisfactory state:— He is about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, slightly tinged with gray, dark fregh complexion, good dark sparkling eyes, prominent teeth, average build, walks with a stoop, dressed in gentlemanly style, generally wears a silk hat; is a native of Scotland. He is suspected of having embezzled over £ 10,000, property of the said Bank. Information to Superintendent WILLIAM REDDY, Detective Department, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. In the above case the Liquidators of the Munster Bank ( Limited) will pay a reward of £ 500 for the arrest of the said Robert Farquharson, on his being delivered up to the Gaol Authorities in Dublin. Convict Thomas Boyle, described in Hue- and- Cry of 31st July, 1885 ; not arrested. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 21 st August, 1885, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— Andrew G. Armstrong, 16 years of age, dark hair, light blue eyes, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high, blue mark on back of left hand, bruise above left eye ; is a painter, & c.; his parents reside at 18, College- street, South, Belfast; has friends at Clenumphrey, near Magheraveely, near Clones. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded— Black tweed tunic and trowsers, blue cloth Glen- garry cap, blue striped shirt, red and black checked tie, nailed Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Cunningham, which were described in the Hue- and- Ory of the 29th of last May, have not been recovered. Carlow. Michael Doyle ( charged with having feloniously obtained a letter from the Post Office, Carlow, the property of James Carey), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 28th October, 1884. Cavan. Thomas Young ( homicide), not arrested; Hue and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. James Murtagh ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 13th March, 1885. Cork. DESCRIPTION of John Reilly ( mother's surname Cullinane), native of Enoughter- Golun, who stands charged with having, on the 14th August, 1885, in ihe barony of West Division West Carbery, parish of Kilmore, commiited an indecent assault on a girl, rged eighteen years :— No particular marks, hut has a wild appearance, dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, black coat, gray trowsers, and dark vest; is a small farmer. DESCRIPTION of David Lenihan, native of Lisard, who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1885, in the barony of Barretts, parish of Grenagh, seriously assaulted Jeremiah Cashman, by fracturing his skull, from the effects of which he died on 7th instant:— Fresh cut mark on upper lip, smart active appearance, gray or blue eyes, regular nose,' dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 37 or 40 years of age, dark hair, shaves all his face ; wore a low round hard hat, dark tweed coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a small farmer. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 25th July, 1885, absconded from the St. Patrick's Reformatory School, Upton, county Cork:— Patrick Butler, No. 1,166, 17 years of age, about 4 feet 11 inches high, proportionate make, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, regular nose, medium mouth, oval visage; formerly belonged to Clonmel; his parents are beggars. The school dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers, vest, and tunic, leather belt, Glenagarry cap, leather strapped boots, nailed. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of John Neill, native of Filane East, who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1885, in the baroLy of Bere, parish of Kilaconnenagh, seriously assaulted Eliza Sullivan, by hitting her with a stone on the head, thereby endangering her life :— Gray or blue eyes, short thick nose, fresh complexion, round full face, very stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair, wore a low soft hat, dark coat, bright trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of John Campbell, alias Ward, alias Gallagher, native of Loughveen, county Donegal, who stands charged with having, on the 21st July, 1885, in the barony of Boylagh, parish of Inniskeel, stolen a heifer, since recovered. See Hue and- Cry, dated 31st July, 1885 :— Nose drooped and slightly turned to one side, stutters, high cheek bones, whiskers recently shaved off, dark complexion, round face, 5 feet 5 inches high ; about 40 years of age. DESCRIPTION of jewellery, the property of the late Captain Edward Barton, which was stolen between the 23rd December, 1884, and 15th April, 1885:— A diamond ring, value about £ 130— stone a large diamond, set round with row of small diamonds; antique gold ring— signet portion a hexagonal- shaped stone, with letters g I (?), sur- rounded by wreath, engraved on surface; antique ring of thin gold— signet portion ( modern) a large oval blue- tinted stone; a piece of Danish Ring- money. Mary Bligh, alias Lynch, native of Ballymoe, who disappeared from her home, in the barony of Bally- moe, parish of Drumatemple, on or about the 9th January, 1884, has not been since heard of; Hue- and- Cry, 28th March, 1884. Patrick Killeen ( assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 29th April, 1884. Martin Coleman ( sending threatening letters), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 1st April, 1884. Kerry. The two persons, names and native places un- known, charged with having assaulted Michael Corcoran, and described in the Hue- and- Cry of the 19th of June last, have not been art- ested. Five persons, names and native places un- known, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 18th April, 1885, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parish of Ballinorker, attacked the dwelling- houses of John Cruickshank, Inch, and Daniel Daly, Caherpierce, and taken therefrom six guns, and also with seriously assaulting John Cruick- shank on the same occasion by inflicting four cuts on his head with the stock of a gun, & c., have not been arrested, nor the arms recovered; Hue and- Cry, 24th April 1885. Kildare, DESCRIPTION of Patrick Flanagan, native of Royal Oak, who, on the 24th February, 1885, in the barony of Carbury, parish of Ballinadrimna, strayed away from his employer at Moyvally while in a state of insanity, and may do injury to himself:— Pearl on right eye, good- looking, erect carriage ; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a felt hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a jennett, the property of Thomas Feehan, of Carricketna, which was stolen off his lands, at Carricketna, barony of Kells, parish of Kilmoganny, on the night of the 16th or morning of 17th August, 1885, viz:— A gelding jennett, bright bay colour, middle size, tail cut short, well shaped, had cut marks on knees from a fall, 5 years old; value for £ 15. DESCRIPTION of Henry Costello, of no fixed resi- dence, who stands charged with having, on the night of 15th or morning of 16th August, 1885, in the barony of Cranagh, parish of Freshford, stolen a silver lever watch ( No. not known), and leather guard mounted with steel, from the person of Thomas Griffith, of Freshford, county of Kilkenny, also about £ 2 in silver out of a drawers in Griffith's dwelling house :— Gray eyes, long thin nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight active make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 21 years of age ; dark hair; has a small brown moustache ; wore a tweed cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; tattooed on right wrist with the letters " C. Martin Kelly ( robbery of clothing), not arrested 5 ^ V Hue- and- Cry, 10th July, 1885. James Farrell ( absconded from Urlingford Union Workhouse, taking with him clothing, the property of the Guardians of said union), has not been arrested; Hue- aud- Cry, 15th May, 1885. Patrick Canty ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 11th November, 1884. Leitrim. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Kane, native of Prough- lish, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1885, in the barony of Leitrim, parish of Kiltubrid, assaulted and beaten one James M'Manus, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby endangering his life ;— Dark full eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, sharp thin face, smart active make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 22 or 23 years of age, black hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Four men, names and native places unknown, ( who stand charged with having, on the 4th of May, 1885, in the barony of Drumahaire, parish of Drumreilly, been of a party of five armed men, who forcibly entered the dwelling- house of Patrick M'Morrow, of Fahy, threatened the inmates, and seized and carried away a gun), described in the Hue- and- Cry, of the 12th of May, not arrested. John M'Morrow, who stands charged with having, on the 13th May, 1885, ( failed to appear at Dowra Petty Sessions, to give evidence in a case of house attack by an armed party and robbery of arms, as bound by his recognizance), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th May, 1885. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of a watch^ and chain, the property of Colonel Hatchell, King's Royal Rifles, and also of wearing apparel, stolen from the Officers' Quarters, on 4th September, 1885. The watch and chain were taken from the Colonel's quarters, in the borough of Limerick, and parish of St Michael's, viz.;— Gold half- hunter watch, with monogram " G. H." on back, and gold Albert chain ( link pattern); watch value for £ 10; chain value for £ 3; six linen collars, marked in ink " O. S. M. Nugent," the property of Lieutenant Nugent; one long overcoat, of coarse woollen material, gray, yellow, black, and red spots intermingled, five buttons round the collar for putting on a hood, which was not taken; three pairs of gray drawers, marked " E. S. St A.;" three white under- shirts, of a silky cotton material, marked under breast with " E. S. St. A.," the property of Lieutenant St. Aybun; one shirt ( linen), marked on breast " N.
